One-liner: Do you like the D'Leon's franchise in Lincoln? You'll probably like this then. Best aspect: Cheap, 24-hour mexican food. Worst aspect: Location Abelardo's is off the beaten path a bit, right off 108th and L St. This place is almost a spitting image of D'Leon's, the 24-hour mexican food chain in Lincoln that is popular among the college-aged crowd. There is one big difference though. D'Leon's uses the much preferred (at least to this reviewer) shredded beef in their fried tacos, as opposed to ground beef. This isn't a deal breaker though, as I do like ground beef tacos as well. I had the two-taco plate, which came presented exactly as D'Leon's presents theirs too- 2 crispy fried tacos with cheese and seasoned ground beef, a bed of shredded lettuce, spanish rice and a huge dollop of cheese-covered refried beans. Also included were two cups of a spicy taco sauce. Also nearly identical to the flavor of D'Leon's, for those of you who have had that. The price of the plate was $5.89, which is very reasonable. I'm a big guy, and was satisfied after the meal. Multiple locations around town would give this 5 stars for me, but if you are out in the 'burbs, or wanna take a quick hop off the interstate (L street east exit), it would behoove you.

Soooooo good and sooooooo cheap. #23 is awesome. Huge menu. I don't love Mexican food...... I love Abelardo's.

Dining room was dirty - maybe not cleaned after the lunch rush - but the food was great! We had the carne asada burrito and the adobada burrito. Both were amazing!

Great for what it is...fast, good mexican food. I had the carne asada burrito meal, little did I know that the meal actually came with two huge burritos! It was waaay to much food for one person but it was also very good quality...I would definitely recommend to anyone who is hungry and wants a cheap meal, they do have a drive through, but its about 8 feet off the ground, lol. Go here and give it a shot.

To be specific, this Abelardo's location is in the strip mall at the northwest corner of 108th Street and Mockingbird Drive. As I have patronized this restaurant numerous times since my initial review, the food from here continues to impress. Now, they have added churros (plain or fruit-filled) to their menu. If you don't know what a churro is, it is, essentially, a fried cinnamon/sugar-coated bread stick. Their two beef taco combination plate is great! They also serve some of the more "exotic" Mexican food choices (menudo as well as tripe tacos), which I haven't developed a taste for (and probably never will). Yes, this place is very small inside (eight tables), but their 24-hour drive-thru is always there if you want to take your food home or eat it in the car.

Kinda dirty. but for Mexican food that's what you want. ordered the chicken flatus they are a must get!

This place doesn't look like much but the food is great & reasonably priced. I would have given it 5 stars, but it looks like a few animals may live inside and the cashier had a hard time understanding what we were asking for.

  • Drew D.

Mexican food so authentic, there's regularly a bit of a minor language barrier if you don't speak Spanish. But don't let that discourage you --best fish tacos in town, and the portions are gigante!

  • Amanda P.

good food and fast service :) definitely better than going to taco bell and they are open 24/7!

    (4)
  • Benjamin M.

Was not really impressed... Overpriced for what you get...built for take out and drive through. Restrooms were absolutely terrible, have not ever seen a bathroom that dirty and gross. Had to go to a gas station nearby to use the facilities.

Decent price and best food. I dont know how i miss this restuarant until now. I must say thanks yo yelp. This place is not for dine in. So iam not going to give ratings based on that. Fries taste fresh and burrito is huge. Generally we use to have taco bell food a lot, comparing to that i can say this is lot more better than that.

Really tasty, authentic stuff. Enormous portion, decent salsa bar. The real deal. Meat sweats for 8 bucks.

Decent place to get some Mexican food made by Mexicans, which you are hard pressed to find traveling in some areas of the US. A large menu selection , cheap prices and a salsa bar with a variety of flavors for everyone. Loaded mexican fries were pretty good . Food came out quickly. Only complaint was cashier was not friendly and did not even smile at us.

Good food. Cheap. Drive-thru... What more can you ask for. This is not the BEST Mexican food. But it serves the job... when you just want a cheap and quick meal.... and don't want the regular drive-thru options. And 24 hours! They have a good formula at Abelardo. Only complaint... sometimes they grill the food too long... and don't clean their grill so you get a burnt taste on your food.... SOMETIMES! But don't let that discourage you from at least trying this place.

update.. although the food was good #17 as always, the service just plain sucks. The gentlemen behind the counter was paying more attention to his cell phone then to the people in line waiting to order. put your phone down when people come in the door at least ,, !! As soon as he took the orders there he was again sprawled across the counter messing with his phone ( not making a phone call but apparently playing video games,, texting,, whatever... more people come in and he gets testy because a customer coming in takes him away from his "gasp job... tv loud again,, like always.. really hate going in there, but the food keeps me coming back,, maybe I will try a different location and see if the service is better.

I went for the first time today and my expectation was that I would be going to an authentic taqueria. From the time I entered until I left I was NOT disappointed and the expectations were met. I am a self confessed Mexican food snob and especially love hidden, small and/or taqueria style outlets. As I entered, I noticed the small dining area and traditional menu on the wall full of burritos, tortas, enchiladas, tamales and breakfast (this is a 24 hour restaurant). If there were options for birria or tacos pastor, this would be a 5 star stop. As it was, I chose the Adobada platter. As I waited, I found the salsa bar which had 3 red and 2 green salsa options as well as jalapeños. Unfortunately, chips do not come with the meal but there was plenty of food either way. The pork was served with rice and beans and a HUGE, FRESH, HOMEMADE flour tortilla. There wasn't anything about the meal I didnt enjoy. I will definitely be back for tamales, manudo (weekends only) and probably a breakfast at some point.

The food was good especially for the value. The quantity of food for the proce you pay is ridiculous. Their green chili sauce is also tasty.

I ordered a cassadias cheese and burrito but there's no taste and salad section was bad it's was old from couple days. Not healthy at all.

My go to hole in the wall when I'm out and about near 108th and L. I used to go to this location a lot more when I worked nearby, so I was more than happy to return to my old chomping grounds the other night when I was in the area. All the Abelardo's have the same menu and basically are all equally delicious, at least considering my personal experience. Like the others, this location is open 24 hours and even has a tiny dining room for those times you'd prefer to eat inside. I ordered the California burrito for the first time on my most recent visit. Think carne asada and french fries (plus whatever else they typically throw in for fillings) wrapped up neatly in a tortilla. Add in your favorite salsa or two from the salsa bar and we're in business. I was practically starving by the time I had my first bite, but it was glorious. Abelardo's always manages to fill my belly with deliciousness. I mean I've even happily missed Husker games to smash a couple tacos from here. I think their newest location is just east of 42nd St. along Center? The more the merrier. Bring it on!

REALLY good and authentic Mexican food. And this is coming from someone who's from Southern California. Trust me, this place is legit. Try the carne asada burrito with the green salsa, you won't regret it!

Let me start off by saying I am an Arizona born and raised native and as such nothing is more delicious to me then Mexican food. I recently decided to become a Nebraska citizen but was told by family and friends that I would never be able to find the kind of Mexican food I knew and loved. With that said, I love this place is reminds me so much of some of the good food I loved in AZ. I have been here all of nine days and been to two of the locations for this establishment and was extremely satisfied every time I went. The food is fantastic and in my opinion is extremely authentic to the Mexican food I am used to. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!

  • JackTar D.

Bit of a mixed bag for this one, as I LOVED my Green chili burrito and the carne asada taco but the ground beef taco my daughter ordered was neither very big nor very good. Overall, I would totally go again but stick with the burritos.

Amazing Mexican food. It's a bit of a dive, but they're serving up authentic (mostly) Mexican food at great prices. I've had their bean and cheese burrito and adobada tacos. The burrito was good and large. The tacos were amazing. I prefer mine with onions and cilantro instead of guacamole and pico de gallo. They have a small seating area, but not such much that a large party should plan on having somewhere to sit. Most of their business is carryout. Definitely come and give it a try. It's some of the best Mexican food I have had in the Omaha area.

Excellent Authentic Food and Fast Service. I'll remember this place next time I visit.

The real thing. This is the working man's Mexican spot. It's all made on a griddle just like in the southwest. Abelardos saved Mexican food in Des Moines and Omaha. Very good dependable grub. I love this place!

  • Michael R.

The customer service here is insane. They're always so damn rude and it's because they think I'm Caucasian (I'm a full blown Mexican, I just look white. & I also understand Spanish so I've definitely heard the racist stuff they say about me from behind the counter). I think it's safe to say that the shit hit the fan when an employee overcharged me and I called him out on it and he practically yelled at me and said it was my fault, I guess that made some sort of sense to him. I'd rather eat at Taco Johns than this place. There is no excuse to treat a paying customer the way I've been treated here. Especially when it's completely unprovoked. I guess the ignorance of racism still exists because of people like this, that don't even know how to be racist right.

Found this place on a whim and it did not disappoint. I had the California Burrito and it was glorious - almost as good as mexican food in California. This is our new favorite Mexican restaurant - give it a try.

Don't get about all the good reviews about this place. The Tacos and Burritos are Very very substantially over rated. Not even close to the infamous Tijuana Taqueria across town. The asada tacos and burritos are bland. I have to be smokin crack to like this place. Oh by the way extremely over priced when you factor amount and especially quality of food.

Great inexpensive lunch time place. Home made goodness and a large variety of things to order.

  • Katie H.

I've eaten here 3 times so far (many, many more to come), and the food is an easy 5 stars. The carne asada burrito is extremely tasty. The churros are a nice dessert as well. Food is very inexpensive, fast, and yummy. This place is open 24 hours. I believe they serve breakfast burritos all day, but I have yet to try one. We ate inside here once, though, and the cashier was not very friendly at all, hence only the 4-star rating. My recommendation is to just use their drive-thru. Excellent late-night or post-drinking food as well.

Nice portions. Good flavors. I really enjoy the "out of the way" Mexican food places and this one fits the bill. Not a lot of seating but some great flavors. They even offer some authentic Mexican beverages.

Big portions for a good price! Food was great! Never been before-had a groupon-new fave Mexican place to eat. Will share meal next time, as one meal can feed two people!

Got the egg, cheese n potato burrito with guac n sour cream. It was dooooooope! Salsa wasnt so great though or I wouldve given it 5 stars.

I liked the food here. Large portions of food for the price and that too food was very tasty. I had fajita chicken and nachos and it was very good. I would definitely return!!

I just moved out here and have been looking for a good Mexican joint for awhile. Being from Chicago I know good food and trust me... This is it! The rice and beans were perfect and the beef was so flavorful I could eat it by itself! If you haven't tried it I highly suggest you stop in for a quick taco lunch! It's fast. It's cheap. And it's freakin delicious!!!!

Definite hole-in-the-wall local establishment, but like so many the food was cheap and really good. There is not much seating available.

I've eaten here before and it has been okay, maybe 2 1/2 stars, but today was another story. It was really bad. The first thing that hit me was they didn't have the air conditioner or ceiling fans turned on. There is a heat index of more than 100 degrees today, so it was close to unbearably hot in there. That should have been our first clue. You go up to a window to order from a surly lady with a bad attitude, then go find your table. All the tables were dirty. We ended up sitting next to where they store a filthy high chair because it looked like the cleanest table. We both ordered water, which was warm and had no ice in it, served in cheap plastic cups. They serve their food in those white clam shell to-go containers, whether you are dining in or out, and the only flatware available is flimsy plastic ware which makes it almost impossible to cut your food. My husband ordered chicken nachos, which he said were okay, but hardly had any cheese on them. I ordered a beef, bean and cheese burrito, which hardly had any beans or cheese in it, but a lot of unseasoned ground beef. They do have a good selection of hot sauces, peppers and pico de gallo to choose from. Half way through our meal, the cashier came out from behind the counter and turned on a TV that was hanging over my husband's head, full volume. We could barely carry on a conversation because it was so loud. The sound of someone choking to death for 10 minutes blaring out of the TV was a nice ending to a bad meal. All in all it was miserable dining experience and we won't be back.

First off this place was clean and well maintained, staff was friendly and were very quick about getting the food to us. My fiancé ordered a burrito smothered, I ordered a enchilada plate and our sons had quesadillas. I loved the sauce on my enchiladas, they could have had a little more meat in them but they were very good. Burrito was very tasty and quesadillas were well quesadillas. We were also surprised we didn't get rice and beans with our meal but we'll have to ask next time. Long review short, we will be back here.

Stumbled upon this place by accident, and I'm so glad that we did! I love Mexican food, and I'm always in the lookout for a new favorite; well, I think I've found it here! I had a beef enchilada, and my wife had steak fajitas; the meat is so perfectly seasoned! Excellent salsa bar! I will definitely be back here again!

  • Joshua G.

The place is disgusting, light fixtures hanging down and flies around salsa bar. No customer service at all and my taco shells were hard and stale , when you try to complain it goes on deaf ears because they don't speak English.

I ordered a #7 takeout meal at around $8 dollars after tax and I was very pleased. Beats going to dirty ole' Taco Bell. Their beef burritos were good. I am definitely coming back there. The man at the register was very professional and polite, a little fast and hurried, but that is forgiven. The service was good and the food as well. Though I wish my sides were in a wee bit larger portion. I am all in all satisfied. =)

The $6.99 carinatas (shredded pork, rice, beans, guacamole, giant tortilla) could feed a family of four. The chimichanga, also $6.99 (big o fatty fried burrito full o meat, smothered in more fatty toppings with beans and rice) could feed the neighbor family of four. They have a drive thru, but the way to go is to walk in for the carryout - load up on to-go containers of salsa, pico AND pickled carrots from their salsa bar. It's a super small, divey place where you order at the counter and get your family-size meals on styrofoam plates. If you're eating in, you're limited to booths meant for two (and a table meant for three)...so don't bring your gaggle of 10 friends for dine in. The carnitas were okay (I've had better). The chimichanga was pretty tasty, but I'm not really a good judge because eating two pounds of ground beef wrapped in a fried tortilla really isn't my thing (I know, shocker). The $2.99 cheese quesadilla was delicious, especially when used as a vehicle to shovel in the tasty beans, guacamole and pico. Although I didn't love it, I think I could. SO many menu items. Next time, I'm giving the green chili a go, or maybe the tacos, or maybe both.

  • Nichole M.

I was so excited to try this place, I had heard nothing but good things... But, it was probably the worst green chile I have ever had... And to top that off, halfway through my burrito, I found a long black hair embedded in my burrito... Not mine, considering I'm a red head.... Definetely won't be going back.

We are on a road trip across the country. Getting sick of those other fast food places along the freeway. Abelardos is just off the 80 and yes, though it is a million feet off the ground, there is a drive through. Food was fast, delicious and messy as all get out. Exactly what fast(er) food Mexican should be.

    (4)
  • Sarah G.

Just as good as the other location... maybe better (though I can't speak for the one located in Spokane Valley, WA... random). My favorite are the burritos. Make sure to ask for extra hot sauce!

  • Audrey C.

Got carry out from here last night because my parents just moved and, this place is a stones throw away. I'm spoiled with delicious South O Mexican in my neighborhood, but this place did not disappoint. Carnitas were a little fatty, but great flavor. I loved the homemade tortillas the platter came with. The more Americanized items like the chimichanga were excellent as well. The thing I least liked was how bland the salsas were. I like things hot, and these were mild at best. Most of the platters loaded on the pico de gallo, guac, and sour cream......mmmmmmm! Looking forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
