This was a great lunch experience. Usually in a small town you can't get a seat over the noon hour, but I beat the crowds. This is a large warehouse old slaughter house kind of brick building. It feels very open and uncluttered. Nice party/banquet room in the front and even a pool table room off the main dining area. I was sat immediately and my drink order taken and brought right back. My server was taking another order which gave me plenty if time to make my decision. I got the Hot links sandwhich, meaning a spicy link, & fries. My order couldn't have taken more than 5 mins. This tells me they pre plan for their lunch rush very well. Which began filling the place up shortly after I ordered. My server's name was Kendra. She did a good job checking back with me without being smothering. I hope you have as good of an experience as I did.
Save your money!! BBQ at the DQ would be better. We stopped on a Saturday thinking we would have some authentic Texas BBQ since we are former Texans. What a disappointment. The BBQ Beef was so dry and tasteless that it could have passed as bad jerky. The onion rings were right out of the Sysco bag and greasy. The BBQ Sauce must have been Wal Marts Great Value best buy....might as well have been ketchup. There was an abundance of help but they couldn't get the orders right. The place didn't have any Miller Lite beer. Thought it was interesting to see St. Louis style ribs on the menu....thought that this was a "Taste of Texas"? Compared to Dickey's in Kearney, there is no comparison and Dickey's is a franchise.
If I could I would give this 3.5 stars. This place opened up about a month ago and while it''s new to Holdrege, they also have a location in McCook, NE that has been around for...I'm not sure how long. I decided to try this based on the numerous opinions I got from friends who have eaten here. The two things I always heard was it was 1) Great food but 2) Very expensive. Overall, I would not consider this fantastic bbq but I would say it's good for Holdrege. Most people think it's the best thing around but most people around here settle for average because they don't know what constitutes great bbq. Considering the prices everyone complained about, I thought were reasonable. The portions were HUGE. This was one positive. The prices were no different than say Texas Roadhouse or any generic bbq place. However, being virtually the only non fast food restaurant in Holdrege, people aren't used to paying more than $10 for a meal. This is where I start to criticize.... This is the first bbq joint I've EVER been to that doesn't have sweet tea. I know that's not a big complaint but I do enjoy my sweet tea with bbq. The sauce was okay, however they only have ONE sauce. If you only have one variety then I expect it to blow your mind. It tasted like store bought sauce. I feel you should have at least 3-4 kinds of bbq sauce (Original, Sweet, & Spicy). The meat was just that meat. It have very little flavor and was rather dry. Sadly, I expected much more considering that's what makes a bbq joint. The MEAT and the SAUCE. All in all, would I eat here again? Yes, I probably would, but only if I was hungry for bbq, knowing it was my only option around.
