I know nothing about New York Pizza. i have never been there nor probably will ever go there to New York city. you aren't going to read now about my thoughts on Authentic New York Pizza either. if you want to read about a wonderful restaurant with pizza and breadsticks being served to you freshmade with the most wonderful dough and fresh ingredients piping hot out of the oven by people who care about their restaurant and pizza, and serve you proudly the delicious thin crisp crust pizza on those racks I love so much signaling " you have entered a real pizza place do not be alarmed" . this is the place you need to go for that and some seriously delicious Pizza and breadsticks. I was recently given Don Carmelo's name as one of the remaining history of pizza in Omaha places that I needed to go check out asap. the name sounded familiar. when I was small I lived here and I remember pizzas and the different kinds and the names too. one I haven't come across yes is I remember stretchy cheese. Don Carmelos IS stretchy cheesey pizza i have been looking for since! Don Carmelos is DELICIOUS. DELICIOUS I say! GO NOW.. they are waiting for you at their two locations! now that I've found you Don Carmelos.. I will be back. plenty of parking next to USAVE Pharmacy and while you are at it- pick up donuts from the Donut Professor next door.. they are also truly delicious.

Stopped in for lunch. Not sure if we missed the lunch rush at 1 PM but it was quiet when we arrived. Order at the counter. Pizza delivered to your table. It's that easy. Pizza was New York style but fell a little short with the crust that just wasn't floppy enough in the center and doughy enough on the crust. But the sauce, toppings (pepperoni and sausage) and cheese were all in the right amounts. If you find yourself in Elkhorn, stop in. It will be worth your time, as it is measured in pizza.

Definitely was worth driving out to Elkorn. The calzones are ginormous, and super delish!

Sorry to say I did not have the same positive experience on my second visit. Will admit that the food was good, but the service was atrocious. I stopped in with my son for a "quick" dinner. We were fortunate to be there before a private party arrived, so actually received our food in a reasonable time, but then the problems began. I tried on multiple occasions to get the attention of our server, but she repeatedly ignored us. They were clearly under staffed for the private party and their dining room suffered. We waited patiently for more than 30 minutes just to get our check before finally going to the counter and literally having to beg to pay our bill. We will not be back anytime soon.

The pizza is here is pretty typical and I've enjoyed it on a few occasions. Most recently I was dying for a stromboli so I ordered some take out. I would have been better off sticking to pizza or just making my own stromboli at home. It may have been fresh at some time that day but mine was in a plastic container that was covered in plastic wrap which looked and tasted like the entire container had been microwaved. By the time I got it home it wasn't very warm and the dough was soggy; I only live a few miles away. Stick to the pizza.

Heading to Elkhorn, Nebraska and had less than an hour before my sons baseball game. We looked around and there was a DQ, Subway, Burger King, Arby's and then we saw Don Carmelo's. We hadn't had their pizza for years so we thought we would give it a go. Our waitress was both friendly and attentive. We ordered our meal which was their largest pizza and a side salad. The pizza came out hot and in my opinion was fantastic. I enjoyed their New York style pizza with fresh toppings. So glad we stopped and plan to go there again when in Elkhorn. The ambience in the restaurant is very plain but both the food and service were excellent. Love their pizza and the salad was good as well. We were able to order eat and make it to the ball fields within an hour! Great job everyone at Don Carmelo's. We will be back!

Had to grab lunch its close to Metro comm college . I love that you can order by the slice. Great pizza. The interior design could be beefed up quite a bit.

I like Don Carmelos. I ordered a salad with my Pizza of which I told her was for 3 people. When I did not get what I ordered, the gal that answered was very defensive. She stated it was because I placed a very late order right before they close, btw it 1 hour before they close. I go there often and was very surprised, but had issues with her before in the restaurant. I was very surprised as she yelled at me and said how am I supposed to know a salad is for three people. I explained and even said that is why I got two dressings. I was instantly defensive so I did hang up. I called her to apologize as we go often and she instantly started again. I kind of like their pizza. The inside is questionable, but I am so disappointed at the way she acted. I will assume she will read this and start in again. very strange experience. I asked for the manager she is the manager. I asked for the owner, she is the owner. This pizza is a 3-4 the rest is a 0. Oh I must say the delivery man was very friendly and timely.

LOVED IT! The sauce was seasoned perfectly! Cheese was yummy and stretchy like I like it. Crust was a nice texture and very tasty. Just a delicious New York Style Pizza!! Best of all- It wasn't overly greasy!

  • Chad K.

Good New York style pizza. I usually stick to ordering cheese or pepperoni. Crust has a great texture and the sauce is perfect. One complaint I do have is that I called ahead one time to preorder so our pizza would be ready when we got there. We were 10 minutes later getting there than I anticipated. When they brought the pizza to our table it was cold. A hot cabinet for storing pizzas waiting on carryout is pretty standard in most pizzerias. So, I have no idea what moron decided to let ours sit out and get cold. I just took it home and threw it under the broiler for a few minutes. My wife and I ate here for the first time back in 2007 or so. We had been a fan of other Don Carmelo's pizzerias around the Omaha area (156th & Center and 35th & Farnam - Both now closed). Typical family-owned business where one disgruntled relative left to open their own pizzeria under the same name and enjoyed limited success. This Elkhorn location has always sort of been "the rock" for Don Carmelo's. They do now have one open in Rockbook Village (108th & Center). Restaurant has certainly lost a lot of its popularity over the last 5+ years. I'm not sure how they can reverse the trend and I worry they'll end up out of business. Perhaps a better location and invest a little more in quality staff.

Food we had was good! Stromboli on point such delicious flavors. Why I am writing this is for the service, our server was amazing she was servicing the entire restaurant and still gave us amazing service. I would come back here just to have her serve us again!

I grew up in the suburbs of Philly, just across the river in southern NJ. I feel like I know what good cheesesteak should taste like, and this Don Carmelo's location nails it! Having lived in Omaha for 6 years now, and trying cheesesteaks (no, I refuse to call them phillies, the phillies are a sports team!) everywhere possible in Omaha, I can say hands down these are the best. The quality and slicing of the beef steak tastes just as good as a typical South Philly joint, and the pepper on top is a nice touch. The pizza, as a few reviewers before me have stated, is on point. True east coast style, NY pizza if you will. By the way, the antipasto salad is always fresh and filling. I've never eaten in the restaurant itself, I always call ahead and take it to go, but the servers there are always quick and friendly. If you want a good cheesesteak in Omaha, forget Lanskys and Pepperjax, and head out to Don Carmelo's! I swear if they sold Tastykakes I'd feel like I was back in Philly.

This has to be one of the top 3 pizza places in Omaha. My family has been eating at Don Carmelo's for as long as I can remember. I have had pizza in New York and this is very close to the NY style. I'm glad I live near this location now so I can get their pizza whenever I have the craving. Check it out!

Their pizza is excellent, it tastes homemade and it not full of grease. It's not a place where we dine in very often because the lounge is not very inviting, but trust me if you are after great pizza in Elkhorn this place is great!

The three stars seem a little generous after my last visit, however since it's been a favorite since I was a kid, I felt it deserved it. I always remembered the crispy crust, tender center, and generous toppings. However at my last visit, the crust was very chewy, and not crispy at all, the toppings were pretty generous, but didn't seem very fresh. The sauce also tasted like it had previously been frozen, or kept too long. The biggest, and I mean biggest down side was the cost v.s the quantity. We paid almost $20.00 for a medium combo pizza that was very small, and underwhelming. We bought three pizzas and the total was almost $50. Ridiculous! I will however say that the menu is expansive, the salads are delicious, and the service and the folks at the front of the house are extremely attentive, kind, and generous! All in all, I will most definitely be back if for nostalgic value only, I just better be willing to shell out the cash, which I will do.

Good: New York style pizza and great that you can order by the slice with a lot of different toppings. Not good: their salad is just iceberg lettuce with nothing else. Seriously, the salad is a joke. The completely crappy: their iced tea is out of the fountain. Oh, they try to fake you out with the container that looks like it is brewed, but trust me it isn't. After falling for that trick 4 times, I'm hoping I have it figured out. I really don't think it should be legal to call that stuff out of the fountain tea. It blows. Other notes: it's about as nice as a subway inside. I'd take a group of kids here for pizza after a ball game, but I wouldn't suggest it for a "go out" dinner. Perfect for a quick weekday lunch though.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
