Don and Millie's is a staple of Omaha. I say this because there are a few in town and even in Lincoln. do you know what a Frenchee is? If you did not grow up in the MidWest, then it is safe to say no. How could anybody not love a deep fried grilled cheese sandwich? Add that to the watery Ranch dressing that you get for free and you have D&M's. really great onion rings and fast food fries, too. They make fresh taco salads, burgers, wraps, footlongs also. The menu is pretty simple and done by hand. Add to your meal with $.99 margaritas that work just fine or $2 Bud product bottles (used to be a buck) and you are ready to go out to the bars for less than $10 with food and drink. good old timey feel, too

Don & Millie's goes for that classic sock hop feel. They play doo-wop music and there're vintage photos of the gang hanging out like kids did in the 1950s. It's like Happy Days all up in this place. Except it's really just a greasy fast food burger joint. With that in mind, it's one of the better fast food chains out there. Their burgers are decent. For about the same price as one of those fancy angus whatever burgers from McDonald's, you can actually get a real burger that's made to order. The fries and onion rings are a notch or two about regular fast food fare as well. Last but not least, they have 99-cent margaritas and $2 longnecks. Well done, Don & Millie's. Well done.

I don't get it... The milkshake tastes like chocolate syrup, and my potato soup, chicken fingers, and chili baked potato were really bad. The chicken tenders were dry in the middle - nearing a jerkey consistency - and not flavorful. The soup tasted off, and the chili baked potato is better at Wendy's! Most of the $13 spent went into the trash. Long wait at the drive through, food wasnt especially hot... I'm struggling to think of anything nice to say! How is this place so popular?

This place has one of the best burgers in town. The meat is always tender seasoned with salt and pepper, and has the right amount of grease with it. Buns are nice and toasted as well. If you want a great burger every time this is the stop!!!

Don & Millie's is close to my workplace and if I frequented it as often as I'd like I'd probably weigh 500 lbs or more! It is good for those rare occasions when craving a good greasy cheeseburger. Probably my favorite cheap cheeseburger in town! Always hot and fresh, tastes like real meat more so than other fast food burger joints. I also like the taco salad, the onion rings and for healthier fare, the smoked turkey wrap. The serve yourself ranch dressing is awesome. It is a pleasant atmosphere and I like the privacy of the booths.

Disclaimer: I came here for after having skipped breakfast and dinner the night before. I was STARVING when I pulled up here. So, perhaps I am being too generous in my review; more discriminating foodies can feel free to knock off a half a star of this "the thirst is real" review... That being said, although I usually avoid (and often dislike) burgers from chains, this wasn't too bad. The drivethru is a little wonky. I don't even drive like a big car and felt like it was tight here for some reason. Maybe I was dazed from hunger. Anyway, I had the cheeseburger combo (minus ketchup), with normal fries. The burger was actually pretty good. Tasted like real meat. A little peppery (in a good way) and warm. Good meat-to-cheese ratio, wasn't overly greasy, but greasy enough to seem like it was fairly recently made. I like raw onions and there were a lot, so if you don't like them, you might want to make a note of that. Fries were okay. As far as fast food fries, I'd say they are not as good as McDonald's fries, but not as mushy as the Burger King ones. Service was polite (the woman at Window #1 who took my money also showed up at Window #2 to give me my food). And I got my food fairly quickly. Prices are on par with a value meal from the national burger chains. I liked that you could swap out the fries for a baked potato. Not my everyday choice for burgers, but will do in a pinch, if you're in the neighborhood. Not much of a drinker, but I saw they had some cheap booze, for those of you care about those things.

I've tried everything except their hotdogs. The burgers are flattop cooked with high-quality beef and toppings. You have to try the Cheese Frenchy. It's extremely unique and I've never seen it anywhere else. If you have more time you can sit in the restaurant and enjoy beer or wine.

Pros: Greasy goodness Cons: Greasy goodness Don & Millies is a greasy spoon diner chain in Omaha ran by the same people that own Grandmothers. You don't eat here for a healthy meal, but everyone once in a while when you feel like breaking the rules, this is where you go. I love getting a double don and washing it down with an ice cold beer. The cheese frenchie, a popular staple from the 60s, is also on the menu. It's slightly too rich for me, but lots of people like it. They also have milkshakes, fries and lots of other junk food delights. Eating here everyday would be a health hazard, but use some self control and don't be an idiot like those people that sued McDonalds for being obese. Also, it's pretty ironic that the same people that own Grandmothers and Don and Millies also own Prairie Life Center... Eat junk food and go work it off afterwards? Maybe not a bad plan!

I don't have a lot of experience with Omaha burgers, admittedly, but I'm pretty sure this is the best fast food burger I've ever had anywhere. I qualify "fast food burger" as a burger that's cooked quickly and costs around $3, which the one at Don & Millie's easily qualifies for, as opposed to restaurant burgers, which are generally in the $6-10 range. Bonus for actually being pretty nice inside and for having a liquor license. You don't find that much since that adds to your overhead so much. Juicy, slightly seasoned, a little greasy, juicy... No, that's in there twice deliberately. It was something like $2 too and came out hot and fresh. The staff was really nice too and was open to explaining what everything was, because a lot of the menu is kind of confusing. My only complaint was that it came out well-done but I can't take off a star because they didn't ask. I mean, it's not a "restaurant" burger, so you don't get that luxury. You just get what you're given. And I'm fine with that, because what I was given was pretty damn good.

My secret shame. I have to admit it-- despite (and maybe because of) the fact that it sounds like a varsity-level sex toy, I really dig the Double Don. It's slippery. It's messy. It's naughty. And it hits just the right spot when you need it. Do me, Don. Do me good.

Last night my husband and I split a crispy chicken salad (mandarin oranges, crispy won-tons, etc) for a super cheap yet delicious and fast $6 dinner. Note that if you're ordering 'to go' you can get extra won-tons and chicken on the side to construct your 'salad' the way you want it. Sure there was lettuce there, but mine ended up being mostly won-tons, chicken, oranges and dressing. :)

Don & Millie's is a fast-food burger joint with a liquor license. Craving a hamburger with 4 patties of real actual beef, plus you would like to wash it down with a cheap domestic beer? Want a margarita for a $1 instead of a beer? Game on. Don & Millie's is what restaurants used to be before people starting worrying about silly things like their health. If you can find something healthy on the menu, you're not really there, and should reassess your surroundings immediately. Diet Dr. Pepper is offerred as a drink choice, which is hilarious considering what you're washing down with that diet pop. It's like serving a 25 ounce prime rib with wheat grass. Stick with beer instead.

The one thing I'm really fond of about this place is the .99 cent margaritas. Even though they aren't the best alcoholic beverages, they still are only .99 cent! Great place to stop grab a drink and something to nibble on!

This place never fails to deliver the best friggin cheeseburgers and chocolate shakes. Everything is delicious and the staff is always friendly. Don and Millies is the best best best best ever.

The damn best greasiest "fast food" I've ever eaten. Didn't get the chance to try the burger, but after trying the Cheese Frenchee (that wonderful deep-fried cheesy, grease-soaked bread goodness), I don't think I'll be able to order anything else if I someday find myself in Omaha again at Don & Millie's. Everything was absolutely perfect - even the fries were extra crisp and hot when they came out (and we came in near closing time).

  • Amy S.

Perfectly fine fast food, but this is not a diner. Diners serve breakfast & pie and have counters where you can sip your coffee. This is above average fast food burgers with alcohol available. I preferred the cheese frenchie cold the next day, but I'm a fan of leftovers. The onion rings were not great. They were fine. Like everything else.

On our recent trip to Omaha, my husband insisted that we stop in to quell his Frenchee craving. I was skeptical, but decided to go for it and try one too. It exceeded my expectations, and wasn't nauseatingly greasy. The cornmeal (I think) batter was a bit crispy and had its own flavor going, rather than just being the sort of tasteless fried coating I expected. I also loved that the Frenchee comes in four mini sandwiches, which made it easier to eat and a bit 'fancy' (ha!) I'd probably get a burger next time but the Frenchee has its appeal, for sure. I agree with those who make it clear this is NOT a diner. It looks like a diner, but their food is absolutely the fast food burger joint variety. That said, I appreciated the SUPER friendly and efficient service on our visit which takes this place a big step up from most fast food chains. It was also nice to have several good upgrade options, we had the onion rings and baked potato for just a few cents more than fries.

I love finding local drive-through restaurants. This is exactly what you'd expect from a local drive-through. Lots of greasy, greasy options. I give this place three stars, but not with any negative intent in my heart - it's just what drive-through restaurants generally deserve. Would I go back? If calories didn't exist, yep. Otherwise, I'm just not enough of a fast food fiend. This place was good and I didn't have any complaints, but I haven't craved it since.
