Went back yesterday for lunch and like usual, got the Beef Philly. It was amazing! I can't wait to go back already.

I've been here a few times since last winter, when my girlfriend formally introduced me to Barrett's on a bone-chilling windy night. This is now a bit of a destination spot for us that we have moved into our regular rotation of places to eat, especially when we have no intention of consuming anything healthy. I'll state up front that I've never come here as just a drinking destination, as I'm not really into sports bars. I know a lot of people do come here for the spirits, especially if they play on a sand volleyball league or want to watch some sports. Writing about the appearance of the place is not worth it, as all you need to do is picture a generic Irish bar, and you've probably nailed it. To an outsider, Barrett's just seems like an Irish pub that would serve up mediocre bar food. But this is not the case. Take, for instance, my two favorites: the Patty Mick and the Philly Beef. The Patty Mick is basically your typical patty melt sandwich, but with ham, a fried egg, and mayonnaise. It is outrageously high in calories, which means it's outrageously delicious. But seriously, there are a lot of wonderful flavors here. You'd think those three additions would take it too far, but you'd be mistaken. I had this the first couple of times I visited, and I was absolutely smitten. It's the best patty melt I've ever had, even if it is slightly unorthodox with its enhancements. So I thought I'd be forever stuck ordering a Patty Mick upon every visit and unable to deviate. But one fateful evening, I tore myself away from routine and ordered the Philly Beef with green peppers. I am so glad I switched it up, because it just might be the best Philly sandwich I've ever had. I always thought that Pepperjax had the best Philly in town until I had one at Barrett's. They are tied for the honor right now in my mind, and someday I might finally crown a winner (or find a new one altogether elsewhere). My pet peeve with other restaurants that carry a Philly sandwich is how they call it a Philly when it is really just a bland steak sandwich with some veggies. They just don't get it. I could get into this further, but I just needed to point out how legit they are at Pepperjax and Barrett's. As if that's not enough, I also believe Barrett's has the best Reuben sandwich in town. My girlfriend always orders them when we visit, so I've had quite a few bites of hers, and we both agree. The previous champion in this category was the Crescent Moon, in my mind. So, based on those accolades, Barrett's is a solid 5. ...BUT... The service is consistently poor enough that I really struggle with that 5. It eats away at me and really tempts me to take the rating down to a 4. If the service was mediocre, I wouldn't think twice about it. But every time I have visited, it seems like they are in complete disarray, slow, or unfriendly (or all of the above), which deserves a mention in this review. One time we came in and sat for about 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging us until I finally went to the bar and placed my order, because it appeared the bartender was the only employee in the building (aside from the cook). About 20 minutes after I placed my order, a server suddenly showed up and started swinging by our table to check up on us, but I had already paid and tipped the bartender when she swiped my card, so I felt bad I didn't have any cash to tip him. But I couldn't feel too bad about it, because I didn't understand why it took so long for him to materialize out of nowhere. Then it got confusing because it seemed like he and the bartender alternated between stopping by our table, so they started to get confused about which one of us needed a refill or needed anything. That's an example of one visit, but it seems like it's a similar situation every single time we visit, and the employees don't even seem that happy. I feel like this could be easily fixed with good management that would lock down the tasks of their personnel and schedule a proper staff to work the bar and dining room in an organized manner. Anyhow, I'm keeping Barrett's at 5 stars for their absolutely stellar food, but am attaching a warning to this rating for anyone who is picky about their service. Hopefully you'll enjoy the food as much as I do to forget about it!

Great food, friendly service and guests. How is there not a picture of their famous breaded pork Sandwich? Don't worry, I got it

Small kitchen but good staff. Local spot for CWS, especially LSU fans. The place is also home of the American Outlaw Omaha chapter so if you want to watch the US mens soccer team play, this is the place. Food selection is standard for a place like this but I never had anything bad. They also own the building next door and will open it up and close down the parking lot for big events like St. Patrick's Day.

Ordered the Beef Philly and it was the best I've ever had. It would make any Philadelphian blush. It was if Jesus was resurrected to personally create this Mona Lisa of a sandwich for me. Massive portions! The atmosphere was excellent and the staff was very friendly. Menu was great and everyone's food was out fast! Whether your looking for a Sunday Hangover spot, a place to enjoy drinks with friends, or even to support your favorite sports team, this is the place to be. Never been disappointed.

Barrett's is a solid bar/grill. Never have had any complaints and they have a couple of signature items that are very good. I always get the cheese steak. This isn't your normal cheese steak sandwich. It is more like a beef stroganoff sandwich. Rich and creamy. Next time you are there... try it!

Great spot to watch soccer games! It got packed during the World Cup 2014, probably my best experience of watching a match and I was only visiting Omaha. Apparently the food is good, most people ordered food and it seemed like a decent portion. I had beer which wasn't over priced. Actually pretty cheap. They also have beach volleyball, which we played because some people in our party weren't big into soccer. Only negative is the service. They were low on staff, so had to go to the bar if we wanted anything. But nice people once they were able to get around to you. Omaha gem!

Avoid this place if you are on a diet. Holy shit they fill you up. Good food, super nice servers. Great place

Barrett's is one of those places that you have to take for what it is. It is kind of a dingy little place with a VERY small kitchen. However, the service here is decent and the food is a cut above your average bar food. They offer specials that I hear are very popular. We opted for fried pickles & onion petals to start. The fried pickles were pretty good (for spears) and the onion petals were your standard fare. For entrees we ordered the Patty Mick and a blt. The Patty Mick was greasy and delicious - it's a patty melt with ham and a fried egg. The blt was decent and the bacon was above average. This is not a place we frequent but we always leave satisfied.

I've been here 3 times for lunch now and love the atmosphere. Fits the Irish pub theme and features tons of large tvs and an open kitchen at the front of the bar. I had the Philly steak sandwich and it was enormous! Very juicy and highly recommended. The bar staff is extremely friendly and accommodating which isn't always the case for many bars in the area. Decent beer selection with a few crafts on tap and I will say it again...great atmosphere with nice, warm wood ceilings and Irish decor. Will head back here for sure.

Great place for bar food. Pork Tenderloin on Thursdays and Fridays (while supplies last) is not to be missed. The chicken philly is probably my absolute favorite . Burgers are solid as well . I've never had a bad meal here.

The hamburgers were delicious. And the atmosphere was funny. I would definitely go back for bar food and beer.

My first time at BBC in years. Still the same great place to spend an evening, but this time I had the Patty Mick, the Patty Melt with ham and an egg. Nice stop on the Leavenworth run!

This place is one of my favorite places to eat and drink and watch sports in Omaha. Discovered in my early days of college and have been in love ever since. The chicken Philly is by far my favorite thing on the menu. It is so creamy and cheesy and decadent. Must get this with everything and get it spicy. You will probably have to eat half of it with a fork. The beef Philly, beef n cheddar, patty melt, and blarneystone are also awesome!!! I just had the chicken Philly today and the service was exceptional as usual. This cute guy with a man bun is the best at making Phillys btw. Do yourself a favor and go!!

We went here yesterday for lunch, the first time for both of us. I had the Husker burger and fries, my partner had the Rueben and fries. Both sandwiches were beyond expectation, although served a little too hot. We just had to wait a bit to let the fries and sandwiches cool down before we ate. Both sandwiches and fries were very tasty. The Rueben rivals that of the Rueben at Crescent Moon, which is my partner's favorite. She also had a Guinness which was on tap, always a plus. The server was very friendly, in fact, any employees we came in contact with were also friendly. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food that we had. They also had a Paypal option. We've been to other bar and grills where it seemed like you don't belong because you are not one of the 'regulars'. That was not the case here. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting. There are also several TVs to watch sports, an outdoor dining area, and a sand volleyball court. We'll definitively be back when I can try the tenderloin sandwich on a Thursday or Friday (the only days they are served).

The wing experience is horrible. They call them "drummies" and are microwaved and resembled something old, soggy, and too salty. The fries were good and my son liked his hamburger.

I can't rate the service since I never received any. An extremely small place to not notice two new customers. I approached the bar to ask if there was a server and I was told someone would be with us. 7 more minutes and I was done waiting. I had to give it one star or else I couldn't submit my review. I wish they had negative ratings.

Barrett's is a great place to relax, have a good drink, and FANTASTIC bar food! This isn't your traditional bar food. Well, it is, but it's got flair. The nachos are my favorite! They even have a grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich!

This is a great place to grab a beer and watch a game. The food is nice and greasy, just how I like my bar food. Its a sports bar but I think the food is definitely above average and the service great. Good burgers, cold beer, and loud TVs is pretty much all I need out of my sports bars and this definitely hits all of them. Most of the beers are the standard domestics, but they do have imports and some craft beers. When searching for sports bar with good food in Omaha this was on a lot of lists and it did not disappoint. Be careful on big event days (St Patrick's Day, NE football, Superbowl, etc) as this place can be very crowded.

You can count on Barrett's for large portions of fatty fried deliciousness. Lunch for two: $20. What you get: Two giant, never-empty plastic cups of soda (club soda with limes for us). A reuben sandwich on toasted marble oozing with generous portions of meat, sauerkraut and dressing that requires two hands and plenty of napkins to eat. The kitchen sink burger takes the basic bacon cheeseburger to the next level by adding tomato, grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms, 1000 island dressing and bbq sauce (I'm probably missing an ingredient or two) and is a tasty mess. Both sandwiches came with chips, but we went ahead and ordered a giant basket of curly fries. The only con on this visit - too cold to sit out on the patio.

Welllllll.............I did give it another shot and my statement about everyone having a bad day was correct. Tenderloin? Perfect. Service. Outstanding without being obtrusive. Brought a friend visiting from Texas and met another friend that played in the band with us. Great food and great atmosphere!

Great place to grab cheap drinks and awesome food. Get their Philly. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. The ambiance leaves something to be desired but it is a bar. The wait staff is always very friendly and helpful when selecting what you want to order.

It took me a really long time to go to Barretts... Especially considering the proximity to my domicile. But one night we walked down after dinner at La Casa. I always expected it to be kind of a dive, but was pleasantly surprised with a nicely kept Irish pub / Sports bar atmosphere. We had good service and drinks were on par with any other tap beers. I haven't had the pleasure of watching a NU football game here yet, but you can bet I will be this year, I imagine it'd be packed. Even for a regular Thursday night the place was full of people laughing jovially, talking loudly and generally having a good time. The food lived up to my (by now lofty) expectations - tenderloins!!! And my husband said they had made a fan for life in him. The only downfall was that service kept pace with the casual mood... it felt pretty slow paced because we were just there to eat - we'll probably sit up at the bar next time we do that. Otherwise, awesome place... especially the secret volleyball court out back.

Excellent bar food. The Patty Mick (a patty melt with a fried egg and a slice of ham) is my favorite hangover cure. The phillies are also quite good, as are The Reuben and The Blarneystone (turkey, cream cheese and onion mixed together). Their nachos are even surprisingly tasty. Pretty decent bar overall, but I typically just stop by to eat or get takeout.

Occasionally I find myself wanting to watch some live sports on TV and have a glass or two of beer and munch on some fried bar food. But since I don't own a TV and try not to fry food at home (I have plenty of beer, being a home-brewer) the only option to sate this occasional craving is going out. But places like Buffalo Wild Wings, Hooters, Roman Coin...the typical chain "sports bars" do not appeal to me in the least! What I prefer is a small dive-y local place. And being new to Omaha, such a place had not revealed its self to me yesterday, until I went into Barelycorn! First things first, this place is NOT a dive. Its a medium sized local pub. Its clean, its well staffed and it has a full menu of food. The sandwiches all looked great, and the one my friend had was reported to be excellent. I had the Onion Chips, fried onion wedges. DELICIOUS. The onions were fresh and of high quality. We split the beef nachos, which to my surprise were based on real fried flour tortilla chips! The beer selection clearly caters to the mass produced swill market, but they did have a few craft offerings on draft. PBR for 2 bucks. Why not?! There are several TV's and the seating is very conducive to watching them. This is a great spot that I'll definitely visit again.

You might think this place is a dive, but the atmosphere is authentic and welcoming. Parking can be a bit of a haphazard affair, but for the dedicated it's really not a problem. When you go to a bar, you expect bar food. Pretty standard, right? Same menu, same ingredients, same taste. Well, I'd have to disagree when it comes to Barrett's. The food here is a notch or two above your average pub and is freshly prepared. My favorite item is the red fish sandwich -- spicy and hot -- and 4 out of 5 visits that's what I'm ordering. But in the times I've strayed from my favorite, I've always had a good dish.

If you have a threshold for complacent Creighton grads, live in the midtown area and prefer the casual watering hole to drink life's worries away, then I would definitely recommend Barrett's. It has it's range of bartenders: the good, the bad and the ugly. But the good ones are damn good...and the bad ones, well, they can open a bottle and most the time that's good enough for me. I find the food to be just so-so....standard greasy bar food. AVOID the chicken drummies - worst wings I've ever had. But consider the spicy chicken nachos, they are pretty damn good, with plenty to leave on the plate. I don't eat burgers, so do consider that. My life partner and several friends claim they've had some damn fine burgers there.

How to rate this one? I'm tempted to give it 4 stars, just because it's my neighborhood bar and I'm partial to it. On the other hand, there are usually a couple of blah wine options and they don't make mojitos or anything exciting like that. It's just average bar food and the place inside is far from fancy. But then again, it's my local bar and I love it. It's GREAT for watching a sporting event and great for when I can't muster up the energy to put on make-up before going out. It's not a place that will get me psyched up to go out, but it's a place I'm grateful for when I want to go out with friends for a drink, but don't want to GO OUT. Make any sense at all? 3 1/2 stars. P.S. Food - very average bar food. Wine selection, non existent. Mojitos - they don't make them.

Nice little bar that's been recently remodeled. I'd have to say my favorite thing about this place is their two-for-one burgers that can be had Monday evenings. The food is great, the drinks are reasonably priced but the wait staff is NOTORIOUS for being sub-par at best. Loooooooooooong wait times for drinks or to take food orders, and when it comes time to pay you may as well saddle up to the bar yourself because by that time your waitress has forgotten about you for sure. If you don't mind any of that this place is A-OK.

I crave the Chicken Philly! Loaded with flavor--creamy from the cream cheese, and nicely cooked chicken. Also the salsa is very fresh tasting, and the Pork Tenderloin sandwich is great! Good atmosphere, at times hit and miss service, but all in all---cold brews, great food, and good location.

Wanted to update - had my OWN chicken philly the other day and it was delicious! Fries aren't anything special, really. Service was good even though there was volleyball out back. Definitely becoming a favorite place.

Typical older bar, laid back crowd, lots of college kids, especially when sand volleyball is going on. Monday night's 2 for 1 burger special is a great deal. Excellent burgers and the nachos are pretty solid as well. Try the paddy mick, a patty melt with egg on it. Good beer selection, not terribly pricey. Outdoor seating when the weather is decent. They have keno so there is smoking, but it doesn't overpower the place.
