Playa Azul is another one of those restaurants that aren't unique in what they offer foodwise. It's usually good no matter what you order, but it just seems that you've had this meal before in another small town Mexican food restaurant. The servers are all very nice and the service is fast. They are very kid friendly with their fish tank, chips and salsa right away, and usually the servers will stop and talk with the kids which my 4 year old son just loves If you're in the mood for Mexican, don't expect something completely unique foodwise, but you can expect consistently good service, food, and drinks.

My mom always brings me here when I come to visit her in Kansas. Being from San Francisco, I have pretty high standards when it comes to food. This place is fabulous! I love that they have fresh avocado available for many of their dishes. Avocado is a must have for me! Also, their margaritas are delicious and an excellent deal! It does kinda disturb me how BRIGHT GREEN they are, but what can you expect when it's served out of a slushie machine? This place is not as spicy as I'm used to getting in California, but that's okay because I'm not a big fan of spiciness. I got a chicken tostada with poblano peppers, it was delicious and enormous. The ingredients seem really fresh and tasty! The cherry on top is the great service! I look forward to coming back when I'm in town again.

Ordered the jalisco, has beef chicken and shrimp. Large shrimp, not the little ones too. Great flavor. The salsa is also very fresh and toasty. And it's only 8 dollars!

After reading some reviews I was expecting some exceptional Mexican food in a small town. Now I love Mexican food and frequent lots of places. This was above average food, but not much more. Chips and salsa were typical. I had the Chile Verde which was flavored nicely and a proper portion. Had a fatty piece, which soured me a bit. Spying on other meals :) they looked typical. The price and service was indeed excellent. Don't get me wrong, I would definitely suggest you try.

Great service. Great food, though having spent 5 months in West Texas and years in Southern AZ, I may be a Mexican food snob. Oh and my Nana can make a phenomenal Red Chile con Carne. Overall, great service, good food, atmosphere is nice. Parking lot is smal and ALWAYS packed.

Good honest Mexican food and drinks. Prices are very reasonable and the food is always consistent. The Margaritas on Friday and Saturday nights are very cheap and popular. The restaurant is always packed and for good reason. Service is always swift, efficient and friendly. The free homemade salsa and chips were delicious. Yes, it's a little greasy but the quality is there and for Beatrice this place is a gem. I'll be back!

Mexican food in Beatrice, NE is something that might have you thinking it's going to be sketchy, but Playa Azul is pretty good. They have a full service bar and know how to make a good margarita. The food is your typical Americanized Mexican fare...but again when you can't make it to Lincoln and you are craving Mexican food this will satisfy your craving. Also this salsa snob likes their complimentary salsa and chips. Service can be hit or miss, especially if they get busy. When you look around Beatrice at your alternatives...you'll see why it gets 4 stars.

Great service with a staff that genuinely cares about your experience. Menu is filled with a variety of choices above and beyond the garden variety dishes and combination plates.

I went here for Friday lunch. Very good and quick lunch menu. Not very spicy but overall good flavors. A nice, local alternative.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
