We had dinner with friends who were visiting from out of town, and had 4 kids under 5. The staff was great and really accommodating. The food is good, tho on the heavy side. My pan fried meatball sandwich didn't sit too well, but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

I really enjoy this place. was super busy when we came in so we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was over the top friendly and outgoing. even with a full house he was taking care of all the drink needs and still having a fun conversation with lots of people. Lots of great Italian American food choices on the menu. I ended up with the fettuccine alfredo. The cream was good however I was sad the noodle were overcooked. Cant be an Italian place with soggy way past al dente noodles. Was disappointed with the noodle but the sauce and chicken were very good. Had the pasta been cooked right this would have received a 4 star review :)

Went to Jimi's for the first time between peak lunch and dinner hours for a late lunch and we were one of 3 tables seated. You seat yourself, and I thought that the service was really exceptional today. I do realize I was one of only 3 tables there so that could be why but we were greeted twice upon walking in the door and our server was great, checking on us frequently and filling our waters. The menu includes mostly italian pasta dishes (all your classic favorites in my opinion) for entrees, but also has a wide variety of salads, sandwiches and apps. We settled on the crabcake sandwich and mostaccioli with italian sausage. The sandwich was good, and the pasta was simple but also good. This seems like a restaurant where the food isn't trying to be anything pretentious and is likely always consistent. It had a homely feel, which I liked. The decor and set up did not bother me like it does others in their reviews. I suppose during lunch its clearly more of a restaurant so maybe in the evenings that is when the restaurant/bar vibe is a little strange. I have seen a lot of people dining here in the weekends as I drive by, so I know it is a popular weekend spot. Overall someplace I would be happy to dine at again and try more menu items.

We went out on this occasion to celebrate. It was slow for a Tuesday before the holiday, but the team at Jimi D did not disappoint. We started off with calamari that was served to perfection. For entrees, I enjoyed the Blackened Salmon Sandwich. What hooked me to this choice was the cream cheese, but it was subtle and not over bearing. My wife ordered the grilled steak salad. The meat was cooked to order (medium) but the dressing on the salad was tasteful but over bearing - will ask for it on the side. Finally, the small fry ordered a kids cheeseburger that comes with an adult serving of fries. All in all, a great atmosphere to celebrate for a new job and we were well taken care of. We would definitely come back.

Can I give 6 stars? It was a hard decision, but I ordered linguine & clams. Best I've ever had, with the clams steamed in the Shell and bruchetta tomatoes that tasted incredibly fresh. We had gnocchi bites as an appetizer. Super tasty. Our waitress was perfect. She gave us menu recommendations and had just the right amount if attention for us. The place was comfortable, not too noisy, though the bar wasn't far from our table. I want to go back and try mahi mahi tacos.

Delicious food here. My son had the Chicken Fingers with fries. My wife had the Mahi Mahi tacos and I had the burger. The tacos weren't super spicy which is good for those who aren't as tolerant. However, we think it could've been spicier. The Empyrean Mango IPA wasn't very "mango-y". Brandon was a great server and gave us some small samples. Would definitely come here again.

Cleanliness 4 Service 4 Food Quality 4 Likelihood 4 1-5 (5 Best!) 4.0 Simply put... a good local eatery that provides great food, at a good price, with wow service, in a good location that is clean. There isn't an appetizer that we don't like. The entrees are flavorful, made from scratch, and hot when they arrive. The service is comfortable, engaging, and requires the guest to do nothing but sit back and enjoy the meal experience. We try and get here at least once or twice a month with friends for dinner. This meal was with 4 of us. Our server was awesome. Great job.

I came in before I was going to an event in the area. I came in with a fellow Yelper who needed a ride to said event. the cool thing about Yelp is that you get to meet some really cool people and some of us are just jerks. Take your pick. Anyways, up to the bar I sat and grabbed a seat. we had about 35 minutes to kill. that was great because the staff seemed overwhelmed by just the patrons at the bar area, not counting the tables. They really weren't busy and the attention given to a new customer was such that I won't be returning. In the time I was there, I managed to have 1 beer. Anyone that knows me is aware that the timeframe would have allowed me more than just a beer. I am thankful that the event was awesome and I will go back to Saigon Bowl, but skip Jimi D's in the future. TL;DR: Inattentive service, minimal selection, wasted time

I've been to Jimi D's twice and I already can't wait to go back. We started with the gnocchi, which comes with three dipping sauces and is quite good. The linguine and claims are excellent. It comes in this creamy Parmesan sauce that is just divine. I highly recommend it. I understand that the atmosphere is confusing to some people. All I can say is don't judge the book by it's cover. This is a very good Italian restaurant that happens to be in a sports bar. Go with it and enjoy. You can seat yourself and enjoy very reasonably priced cocktails to boot!

My husband and I used to frequent Jimi D's more often a few years ago when we still drank beer and there weren't as many options in the neighborhood yet. We used to like to eat our meal at the bar while watching an NFL game that wasn't on regular tv (go Saints!). I've had many items on the menu, my favorites being the sandwiches or salads for lighter fare. I remember the Italian grilled cheese with proscuitto and The Midway being really good (but big and messy). My husband usually opted for the steak sandwich though I don't see it on the menu now. The only thing I really didn't like was the gnocchi but maybe I just don't like gnocchi since I've never had it anywhere else. The atmosphere is nice but not snooty and prices are reasonable. I have a $10 off coupon from restaurant.com so I'll need to go back soon!

I really enjoy Jimi D's. The staff is friendly and the food is quite tasty. The spinach and artichoke dip is probably the best I've had and I love their gnocchi dish. Also, as a lot of other people have mentioned...their sweet potato fries are amazing.

Based on other reviews I was pretty stoked about trying out Jimi D's, I even had a Living Social deal to use. Went on a Friday night and the place is a little dark for my tastes. Decor was nice and there was plenty of seating. Our waitress seemed friendly and attentive, took our order and that's where her good service ended. We ordered fried pickles as an appetizer and my wife and daughter both had fettuccine alfredo, one with chicken and I had the chicken parmesan. My daughter and I also had french onion soup. After quite a wait we finally got our soup, which was very good, highlight of the meal, lots of cheese and bread and the broth was spot on. After another wait, our entrees arrived but no pickles, I asked and she simply forgot them, even though I saw her write it down. This mediocre service also involved my biggest pet peeve, NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO YOUR TABLES. We were constantly chasing her down for refills or what not. It wasn't that busy. The fettuccine and alfredo sauce were also very good, however, the chicken was dry and overcooked. Which leads me to my dish, the chicken parmesan was way over done, so much that the breading looked charred, now if I was having the char buffed wings at Oscar's that would be fine, but not this. I mentioned something to the waitress and was promptly blown off. We finished with the brownie sundae, which was also spot on. Super rich, lots of ice cream and fudge, just plain good. We shared it and asked for 3 spoons, we got one and our waitress was no where to be found again until the check came. It's sad that a service experience can so sour a somewhat decent meal but it did. I have zero inclination of returning. Seems like a pretty good spot for a drink and a meal but damn it, you only get one chance to make a good impression in my book, especially with so many choices in town. Food was 4 stars despite the over done chicken, atmosphere a 3, simply because it's so dark, and customer service is a 2, that's because despite our waitress, the other workers in the restaurant were there to help us out. Overall, it'a a 2.5 star for this reviewer.

Tried Jimi D's for the first time last night and was quite pleased. Started on the right foot with a Bombay Sapphire martini with a twist that was a "nice" one and reasonably priced at $6.50. Same size and quality martini would go for $8 - $12 elsewhere. Girlfriend had a sugary grapefruit cocktail which she also liked. Side Caeser salad was good. Girlfriend had French onion soup which was very good but filling. For entrees, I had angel hair pasta with shrimp that was OK but not special. She had linguine with clams in a cream sauce that was absolutely delicious. Lucky for me she was pretty full after the soup so I got to finish most of her entree. No complaints with service or ambiance. Perhaps it's a bit incongruous to have a nice meal in an airy sports bar setting, but I like the "fishbowl" effect of floor-to-ceiling windows and a few stray baseball games on TV.

This is the best place in Omaha in its category. The food is good the service is great and personalized. I lived her 2-3 years ago and this place was the only place that stuck in my memory. The wings are served with house made pickled veggies great beer selection. I've looked at the menu several times and it's leaps and bounds above all your frozen fried food that is being served at local spots. Great job!!!

  • Bethany W.

Service was great! They were very attentive and helpful. The food came out and it was all very tasty. We had the fish tacos, the crab cake sandwich (which was on a homebaked ciabatta) and the patty melt. All delicious and filling portion sizes.

Dog friendly patio! I've been here several times but only recently found out they are dog friendly. While at Artsarben we got hungry and wanted a sit-down place. Most of the places we asked in Artsarben village were surprisingly not dog friendly or wanted us to tie the dog outside of their patio while we ate. Not what I wanted to do so we went here and had a great time. They usually have some pretty good drink specials and even so the draft beers are a pretty decent price. We had some wings and calamari and both were decent. The calamari was a little greasy this time, but I've had it plenty of times so hopefully this was a fluke.

Went there pretty late for dinner (9:45 p.m.) and it was great. We just got sandwiches, but all of them were hot and freshly made. I wondered whether the fries would taste like they were made earlier in the evening, but all were piping hot. The service also was excellent. Only minor criticism was that my soda pop tasted a little flat, but so what. The food was awesome.

Amanda G. is an amazing waitress, our absolute favorite. The food is delicious and came out fast. Drinks from the bar are very affordable and there is a wide variety of liquor. The regular beef lasagna, the artichoke dip, and house soup are a must. We love coming here and try to come a couple times a month. Love.

The food was really good as always. However, every-time I go the servers are always rude. Once someone finally came to the front and told us we could sit anywhere, it then took almost 10 minutes before anyone greeted us at the table. They act like they are too snooty for the customers, which is strange because I cannot figure out why from looking at them. When the outfit that the server is wearing is too disruptive to the point I can't listen to a conversation at my table, there is a problem. On top of that the server we had this time, Joy, shorted the change we were suppose to get back. We were suppose to get back $9.44, and only received the $9 back. We obviously didn't say anything because it's .44 cents, but still thought it was a very strange thing to happen. I just feel ever since I started coming here over the past couple years, it has gone more downhill every time.

It's all about the a midway for me. Been going there for three years and dabbled nearly everything on the menu. So far, every single item to include apps is at a minimum good; most great. It's a spectacular spot to sit outside in warmer weather after work for a drink or two and an awesome spot for dinner or an easy in and out lunch during the workweek or weekend. Definitely recommend.

I have been here several times, most recently this afternoon. Today I had the French onion soup and bruchetta. Both were excellent. My friend had the chilled BLT soup and Mediterranean salad. She said the soup didn't taste like a BLT, like the server told us it would, but said it was very good regardless. Over the last year or so I have had several items on their menu and have enjoyed them all. My only comment would be that if you order a salad, get your dressing on the side. They tend to have a heavy hand with the dressing. The service is always quick and friendly to a fault. The restaurant and bathrooms are clean and well kept. I would recommend Jimi D's to anyone looking for great food & service in a relaxed environment.

I have been here for drinks in the past, but never for food. I see so many of my friends check in here on various social media-so I thought I would give it a try as I was getting my hair cut next door. I even saw two groups of friends while I was at at the eatery. I want to say that I will be going back to Jimi D's and trying some of the other dishes and probably upgrading this review. I got into the place pretty much right after they opened for the day as there were only a couple of other people there and waitstaff and bartender was still working on some opening duties. Sat at the large bar and was asked for my drink order right away. Was given a menu and there are quite a few choices here. I really had trouble deciding and so I went with something a bit different, Marilou's Pan-fried Meatball. I also asked if the french fries had a coating on them and was told no-but when they came out they did. I need to find a better way of explaining that. I now know to work with other sides here. I had this pan fried meatball pictured a little differently in my head, which is my issue not Jimi D's. I thought it might be open faced with a lot of sauce on the sourdough bread. It actually comes kind of patty melt style and served with a smattering of sauce on top of the patty and mozzarella cheese-like a chicken parm. Still looked very good. It was a quality spice filled meatball that would be great on any pasta in the world. It was just too much meatball for me for a sandwich-which again is my issue as it was not poorly made by any means. The service was fine-got checked on just enough. Nothing over the top and not a lot of chatting-but again they were still getting things set up. Drinks were well made. I really do not have much doubt that I am going to find many things I will like here-and look forward to going back now that I have a better idea of what is coming out of the kitchen.

I must say this is not your typical bar food. I've been there four times and my friends and I have always been very satisfied with both the quality of the food and service. Yes, you can get a burger and frys, but the other menu items are very good also. Drink prices were very reasonable ( happy hour) The outside patio is covered, and when it's nice out, is a pretty popular place to sit.

I really like Jimi D's. Its a great bar and restaurant, right down the street from our house. I am not sure how to classify it it... Is it a Bar or is it a Restaurant? you walk in and it has the feel of a nice classy bar, but the food is really good and not your typical bar food, more like a restaurant. They have a nice selection of appetizers, sandwiches, and entrees. They also have a couple different fish options and also a lot of Italian/pasta dishes. The Italian dishes are all really goof. The daily specials are always goo to. Drinks are reasonable and the staff is always friendly. If I could change anything, I would double the number of beet taps so they had a better draft beer selection. I gave it 4 stars, probably closer to 4.5.

Went there last night and had dinner with my husband. I had French onion soup- it was very good! Then I had the Alfredo. It was homemade sauce it was very tasty. My husband had the Ruben sandwich with fries and it was very yummy.

Went to lunch here on a Wed. Food was OK, salads drowned in dressing was a downer. Biggest issue was staffing. 2 people on the floor & 1 behind the bar seems pretty unfair for a place this size. On duty staff was busting their butts to keep up, but whomever manages this joint should be on Craigslist looking for a job in telemarketing.

  • Matt M.

Jimi D's never disappoints. There food is very consistent and they have a good staff. The spinach dip is fabulous (even though you always have to beg for more bread). Many other choices are excellent also - including the grilled steak salad.

  • Daniel C.

This place was okay... I was happy with the chicken parm I ordered, and the soup they served before that was excellent. I don't think the bartender had ever made a Manhattan prior to me ordering one, but he did a decent job. A little too sweet, but that's alright. It's close to the hotel I stay at when I'm in town for business, so chances are high that I'll be back.

Today the spinach salad was horrible...smothered in dressing it was like eating a salad and soup dressing at the same time! Very disappointed.

I've heard people say they don't know what his place is, a restaurant or a bar. This was my go to spot to eat and grab a few drinks when I lived in Omaha and after getting to know the staff they pretty much said it started out as a "bar" but the food became so popular that they've moved more towards restaurant mode. It's just a great place to eat and drink, great patrons and an awesome staff. I just wished they would expand the beers they have on tap. I'm sure once UNO finishes the Arena down the street this place will become the go to hangout after Mavs hockey games.

Slamming every time. I love the consistency. I tried the Pancetta (PLT) yesterday...and not recalling how salty Pancetta is, I wouldnt order this again, BUT it was delicious and I would recommend it to someone who enjoys some salty meat! Sweet potato fries- delicious - EVERYTIME! Just a really great neighborhood joint for me ;)

Nice patio w/huge overhead umbrella style blocking the sun. staff is quick to serve & very friendly. we ordered off main menu (altho i heard the happy hour pizza & sweet potato fries are yummy!) the side salads are good proportions with cuks & grape tomato. i ordered the grilled chicken w/veggies, nice presentation & good flavors, also had sliced french bread on side! I split w/my husband who ordered the spicy shrimp pasta. we asked for more red pepper flakes, as it wasn't very spicy! overall a great experience & we'll go back!

MUCH better this time around, Jimi D's! On the first visit, I was tentative about assigning a rating, since everything was so hit and miss. This time, however, pretty much everything was good. The service was friendly and helpful. Not much to report there. The food was miles better. The sweet potato fries on our first visit were overcooked, flavorless and definitely not fresh. This time, we were treated to hot, fresh, perfectly cooked and salted fries that we couldn't stop eating. The crab cake sandwich on our first visit was bland and featured no crab meat. This time, we both opted for the Chicken Ciabatta sandwich with provolone, pancetta, and pesto mayo. Wowzers was it good; each ingredient tasted right, and the bun was toasted to perfection. We didn't try dessert on this occasion, so I'll have to reserve my crushing judgement of their gelato selection for next time. That aside, however, Jimi D's earned themselves a fourth star tonight in my book.

it's place is fun n yummy! I always have a great time when I come. The food and service are great! I didn't think for a bar it would be good but they have a great menu, a lot to choose from and there are even options for a vegetarian. Coincidentally, I've had the same server on the several occasions I've been here, Mary, and she is awesome! Always on point and there when I need something! I'll definitely be back for more Mary, food, beer and football!

I met some of the employees here over at Crescent Moon and they directed me here. I believe Jenni is a bartender here, but she is also a greeter and all around great gal with a thousand watt smile. So do what she tells you to do and sit down wherever she says... the meal will probably be just fine, as will the service. : ) I did take out here, and all boxes were clearly marked. Bravo! My personal selection was a Midway... which Jenni calls the "manly sandwich" due to it gut-busting proportions. It was delicious. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you pour ALL of the au jus over the sandwich, roll up your sleeves, and eat it like a Chicago Italian beef... dripping all over the place while your mouth waters. Trust me on this. Other patrons can just kiss it if they think you are a neanderthal. LOL I had the sweet potato fries as well. Unless they are chemically treated, SPF are impossible to get crispy. No exception here. They were on the limp side of the scale. But they taste fantastic. And flavor is rule #1. Since your sleeves are still rolled up you can use the dip liberally, and perhaps even dab a touch of it on your pulse points. You might get lucky. LOL

Came here on a Sunday night because My Thai was closed, and Jimi D's was still open yet completely empty. The service was really slow and the food was even slower coming out. I was really hungry when the food came out, but even then it wasn't that great. I got the Midway sandwich which is like a French dip sandwich. I also tried some of the seared tuna wrap which was OK. The Midway was good but a little too salty for my taste. Also tried some of the pork ragu, which wasn't that good either; the gnocchi was really grainy and maybe slightly undercooked? The sweet potato fries were good but it's hard to mess those up. Kind of a dark and depressing ambiance too...Probably won't come here again.

Since Jimi D's was offering a Living Social deal I thought it was the perfect time to check out this local establishment. First, when you walk in there is not indication as to whether you're supposed to grab a seat or wait for a hostess. Luckily, a waitress was just a few steps away and mentioned to us we could grab a seat wherever we like. Personally, this is one of my biggest restaurant pet peeves. I feel like everyone else at a table "got it" and I am standing by the door like a dweeb trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do. We snagged a booth and were greeted by a very friendly waiter. The service was wonderful the whole night. However, this place seems to be having an identity crisis. Half of the restaurant is like a sports bars with televisions and lots of open floor space, while the other half has typical tables, nice light fixtures, and dim lighting. The menu also seems to be a mix of nicer Italian dishes and sports bar food. It just doesn't mesh well. I ordered the seared gnocchi which comes in a cream sauce with pancetta and peas and is served with a side salad. The salad was just alright and had no cheese and maybe a teaspoon of croutons. The gnocchi was very good though I found myself wishing there was something a bit spicy to break through the cream sauce. At around $13 or $14 I felt it was overpriced. My other half had the rueben with fries. He really enjoyed the sandwich and the thousand island which tasted homemade but said the fries were hard and not very good. I believe this was around $11 which is a tad high but not outrageous. They also have sorbet here though I'm not sure if it is made on the premise. We grabbed a mango to go to use up the last two bucks of our deal. I would only say it is average though. Overall, while we had a satisfying meal here I am in no hurry to return. I may give it a second chance if I'm in the area though.

I am very picky about my basic Italian food. This place never disappoints. The Alfredo is authentic and tasty. The service is friendly if not speedy. The French onion soup is good on a cold day and the house Italian wedding ish soup it's great! Try the midway.

This is a great place. I travel frequently for work and like to check out the local (non-chain) eateries. The food was fantastic. As previous reviewers indicated, the sweet potato fries and chipotle dipping sauce are the best I've ever had. They were crispy and flavorful. I had the Jimi's Patty Melt and it was very juicy and delicious. I sat at the bar where the bartenders were friendly and attentive. Ambiance was nice. I highly recommend this spot!

I visited on a Thursday evening just after 6PM... it was very crowded. In fact every table was full; however there were a few empty seats at the bar which we opted for. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered the Italian Sausage & Pepper Sandwich. This sausage is actually split down the middle before it is grilled, which gave it a nice "charcoal like" flavor on both sides. It was covered in sautéed onions and red peppers, and red gravy similar to marinara. Wow...it was so tasty and had a spicy kick to it as well! The toasted hoagie bun it was served on was unusual in the fact that it almost looked home baked...golden crust on the outside and soft on the inside. My dining partner ordered the coconut chicken salad and thought it was very good as well. Two entrees, one glass of Stella and a soft drink came to $40. Not bad for good food, great service and the satisfaction of supporting a local business!

I always get the pecan crusted salmon - it has always come out perfect. Even the side of vegetables are cooked to perfection. Highly recommend this place. The food could be considered fine dining while the atmosphere and the staff look and feel like a sports bar. Its quite contradictory but delicious nonetheless.

Pros: Pretty good food Cons: Strange atmosphere I want to like the new Askarben Village, as it potentially could finally make UNO feel more like a college village than it is, but Jimi D's left me pretty unimpressed. The food is good and for Omaha Italian it isn't bad, but the atmosphere is so weird. Like, what is it? A sports bar, an Italian restaurant, a college hang out, an older person hang out, what's it aiming for? The odd feeling rubbed me the wrong way, and the food wasn't good enough to warrant a return visit.

I absolutely love the midway and that soup which name escapes me is the best soup I believe I have ever had. Staff is outstanding and if you go there more than once, they'll likely remember your face and subsequently remember your name. Menu is unique as there isn't one like it anywhere in Omaha. I've tried numerous entrees and at a minimum thought they were at least good. Most in the excellent category. You really can't go wrong here. it can get a little loud especially on a Friday or Saturday night. the outside dinning and lounging is especially nice during the nice days of spring and fall as well as the dog days of summer. A lot of young singles do frequent Jimi D's if you're looking to meet someone. Parking can be a little rough as it shares a lot with numerous other businesses. Drinks are poured appropriately and with a wide variety, you'll definitely enjoy that experience. All in all, I really like Jimi D's top to bottom.

Great service....at first. Once friends came in, I became old news and had an empty drink for more than 5 mins. Food selection was great, but food was lacking taste. I had the fish and chips. Chips were fries. Fish fillets were decent and not too salty. I had to ask to turn on the sound for Monday night football...really!?! Clearly not a sports bar or a bar I would go back on a sports watching night.

we went to Jimi D's for pre interview dinner/drinks on a Friday night. Our group consisted of nearly 13 people from Omaha, Kentucky, Illinois, Minnesota, North Dakota, California, etc and here is my impression about the entire experience: Atmosphere: it is a nice sports bar/restaurant with a nice vibe and attentive personnel. Drinks: I ordered pomegranate margarita for my first drink which I was not very impressed with. I thought it was watered down and a little bit too sweet. however, they have good selection of wines and beers. I ordered one of their Merlot which was really good Appetizer: their sweet potato fries with chipotle dipping sauce were flavorful and crispy. every body seemed to like it ALOT. Personally I am not a big fan of sweet potato fries but i was quite surprised with the whole combination and I will definitely order them if I ever get to go there again Soup: I had a small cup of blue cheese and broccoli soup which was tasty and not too salty. In addition, the size was quite right if you wanted to order an entree Entree: I had Steak Madeira and ordered it medium well. It had portabella mushroom sauce and blue cheese polenta which was crispy in both sides with nice texture. My friend ordered honey glazed pecan salmon and seemed to be very satisfied with the taste. couple of other fiends ordered different sandwiches and they all liked their food. I had a bite of Reuben which consisted of corned beef, sauerkraut, swiss and russian dressing. I enjoyed it a lot and probably I'll order that next time I go there. Overall, every body in our group thought the food was great and delicious with generous portions. I would recommend this place for a casual night out

Sweet potato fries!!!! I love these, and this place has the best! They don't put the wierd sugar/cinnamon sweet stuff on these, they douse them in flaky salt and give you a smoky dip. DELICIOUS! The rest of the food is good. I recommend the ruben, and stay away from the fish tacos (a little bland). When I first started going to Jimi D's they had the most delicious calamari appetizer/small meal, but the batter has since been changed to a heavy beer batter, so I wouldn't reccomend this either. But again, go with the sweet potato fries and their homeade soups are wonderful. The service is good, and the atmosphere is sparse, although they have local artwork up and I enjoy that. It is also a good place to go for drinks.

Fine, but I'm not inclined to go back. We tried to go here one night for an impromptu drink, and it was closed for a private party. Another night we stopped in for dinner and were half of the only 4 people in the restaurant. A little odd... But the food was good, although not exceptional. Considering the competition in the area, I wouldn't list Jimi D's on my list of 'must try' midtown restaurants. Also, I'm not quite sure why but the menu just doesn't mesh with the decor... almost like it's trying to cater to too many people. The sports bar crowd, the club crowd, the Italian food crowd... and why isn't their website up and running yet?

Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? Ryan and I usually have the same perception about restaurants. I had been wanting to try this place for a long time. It was recommended by another coworker. I didn't realize it was sort of a sports bar, but that was okay. We went in on a Thursday night at about 7:00. About half of the place was full and there was no hostess and no sign to tell us to seat ourselves or wait? I finally was able to snag a waitress who told us we could sit whereever. Most of the tables were dirty, including the one we sat at, it had been bussed but had alot of debris on it, which was kind of grossing me out since our kids couldn't seem to keep their hands off the table. After about 4 minutes, our server Tim came over. He was super friendly and have to say he was the highlight of the evening. He took great care of us and was very tolerant when my son knocked over a glass of water. I started with a glass of the house Merlot ($5.00) which was fine. We decided to try the fried calamari which was better than most I have had recently. It had a nice sauce but we were given very little sauce so most of the calamari were eaten naked. THe menu does have alot of really unusual items, including sandwiches that sound great. I had a very hard time deciding, but chose the Steak Salad (which sounded great because it had steak and bacon) and Tim said it was great. It was a bit pricey at $11.95 and DEFINATELY NOT WORTH it. VERY disappointed with the salad. Poor quality lettuce with tons of stuff you wouldn't eat (i had a big pile of hard middles when I was finished--who eats that anyway). The steak looked good, but had lots of inedible gristle. There were maybe 3 small pieces of bacon. Hubby had the Bella (portobella mushroom) burger. It looks good. Had large pieces of roasted red pepper. He said it was alright. Kids both had the Kids Chicken Fingers which were nothing special. The fries were alright but again, nothing special. Very disappointed. Again, maybe I ordered the wrong thing. I wish we would have gone to Goldburgs.

I've been here 4 times now. The food is always fresh & mouth watering! From the sweet potato fries to the chicken piccata, this place has a little bit of everything & it's ALL good. They have the best salads as well. Sometimes they can be a little busy but the staff is always amazing. They are always prompt, cheery, & polite. Great food & wonderful staff make this one of my new favorite restaurants!

Jimi D's is basically a sports bar with not so basic sports bar food. The menu includes a lot of italian specialties with a good variety of salads, sandwiches, and entrees from which to chose. After contemplating for awhile, I decided on the Midway sandwich (au jus soaked baguette with beef, pastrami, provolone, and banana peppers) with a side of sweet potato fries, and my husband opted for the Chicken Piccata. No scallopini of chicken with their Picatta. You get a full chicken breast lightly floured and sauted to a perfect golden brown. It was served over a luscious plate of lemony, buttery pasta riddled with just enough capers to add a most delicious tang. My sandwich was full of ingredients and flavor and big enough to feed two. And the Sweet Potato Fries, what can I say...it's all in the dipping sauce. Theirs is a chipotle dipping sauce that adds a fragrant smoky flavor setting their sweet potato fries apart from most. While the decor and atmosphere lack a litte, I will definitely go back to try other menu options.

Every time I go to Jimi D's I am not disappointed at ALL. The waitress or waiter are always friendly and attentive. The food is amazing! Try the Chicken Ciabatta with sweet potato fries--it will not disappoint! They also make really great homemade sauces and aioli. I haven't really been here for the bar section of the place, but it doesn't interfere with the dining side if you're looking for a date night. I also love the fact that they have local/student art up! :)

Delicious! I had the black bean burger and sweet potato fries. Both handmade and awesome. We had the crab appetizer which was too die for. We also had the calamari which was a bit chewy. The acoustics were less than ideal and I was dissappointed that we had to sit inside. I will definitely go again and sit outside.

So, I'm half Italian and I grew up in a family where my mother and grandmother cooked exceptional Italian food. I usually cant' eat Italian food in a restaurant.. it never tastes right. Jimi's is a full service bar with your "not so typical" bar food. One of my favorite menu items is the meat ball sandwhich..This tastes just like something that my grandmother cooked when i was a kid. I've also eaten the Gnocchi with pork... Again, it tastes awesome.. The service is good and you can tell its a family restaurant. The owner, his sister and brother all are bartenders there. The parents are usually there too. However, later in the evening, the restaurant flips from a restaurant to a bar. The crowd is pretty mixed... it tends to be on the younger side. Make sure you try the sweet potato fries when you go there..

I have to say I had a really good experience at Jimi D's. The food was great, a little more expensive than I would have expected considering the inside was basically a sports bar. The quality of the food was good and the cheese plate was delicious. I've never had dinner at Jimi D's, only lunch. I sat on the patio. Despite my good experience I don't think I would ever choose this establishment for dinner. For the prices I pay I wouldn't want to be sitting in a sports bar. Definitely not one with a bunch of drunk UNO students. Just not for me. Three stars due to of lack of atmosphere.

I'm inclined to give Jimi D's 4 stars but I think I'll stick with 3 for now. The food was good but nothing exceptional. It has an odd mix of Italian, American, and even Mexican. My wife ordered the meatball sandwich and I had the sausage and peppers sandwich. She thought that the meatball was slightly undercooked but not enough to send it back. She said it was good. It's not your typical meatball sub. It's one huge meatball and that's pressed down to look like a hamburger. And then you add the Sunday Gravy (AKA marinara) and the cheese. The sausage and peppers was good too. It was nice and spicy but had a bit too much sauce. I ordered fries as a side and they were pretty good. Better than most places. My wife had the side salad and on the plus side, it didn't consist of all iceberg lettuce. We at the bar since all of the tables inside were used up. The outdoor seating area looked big and may be an even better spot to sit when the weather's nice. After eating, we made our way to the shuffle board table to partake in a couple of games where we each won one. So few places have shuffle board tables so it's quite a find when I do stumble across one. The only other place that comes to mind is My Way Tavern. The atmosphere didn't bother me at all. However, it did seem like a cross between a sports bar and a restaurant but maybe a tad nicer. They have some interesting paintings on the wall which look like they may have been done by Claudia Alvarez. She has a painting of a baby in pink bunny suit holding a hand gun that's prominently displayed in Liv Lounge. The servers and bartenders were nice but not exceptionally so. While it isn't one of my favorites for Italian food (think Lo Sole Mio's, Nicola's, Carrabbba's), I will try it again.

I have been to Jimi D's 5 times. Everytime I've been there, I have been pleased with the food. My favorite menu item is the sausage, bean and kale soup! I have had the chicken pannini sandwich, which was good, and their pasta is delicious. It is a nice neighborhood restaurant, with an interesting variety of food.

The beer battered calamari was excellent. The sweet potato fries were ok, but didn't seem as special as some reviews.

I ate here with a few family members tonight. It has some decent fare, and a solid set of specials. I went with the Pasta Rosa + Chicken, which was pasta with pink sauce (we all know pink sauce, yeah? Just in case... it's marinara + alfredo). It's always a little disconcerting when you get something with PINK sauce, called pasta ROSA, and the sauce that comes out is neon orange. But I have to say, that revelation didn't really hold me up all that much... I ended up devouring the whole thing. I guess I was just hungry. :) The service was equally solid - a couple of periods where we were abandoned, but mostly, the server was very attentive and friendly (I love being in the midwest!). All in all, a solid place to grab a bite to eat. A great addition to the UNO south campus neighborhood - I wish it had been around back when I was a student!

I was looking for a good Italian resturaunt to take my visitor. I've tried several "so called" Italian places in Omaha, including Lo Sol Mio. I've lived in Italy so my expectations are big. I was very pleasantly surprised! I just about walked out as soon as I seen the place. Glad I didn't. It was very clean but NOT Italian looking. Sort of a bar/restaraunt looking place. The food and wine were outstanding. I tried all 3 dishes at our table and they were all great. For starters, I had the Vongole. It was excellent! Full shelled. My pasta was a little over cooked. I like it al dente. Good variety of wines and okay selection. They need to add limoncello to their drink list because I was over stuffed and needed digestive assistance fast! I will go back again when I need an Italian food fix. For sure. Service was good and prices were fair. Quality of food is worth the $$ you pay.

We ate there the food and the service was great. The selection on the menu was great. They have some items on the menu that I haven't seen anywhere else gnocchi bites. We will be back, it is one of the better places to eat in Omaha. It isn't any more expensive then eating at any other place.

My husband and I really like this place. He almost always orders the salmon pesto and absolutely loves it. I change it up whenever I am there. My favorites are the clam chowder (special), tuna melt (special), guinness battered fish and chips, ahi tuna melt (also a special), and the sweet potato fries. The servers are friendly and efficient. The owner is hands-on and comes to the tables to check on the diners. I really like this place!

New restaurants can be hit or miss. I think the reason that like 90% of new restaurants fail is because the 90% of new restaurants have crappy menus, poorly prepared meals, and mediocre service. If that's really the case, the Jimi D's has nothing to worry about. Jimi D's may soon be the #1 cause of obesity in Midtown, as the food is fantastic, I had a terrible time trying to decide what to order. I ended up with the prosciutto-wrapped cod, which came along with a andouille sausage and bean soup. Both were fantastic, which caught me completely off guard given that this place appears that it was mostly designed to be a bar.

Have to give this place 5 stars, mostly cause its right across the street from where I love. They always treat us well at Jimi D's whether we just go for drinks or do dinner. They have really extra good food for a bar. Try the ahi tuna wrap if you are okay with tuna. It is really good. I also like their chicken ciabatta. Drinks are a bit expensive but they do have a decent happy hour. Domestic beer and a few menu items. Atmosphere is pretty cool too, but Im not sure about the paintings on the wall. They have good TV's and a shuffleboard table. Overall, fun place to hang out

The quality of the food was great but the ambiance wasn't exactly appealing. I went here for the first time on a Friday night. I was really thrown off when we walked in and was greeted by a bouncer and blaring club music was playing. I was thinking, is this the right place? When we sat down and looked through the menu, it was pretty small. We got calamari for the appetizer and I have to say that it was really great. It wasn't out of a box and was hand battered... The sauce that came with them was awesome as well. It also helps that they give you a huge plateful of them. For dinner I had the gnocchi. I haven't ever had them before. They were pretty good. A little bit of carmelization on the outside and nice and tender on the inside. For dessert we had the cheesecake that was supposed to have some kind of homemade honey topping but it came out with strawberry topping instead. The waitress pointed it out and said she could get another, but we decided just to keep it. I don't think it would have mattered anyways. It was more of a whipped filling than the normal heavy cheesecake I am used to. Tasted more like no bake cheesecake than anything. Dinners went up to $13 each. For two with appetizer, dessert and a couple of drinks cost around $45. I would probably go back, but not so late on a Friday night.

The food quality was amazing! I was so surprised. I expected typical bar food--stale sandwich bread, pre-frozen onion rings, uninspired side salads, but it was the best bar food I've ever had. The waiter guessed we were vegetarian because of how we were ordering, and he was very accommodating and knowledgeable. No attitude about it like we sometimes get from waiters around here ("LOL VEGETARIAN I LOVE BACON", etc). We shared a basket of onion rings and a grilled portobello sandwich. Even though we ordered just the one sandwich to share, our server ended up making us each a salad, free of charge. Our italian dressing seemed homemade, light on the vinegar, with lots of spices. The salad had no watery iceberg to be found. It was all field greens with in-season cherry tomatoes and red onions on the side. The onion rings were unique and I dug them, though my partner wasn't so sure about the batter. They used the same batter you'd use to bread fish...kind of bready and thick and airy. It was obvious that these were hand-cut and made right as we ordered them, not frozen or packaged. Our grilled portobello mushroom sandwich was excellent. I think it was on ciabatta bread, though I can't remember exactly. It came with herb-seasoned mayonnaise and a pickle on the side, though we didn't use the mayo. Anyway, I was just so surprised at the quality of the food that I had to post about it somewhere. I mean, this is an obvious sports bar, but the details they've put into their menu are wonderful. You can tell that a lot of careful planning and genuine authenticity went into this place's development. I told the waiter that and he said that Jimi, the owner, has been a bartender in Omaha for years and finally decided to open up his own place. When he decided to serve food in addition to drinks, he knew he had to go all out or else his very proud Italian family would give him shit if he served crap. =oD Also, major bonus points because when we were there, we watched a local artist (friend of a friend of the owner) come and hang up a bunch of paintings he'd just finished. With so many Applebees and Outbacks around, it's nice when a restaurant is infused with real people and local inspiration instead of contrived kitschiness.

I was reluctant to try Jimi D's bc it looked like a lame sports bar. After reading reviews about the unique food, I decided to give it a try. The menu had a little flair, but overall, I was not impressed with Jimi D's. When I let the waitress know that my meal was missing a key ingredient she said "Oh, we must have run out. It was a busy weekend." Basically my meal was missing the flair I was looking for and the waitstaff didn't seem to care. Also, we never got the appetizer we ordered. I want this restaurant to do well bc it is in my neighborhood and I hope all of the shops at aksarben are successful, but unless Jimi D's gets some better waitstaff, I'm afraid it's not going to do that well.

I just moved here from CA, and this is one of the best restaurants I have been to in Omaha. I love Italian, and this was a great mix of Italian and some American dishes. A really nice menu for what is considered a bar, and nice atmosphere. There isn't a hostess... so what? That usually means go sit down anywhere, or simply walk a few steps to the bar and ask where to go. My bf and I went on Monday, and it was pretty busy for a Monday, about half full. The service was quick and friendly. Although, they didn't have the bottle of wine we ordered, they upgraded to the next expensive bottle and charged us the lower price. We tried the gnocchi appetizer. They were pretty bland, but the sauces made them really good, my favorite was the pesto sauce. I ordered the Chicken Picatta, and it was delicious with tons of capers! I tried their house soup with kale, sausage, and white beans, yummy. The bf had the Classic Philly Sandwich with sweet potato fries, which he said was really good. We were actually fighting over the fries since they were so delicious! So all in all, not spectacular, but really, really good, and I will definitely go back soon. It is leaps and bounds better than all the other restaurants that have been recommended to me in Omaha.

Service leaves a lot to be desired and the mahi mahi fish tacos aren't tacos at all really. Whomever made this dish should go to Ensenada where fish tacos were born an then teach the help not to over cook the fish. "blackened" doesn't mean I want "mahi jerky". Stick with the Reuben sandwich and you can't go wrong.

I have to say I am addicted to the sweet potato fries and chipotle sauce. By far the best I have ever had! I typically don't hang out there but will get food to go quite often. I have heard they do have great drink specials and the place is always crowded when I am in there. No the place isn't your typical sports bar but that is why I like it. I am so tired of the 'typical' sports bar that is in every strip mall on ever block. Jimi D's has a great menu, far beyond your basic bar menu. If you haven't tried it, do. The food is worth it. I have never disappointed. If you get a chance, try the reuben. Fantastic!

We came here on Sunday and it was fairly busy with football fans and people coming and going from Artsarben at Aksarben Village. We were greeted and told to sit wherever we wanted. It was a nice afternoon so we sat outside. There was a very large group seated next to us, it did slow the waitress down to help us, but she must have signaled to another server to take care of us. The Gnocchi Bites were excellent and the pesto dipping sauce was incredible. We ordered the grilled cheese with sweet potato fries and Marilou's Pan Fried Meatball with fries. When the Muffaletta showed up instead of the meatball sandwich, the Muffaletta looked great, and I almost told them that I would take it. The waitress caught her error and took off towards the kitchen. The person who originally greeted us came over at this point and introduced himself as the Jimi D the owner. He assured us that my meatball was down and being cooked as we spoke and that it would be ready in 8 minutes. When my sandwich arrived I could feel the heat off of the fries and the meatball, I had to wait for it to cool off so I could try it. It was worth the wait! Jimi then came over 2 more times and apologized for the delay and said that the Meatball was on the house. I said it wasn't necessary and Jimi insisted. I think next time I go I will get the Muffaletta!

artichoke dip was tasty but only came with 6 small pieces of bread yet the dip was huge. either cut back on the dip or add more bread. the establishment was extremely hot. I asked about the wings and was told 10-12 come to an order. I received 6 small wings, for $8.99 and they were overcooked, hard and little meat on the bones. I wont be returning.

The food is so far and above what you usually find in around Omaha. Never had a bad dish and I've slowly made my way around the menu. The soups are great. The service is always good. The food! I know a restaurant is great if I end up spending almost as much time on my girlfriend's plate as I do mine. Don't change a thing. Omaha needs you!

A brown clam chowder? ok, I admit that it's not the item to order at an Italian joint but it's also a lousy way to start a meal. The server never asked why the soup was not touched but we moved on. The pasta I ordered was a sizable Omaha style portion. Unfortunately it was well over-cooked and the sauce did not save it. A very mixed atmosphere that left us wanting a warmer eating environment. This place should close the kitchen and be the bar the employees want it to be.

My first time at Jimi D's and I am not sure if I would come back. Odd atmosphere. Okay food, nothing really exciting. My foot was WAY too salty. Service was okay- our waitress took awhile to get our drinks, and our food. They didn't real seem ethusiastic that we were there to give them business. Overall, disappointing experience. Reason for three stars is it was nor too good and nor too bad, it was just A-Ok!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
