Saw Jim's as I was going through the neighborhood and decided to stop to try their barbecue. Jim's has a drive up or you can order from inside. No tables. Only about 7 stools and a small (narrow) counter you can eat on if you don't get it to go. I decided to try the pork barbecue sandwich. You choose your sauce; mild, medium or hot. I had medium. Not bad. Got a side of slaw and a peach cobbler for dessert. Both were decent. The pork did not have a lot of smoke. Thought it was pretty plain to be quite frank. Probably would not get the pork sandwich again. Might have to try the ribs next time. If you are chasing barbecue in the Omaha area, you have to try Jim's Rib Haven as well. Post your review on Yelp and let's see if we agree or disagree,

Spicy beef ribs, spicy BBQ chicken, peach cobbler. Those are the only dishes on the menu worth getting. It's definitely a dive but if you're looking for proper smoked ribs, this is it. I don't trust a rib joint where you can't smell it before you can see it, and you can smell Jim's from blocks away.

Judging by the previous reviews I decided I'd try it out. I was really dissappointed. Anything they say is a "sandwich" is just served with 2 pieces of white bread stuck on top of it. The ribs were ok, but nothing to write home about. I might stop by sometime again, but then again, I might not.

Spoiled by the great BBQ of Kansas City, e.g. Oklahoma Joe's, Fiorella's Jack Stack and Arthur Bryant's, I am often disappointed by what passes for BBQ in the Omaha/Lincoln area. Last night we tried Jim's for the first time and all we can say is WOW! The beef ribs were wonderful, big, meaty, tender and a great flavor; no sauce needed! The beef dinner, also very good, was a huge mound ample for two meals. The medium sauce has plenty of spice with a touch of after burn that is just right; good sauce! Ask for sauce on the side or they pour it right on the meat. Didn't see brisket or burnt ends on the menu, but with Beef Ribs and shredded beef this good, that's all right. Beans were very nice and tasty and even the cole slaw passed muster with flying colors; fresh and flavorful and not drenched in sauce. Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of the dinners (rarely do I order a sandwich at a BBQ place, I want some leftovers). Jim's is my new favorite in Omaha till someone proves otherwise. Worth the trip anytime one is within an hour or two of Omaha.

Passed by many times. Finally dropped in. If you want to get your rib on, you better have your vest on, bullet proof that is. Scary neighborhood. The ribs are ok but sub quality meat. It would help to remove the membrane. The cobbler is fair. The prices are reasonable. Do not flash cash out in the open.

Yum yum, a real family business. Great ribs and I loved the spicy chicken and the potato salad had a buttery smooth taste unlike any I've experienced since my southern grandmother passed away in 1997. The beans were deliciously sweet and smokey, a perfect complement to their amazing sauce. My only dismay was how small the eat in part was and no nearby place to eat outside.

The BBQ is actually pretty good here. Since the concept is "Famous Dave's meets fast food," you can only order via the drive-thru window. For a rib place, the speed is fairly decent, except when the person in front of you has to yell out "Y'ALL TAKE FOOD STAMPS?" every other sentence. One suggestion would be to invest in styrofoam. Remember, this is a BBQ place and BBQ is infamously messy. I got my food in one of those paper boats, wrapped in paper bag, wrapped in plastic bag. I don't want to feel like I'm opening a hastily-wrapped Christmas gift, and I'm quite sure a styrofoam container will help reduce the chance of a huge mess. Just sayin'.

I have been hoping for some for some real BBQ in Omaha ever since a couple of the serious BBQ places closed a few years ago . I know everybody loves this place, but for me, as much as I wanted this to be awesome......it just wasn't. Spent 20 minutes waiting in the drive thru line, only to be not greeted by rude staff. When I get BBQ, I get ribs, and these ribs were fatty and overcooked in my opinion. Sauce that was supposed to be spicy had no kick to it, and they left out part of our order. The peach cobbler was absolutely fresh, home made, and delicious, but that is not the reason I went there. Prices are also a bit high for what you get (had to ask for pickles and bread, which should come standard at any true BBQ joint). If you are visiting Omaha, be advised that this restaurant is not in a transitioning area like Benson, or in a tourist friendly area like The Old Market or Midtown Crossing where you are going to want to ride your bike, or get out and stretch your legs and walk around. 38th & Ames is a very high crime area.

This is a hit or miss BBQ joint. I have been there where the ribs were some of the best I've had in Omaha, than other times it's a waste of $15! The last couple of times I've been there, the ribs were swimming in the sauce. I prefer sauce on the side when I eat BBQ.

The sauce is ok. The meat isn't a great cut of meat. People in this area love it tho. But I have tried several times and it just taste like a waste of calories.

This is one of those hidden gems that always makes the trip worthwhile, but you have to order to the place's strengths to really get the full benefit. I've had a lot items off of the menu, but nothing tops a full rack of ribs with the spicy -- and I stress, the spicy -- sauce. The ribs always have a nice charred flavor and the sauce is to die for, as it perfectly complements the meat and has just a nice, slow burn that makes beer seem like heaven. The peach cobbler is also worth risking your life for, which you will do if you draw attention to yourself in this neighborhood. Use the drive-thru window and make your escape to a safe location to eat.

The ribs, chicken and peach cobbler are excellent.

Ate in...best to take out...bad hood. They seem to have an attitude and food was not that great.

Great ribs and pork sandwiches and a hot sauce that is scorching. I also find the jalapeno poppers hard to resist. With a miniscule seating area and a questionable locale, I would suggest getting carry out via the drive through.

Went to Jim's for the first time tonight. It was fabulous. The family pack mentioned by the previous reviewer was not available, as they were out of chicken. Too bad, because I'll bet they serve a mean bird. The ribs and rib tips were out of this world. Pulled pork sandwich was the best BBQ sandwich I've ever eaten, without a doubt. Reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. I wish I would have remembered to order some peach cobbler too...next time I guess!
