This is one of those drunk-mood food type of places, although I'll eat it anytime. After you've been at the bar, hit this place up (it doesn't matter what time, it's open 24 hours) and order pretty much anything. It's the kind of greasy, giant-portioned Mexican food that will play nice with your buzz. Most of the reviews here mention the Carne Asada Burrito - get it - it's awesome. The number 18 comes with two of them, plus a side of rice and beans. Get hot sauce to go with it. If burritos aren't your thing, then get the carne asada Super Fries. It's a giant order of french fries, covered in steak, refried beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, cheese and guacamole. It's to die for. (Also you might have a heart attack after eating it). Fair warning, this place is super busy right after the bars close. The sweet spot is around 1:30AM or anytime after 3AM.

Great place for some Mexican food! I always get the number 18 which is 2 carne asada burritos with refried beans and rice. I can NEVER finish the whole thing I usually eat 1 burrito and half of the beans and rice and at that point im stuffed. My husband got 4 carne asada tacos this time and he got full off of them. They were bigger then he expected, lol. He also said they tasted like street tacos which he loves. Lots of food so it's a little expensive but it's very delicious and good quality. I've gotten my son chicken nuggets a few times and he likes them. I tried them and I thought they were very good, probably frozen but they aren't like any other fast food nuggets I've had. I really can't even describe them. The combos do not come with soda so make sure you ask for one if you need a drink! And try the hot sauce if you like spice, it's pretty darn hot! Left a lingering tingle but in a good way. My father in law is from Mexico so when we are craving some good Mexican food and do not feel like cooking beans all day and tending to steak and tortillas we head here for a fast fix! Very good and worth the money. Just make sure you're hungry before you head here! (:

This food is great whether you're sober or not so sober. Being open 24hrs is a major plus, especially If you want Mexican food at 3am that isn't Taco Bell. The chimichanga always hits the spot! Just be ready to wait a bit if you're going after the bars close.

Abelardo's is the place to go for a huge and great tasting breakfast burrito. I've only been here a couple of times but with a new opening on 120th & Blondo, it will be my go-to spot.

We have actually been coming here since it was "Alvorado's". Abelardo's bought them out a few years back, and the food and service are just as good. Many Mexican restaurants are either very authentic or very Americanized in their recipes. It is truly brilliant that Abelardo's effectively mixes the the two flavors and cuisine cultures into each menu selection- at least the ones that we have tried. The chicken quesadillas are our personal favorites here...they are loaded with cheese, as big as your head, and they weigh at least a pound each. We have also had the huevos rancheros the beans, the rice, and bean burritos. All are very good. Only four stars, because they do not clean/devain their shrimp- I know in some parts of Mexico that is standard, but that's a deal breaker when it comes to shrimp dishes for me.

There is a reason they are expanding and adding new locations. They are definitely doing it right! They have excellent, fresh food. Even at 3 or 4am, as they are open 24 hours. They know how to run a business. Hands down the best, ask anyone around.

Sweet mother of the wheezing baby Jesus! Okay, let me back up. I was in CA for a while; we lived in a small town called Pittsburg. There was a Hispanic market call Mi Pueblo who had the most awesome street tacos. I thought unless I went to Mexico I wouldn't find anything better. Wrong, so wrong. I am shamed and there is dishonor on my family (and my cow). I have found taco heaven in the hull of an old Taco Bell building. I can't decide if I like the rolled taquitos or the street tacos better. I had the green chile burrito last night. Spicy, savory and delicious, please do yourself a favor and put it in your mouth. English can be challenging there but sometimes that can be the hallmark of a great place. I don't think I would trust a blonde surfer dude to make my tacos. Give me tattooed, pierced line cooks any day of the week. Wait, that's a different post. Anyway, look at their website and take a gander at their menu, you won't be sorry.

I found this place while in town by searching Yelp, and was not disappointed. I liked the mixed fajita platter and also enjoyed a Make Your Own salsa bar. Fast and friendly service was a big plus. This is very authentic food. Having to go out back for the restroom was a tad inconvenient but certainly not a deal-breaker. I would certainly recommend this authendic and tasty gem.

This place has some of the best mexican food I've had in the midwest. The best part is that it's fast food that is homemade at a reasonable price. The beef quesadilla, chimichanga, and tacos are really good. The best part is that it isn't even greasy.

I was told by someone that if I'm craving food from ALBERTO'S (a chain place in socal that my friend and I have been known to frequent at, way back when)then I simply had to try ABELARDOS...EH is all I can say. I went through the drive through and immediately was greeted with "cash or credit"rather than saying "hi welcome to Abelardo's will you be using cash or credit" I tell him debit and he is silent for the longest time. Ummm hello can I order? "What do you want"is what I get after a moment of silence. So I'm assuming I can order...talk about rude. I order the super fries with carne asada and a horchata. The wait was SO LONG I actually finished a chapter in my Audible book I was listening to...I was listening to Game of Thrones,so you know that was a long wait. The food was eh, it reminded me of home, but lacked flair and flavor of home. I give them 2 stars because of the knock off California Alberto's, but seriously you need to train your workers to be friendlier and better efficient. Maybe it's because I went to a ghetto location they gave me ghetto service, but dude if you hate your job so much then leave, but don't take it out on customers, because unlike most people I tip at a drive thru for great service.

First of all, remember that Abelardo's is a fast food restaurant. When I talk about how good it is, I'm measuring it against other similar establishments. Don't be a food snob and claim that it doesn't compare to a "real" Mexican restaurant. This place is open 24 hours and they're legendary for fulfilling late night snack runs and satisfying the most vicious Mexican food craving. The prices are great and the food... well, let me tell you how good the food is. I live in San Antonio, TX, the TexMex capital of the universe. My daughters attend college in Omaha. When I visit them, I purchase several burritos at Abelardo's, I freeze them in my daughters' freezer, throw them in a cooler covered in ice, and drive back to Texas. Are you hearing what I'm saying? I import burritos to Texas from Omaha. I know it sounds absurd, but it's true, and if you try them you'll understand. And if you don't try them, that only means there'll be more burritos for me on my next trip to Nebraska.

This is one of the best, most high quality Mexican food places I've ever been to. It is perfect for a late meal or a nice lunch with friends. The food there is TOTALLY worth the modest price, both in quality and quantity. I highly recommend the Carne Asada.

    (5)
  • Jared H.

Fried tacos were bomb. My friend got a meal and it looked ehhh. The inside is kinda not what you want aswell but friendly workers!! GO FOR THE FRIED TACO!

  • Will S.

Now some people might rave about how good the gut-busting late-night burrito scene might be in other cities, but I have to say Abelardo's in Omaha stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the best of them. While not a 100% local chain -- they have locations in Iowa, Kansas and Spokane -- Abelardos has never disappointed my tastebuds when they're begging for Mexican food. And they're open 24-7, a serious comfort for those in need of comfort food at any hour of the day or night. What's good here? Well, lots. I'll run down a few of my favorites: Burritos: -Green Chile (pork with green sauce) -- Sooo savory and delicious. -Chile Rellono -- Best vegetarian option by far. -Carne Asada -- Seems to be everyone's go to, and for good reason. -Chorizo Egg -- Best. Breakfast. Burrito. Period. Tacos: -Carne Asada and Carnitas are booth winners. Even though they're street style (corn tortillas, cilantro, onion, guac plus meat of your choice), one is usually enough to fill you up. Not bad for under $3. -Adobada -- Savory seasoned pork. -Fish -- One of the best in town. Others: -Haven't had the need to try anything else, but I have my eye on you, Mr. Steak Torta.

2am and you're drunk and you don't care what day it is and you need a burrito. On the cheap because you spent all your money at the bar. Turn it up, the drive-thru is going to be awhile.

  • Nicole F.

I feel like this is one of the best Mexican food places I've been to in Omaha but that's not saying much... Plus it's fast food Mexican food. And every time I go it's kind of hit and miss. The last time went was pretty good but a couple time before that made me not want to go back. My husband got a peice of plastic is his food one time... Let me just say I'm really picky when I comes to Mexican food. I come from a place with authentic mexican food and I feel like everything I've tried in Omaha so far is ok or bland or just plain disgusting.

    (3)
  • Shane F.

This is an old taco bell building with slightly more authentic mexican fast food. The booths were dirty, and the combo meals don't include a drink. The enchilada sauce was mediocre. The burrito was huge but the rice was dry and the beans were average. My friend got tongue beef tacos but ate one and threw the other in the trash. There are many better mexican restaraunts in the area.

  • Elizabeth J.

Drunkenly had this last night before I went home after a night out with friends and it was beyond delicious. Had a Carne asada burrito and a taco. The BEST.

    (5)
  • Eric W.

Amazing burritos and chimichangas! They're close and open 24 hours! Only downfall occasionally they give me beef instead of chicken when asked, regardless food is great especially late nights!

    (4)
  • Kayla L.

I regularly get their two-chile rellenos combination plate, tonight I got it to go and I was disappointed what I got... So I recommend that you dine in. I love horchata(rice-cinnamon drink) and lately when I buy it here its tasteless. Their superfries are delicious! The burritos are great and cheap!

    (4)
  • Bob A.

Visited for the second time. Tried the Green Chili Burrito this time at the recommendation of Will S. Very good but not as good as the Carne Asada. I think it needed more chilis. Since I was with friends... tried the Abodoba quesadilla to split. Very good and BIG. Friend had the carne asada torta and said it was nothing special. Price is right... Three of ate, plus the split quesadilla, and drinks for under $30. Service is a bit slow... but I wasn't in a rush. lol

  • Big B.

Best Chile verde in town! This is not the place to impress your girlfriend-but it IS the place to impress your FAT friends! (I dont think I'm fat-but who cares!). One of the best breakfast burritos in town too. Their Carne Asada tacos are to die for. I've haven't had better Mexican food else where, including the south. Service can occasionally be a little slow but the food is worth it. Mexican sodas are available.

    (5)
  • Sarah K.

We LOVE eating here! Great burritos, great tacos, great nachos! I haven't had a thing I don't like! We usually take home too eat though...I am not a fan of the interior.

    (4)
  • G. R.

The Green Chile? excellent. Carne Asada? even better, in fact everything I've tried here has been at least very good. Everything is made fresh when you order with good quality ingredients, if only they had table service and a full bar. Abelardos compares very well with my favorite Mexican places in TX, NM, AZ, and CA, and leads me to pronounce this as the best fast food Mexican in Omaha. It is so consistantly good in fact, that were we staying in Omaha I would see no reason to eat Mexican anywhere else, ever.

I've been a huge Abelardo's fan the last couple years. When I first started getting into real Mexican food and came up with the idea of trying every Taco place in Omaha, this is one of the ones I started at. It's even better considering it's more of a "fast food" place where you can go to a drive-thru. I'm sure every other review mentions this, but their breakfast burritos are phenomenal. They're much, much, larger than any other breakfast burrito I have ever seen. They make them fresh and use great ingredients. I have never had one that was overcooked or tasted bad. The red sauce is fantastic with them. Their tacos, enchiladas, and quesadillas are also top notch for being from a fast food Mexican restaurant. I've ordered every kind of taco they offer and all of them have been cooked well, even the lengua which some places just can't get right. I'm not a big fan of guacamole so I order it with only cilantro and sometimes onion. Their beans are good, they actually have flavor, but their rice I could live without. It's edible but by far not the greatest I've had. Horchata, Jamaica, and their other drinks are fantastic. I have never had bad service here, employees have no problem understanding English or your orders. Place has always been clean and my orders have been timely. If you're new to enjoying authentic Mexican food or just want to try it, this is a great, inexpensive place to start.

Super yummy and hits the spot when you need a burrito!

    (5)
  • Jordan F.

The food is good, but a bit pricey for it's quality. Omaha may have good Mexican restaurants around, but I feel like this might be the best cheap Mexican fast food in town that's authentic. Being only a few blocks from where my wife and I live, I feel like they'll be seeing us a lot. It's saying something when I say that I want to like, try their whole menu. I can't wait to try it all.

Stopped by on a long road trip and so very happy we did! Northern Colorado could use a place more like this!

    (5)
  • Dr Frank F.

This is a take-it-or-leave-it restaurant for me. Yeah, the food is pretty good. But the atmosphere is pretty lousy. In fact, one cold day last winter, it was so cold in the dining area that we could barely stay there long enough to finish eating. It's okay, and I'm happy to go there with somebody who wants to go, but I'm not apt to pick it myself.

Carne Assad burrito plate is huge. Enuf for two. Good green chili. Seems clean. Not busy.

I eat here too often now that I found this place. This is a place I think a lot of people will over look but the food is great. I've been living in Omaha for a few years now and tried many many Mexican food restaurants, I finally found one I will continue to comeback to. I admit this was a place I did not want to try at first because of the open 24 hours part. I had a hard time believing the food would continue to taste fresh. So far I have yet to have a bad experience. If your a traveller going through Omaha or a native looking for a New Mexican food place check these guys out

  • Alyssa M.

Cheap. Fast. Tasty. While they aren't the best mexican restaurant... they are drive thru and extremely fast. The food is pretty yummy. They do grill their tortillas too long tho. They are also open 24/7. They are authentic... not like the chain mexican restaurants.

    (4)
  • Derek S.

Over the years and different names (Alverados, Avelardos... Did anything change? It's a mystery!) I've ordered many different slurred things, and gotten the correct order almost every time. They didn't serve me on my bicycle one time, but I imagine that is my own fault.

    (4)
  • Alex R.

Go for the hash brown burrito. Last week, I went in every day... It's delicious, reasonably priced, and the convenience factor of being open 24 hours makes this place a frequent favorite. Don't forget the red sauce.

    (5)
  • Sarah G.

I love this and the other Abelardos location for both late night and breakfast burrito action. Something about their hot sauce... mmm. It's nothing fancy, that's for sure. But compared to most other fast food options, far superior, if you're into things like flour tortilla's fresh off the grill wrapped around well cooked meat and melted cheese made fresh right when you order it. The taco's are traditional style (the cute one-hand ones), so for me the burrito and drive-through are king.

    (4)
  • Leslie W.

4 stars because its 24/7 and the best fast food mexican place I've ever been too! my favs are the enchiladas, ground beef burritos & the Arizona burrito ...

    (4)
  • Ben R.

I used to go here all the time when it was Alverado's. Great food for the after the bar night. Flavor was excellent and quick and easy to get with their drive thru service. I recommend the breakfast burritos.

  • Marq M.

I have been going here since it first opened and when they had a "V" in the name. I always get the same thing-a steak and egg burrito. It's massive and one of my favorite guilty foods and a special indulgence from time to time. No complaints about the food. I have waited in the drive-thru line here many times for an almost hilarious amount of time-you stick it out just to see what levels of absurd it can get to. Last night I went through pretty late and got what I always get-and for some reason they threw a bunch of extra stuff like tomatoes and peppers into the mix. The previous 100 times I have ordered this it was just steak, egg and cheese. So I brought it in as they made it wrong. I was given the stink eye and sternly told that I need to specify what I want in my steak-egg and cheese buritto. Felt like I got sent to the principals office. I will still allow myself this treat-because it really is a treat-but I will be on my best behavior next time!

  • Martina B.

Absolutely love this restaurant, I have been coming here for years. Their bacon burritos and quesadillas are deliciously greasy.

    (5)
  • Rowan J.

Cheap food, tastes good, open at all hours...what's not to like?! The interior isnt the best. It has an old school taco bell feel, but the quality of the food more than makes up for that!

    (4)
  • Audrey C.

Best Nachos Ever! I had a moment of intense craving for nachos, and looking around South O, there aren't many places that offer nachos. So I gave this place a shot. I had been to their other locations around Omaha, and have always had a good experience. This review is for their 30th & Q location. Just did the drive thru and enjoyed their free wi-fi. The carnita tacos were also great, and had good toppings. All in all, decent food and reasonable. My kind of place. I will be back again!

    (4)
  • Kevin P.

Great burritos and cheap. Quality of the meat is very good. Carnitas burrito is a must try.

Delicious food! Authentic! Flavorful and spicy salsas. Delicious carne asada burrito. Made fresh... may take longer, totally worth it!

    (5)
  • Matt A.

It's inexpensive authentic Mexican food, that doesn't mean cheap though. There is sometimes a language barrier, but man they are the best Mexican place in town in a hurry. I love all the places like Qdoba, Chipotle, Pepperjax, but this place is authentic and at the right price. Breakfast burritos from here are a great way to start a day. You never need to go to Taco Bell, this place is just as cheap, but way better and much bigger portions.

    (5)
  • Dave B.

Very good flavored. Large portions. Really liked the pork verde. Good pricing. Best Mexican in SW Omaha. Kids liked their food options. Poor seating options as many of the booths only hold 2 people. Nice salsa bar with more good flavors.

    (4)
  • Rene D.

My hosts for my last visit to Omaha raved about the chorizo burritos from this place. I love them, so I was game for a trip. When we pulled up to the 're-imagined' Taco Bell, my heart sank. It sank further when i discovered it was actually on the breakfast menu, and egg-laden with a strong cinnamon aftertaste. When I called another friend and told them where we were headed she squealed, "Alvarados? It's not 2 AM and you're sober; it'll taste like crap!" Heed that last sentence, people.

    (2)
  • Luis M.

You judge a deli by its Reuben and you judge a Mexican joint by its chile verde burrito. This is the real thing, people. I have no idea what the reviewer from San Diego ate, but I'm from SoCal and I'm half-Mexican and *I* say it's pretty good, especially given that it's in Nebraska. I've eaten in many, many worse Mexican places back home. This is solidly in the top third of the pack. Slow service through the drive-through -- maybe a solid five minutes per car -- but well worth it. $10 for a chile verde burrito, two cheese enchiladas, and a side of rice and beans. The wife inhaled her enchiladas and the toddler appreciated the rice and beans so much that she wanted to take the leftovers to bed with her and fussed when I put them in the fridge instead. Everyone was happy. Can't say fairer than that!

  • Brittany L.

We are in town for business and we found this restaurant through yelp. The food was very delicious and authentic. The building is small but has a lot of character. The drive thru is tiny and handmade. Exiting the drive through there is a steep downward hill so I would avoid exiting straight from the drive thru. The churros are the bomb. Excellent service and patience. Not even a long wait for the food. We will definitely go back before our trip is over.

    (4)
  • Andrew S.

This place used to be amazing but it has really fallen off in the last few years. The sausage burrito used to be amazing but now they just burn the hell out of the sausage and usually the tortilla as well. The carne asada burrito is excellent but they refuse to put enough guacamole on it even if you order extra its still dry as hell! They need to hit rewind back to 2002 and cook the stuff right.

    (2)
  • Elias H.

Pretty good for eats, especially when you got a serious buzz going.

Enchilada combo perfect every time! Fish tacos are always a hit! We visit the drive thru once a week and love it!

  • Joe R.

I use to like their food until I bit down on a toothpick stuffed in a rolled taco. If you don't mind eating food cooked in unsanitary conditions, go ahead and take the risk. Look inside the kitchen area and around back. YUK!

    (1)
  • Kevin K.

When I first passed by the building, it was a little off-putting (small and resembling a old Taco Bell). After reading the positive reviews here on Yelp, my friend and I became intrigued, so we decided to give it a shot... and I'm glad we did! The food (especially the Chicken Chimichanga) was absolutely delicious. The selection of dishes to choose from was very good and you simply can't beat the very generous servings for the price. The only downside is that the meals are served on styrofoam plates and you have to use plastic utensils. If you are hungry for authentic Mexican food on a budget, I would highly recommend Abelardos.

    (4)
  • Andra B.

Great Mexican food, but I wouldn't suggest eating a lot unless you want to blow up as big as a house :)

  • Brian A.

YUCK Alright, I live in Southern California 22 miles from the border so I admit that what I consider good Mexican food is on a hole different level that anything that exists outside of San Diego. Even Mexican food in LA is poor in my opinion but this place needs to be shut down. I got a carne asada burrito and a cheese quesadilla, simple right. Well I took one bite of the burrito and spit it out. My body instantly warned me that this burrito will result in food poisoning. Danger! Then I tried a bite of the quesadilla not poisonous but not good I ate two bites of that and decided to go hungry. The place is so nasty. The ceiling is caving in, there is no way this [place actually passed a heath inspection without a large cash bribe. Now you don"t go to Nebraska for Mexican food but it was 1am and it was open.. That must be how they stay open. Beware

    (1)
  • Melissa Z.

They are open 24/7 and they serve breakfast all day. Their chicken quesadillas are a little on the salty side, but muy delicioso. They don't skimp on the chicken at all.

    (4)
  • Ethan R.

The carnitas burrito is carnitas inside a giant flour tortilla. That's it! No lettuce. No tomato. Nothing but amazing carnitas. The cabeza tacos were out of this world good. Cheap and fast. A go-to when in Omaha. Muchas gracias.

    (5)
  • Chebator C.

fantastic burritos at a great price. if you like things spicy ask for the green sauce.

    (4)
  • Troy P.

Alvarados used to be very good, but a couple years ago, something changed. New owners, maybe. Their tacos used to be a fried corn tortilla filled with flavorful shredded beef. Now the shell is some weird puffy material (flour tortilla, maybe?) and they've switched to an almost flavorless, textureless ground beef. The refried beans didn't smell that great, and I've tasted better. On the plus side, my #2 combo plate came with a HUGE amount of beans and rice, nearly a meal in itself. The entranceway to the restaurant smelled like urine.

  • Rod H.

Absolutely love this place, excellent portions and quality is second to none.the roast pork carnitas is to die for! The wife and I really enjoy the food here you get so much for your $. We have never had a bad meal here.

    (4)
  • Brenna P.

Alvarado's is probably the best fast food Mexican you can find in Omaha. They have a huge menu, and the prices are great. They make their own guacamole and hot sauces. For vegetarian options, Alvarado's has a few items. My favorite thus far, are the cheese enchilada and chips with fresh salsa and guacamole. This place is also open 24/7, so it's the perfect night cap :)

ABSOLUTELY DISCUSSING, I have been here a few times each time it has made me sick. The place so dirty I'm shocked its still in business. TacoBell abandoned the place in 1997 because they could keep up with mainting it. Besides the cleanliness of the restaurant the food sucks. The enchilada sauce comes from a can, I seen the employees opening it. The food taste really bland. Really the best business they have is after 2:00 when all the drunks, stoners and other creeps are out, and I guess they need to eat too.

Cheap, authentic, mexican food, its great, its 24hrs so thats a HUGE Plus, the chips and pico are great, the 1/2 super nacho with steak is what I always get, its great, chips cheese pico guac sour cream steak, yummy in my tummy, lol its only 5.50 and its a HUGE portion size, great customer service is really what keeps me coming back, clean little place, I love it....

Best real California style taco shop Mexican food I have had since leaving California. Cheap, big portions and fast service. For you gluttons for punishment, I suggest the Carne Asada Fries which are a So-Cal favorite. They would give the Man vs. Food Guy a run for his money. The Carne Asada and Chorizo burritos especially were delicious and well worth the money. The fresh salsa is a must as well at the salsa bar. This place is not for everyone, especially if you consider Taco Bell or Chipotle Mexican food. However, if you have had California style Mexican food you will think you have found a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, it was that good!

  • Rachael L.

the chimichanga is fantastic, and huge! but the real favorite here is their guacamole. i love the delicious green stuff, and can make a mean guac myself, but theirs is very tasty. and don't leave without spending the $1 for an authentic churro. the drive thru does take awhile, but you can assume they are actually making your food when you order it, which is worth it. we also tried the chorizo torta which was different than I've ever had before. it had egg and a hint of cinnamon on in, which sounds very odd, but I would order it again. my only complaint on the torta was that it had lettuce, and I am never a fan of lettuce on warm sandwiches. simply great, and as all the other reviews stated, CHEAP!

Never been to this location, but I'm sure its the same as the one in Council Bluffs, IA. By far the best-cheap food you can eat that you're too lazy to make! lol. I have thrown this into my weekly rotation of places to get dinner from because you can't get sick of this comfort food! I've always been a fan of the steak and egg burrito until the Arizona stole my stomach away. This is the perfect hole-in-the-wall that's open 24/7 for those late nights you randomly feel hungry for something that could clog-arteries (but well worth it).

Hellified food on the cheaps... I can't believe that I haven't been here before. Guess it was just a little scary being a 24 hour Mexican place in an old Taco Bell. I ended up getting the 2 carne asada burritos meal. About $7 and I got way more than I expected. It was 2 big ass burritos (yes that is the official measurement for burritos... In asses.. Small Ass, Big ass. nasty ass... etc) plus some really good beans and rice. Not only was it a large portion for cheap, but it was really good. I ended up taking most of it home. (which reminds me... The other burrito is waiting for me). All in all, if you're looking for a nice Mexican place to go to, don't go here. But if you want some great drunk or hungover or even sober food at anytime of the day, then this place is for you. All the combo's run about $5-7 which includes beans and rice. Drinks are extra. Oh and make sure you come here from the north side. Coming from the south is a little tricky unless you pull a U-turn. (Unless one of the 3 spots on the north are open or your going to the drive thru.)

Honestly, this is what I crave when I think of cheap mexican food. Unfortunately so far out of my beloved Midtown, but so deliciously worth it when drunk.

When it comes to ethnic restaurants, I always consider it a very good sign when I walk in and see lots of folks of that particular ethnicity eating there. That was the case when I walked into Alvarados for the first time. There were several tables of patrons who spoke only Spanish while I was there, and I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that is an indicator that they are good judges of Mexican food. The food was good and not expensive. There was some very tasty hot sauce available in addition to pickled jalapeno peppers. Not being a red meat eater, I had the fish tacos. I thought they were delicious and filling. I'll definitely be going to Alvarados again. The only thing that kept me from going with 5 stars is that they don't serve beer. (I love Mexican beer with my Mexican food).

One of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had (sausage w/jalapeños). I lived Texas for 4+ yes and none compared. It's not pretty but to go orders are worth it.

OK if you think of it for what it is: a burrito joint in an old Taco Bell that gets busy when the bars close. Giant burritos, excellent beans and lots of greasy, melty cheese. Sometimes that's just what you're in the mood for.

Not the best Mexican food. I've had much better for the price.

LOVE THIS PLACE! I've been coming here for years. Another reviewer mentioned my favorite the Carne Asada burrito. Other favorites include the steak ranchero, sausage burrito, carnitas and the machaca burrito. Never cared much for the fish or the chicken tacos though The prices have climbed in recent times, but this place is still a great value. They have a Bellevue location as well and possibly a CB location too. Go there, you won't be disappointed!

Built into an old Taco Bell, this 24 hour Mexican place has won a place in my heart. You cannot beat them for a late night carne asada burrito, super nachos (no beans), or a hand full of wonderful beef tacos...This was a much needed addition to the sleepy town of Omaha! Two tips for you: 1. Ask for green sauce too. It's great. 2. Beware the hot sauce, its strength is inconsistant, sometimes it is perfect, sometimes it will remove chrome from bumpers. This place also has a bit of a mystery to it. As I have traveled around I have found that there are many of these, you can tell if it is associated by the fact that they all share exactly the same menu boards...It is Alajandro's in Carlsbad, CA, Bebo's (or something like that) in Sacramento, etc. However, if you ask the guy at the counter, they all deny any relationship...Conspiracy? Taking over America through our stomach's? You decide!

Fast, authentic, yummy, cheap. OPEN 24/7 and has a drive-thru!!!! Not fancy. Good crispy tacos! Tasty carne asada. Salsa and hot sauces could be better, but okay. No free chips :( Wide choice of frescas: horchata, tamarindo, and jamaica, to name a few. I looooove horchata! Have been twice this weekend.

Best hangover food in Omaha. I don't think anyone can top their breakfast burritos. I wish they had more than one location.

I've never had anything on the menu here i didn't like, and that's saying something b/c i've had at least half of the burritos, tostadas, and tacos they offer. the carne asada is great, as is the green chile. if you get the super nachos, definitely go for 1/2 order with steak. far superior to the ground beef. don't forget they have breakfast 24 hours. if you don't see anything you like on the menu they'll pretty much make burritos to order as well. the steak ranchero is my favorite item, it doesn't disappoint.

I used to be addicted to this place, went at least once a week. After I found it other places like Taco Bell just seemed so bland to me. Every time I tried something new I fell in love. I said used to because they've changed things a bit the last few months, new owners new name. That's the problem you should never screw with something that's fantastic. I can't even eat the burritos any more since it's so full of salt, and it used to be flavorful, like the put some sausage with the beef but now it's rather bland and full of mostly beans and cheese (which you didn't see before in them). The tacos are still pretty good, although they are filling that too with lots of lettuce. And the worst part is they switched to Coke, bleh. It was so convenient going there and having Pepsi too, now I have to go down to the gas station to get a drink. Even the guacamole tastes different than it used to. It's still one of the best Mexican places I know of, and the breakfast burrito is amazing but they are changing things and I don't like it at all. Before it would have gotten five stars all the way, but as much as i love this place I just can't bring myself to give it five stars anymore.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
