Perfectly runny yolks on my eggs benedict, which was great. Very affordable for a hotel restauarant. Great service on a slow Monday morning. Totally recommend.

Come for the live Jazz, leave for the food. Service was some of the slowest I've ever had and displayed the competency of a fast food place. When I say slow, I mean 3 different people visited our table to 'say hello' and tell us that our 'server was coming' over the 15-20 minutes we waited to place a drink order. We waited another 15 minutes for a glass of wine. I would expect this sort of wait during a rush, but there were about 12 other patrons. The food was elevated, but not in least bit modern, complete with a lemon wedge in cheesecloth, and heavy cream sauces on everything. The food contrasts the contemporary place settings with beautiful plates, and ergonomic flatware. (Left-handed folks beware of the forks- they are only for right handed people and my dining parter was uncomfortably stabbed by his all the way through dinner!) However the live jazz was wonderful, but not in the bar, so you must sit at a table in the restaurant.

Food was amazing, we both had steaks that were perfectly cooked. The staff was top notch! Drinks were strong but well balanced. A little pricey but worth the extra money.

My husband and I came for Valentine's Day. The restaurant was busy as was the bar but the staff did a fantastic job keeping everyone happy, filling glasses and bringing out food as fast as possible. For the holiday they brought in piano and violin music, very romantic! The food was fantastic. We had the steak and lobster dinner, gorgeous plating, perfectly cooked and delicious from beginning to end.

Made reservations for Valentine's Day. Service was alright but the musicians stopped playing at 9, that's when our reservations were, the steak was dry and the lobster overcooked. Oh, and the shrimp bisque didn't have any shrimp. Don't think we need to come again.

We had a group dinner last night at Basie's and I can honestly say that it may have been the worst service that I have ever seen in a restaurant. It's hard to know where to begin about how many things the two waitresses (we had a group of almost 20 people) did wrong. Slow, confused, wrong drinks & food, burned steaks, you name it. It got to the point where people were laughing out loud when something else showed up wrong. From the first salad to the last entrée being put on the table took one hour and 15 minutes. Several people had finished their entrees before the person next to them got theirs. The food was probably average (except for the most wilted, brown iceberg lettuce that I have ever been served) but the service was atrocious.

Poor overpriced food. Never would go there again. The steaks were tough and overdone. Poor service as well. Good atmosphere and a good piano.

Went for late night desserts and buffet breakfast the following morning. The desserts were excellent, especially the strawberries and cream with chocolate. Breakfast was good. The oatmeal was thick and not mushy. The French toast could have used some toppings besides just syrup and butter. Bacon was good. They had some cooked crispy, some not as well-done. But it was a little salty. The service from the evening waitress, Dena, was exceptional. Personable and fun to talk to...

Horrible customer service. Food was ok, the meatloaf was pretty tasty. Unfortunately I'm more about customer service, treat me good and I'll over look almost anything! Not the case here, we were sat and left to fend for ourselves, tables around us were waited on, plates cleared off. When I went up to pay the host who sat us asked if we were waiting to be seated, "uh you just sat us 20 minutes ago...?" Oh! I told her we had horrible customer service and weren't even asked how the food was, she apologized and continued to ring me up for full price! I was already in a hurry so there was no time to complain on paying full price for sh*tty service. I will not be patronizing this restaurant anymore, there are so many BETTER choices in Fargo/Moorhead.

The first thing I would like to say about this place is that I think it has the potential to be amazing, but they must be short staffed and need more knowledgeable cooks. Our server, Mindy, was amazing for the amount of work that she was doing (at age 71!) She must have had half the room to take care of plus a large table. There was just the two of us, and a 15 top was apparently seated after us. (This is what costed us a lot of waiting time - it took over two hours to finish and leave..you should always get the smaller tables first since the larger parties are expecting a long wait!! ) But she was a wonderful server and I commend her for that! Now for the food, the appetizers of artichoke dip and crab & whiskey bisque were very good. The bisque could have been warmer, but was good non the less. We were seated a good 30+ minutes until we received a break basket, to our surprise - we didn't know we were suppose to have one. The beer was cold and clean tasting and the wine very good. The Entrees, another story. I had the Medium Rare top 12 oz sirloin with hash browns and my sister had the pork chop with double bone. The food arrived much later due to the hectic 15 top. I cut open my steak right away to check, and to my absolute horror the steak was RAW in the middle....this really struck a sour note with me as this place is supposed to be KNOWN for their steak, I could cook this portion of meat myself, so why would I pay $20+ for a steak I could make on my own to perfect temp? The server did notice this, and asked my sister to cut open her pork chop to check if it was done, and it was perfect. She took my steak back to the kitchen to get a little more cooked. She brought it back, it was now charred on the outside, which is fine. The middle largest portion was still purple, but I just left it anyway. I wasn't going to send it to the kitchen AGAIN. It was tasty, but it would have been more tender if cooked properly and left to sit to absorb the juices back into it. The pork chop was tender, cooked perfectly and seasoned great. The hasbrowns were not crispy, needed more cook time! But they tasted very well and were seasoned perfectly. Overall, a ok experience. Disappointed by the steak tho! Great server, bad timing! Probably won't be back for dinner anytime soon! Oh...and one more thing that was incredibly tacky was the sides do NOT come with dinner. They are sold as $7 each...including baked potatoe, creamed spinach, ect. This is really tacky, especialy the cheapest cut of meat you can order is $25 by itself. For a steak. C'mon! But anyway, the jazz band that was there was FABULOUS! Kudos to them!

My husband and I had really good customer service. The first night we ate there the waitress was very knowledable and so friendly. The food came so fast we hardly had time to eat our bread basket. It was wonderful. We ate there again on a Sunday for brunch. There was so much food. I loved their fruit lay-out. My husband had to eat enough for both of us because I can't eat that much for how it was per plate.

Our experience: Rude. We ended up getting up and leaving because we were completely ignored. The menu looked good. If we would have gotten to try any of it.

Was taken there for my birthday dinner. Have been there in the past over several years. Wasn't expecting much of anything better than OK to good. AMAZING!!! The steaks (we had the New York & Filet Mignon) were the caliber of Ruth's Chris (at 1/2 the price) and Murray's Steak House in Minneapolis (at 1/4 the price)!!! They have a new, gazillion degree broiler that they cook their steaks on (like Ruth's & Murray's). GREAT!!!!!! Flavor all the way through the steak! Thick! You slice it like roast.. TENDER! FLAVORFUL! Am I Missing anything? Don't change that formula! New favorite steak place (Oh, and I walked by a great looking dish on the way out..., the walleye!) I will qualify that this was one trip, and we have not been there for a few years so, repeat performance will stand to be proven. Based on tonight..., we have a big city steak house right here in river city...

Food is good. Great atmosphere. But my steak came out extremely rare the first time when I asked for medium well. They took it back and cooked it more but it was still very rare.

I have wanted to come here since College. On Thursday nights they have live Jazz music. After a long stressful drive on a stormy afternoon, Basie's baked potato Soup was just what i needed. I have never had a creamier potato soup. It was perfection. I am looking to be in the area again on Jazz night; for good food and good music.
