I've only been to J's twice now. Once for drinks (they can mix up a decent Maker's Manhattan) and the other for dinner. For our dinner visit, I was really in the mood for a sandwich... unfortunately, because there are no sandies on the dinner menu. I ended up splitting the Flat Iron Gnocchi with a friend, and was disappointed by how salty the dish was. We also had the hummus plate, which was just okay. Our server wasn't really the friendliest either, but really I was kind of in a funk also so the circumstances weren't the best for either of us to interact apparently. Maybe eventually I'll end up eating at J's again, but with so many other good options in the area it might take a while to get around to it.

Food and service is always great here. Great place to just sit back and have a drink or a great meal. Price is just what to expect in the marketplace. There are a lot of choices in the marketplace, but J's is my facorite.

Nice wine list, all our entrees were well prepared. My delicious potatoes were a little dry however. I don't like the dining area, it's shut off from the windows and with little ambience. Only seating in the bar area (which is where you want to sit) are high tops and my legs dangle, with that said I'd probably go again.

If I was given a choice I could not even give this place one star - we originally dined at J's in Fremont and dined at J's on Jackson in the market a few times in the last several years. We have not had good service - in fact - often rude and the prices were quite high. Tonight we decided to try this one more time. We went in and were given menus. Our group was pleasantly surprised to see that prices were reduced and many new items were added. Yeah! We ordered drinks and then proceeded to order dinner - ONLY TO BE TOLD - OH, THEY GAVE YOU THE LUNCH MENUS - rather than apologizing and accommodating, they exchanged the menus for the dinner menus and told us the items that were no longer available. The service was marginal - the wait staff had not been trained or chose to ignore their training for clearing and accommodating the table. Those in our party using the restroom were disgusted with the restroom and WE WILL NOT BE BACK! How sad because this restaurant had so much potential. It is the details and customer service that cause people to return - NOT the wrong menus, unkept restrooms and inappropriate service.

Decided to try this restaurant prior to going to see Million Dollar Quartet at the theater and must say that I was not impressed. Decided to have a margarita as it was National Margarita Day and I was disappointed by the drink. Something just to sour about the drink and being told over and over that I make a pretty good margarita, I should be able to tell. Additionally, my wife was ordering wine for herself and two other guests in our party and the first, second and third choices were sold out. The server advised that the restaurant was going through a transition in distributors and that is why the wines were not available. I do not know about other restaurants yet, if I was changing distributors, I would some how either cross off wine selections from the wine list or something to indicate that selections may no longer be available. the fifth member of our party was also told the same thing in regards to the scotch and rye that she was drinking. We ordered the cheese and meet tray for me left a lot to be desired. Fortunately the other guests in the party did seem to enjoy it. The olive tray was ordered as the 2nd starter and only had three varieties of green olives in very limited amounts and was served with bread. No clue on why bread was needed or served with the olives and how do you call it an olive plate without having any black olives what so ever. Disappointing to say the least. For my main entree I ordered the seafood pappardelle. The muscles seems a bit grainy in taste, the shrimp and lobster were over cooked and the sauce was just not that great in my estimation. My wife had the Crab Cake Ratatouille and was a bit disappointed. She felt it had great flavor and everything however, was just finely chopped vegetables with some tomato sauce thrown in. Ratatouille in true presentation is vegetables that are layered with a light tomato sauce presented. The other three guests in our party say that their Apple-Bourbon Pork Filets were pretty tasty. I personally would not be in a hurry to go back to this restaurant again. It was just too disappointing for me and I know of other restaurants in Omaha that I enjoy a lot more.

4 stars for the food. The filet is absolutely amazing. The blue cheese chips are also a must try. Js is a little hit or miss sometimes. I wouldn't recommend the Bloody Mary. I enjoy spicy foods and drinks, but this one is just too spicy to tolerate. Also, the beef oscar is great along with the lamb chops.

Stay away from this place!! I wish I could leave ZERO stars for this place. The only reason it gets one star is because the app forces one star. The bathroom is disgusting- moldy sink and countertop. There was a manager cussing at employees right in front of us!! Completely unprofessional and uncalled for no matter what. We will never be back here again, and I would hope those employees form a lawsuit for verbal harassment.

I was recommended to this place. The atmosphere was very laid back. I ordered the 12oz filet medium with the keystone potatoes and mixed veggies. My steak arrived and the presentation was nice but the steak was rare. Another in our party had ordered a medium rare steak and hers was medium. We kindly asked to get them fixed. The waiter returned with two brand new steaks and both weren't cooked to our requests. Once again mine was rare and hers was medium. The manager came out and offered a dessert and 10% off my next visit. The waiter was very nice and apologetic. He took off my drink and gave me 10% off my bill.

UPDATED REVIEW! - Please read at the bottom for the update. Went to J's on Jackson for my friend's birthday on a Thursday. The atmosphere was very cool and we were really excited for dinner. We were shown to our table, and unfortunately, that was where the excitement ended. We ordered a bottle of wine and a bunch of cocktails and then our waiter recommended their signature appetizer - chips with blue cheese. This was actually very good - plentiful, delicious and served quickly. For dinner we ordered several steaks, the special (a bone in chicken) and my friend and I ordered a few things to split as we had already eaten at a function beforehand. The waiter sneered at us for sharing, but we just let it go. To get the easy part out of the way, the steak orders were well received and the special was fine, but would recommend the steak - this IS Omaha. So our shared salad game out - the beet and chevre salad. It was not very special, and my friend did not eat much as she found it without merit. Our second split plate was where things went "pear shaped." It was the lavosh - a sweet chili and chicken lavosh. I had read in the OWH Review that this was not very good, but that they "fixed" it - well, it was terrible. I called over our snarky waiter and tried very quietly to tell him that it was not very good. In a shocked and loud voice he told me that he couldn't believe it that no one had ever sent back the lavosh (seriously????, I just read the review in the Herald and shame on me for still ordering it!) Finally, my friend, stared back and said it is completely inedible. He huffed and walked away. When he came back a long time later, another diner at our table asked for bread, our waiter rolled his eyes, and said that he guesses he could bring some bread. We then ordered a bunch of desserts for the table and he made rude comments about sharing again. We were shocked!!! We had 6 people at the table, drinks, appetizers, steaks, and desserts (side note - desserts were very good) and he treated us like were ordering water a salad among 5 people. It was plain rude!!!! But the real kicker - coffee. We asked for coffee and specifically decaf. When one of the diners asked if they already had a pot of decaf, not wanting to put him out any more by having to brew a fresh pot, he looked at the kitchen and said that he already had some decaf. Well, at 4am this diner finally got some sleep before his 6am wakeup call - what a nightmare!!! UPDATE: Since writing this review I was personally contacted by the owner of Js who was absolutely appalled by our experience. He has assured me that the waiter in question has been informed that his behavior was unacceptable and detrimental to what could have been a wonderful dining experience. I must admit I am very impressed and humbled that the owner took the time to write and express his dismay at our experience, it was greatly appreciated. As I mentioned at the top of this review, the steaks, appetizers, dessert and wine specials were really good and I have decided that it would be unfair to be so harsh on a restaurant because of one unpleasant waiter. I will try again and review...

I went to J's on Jackson almost a couple of months ago. My friend and I sat at the bar which was very beautiful and comfortable. The bartender made us some exceptional cocktails: a Cucumber Martini and a margarita. He was very attentive and concocted us a special martini of his own recipe, which was amazing! We also had the baked lobster appetizer. After reading some of the reviews, I wanted to add mine even though my experience was not very recent. I guess all I'm saying, is give J's a chance! :-)

Blue. As in the glaring, awful appetite destroying color that is so blindingly bright nothing looks appetizing a block away. Speaking of appetizing, the food is all open-from-a-box junk. Way overpriced. Sheesh.

Positively abhorrent. It is extremely rare that I would feel it is necessary to give a restaurant a single star. Let alone use the term "positively abhorrent." I understand that it is not possible to make every diner happy, and it is even more difficult to obtain top-notch ratings. After waiting for many, many months for J's to finally open their doors, the day finally came, and I found myself in an empty restaurant for lunch. This was my first experience at J's. The details here are too great to list, so I will spare them. What I will say of their first day is this. "Chicken" sandwiches are supposed to have grill marks. And "wine bars" are supposed to have wine lists. And with a total of three other customers, service (not just in the front of the house) is supposed to be attentive and speedy. But, alas. These things were not true. No one is perfect on their first day. It was in early November that I returned to J's. Seeing as I work at a small retail store in the Old Market, I have found myself growing quite weary of the available dining options. While there are some truly wonderful and consistently on point places, there are also some truly dreadful ones as well. I decided to try J's again before I wrote it off as truly dreadful. A sour experience on opening day, or even the opening month, is not grounds for termination in my book. So I tried it out again. Still no wine list. Wine bar? The mind reels. This time I ordered their Lobster Mac & Cheese. Not even 1/3rd of the way through, I found myself wondering how long their lobster had been frozen for. Had it been microwaved? My last lingering thought was that I wasn't aware Sysco offered lobster. I also had the privilege of trying their version of Corn Chowder. They got the corn part right. There was corn in it. Swimming in a sea of what appeared to be a fine blending of salt, Mod Podge, and Elmer's Glue. Horrific. The service wasn't even personable enough to comment on, though it was sufficient. Seeing as this review is extremely harsh, I will say this of J's: The restaurant itself is beautiful. Whomever was in charge of decor did a fine job, and for that I commend them deeply. The bottom line: With certainty, J's on Jackson is truly dreadful. While I find their menu quite ambitious, (and I've noticed a few borrowed items from other restaurants- M's Thai Lavosh, anyone?) I give it one star in the grand scheme. I hope they improve. Or get a new chef. Diners who actually have standards in taste will find themselves severely disappointed.

I wanted a steakhouse in Omaha and wound up here. The ribeye was pretty good, less fatty than most ribeyes because they cut more of it off. Came with potatoes and veggies willy-nilly, the veggies that day being various cuts of squash. Food basically OK, service likewise, but the fairly low rating comes from the fact that the $33 steak on the menu was $34 on the bill. Not OK. But I have no cause to complain: I just took a dollar off the tip to compensate.

The J's Bleu Chips are ridiculously amazing! Also seemed to be at least double the portion that you would get at Pig & Finch and about half the price. I also had the Crawfish Bisque, which was flavorful and definitely filling!

Much better service this time, which was my main complaint on the last visit. Also- 100% dog friendly patio, and your dog can come into the patio with you, not just sit tied outside like some of the other old market restaurants. J's has their own dog bowls for water (cute ones too) and gave my little guy a large milkbone. I was very impressed.

For the price of the entrees I was very disappointed in the quality. For our main courses one ordered a ribeye that was chewy and tough (never should happen for a ribeye prepared medium rare) , and two ordered the seafood pappardelli that had overcooked pasta, not enough cream sauce, was extremely lacking in seafood and did not have basil pesto as it was supposed to. Two of us ordered mojitos that were vastly different in the way they were made. One had far too much rum to make it palatable, the other was too heavy handed on the mixer making it far too sweet. For appetizers the bbq chicken flatbread was nothing special, however the arancini appetizer was excellent. I would not recommend this establishment unless you just want to stop in for appetizers.

I was really under-impressed. The service was sub par at best. I spent a good amount of time looking for our waiter to reorder a drink and I never had my water glass refilled... it sat empty for half the meal. I have never had such poor and unfriendly service at this style of restaurant. Now onto the food. I really enjoyed the risotto balls and my wife loved the blue chips. I was not a fan of the meat and cheese flight. seemed like the meat was more deli style with a tiny bit of charcuterie that was very good. I ordered the tenderloin gnocchi and wife ordered the lobster risotto the tenderloin gnocchi was pieces of overcooked steak and some scrapings with grissle on them over long chewy overcooked gnocchi topped with a heavy brown gravy.. Nothing in this dish was cooked right or tasted well. Now after telling our waiter this and asking to order a different item I was told that I would have to be charged for this. I immediately got offended and fired right back as to what all was wrong with the meal and no way way is this right. The waiter with tude then said ok then I can exchange it. i got the crab cakes as a quick backup. they came out very very fast and I really enjoyed them. they were flavorful crispy. I should have ordered a steak to begin with I feel but gnocchi is one of my favorite. and I can say the gnocchi here is one of the worst I have had across the country. I left feeling unappreciated as a customer and did not enjoy the attitude and poor service. I will not be back or recommend again. It got the extra star 2 stars because my wifes risotto was very very very good. That was done wonderfully

Updated review and I am going to have to drop them to 3 stars. They try but it is lacking the oomph I need for 4 stars. Service was Ok. They were busy and service reflected. Waitress missed a soup order and food came out piecemeal. Also, they ran out of rye whiskey. Never understood how a bar runs out of booze. Must be a shortage somewhere so stock up! Food was solid but not great. Appetizer (Thai Flatbread) was smothered in the sweet chili sauce.... about the only thing you could taste. I think a balance would make the dish really tasty. Price was not bad... not complaints. I will be back but this is not a "must go". Great location and the patio is fun.

Honestly, this was the worst dinner from an "upscale" restaurant that I have ever had. While staying in Omaha for the weekend we wanted a good steak but we're looking for a slightly more casual setting than 801 chop house or Spencer's for our evening. J's on Jackson was recommended to us by the hotel staff and at the time they had decent Yelp reviews so we decided to give them a shot. I was sooo disappointed. We had the French onion soup and wedge salads to start, they were fine...nothing special, and let's face it not hard to screw those up... Then there was the steak I had waited for all day and that the waiter had talked up to be delicious, it was far from that. I ordered the filet cooked medium and the poor steak was nearly burnt to a crisp! :( Not what I wanted to see after dreaming of dinner all day. Then the side of garlic mashed potatoes were most definitely instant mashed potatoes with a ton of garlic salt! They were so gluey and salty that I couldn't even begin to eat them. Even the veggies were terribly prepared and basically raw in the center! Definitely not worth the $34 price tag. The service wasn't terrible but it wasn't great. They even let street peddlers in the restaurant to try and sell things to the diners which I found very odd. I have been to a lot of steak houses in my day, both casual and upscale, and J's on Jackson did not live up to anything they are pretending to be! Thank goodness they had wine, definitely the best part of my meal.

So this may come as quite a shock, but J's just lost 3 whole stars from me. You may find yourself asking why?, but you should really be asking How? We have been going to J's for Wine Down Wednesday to enjoy libations and good bites for a long time. Pretty much every week and even on some off days. Ooh, I mentioned off days. That is what last night was. We wanted to go somewhere that could appease multiple palates in our party. Patron 1: Meat and potato, nothing fancy; Capt Morgan Patron 2: anything more expensive than it is worth, Busch light Patron 3: something they can't make at home; Capt Morgan, Pepsi Patron 4: Vegan; Wine Patron 5 (me): Vegetarian; IPA When we got to J's, we immediately got a table which was nice. Our server was quick to assist and maybe a little to eager to take our drink order. No longer do they have a rotating Sierra Nevada tap, nor did the waiter know much about wines. We got our bread basket quickly and noticed a few fruit flies cruising around looking for some grub. Not really an issue then. We got our food relatively quickly, but a few things were missing. P2's side salad was not delivered although the oil and vinegar was. Her pasta also seemed to be missing the mussels, but she got the shells. P4's Martini salad had the stilton stuffed olives omitted per request, but they felt the need to douse the rest with bleu crumbles. Why would you do that? The ambiance was missing as was the service I was used to. My food was just ok, but really, how do you screw up mushrooms? The real kicker was the check. Nearly $200. They even charged for the salad that was not delivered. $3 for some sour cream and chives for your potato. At $40 for that plate, that should be free. Way overpriced and not worth it. Upstream has better food, beer, and they serve wine (not as good in that department). Nothing at J's was outstanding. For the price point we should have experienced way better service. I get that there is new staff, but these guys and gals need to get it together. I will still go for WDW, but other than that, good luck. I'm gone

The service was great! Although we were there relatively early for dinner on a Wednesday night so there was not much going on. My husband's Flat Iron Gnocchi was one of the best gnocchi dishes I've ever had. That includes Italy! They're ideal if you like a pillow-y, melt-in-your-mouth type of gnocchi. The mushroom duxelle cream, the flat iron steak, spinach, and chives melded well with the gnocchi for a heavy, but comforting, dish. I forgot the name of the dish I had but it was similar to steak au poivre. It was definitely good, but more forgettable than the gnocchi. I don't think I would go to J's on Jackson for their steaks in particular but I would like to visit again, on occasion, for their other dishes.

I gave this place a 2 star rating because the food was great, otherwise it would have gotten a 1 star rating from my group. We had an early reservation at 1700 because part of the group was attending the NCAA. The restaurant was relatively empty when we were seated. I thought this was just because it was an early registration, now I am not so sure. We were seated and told our waitress would be right with us.... well it was at least 5 min before we saw her (Vonda). She asked us if we wanted drinks, there was one beer ordered, 2 sodas and we began looking at the wine list for the remaining 3 of us. Another 5 min went by before the beer and soda came back. We had picked a wine, and then she came back and told us that was not available, but recommended a different but "similar priced" bottle was available. She finally returned with that and 3 glasses another 5 min later. We ordered the kids food (mac and cheese) and also asked if there was bread to be served. She told us that they only serve bread by request now. ( I thought that was a bit weird) but she promised to bring us some. We then ordered the adult entree's 3 different steaks and we each had a soup. The crawfish bisque was excellent. The French onion soup was also good. She finally brought the bread out after the soups were served and after we reminded her that we had requested it. When she placed it on the table she stated that it "takes awhile to warm the bread". Next to us there was a table of 4 that arrived after we had and ate and left before we did. The steaks were brought out and they were delicious. One ribeye and 2 Omaha strips were ordered. I had ordered a baked potatoe with mine and asked for the butter sour cream and chives. All others had ordered the truffle parmesan steak fries which they stated were also fabulous. All the steaks had been ordered medium rare and the 2 strips were prepared correctly, but the ribeye was a little closer to medium. She brought the childs mac n cheese out after the adult steaks were brought out. Of course, the yelp info says it is not good for kids so maybe that is their way of discouraging that. At the beginning of the meal we did request that the bill be split so that 2 adults and the 2 kids were on one check and the other 2 adults were on the other one. She stated that this would not be an issue. As we were finishing up our meal, and last bit of wine it was 6:00pm. We asked for the checks as 2 of the parties needed to get back to the games. 10 min later she returned to say that she had messed up the checks and put the 2 adutls with a completely different party's bill and that she needed to straighten that out and that she was trying to have the manager assist her. 10 min later, the 2 adults left to go to the game and I ended up taking care of their check for them. 20 min later, after we saw her running around the restaurant, and I was getting ready to find the manager, she came to the table with the 2 checks. I pointed out to her that the other 2 had to leave. She offered to put the 2 checks on one tab, but I was afraid if we did that it would take another 10-15 min just to get it back. I ended up paying with 2 separate credit cards for the 2 different checks to try to avoid another delay or some other mix up with the checks. She did apologize again for the mixup and delay but never offered to comp us anything for our inconvenience. It was so bad that my 2 young sons were even commenting about how long the delay was and how that was not good service. Now, they do get to go to higher end restaurants quite frequently so they do know good food and good service when they see it. It did not really appear that anyone was helping her with this, and the manager certainly never did show up at our table to apologize for the inconvenience of what turned out to be over a 30 min wait for our checks to come. I am pretty sure that we will never return here, nor will we recommend this to any of our friends who visit Omaha. Thank goodness the food was good or we would have given this a one star and definitely spoken with the manager!

Dined in the bar. Was pleased with the quality and taste of the ribeye steak. Price is reasonable as well. Moscow Mules are also good here. Worth a try for a mid-$30's steak in Omaha.

We were drawn in by the dog-friendly sign on the patio--total whim! The staff brought water bowls and dog cookies as soon as we were seated and took our drink orders immediately. The two of us opted to order several appetizers to split and we didn't regret any of them! Our first (and by far the best) was the steak/lobster duo with garlic toast points. It was all we could to do to not lick the bowl! Next up was the thai chicken lavosh--a little heavy on the sweet chili sauce but yummy with tender chicken and a nice crispness nonetheless. Arancini balls (Panko breaded risotto in a beautiful marinara) followed. My friend loved them, I though the risotto could use a bit more flavor but still not bad. Last but not least, we had the calamari....the pickled olives/tomatoes are eh but the calamari itself is lightly-breaded and well-seasoned. Overall, we had a great experience. Our waiter was a bit absent minded but delightful and recommended a fantastic martini. The owner welcomed both the dogs and the humans with a smile. I'm excited to return for the steak/lobster and to try some new items from the menu!

The bar itself is quite nice. You would expect the service and food to be the same. My wife and I went in today (Tuesday 3/10/15 @ 610p) randomly. We sat in the bar area. We were greeted promptly and service was good. Anyways, the food was ordered and served at a reasonable cadence. (10-15m) The ~$40 steak was overcooked (it was ordered med-rare, arrived a touch under med-well). This is where things went downhill. So when we brought this to our server's attention, she directed us to keep the plate of food save the steak...so that was odd. Anyways, from there we became the ignored table. Although things did pick up, there was literally no service from here on out. When we received the replacement steak, it was plated with only vegetables and no mash (and it was still a bit over cooked). Aside from bringing out the replacement steak the only other real interaction with our server was to pay our bill. We were there around another 15m just waiting on our check. I wouldn't feel so bad about this if it was an Outback or Ruby Tuesdays, but this is a high end restaurant, even though their food and service did not reflect it.

I purposely held off writing a review, since I was my initial impression was based on a off night. Alas, a repeat visit today confirmed by initial impression...a miss on the value proposition. For lunch, started with an order of onion rings for $8. Fresh, crispy and gigantic, the rings were pretty darn tasty. Served with a side of remoulade, we also asked for ketchup and ranch since you can never have too many condiments to accompany your fatty onions. For the main course, went with the "popular" and recommended chopped salad. My definition of chopped salad is one chock full of non-lettuce goodness, "chopped" up so one can pretty much do straight fork-to-mouth eating of this fake-healthy goodness. While the peppercorn vinaigrette was zesty and tasty, it was primarily mixed greens with a small smattering of the salami, olives, pepperoncini, broccoli, carrots and cheese. While the salad was a-ok, the $11 charge was a bit on the high side for what seemed more like a side salad than a main salad. My dining companion ordered the chicken salad sandwich on croissant which came with a side of fries. Like the onion rings, the fries were pretty darn tasty. With all of the options in the OM area, not sure if this is on my "visit-again" list of establishments...unless, of course, I'm hankerin' for some fried accompaniments to go with a nice glass of wine on their patio. Good service. Good ambience. Just okay food.

OK experience and food that does not meet the expectation of steakhouse prices. Food took forever to come out. We weren't greeted at the front for nearly 5 minutes. Chicken was overcooked and the steaks had very little flavor. Would not recommend.

Our food was very good. Really enjoyed the strawberry salad. While the filet was quite tasty, it was closer to medium well than the medium rare I asked for. As others have said, the service was very slow. Our waiter seemed frazzled and frustrated. It took at least 10 minutes to get a drink from the bar and Frank never asked if we wanted another drink.

After visiting over 30 states and eating out these last few years, I can say this is a pretty great place for a great meal! I had the The ribeye steak special which was cooked to perfection. They also have this blue cheese chips as a appetizer that were amazing. Oh and if you go there on the right night, some guy at the restaurant will end up buying everyone a drink. By far the best local, classy, and tasty restaurant in the Fremont area!

Got Living Social deal. Don't know if that is why our service was so terrible tonight or not. Maybe he thought he wasn't getting a tip? Poor atmosphere and the dinner was unimpressive. Burger was dry. Salmon was decent but the sides were boring. And with so many local Coffee shops around I at least expected the coffee to not be generic. I expected more from "the old Passport"

Came here to check out the steak, based on a tip. The entrance is a bit difficult to find. It is on the N side, and consists of a single door. The dining area is pretty large, with a raised bar area off on one side. There is a large outdoor patio as well. The bread here is quite dense (almost a bit on the raw side), but maybe it's the actual type of bread. Reminded me a bit of sourdough. The salad was pretty decent, with diced tomatoes. The steak was decent, though it seemed just a little on the burnt side. Covered with pepper. Beautiful. The vegetables were a bit greasy, but otherwise tasted OK. It's a decent steak for sure, but sadly it just isn't as good as Spencer's. With that said, this place does cost less, so it's not a fair comparison.

I am sad to say our lunch experience was not ideal this time around. I love the balsamic asparagus with a fried egg on top but this time around I did not get bernaise sauce, I got thickened butter with tiny specks of tarragon here and there. I asked Tereyna (sp?) To check out the bernaise and she agreed it was NOT how bernaise was supposed to look. She wasn't even our server but went above and beyond to have the kitchen put some heat on it to thin it out. I also suggested that they add some parmesan bits next time (like they put on their potato wedges) and she agreed. She made our experience a better one for sure. We will go back but we'll not sit in the bar area, we'll get a table and hope that she gets to be our server. Oh and. .. it was her first day! !!!

Last night was our third visit to Js. I ordered the seafood papardelle and my boyfriend ordered the 12 oz fillet. My pasta was as tasty as usual (I order this each time because it is so good), although the sauce was lacking its typical creaminess. The steak was prepared perfectly and tasted great, exactly how a Nebraska restaurant should cook a steak. I love this place, but we tend to go only when there is a living social deal, because it is very pricey. I love the ambiance, especially if you get a seat on the bar side and get a great view of the Old Market. (hint: make a reservation)

The look is pretty much unchanged since its days as the Passport restaurant, but the menu and the vibe are very much different. Relaxed and casual. Nice wine list, top heavy on overpriced California cabernet Sauvignon , but that's just playing the numbers. The ribeye was very tasty though salty. Smoked salmon appetizer is a reason to come back. we will.

We were going to have dinner at M's Pub for dinner but there was a 45 minute wait (wish we waited). The host recommended J's on Jackson so our party of 6 headed that way. Service was very very slow! Took about 10 minutes to order drinks and then another 10 to get them (the place was empty). We got one little basket with 6 slices of bread, when we asked for more....15 minutes. I got the iceburg wedge salad to start and about 15% of the lettuce was brown. It was right on the top of the wedge. The chef could have taken 3 seconds and cut the brown off. For my main course I got the BBQ chicken lavash (basically ultra thin crust pizza). My first few bites were very good but then I noticed some of the pieces of chicken were so dried out that they almost had the texture of croutons. Most of the others got steaks. 2 had no issues but 2 had major issues. The one who ordered his steak medium well (I know sacrilege but that's the way he ordered it) came out barely medium rare. Literally it was pure blood inside. The one who ordered her steak medium rare it came out medium well. I would have recommended they switch plates but they were each different kind of steaks and they each had different toppings. They VERY politely sent the steaks back and about 15 minutes later out come 2 new steaks.....both still cooked exactly WRONG! Lol. It was comical. The guy that wanted medium well cut into his steak and the bloodbath ensued. The girl who ordered medium rare cut it and was met with grey (not quite as bad as National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation when they cut into the turkey and it is a dried up mass....but close). The waiter was very polite and apologetic (he is about the only reason this isn't 0 stars). The manager came out and it would have been almost better if she hadn't. Offering a 10% coupon on his next visit and a free dessert doesn't do much to restore confidence. Checks took quite a while as well. All told we were here for about 2 1/2 hours and left sorely disappointed. The waiter was great and earned 2 stars for this place.

Very nice place, firs time there, staff was happy to see us, sat us right away, the waitress was very busy but apologized even though I didn't think she was ignoring us. Manager was always asking if we needed anything and came by the table often which was nice. As for the food, the calamari appetizer was cooked perfectly, I had the lobster crepe and the craw-fish soup, both cooked delicately and seasoned to perfection, my dinner guest had the apple pork loin and he said it was very good, not to bad on the price and I would go here again, hopefully next time it wont be 20 below

We stopped in for dinner last night since we live a block away and have been wanting to try it out. We ordered the coconut mussels, tomato bisque, french onion soup, duck entree and the chicken supreme pasta (the amaretto cream one). Mussels were good, I thought the coconut broth was a tad bland, made for good dipping sauce with the bread. The tomato bisque was fantastic, has a smoky/adobo kick to it. Also amazing with the bread. French onion soup was equally awesome. The entrees left a bit to be desired. The chicken pasta was too sweet, maybe lay off a tad on the amaretto, I had a couple bites and didn't bother finishing it...the flavors didn't seem to meld well. Maybe ditch the amaretto and opt for a more savory flavor? The duck was exponentially better than the chicken, cooked to perfection. I'd probably try this place out again. Might just opt for apps and soups and skip the entrees.

Done with this place. great food, good wine, great patio , but the fact that you allow smokers (the worst part is that it was wait staff smoking!!!!seriously, this is an upscale restaurant, not a bar!!!) smoke right next to my good on the patio, you have ruined my food/wine experience. This was my last trip here. Too bad you can't rate somewhere less than 1 Star. I refuse to pay that kind of money for good and wine to have smoke in my face as I dine in your patio.

We dined here before going to the Orpheum and while the restaurant was no where near capacity, we had a very inattentive waitress who said one thing and would then completely forget about us. We got the meat and cheese plate and while it had a great assortment of cheeses it had 6 half slices of store bought salami on it. The food was overpriced and the service was severely lacking. There are far better restaurants in Omaha and I've officially crossed this one off my list.

It was mediocre for a "nice" resturant. The server was quick with the drinks, but once she took our order barely saw her except to being out the dishes. My boyfriend bloody mary wasn't made correctly, put it to the side obvious it was barely touch, no offer for a new one or an alternative. I order the tenderloin gnocchi, alot of sauce for how small the dish was. The tenderloin was juicy and soft, the gnocchi delicious. My boyfriend ordered the new york strip with the garlic mashed potatoes. The strip was cooked to medium rare but underseasoned, the garlic mashed potatoes lacked garlic. The best part of the meal was the smoked salmon appetizer, tasty but upset that the server grabbed the plate before we had finished the smoke salmon. Will not be going back.

visiting from San Antonio, Texas and 3 steaks ordered medium and all were cooked well done. The chicken Oscar was ordered without crab...it came with it. One steak plate was ordered with asparagus and got squash instead. Waiter never asked how our food was until time to pay and when we expressed that the food was not prepared correctly he stated the chef was new and we never did see a manager. No discount on our bill for our dissatisfaction. With all the great restaurants in Omaha, we will never go here again. What a disappointment.

Food is really delicious, some inventive combinations, but as with most places in the Old Market it can get a little pricey. The solution: Wine Down Wednesdays. Half price bottles of wine and delicious appetizers $4-7 each (Gotta' try J's Lavosh--it's wonderful!). Their sommelier will never steer you wrong. Wait staff is friendly and always available without being in the way when conversation is starting to really get going at your table. Also, the patio (open in the summer and great for people watching) is dog-friendly...and people in the Old Market love their dogs! Look for the tree with the obnoxious blue lights and you'll know you've found it! ;)

Excellent steak, excellent service. My wife and I along with our kids and my in-laws came here and it was very quiet. We had very quick service and all of our steaks were cooked to absolute perfection. The filet was very tender and tasted absolutely amazing. Will be going back here again.

I have been to the Fremont location before but we finally made it to the new Old Market spot last Friday night. We started with onion rings and the thai chicken lavosh. They were both ok but probably nothing I would order again. Next up for entrees the ribeye, chicken bacon bbq sandwich & two of us ordered filet oscar. The chicken sandwich looked decent (for a chicken sandwich) and the steaks were all pretty good. The only glitch was that the filet was supposed to come with fingerling potatoes and we were both served mashed, which quite honestly tasted instant (even though I hope they weren't). I will not be rushing to get back to J's but I do think it is a decent option in the Old Market. The food and service were both good.

This is a completely different place depending on if you go there for lunch or dinner. For lunch I would gladly give them 5 stars but for dinner it's more like 1 or 2 stars so overall I will average them at a 3. For lunch, the Blue chips are delicious and the turkey burger is my favorite entree. The portions are generous and the prices are fair. Dinner on the other hand is a completely different menu, missing all of my favorite items, and the average price per meal almost triples. I will continue to go here for lunch but will absolutely not return for dinner.

Overall the meal was very good. I had the lobster mac & cheese which was flavorful, but a little too much sauce. My friend had the portabella frites which she said were excellent, especially that they were served on greens. Now the negative - my friend thought the bloody mary didn't cut it, nothing special in flavor. Also, the menu on the restaurant website hasn't been changed in quite a while. The last time we were here the online menu had two kinds of mussels, when we went there was only one. They were still excellent though. This time, it was the same menu online so we were still wanting the mussels but even that dish was off the menu. We had a craving for mussels but couldn't get them. All in all, a very good meal though.

Normally good food here. Tonight, however, they had limited dinner due to it being Berkshire Hathaway weekend. I wish we were told that when we made our reservation. Way to expensive for 4 people that didn't even order drinks. Food was so-so.

We had a large group (16 of us) for dinner at J's on Jackson - everyone ordered something different and EVERYONE was happy with their meal. I was nervous about the restaurant after reading some of these reviews...but this was AMAZING! I had the Chicken Oscar - it was SO delicious! I also tasted the Lobster Mac-n-Cheese and it was TO DIE FOR! I was SO pleased with the food as was everyone that I was with!

I've been there twice. First time the place was super crowded. We were a table of 4. We got water but then waited and waited for a server. Finally my son went to the server and asked him to take our order. In the meantime a table of 8 was seated and this serve went straight over to them. We were still waiting. We got up and left. I wrote a letter to the manager and never heard back. To me this is a sign of bad management. Months later a friend invited me to lunch and wanted to try J's. I figured maybe things had improved. the place was dead. A few people in the bar but only one other table. Service was good but the food sucked. My friend got the steak and lobster in a havarti cheese and the steak was tough and the lobster chewy. I had an over cooked, dry burger. I will not go back.

I went went there on Thursday and with a group of ladies and received a great table by the famous blue tree on the deck. We were informed all day Thursday was Ladies Day and drinks where half price. COOL treat!! Everything we ordered was wonderful and so was the service. Barb the hostess stopped by our table offered delightful conversation. I had ordered a speciality martini that was not to my liking at all but I did not mention it to the wait staff as I got exactly what I ordered. Only to find about 15 minutes later my fav vodka martini appear in front of me!!! Barb the hostess had noticed, I was not drinking my specialty martini and had discreetly asked a dining companion about it! Barb must have spoke to the wait staff! What a nice thing to do!!! When the bill came I was shocked to see the neither martini had been billed. I left a very nice tip for a very nice experiance and will return again.

Very apprehensive to use our Living Social at J's after all the remarkably negative reviews. Went at lunch on Friday, January 25, 2014 and found the restaurant nearly empty (not an auspicious start!). Even though it was nearly 11:45 a.m. the place was quite dead. We were seated in the main dining area after being offered either the bar or dining area. Service was prompt, but that should be expected with no other business in general. Ordered a cheese plate appetizer and we were told that the bread wouldn't be available immediately because the oven was still cold, seemed odd since I would think they would have their oven hot and ready to go by that time of the day. Since we are retired it was not a big deal and said we would wait for the bread. Our server brought our cheese plate and some lavosh and then brought the bread later, warm and tasty. We ordered a couple of sandwiches, a bourbon burger and a turkey bottillo? Both were very good and the fries were crispy and nicely seasoned, I had the sweet potatoes fries, my wife had standard fries. They were huge portions, my wife took 1/2 her sandwich and her fried home, I should have taken some of my fries home too. I couldn't eat the sandwich by hand, had to use a knife and fork as I would have made a huge mess trying to pick it up, so I didn't end up eating the top bun and about 1/2 the toppings. I found the restaurant to be pretty comfortable, clean and inviting, my wife who is always cold wore her coat, but I wouldn't read too much into that, she wears her coat in our house.. ;-). I would certainly come back to J's and try some of the other entrees, etc. I did find it a bit pricey for lunch but overall with the living social a nice enjoyable meal.

The staff were friendly and it was a nice environment, but the food was decidedly mediocre. The reuben was a bit rubbery and, overall, reminded me of a generic reuben you might get from grocery store deli or grimy diner--definitely not something I'd pay $12 for. Maybe $6 if I was in a pinch. The fries were similarly not terrible but not good. Dry, bland, and reminiscent of high school cafeteria lunches. Possibly even a step down from frozen fries in the toster oven. It's certainly possible that there are other, better options on the menu, but after spending $14 with tip on a meal I'd be disappointed with for $6, I won't be giving it another chance any time soon. edit: I went there a second time (somewhat against my will) and wanted to report that the fries were much, much better this time--they were actually very good and seemed to be an entirely different style than those I had on my initial visit. I went for a burger, figuring it was a safe option. Unlike the reuben it wasn't bad, but there are definitely better options downtown.

Atmosphere is nice inside. We sat on the patio and the blue light is thoroughly annoying. Service was great, if a bit slow. They ran out of baked and mashed potatoes, which seemed strange for a restaurant of this caliber. Steaks were overdone. Food was just ok and expensive. We spent over $250 for dinner, drinks and dessert for four people and left a nice cash tip. The waitress quickly came back to make sure we didn't want a tip and didn't notice the 50 dollar bill in the binder. We were embarrassed at the implication that we didn't tip as she loudly asked us whether we were leaving one. A decent restaurant to be sure, but I'd spend my money elsewhere.

We couldn't stay long enough to eat because the 'famous' blue tree made us all ill. Such a beautiful night to sit outside but the lighting is HORRIBLE We had a glass of wine and went on to Twisted Fork and sat outside - out of view of the gross LED blue light. Wish they had nice lighting like the rest of the Market so we could have enjoyed dinner there. Never going back

Reserved a table for first anniversary dinner, and was not disappointed. We each ordered the 8 oz filet and it was fantastic. Veggie lavosh was fantastic too. Side dishes and bread / butter were perfectly prepared. We brought in our own bottle of wine, but their selection was robust too. Lots of empty tables in the main dining room on this Sunday night, but the bar and outside tables were pretty full. Nice, quite environment to enjoy a fantastic meal. Crawfish bisque was excellent as well. Owner raises his own cattle and hand selects his own cuts.

Service (Terrance) was beyond excellent, unfortunately the food was very sub par. Appetizers were warm not hot and the meal as a whole was timed poorly. Main dishes were overcooked for one and literally raw on the other entree. All restaurants have bad days, so based on the outstanding service, we will certainly try J's again.

We have been here a few times. 2 times we sat on the patio for appetizers and a bottle of wine and once inside. We LOVE the blue cheese chips and the bruchetta was just so so. We really love the atmosphere inside and out. Service has always been great and food wonderful! Only had beer or wine but they have a great selection of both! I wish they were out west closer to where we live but we will be going back!

Okay, first the good - good service, prompt and punctual. They offer half-price wine nights on Wednesdays on bottles less than $100. That means I only paid $10 more than the typical price for my bottle of Earthquake Cab. The food was pretty good. Now the not so good - and a caveat - they have been open less than a week). My 12 ounce fillet was okay. It wasn't something that blew my socks off. For a new place, it's "blow your socks off" time, so you get return customers. It was cooked properly. Another person at my table ordered the small fillet rare, and got it medium rare. The potatoe was also underdone. The restaurant did a complete "re-plate" of the meal, and didn't charge her for it, so good for the restaurant. The seating was comfortable. This used to be Passport, and they pretty much gutted the interior, and started over. It's on the loud side (no baffles on the ceiling), and on the pricey side. Still, it wasn't bad.

Had a great meal with great service. The roasted tomatoe soup was delicious, as was the lobster-steak duo. Since I was by myself, this was plenty and could have been a meal in itself. The freshly baked bread was right out of the oven and goood. Then had the salmon salad which I really enjoyed. I will be back soon. Everyone was very attentive despite having a large private party. And...oh yeah, they have a wine list now.

The food was awesome.... The service is horrible ... The food came out cold... The app never came... 30 min for a drink.... Not a good experience

2nd time here and it's still got great steaks! Highly recommend if you want some good quality food. Everytime I go through omaha we eat dinner there.

Look for the tree with the obnoxious blue lights and you'll know you've found it! ;)

visiting from San Antonio, Texas and 3 steaks ordered medium and all were cooked well done.

Smoked salmon appetizer is a reason to come back. we will.

Normally good food here. Tonight, however, they had limited dinner due to it being Berkshire Hathaway weekend. I wish we were told that when we made our reservation. Way to expensive for 4 people that didn't even order drinks. Food was so-so.

  • Dawn S.

The J's Bleu Chips are ridiculously amazing! Also seemed to be at least double the portion that you would get at Pig & Finch and about half the price. I also had the Crawfish Bisque, which was flavorful and definitely filling!

I'm gone

The food was awesome.... The service is horrible ... The food came out cold... The app never came... 30 min for a drink.... Not a good experience

2nd time here and it's still got great steaks! Highly recommend if you want some good quality food. Everytime I go through omaha we eat dinner there.

Look for the tree with the obnoxious blue lights and you'll know you've found it! ;)

visiting from San Antonio, Texas and 3 steaks ordered medium and all were cooked well done.

Excellent steak, excellent service. My wife and I along with our kids and my in-laws came here and it was very quiet. We had very quick service and all of our steaks were cooked to absolute perfection. The filet was very tender and tasted absolutely amazing. Will be going back here again.

Smoked salmon appetizer is a reason to come back. we will.

Normally good food here. Tonight, however, they had limited dinner due to it being Berkshire Hathaway weekend. I wish we were told that when we made our reservation. Way to expensive for 4 people that didn't even order drinks. Food was so-so.

We have been here a few times. 2 times we sat on the patio for appetizers and a bottle of wine and once inside. We LOVE the blue cheese chips and the bruchetta was just so so.
