Been here a few times when I'm in town for work. Always a good stop and always good food! I think it's by far one of the better places in town

This was definitely not one of our top choices but I guess being here on a Sat night after 7PM, only so much is open. In fact, I have to really think about whether it was a Sat or Sun because it sure felt like the latter. The great about this place is that the waitress was willing to put on the game for us to watch. She was actually really good. The bad part is that the food just lacked. The chicken was dry. The sweet mashed potatoes- well, I'm not exactly sure what happened there. It just wasn't great over all.

I'd love to be able to write a review about the food, but sadly I wasn't able to. We arrived at about 1230 on a Friday and expected it to be busy with the lunch rush. What we didn't expect, however, was to have the hostess look directly at us and then ignore us for over ten minutes. Never got asked how many in the party, never told how long the wait would be. Sorry guys, with service like that we won't be going back to try the food.

Great lunch - went here for a quick business lunch with a group of 5. Service was good and fast. Food was good. The portions were very large. The peanuts on the table are a good touch. I had the brisket and chicken, I couldnt even finish the portion that I got

Great food awesome atmosphere! I had the ribeye which didn't have a whole lot of seasoning, they left it Pretty plain but it was still tasty. I also got the BBQ cheese fries with it which were amazing. The service was okay after we finny got a waitress to come to our table, we sat there for about 15 mins before the waitress came over so that's where the last star is missing.

Like some of the other reviews, the customer service was marginal at best. It seemed they were way under staffed. The food came out tasty but cold. We had brisket. The jambalaya was dry. It took us so long to get it we didn't send it back. Very pricey for the lack of quality. We won't be back.

The western burger and the BBQ chicken are really good. They also have a lot of beer on tap. It is a really small restaurant, so there will probably be a wait for a table.

Called in for a to-go order. Arrived and there was a big line for the dine-in patrons. Food was ready when I arrived and staff was friendly. I ordered the 1/3 rack of baby back and 1/2 lb. of pulled pork w BBQ fries. They were absolutely delicious! I really recommend this.

I wish there was a way you could take away a restaurants name and change it to something that really represents it, BBQ is not what this place is good at cooking! Maybe the french fries but not BBQ. Ordered the 1/3 rack of ribs and the 1/2 lb of brisket meal. Let me start by saying the food was very bland and I felt like I was fighting the ribs to get them off the bones. From every other restaurant, even from a microwave meal I've eaten before the ribs always fall off the bones but this one was a fight, felt like I needed to get a knife and start cutting. The brisket wasn't much better. Most of the meat was dry and tasteless, like something that was cooked last week and then frozen and then reheated in the microwave. I was very disappointed at the food. Really expected more from one of the few BBQ restaurants in the city. The only thing decent about this restaurant is the service and the interior actually seems nice and comforting.

Bland brisket, watered down sauce, a sad meal for another disappointing day in North Dakota. The waitress is the only reason I gave it two stars. Whoever owns this place has ZERO passion for BBQ. Really really sad. Please stop calling this BBQ.

Born in KC and grew up in Oklahoma. I've had Oklahoma Joes, Arthur Bryant's, Gates etc. The food here doesn't compare but I challenge you to find a better BBQ joint between here and Cheyenne. Food - Good Beer Selection - Better than good Atmosphere - Okay FREE PEANUTS!!

Went to this restaurant and got a take out order of a half of chicken and a brisket sandwich. The brisket sandwich was the worst brisket I ever had. No moisture. Dry as a desert. If I spend 15 bucks for a sandwich, make it worth eating. The chicken was pretty good. The skin was somewhat crispy. The dark meat was moist and the breast was ok too. Not the best, but for 8 bucks was less disappointing than the brisket. Won't be going back to try the ribs. Service was typical for north dakota , slow

The food is quick and *usually* quite tasty; the service is hit or miss. Most of the wait staff is excellent, but we've had a few that really shouldn't be working in the service industry, and we've gotten take out only to get home and realize they've forgotten a part of our meal. However, as my husband reminded me, very few people who live in Dickinson are here to work in the service industry, so that is just something we'll have to learn to deal with. JD's is good for lunch or dinner, in groups or alone. Good drinks, good food.

Monster prime rib sandwich was the special. It's not often I need a to- go box, but this was the case. Good service, good food. Definitely will return!

So we were starving on our cross country trip and stopped here. It was more or less as expected. I got the brisket, my husband got some sort of grilled cheese hamburger monstrosity. Food was decent, nothing surprising. The brisket was tender and not too fatty, but the BBQ sauce choice was "Mild" or "Hot" and the "Hot" tasted exactly like the "Mild" but with more pepper. Meh. Decent beer choices, which I appreciate. This earned JD's another star. The serving sizes are 22 oz and 32 oz, which I didn't realize until I got my "short" 22 oz. Service was kind of poor, the server looked like she was having a bad day. Overall on this place- eh. If you want a place where you can throw your peanut shells on the floor, this is your restaurant.

I am in Dickinson for work & decided to give JD's a try. I have read previous reviews & agree with a lot of them for both the good & the bad reasons. So I went in for lunch on a freezing day so they were not very busy, the ratio of patron to staff twas about 3:1. Atmosphere is what you'd expect from a BBQ joint, beer selection is good but as some of my previous reviewers said the staff was just meh. I was seated at the bar (the only one at the bar) & waited 5 minutes prior to even being acknowledged & was finally helped by a waitress that wasn't, apparently, assigned to the bar but came to my rescue anyway. After a few more minutes the "bartender" came over & said she was sorry & forgot that she was assigned to the bar. Food came out pretty quick & was very tender & juicy (almost to a fault, I do like a little resistance when I eat BBQ), meat was pretty lean but I felt it was lacking a good smoky flavor. Sauces were good but I agree with previous post that both were the same with a little more spice in one. All in all it was an average experience & definitely didn't blow my hair back. I think management needs to give the staff a breath of fresh air aka swift kick in the ass! We all know a great staff can turn an average experience into an exceptional one with a little effort.

I go here for the brisket and ribs. Sauces taste great and the meat is usually good. On one occasion it was a bit dry though. I gave three stars because of the hamburgers. The meat is dry and greasy at the same time. Definitely better places in town to get a good burger.

I will not even give this place a rate... I have been here a few times and I wasn't impressed very much with their food. Every time I ordered carry out I had to go back because things were left out. I alway had to wait a long time for my food when ordering. The very last time I ate at JD's I ordered the mushroom swiss burger. It took them almost 45min to complete my order. I was starving and when I returned to work to eat my burger I didn't hesitate to take a big bite out of it. I started chewing and I got that feeling in my mouth, the feeling of a hair. I immediately spit it out! I was disgusted and found the hair in my chewed up food. I pulled the bun off it and looked further and found TWO more hairs!!!! They looked like eye lash hairs... DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!

We hit JD's at around 3:00 on a Sunday afternoon. It was surprisingly busy for mid-afternoon, it looked like some oil industry folks were in the house. Let's break down the place: SERVICE: Above average. Our food arrived very quickly. The server was very attentive. We did hear some banter and horseplay among the (relatively young) employees - guessing the head honcho wasn't around. FOOD: --- Pork Platter: Portion size large, very good quality pork. No complaints here. --- Brisket Platter: So so. Lots of gristle and fat, which comes with the territory, I guess. Tasted pretty good, though. --- Macoroni Salad: No bueno. Bulk mac salad from the Sysco Truck or Sam's Club jammed into a styrofoam cup. Bad sides are common at rib places, I'm not complaining...just avoid the Mac salad. --- Beans: Outstanding. These could have been right off the Sysco Truck too for all I know, if so, they did something to them. Very tasty. Even if you don't like beans (like me), have the beans as a side. SAUCE: Just OK. BEER: Great beer selection, I had a Rogue Dead Guy(!) Nice. PRICING: Prices were very fair. If JD's were in a city, I'd give it three stars. If JD's were in Texas, I'd give it two stars. But for a rib joint in the Upper Midwest, I've gotta go with four stars. Maybe it should be five. Check it out if you're in the Queen City.

Went to JD's on motel recommendation and were pleasantly surprised. I'm not ready to put their brisket up with good Austin BBQ, but it was tender and cooked just right. Go with the spicy sauce, because it really is pretty mild with just a little kick. My wife had the chicken platter, and I think it could have been cooked just a little more but was satisfactory. Then there's the beer: a wide selection of good brews. It's a guy's place, but there were some women enjoying the food, too, and the place was full when we arrived.

Chili dog was fantastic, and the jumbolia was impressive. Back that with good service and a huge selection of on-tap beer and it's a great place. The only small complaint is the tri-tip sandwich wasn't fully trimmed and was difficult to bite through so I ended up eating it with a knife and fork...it was tasty though.

Typical beer place. Food was rough. All the meat was over cooked and dry. Bbq sauce was delicious. Tons of beers on draft. A good selection too. I have tried most of them at some point or another. Free peanuts that you can throw the shells on the floor. Will not be back.

I realize that I am not satisfied with the majority of restaurants in Dickinson because of quality consistency and customer service. However, I have been there a handful of times, most of the time they are just fine. I don't like that they charge for a 2nd drink refill. And they charge for side of sauce/ranch. (just increase the cost of a beverage and find a way to absorb the cost of the sauces and extras into the meal prices so the customers don't feel like they are being "nickel & dimed" when they see the receipt) I don't eat pork myself, so I haven't tried many of the BBQ dishes, however they gyro sandwiches are pretty good, and the cod sandwiches are pretty good too. The burgers look amazing, and the french fries are pretty good. I love the fried pickles too. The potato salad is only ok, and small portioned. I make a better potato salad so I won't order it from them. One time I asked to have a salad with my gyro instead of the fries and they told me that they can't substitute... but since then, they have done it for others. We have friends that have had horrible experiences recently and they refuse to go back. My husband refuses to go back too. So I haven't had a reason to go back, because I am not going to take the kids by myself! :-) The servers are usually college-age and maybe even high school-age, and they all seem inexperienced... I am a professional and have the skills to work well in most any customer service situation so I am likely to be harder on someone that lacks professionalism. I do understand that people have to start somewhere, but you need to keep cool and professional while in training. The previous reviewer made some good points, but I think he was there on a good day. My visits were usually during the week. I would go back if they reevaluated their business standards.
