We wanted to try this place out to see if would be good for one of the dinner groups we belong to. It certainly passed the test. It's a little ways out of Omaha, but worth the drive. The ambiance was nothing to write home about, but was not a problem. I think we both expected more of a Texas Roadhouse setting, but it was just sort of plain. We got the corn husk nuggets for an appetizer and were pleasantly surprised. They were better than the father-in-law's corn fritters at Thanksgiving. I got the coconut shrimp and it was good. Even better paired with cocktail sauce. It comes with a sweet sauce and you have to ask for the cocktail sauce. But the best part was the hash browns. I was surprised to see hash browns as one of the options at a steak house, and thought I'd take a chance on them instead of the normal baked potato. They were the best I have ever had. Perfect taste, perfect texture, perfect temperature. Lightly crunchy on the outside, and then just melt in your mouth. My wife got the filet mignon and couldn't have been happier. The best steak she has ever had. Was received exactly as ordered. Well worth the cost. She chose the grilled asparagus for a side and enjoyed those also. One nice part was how quiet it was. We plan to bring a dinner group there, and we should be able to hear each other!

We stay out at Mahoney State Park for a weekend in the winter and decided to head up to the Round the Bend to watch the Huskers play that weekend. We had a group of about eight people and got there right as the place opened up at 11AM. We put some tables together in the bar area and were the only people in the place. We told the bartender that we were going to get rowdy and spend the afternoon and asked if that was OK. I guess it was for awhile. We drank there all afternoon, most of us got massive prime rib dinners and we were merry. I ordered mine with a baked potato that came out perfect, mushrooms and hash-browns with melted cheese. Why not? Eventually we were pretty well gone, and the game was not going well and we were cussing up a storm. The poor young bartender had to tell us many times to keep our language down as the dining room filled up with families. That was a losing battle, but we tried. All in all a good experience and by far not the first one here and certainly not the last.

Food was great, but it came out before we finished our salads. Nice atmosphere. They have a patio but it seems to be the place where smokers congregate. They could do so much more with it if they had more furniture and umbrellas.

We came here for our Christmas dinner with my siblings, 4 of us had never been here. 1st of all the dining room was way too bright, they could tone it down a little. The menu has a large variety but the steaks which they are known for are very expensive. I mean really, $40 for a filet! This is not a fancy restaurant like let's say Flemings! So my husband and I ordered the Fried Shrimp and the Coconut Shrimp, both were very good and priced around $12. You get to pick 2 side dishes so we each had a Garden Salad which were very good and Asparagus. Now, we only had beer for our cocktails and they were only $2.75 each and I saw that the wine was only $4.99 a glass. Great prices on alcohol, probably to make up for the steak prices! I would go back again, but I know it won't be for steak!

I ordered the ribeye and for my sides I chose the grilled asparagus and a baked potato. Ribeye was cooked to medium-rare as I requested. It was tender and had a great flavor and I enjoyed it without the need for steaksauce. The grilled asparagus was good, but they should have cut off the bottom inch or two on each spear as the outer layer was too tough to eat. The baked potato was a standard baked potato. Iced Tea tasted off. I'm guessing it is from a fountain. If not, then they seriously need to switch brands. You really sort of expect excellent fresh brewed iced tea in a rural steakhouse. The place wasn't what I expected inside. It didn't, at least to me, have a steakhouse look and feel. It reminded me of the fellowship/social hall at the church in which I grew up. The decor definitely has a senior citizen vibe to it. Not surprising as this place is very popular with the over-50 crowd. Service was okay. My waitress was attentive, but looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there. She is obviously burnt out on waiting tables and doesn't do a good job of hiding it. The other wait staff all appeared friendly and in a good mood. Everything appeared clean and well-maintained. If you're having trouble finding the place then perhaps this will help: It's two miles south of Interstate 80 on Highway 66 (building is situated on the West side Highway 66). Or, if you prefer, it's two miles south of the Wildlife Safari Park.

I thought I had good steaks until I tried this place. The food is amazing. Service is good but could be better. The reason for only 4-star rating instead of 5. This certainly would not be a place for power meeting or a romantic dinner for 2 place. The place is rustic but genuine. The portion is extremely generous and good. Everyone in our party had steak of some sort and their reaction was as same as that of mine. I would definitely revisit if I were in the area again.

Eh. Maybe the testicle festival is all is crackled up to be (haven't been), but on a normal day this place is nothing to rave about. I agree with the "church hall" feeling. It's a large open room with a mix of plastic round and 12' long tables. After waiting 20 minutes in the loud bar, we were escorted to our white plastic table, and eventually brought drinks. I had to send my wine back. I admitted to the waitress that I wasn't expecting 'good' wine, but what she brought was undrinkable. I'm not a wine snob by anyone's definition, but I like a glass of red with my steak! The salads were ok, the steaks were ok, the potato lacked toppings (but they brought me a small pouch of sour cream when I asked). Nothing was great, and the service and atmosphere added nothing to the experience. Even the local chains do it better. Stick with an Outback or Texas Roadhouse. Better yet, 360, 801, Drover... its Omaha, go ANYWHERE else for some amazing steak.

So yummy! Really great steak and a nice place. Who doesn't like steak, really all I have to say is good steak and that should be enough. hhhhmmmmmm...steak!

Diary of a Testicle Virgin Dear diary, Today I consumed cow testicles... yes, that sack of veal maker was sliced and fried for my enjoyment. But I'm not sure I enjoyed them as much as I would have hoped. After having boiled cow brain sandwich in the streets of Alexandria and fish eyeball black juices squirt in my mouth on the coast of Hiroshima, I thought to myself... why have not put beef balls in my mouth before? By the way diary, I'm so glad I can talk about testes in my mouth with you because if I were to tell this story in person, people would have already interjected with their gross comments. That's why we're bffs. Anyway, I was invited to the annual Testicle Festival held at this place called Round the Bend Steakhouse and Saloon near Ashland, NE. For $10, I got a camouflage beer koozie, a huge pile of fried sliced cow cojones, and a bloated stomach for the rest of the evening. First of all diary, I was not properly dressed for the gala! Had I known what kind of balls ball this was going to be, I would have worn my WWE cut off t-shirt, bandanna, camo shorts and black boots. I even would have gotten a nice red tan just for the occasion! That's all in the past though so let's move on diary. You know me (since I write you) and you know that I LOVE to try new things whether it's good or bad. I'm glad I shoved some cowjigglies in my mouth for the first time, but I was not happy with the taste. First of all, the nuts where sliced so thin that after all the batter and oil, there was hardly anything left. It stands true that "anything fried is good" because all you taste is the fried outside! I did get a chunky piece, but it was.. well... chunky and didn't have flavor... maybe a little bleach flavor? I had to turn to my friend and ask if the white stringy stuff I saw was simply uncooked batter? or.... uncooked batter???? I don't want to think about it. I know what you are thinking diary... I haven't actually eaten at the restaurant so how could I possibly give this place two stars? I'm sure people love this place, but two stars constitutes a place that I personally would not go to again. I looked at the menu and it's a pretty standard steak, hamburger, prime-rib kind of place, but I have a feeling that there would be no magic in the flavor as one of their signature dishes of cow gonads is so bland. Diary, perhaps I'm just not meant to be a country boy. After all, I am Asian and have no time to work on a farm since I'm busy solving math equations and practicing piano. Maybe if I liked country music, line dancing, and fried batter I would have liked this shindig, but unfortunately Round the Bend will not be coming back for round two for me. Thanks for listening to me vent diary

As of this writing, the place is a hit or miss, both in terms of service and quality of food. Doesn't seem to offer a consistent experience. On some visits the steaks and prime rib were phenomenal and the service quick, other times the wait times unbearably long and the place understaffed, the food was served cold and with canned au jus/mushrooms, which I find a serious let-down for any restaurant. A good establishment shouldn't have such stark difference between good and bad experiences. On the plus side, the portion sizes are big and the prices good. After several visits and some bad experiences, I've decided to look elsewhere.

Stopped in to watch the spring game and have some appetizers. Cody was our bartender and he was great. Very attentive and great personality. Would come back again. The apps were great and we have had the prime rib on previous visits and it was awesome.

We were on our way out West, and decided to make a short detour to try this place. We wanted to be adventerous and try the turkey "fries" they were ok nothing to brag about. Also tried their chicken livers, which were also ok. But the best thing we tried was the corn husker nuggets. Staff was friendly, and the place was really busy. Probably won't take the short detour off the interstate next time.

The food was great. This place is classic small town fried food - not for people on a diet or that might have any issues with cholesterol or heart problems! I had the wing basket and what I got were a pile of wings (note: 10 wings = 10 WHOLE wings - drummie, wing, etc) that looked as though they might have come from a pteradactyl. So tasty...
