    When I moved to Fargo, I had heard about Sammy's through Zagat; the dining guide rated this the best pizza in all of North Dakota. It wasn't until recently that I finally made it there to see if this place lives up to this honor from Zagat. It does. I'm from New York, so I'm selective in my pizza taste. This place passes with flying colors. The cheese tastes great, but the sausage chunks that come on their pizzas are even better with a pungent blend of spices (oregano? parsley?). The crust is thin like a New York style pizza, but unlike New York style, the crust is crunchy like a cracker. This doesn't detract from the pizza in any way. It gives the pizza a satisfying flavor that really make Sammy's worth its Zagat designation.

    What makes Sammy's special is its age and its big FU to the 21st century. There are places that are old and off beat and then there are the places that just shrug off time. Sammy's pizza joint has a small kitchen area that makes the pies. Options are whatever there making that day. You might have two choices. What you won't have is an endless assortment of changing options. When you walk in be prepared to step back into an updated 50's building. Narrow and long with plenty of seating. All of which is old and worn but maintains a clean and homey feeling. Sorta like going to Grandmas house back in your early youth. The pizza is made by a few students who might pull off a 1.6 GPA. Making pizza one at a time so it is relatively fresh. The open space makes it nice to settle in for some conversation. If your looking for hip and trendy this is not your spot. If your willing to see Fargo before the Gas boom then this is one of a few places that remains. One slice will run you about four Dollars. Pricy but worth the cost of admission for the experience. Each slice is really two anyway. Thin crust with flavorful sauce and modest amounts of cheese. So grease is not dripping off each slice. Not being from Fargo I found it worth a slice and a drink.

    Our favorite pizza place in an ocean of possibilities! With so many pizza joints to choose from in the F/M area, we so often come back to Sammy's! It's really the best...bar none. Family owned and operated located in the heart of downtown Fargo on Broadway, this place is a great. Small and cozy, yet you feel secluded enough when you're in there that it doesn't seem like people are all on top of you. The employees are friendly and remember you when you walk in (and for us, remember by order 'cause we've been there so much)! They serve a thinner style of pizza with great ingredients. The sausage they make and prepare themselves and the sauce is super tasty! You can tell that they take their time in preparing your pizza, because each piece has the toppings that you ordered -- not many places have the wherewithal to evenly distribute your toppings. The prep station is in the front and open to the diners and those that walk by outside, which I always find to be a nice touch with pizza places, as it adds to the ambiance. So, next time you're in the mood for a great pizza and pitcher of beer (they have 1554 on tap so you've got to get that), go down to Sammy's and be prepared to be amazed. It's like a party in your mouth...and everyone's invited!

    A staple of downtown Fargo. One of the best family style pizza restaurants in the area. Sammy's offers whole pizzas, pizza-by-the slice and side dishes. There is an offering of wine and beer. Sammy's is great for intament get togethers as well as group or family gatherings. It is a place that has a feeling of history to it

    My very first time at Sammy's. Friendliest crew of any restaurant I've experienced in a very long time. I had a 12" Canadian Bacon and Mushroom pie, yes I'm not very imaginative, but I do have a lot of experience with that flavor. The thin, hand-tossed crust was even, crunchy and baked to perfection--not a single burn spot or bubble anywhere. The toppings were sweet and plentiful with a thin coating of mozzarella holding the sauce to the crust without any dried out patches. The pie was scorching hot when it came out of the oven so I did have a little problem with mouth burn but that was a small price to pay for near-pizza nirvana. The reason for a less than perfect score is the untintended floor show with a couple of intoxicated customers (not Sammy's fault) who distracted from the attraction.

    Sammy's Pizza has been on the same corner in Downtown Fargo since the '60's and has always been a family run business. That is probably why Sammy's Pizza is has been so good for so many years! The thin crust specialty pizza, cut into little squares is easy to eat and enjoy! The toppings are always great as well. I am usually one to order a beef, mushroom and onion or pepperoni and sausage. But when it come it Sammy's, my hands down favorite, is their Kosher Pizza. I highly recommend giving it a try!

    This Family owned Pizza place is a Gem in downtown Fargo. Sammy's makes perhaps the World's Best Pizza. Every time I visit Fargo, I make it a point to come here. I invite my local friends and relatives to Dinner here, but I often go alone. (My friends and relatives are more used to Multi-National chain Restaurants that are found in any city). Their Sausage Pizza is the best in my opinion. A must go to place if you are visiting Fargo. An experience I have not found anywhere else.

    Woohoo! As good as it gets, indeed. This place has been around for years (I grew up in Fargo and we went here when I was a kid) and rather than being a wannabe retro joint, Sammy's is this way because it always has been. Very little has changed in the 20+ years since I've been gone. I live in New York City now and tasted pizza from here to Italy. None will beat Sammy's squares. I would recommend that newbies order a pizza with toppings, to avoid the "cheese and tomato tart" mentioned a few posts below -- my suggestion is the house special. You can't go wrong.

    Pizza lacked flavor overall. Crust was light and flaky with great texture but bland. The sauce tasted as though it was a watered down tomato paste or purée. I ordered the Hawaiian delight which comes with Canadian bacon and pineapple. There was very little Canadian bacon present and when it was found it also lacked flavor. For the first time in my life I put salt on a pizza and it still was uneventful. I was told they make their own sausage and pepperoni however I didn't try it maybe I missed out. The service was poor but they seemed understaffed so I won't hold it against them. Good luck if you choose to go here.I should have trusted the one yelp reviewer that gave it two stars.

    Fargo's Americana filled Broadway is a fine place for this charm-filled pizza joint with its nostalgic curtained booths and, because everybody at the office raved about it, I had high expectations of a deliciously oily thin crust pizza. Basic and a little worn out, Sammy's manages to be warm and comfortable and I settled down in anticipation of the delights to come. Shame it had been built up so much. With just one guy on duty who kept mentioning he couldn't wait for his help to turn up the service was pretty poor even though I was only one of five diners. When the food did come, far from being a pizza it was more of a cheese and tomato tart. I hated the twirled, tasteless crust and the fact the pie had been carved up into one inch squares making it feel like a kid's meal. The base was biscuity and the sauce was far too herby. Toppings were thin on the ground and the cheese was short on flavor. When a restaurant only does one thing, I expect it to do it well, really well. Sorry Sammy's. Fail!

    Blue collar pizza joint that is a must stop for me when in Fargo. The pizza is great and weathered booths are a great reminder of mid-western no-nonsense restaurants. Perfect place for a pitcher of beer and some Za. It's a staple of Fargo in it's history.

    What a downtown treasure! This pizzeria is my favorite in Fargo, no contest. I think I've found a new haunt! This shop has been open since the 1950s, and there is a reason for it. The interior is what you'd expect from a 50 year old pizzeria, but it's quiet, calm, and civilized... something you won't find at your chain pizza places in town. The pizzas are made at the front of the restaurant, right up at the front window. When you walk in you can see the cook tossing the dough. The guy who was working was extremely pleasant and friendly when our orders were taken. Then he walked right over to the front and tossed up the dough, cooked our pizza, and served it fresh from the oven. Trust me, it was incredible. I'm going back again very, very soon!
