Food is ALWAYS good, but the service is hit or miss. Been three times and got GREAT service, ok service, and one guy was down right rude. If you go get the Chicken and Waffles.....or a biscuit....or really anything!

I've been here three times, and I cannot get over how good the food is each time. I loved the chicken biscuit and the market salad entree. The market salad is not what I would get if I could only go once, but it is fresh and so delicious. When I bring friends and family from out of town, I say they have to get some kind of chicken (I suggest the chicken and biscuit) and the pimento mac and cheese. I've also had the mashed potatoes, and those are great but not in a way unique to Beasley's. Service has also been absolutely fantastic every time. Could not have better things to say about Beasley's!

OMGOMGOMOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG The fried chicken here is to die for. This would be a great last meal. The menu is pretty simple, there are non chicken items on the menu but why would you torture yourself like that. The sides are awesome. Braised collar greens and with the recommendation from our bartender of drizzling it with hot sauce-SO GOOD. Baked beans were awesome too. Seriously, the chicken here is awesome. And this time, its ok to eat with your fingers. I saw many patrons dining with a fork and knife, really? Who taught you how to eat fried chicken like that? I want my fingers to get greasy and hell yeh, I want to lick them afterwards. Though to be honest, the chicken here isn't greasy one bit, just tastes soo sweet you want to make sure every piece is off the bone. We sat at the bar and it being a Saturday, it was so busy. Your wait does include bar seating, so don't even think about snatching that empty stool. The hostess tries their best to move the crowds but if you do notice an empty spot, ask her if you can have it. They might give it to you. Libations here are excellent. I had the gold rush and Georgia fizz, both were made extremely well. prices here are so cheap. Aside from the drink costs, the food is pretty reasonable when you can get an excellent meal for about $10 more or less. I can't wait to come here again. nom nom nom

While on vacation in the south, we've been on a quest for fried chicken, and it ended last night at Beasley's. We each had a quarter fried chicken and macaroni and cheese. Both were stellar. Husband said he would have salted the chicken just a tad more, but I wholeheartedly disagree. I also had the cole slaw, which was super yummy with a roasted tomato in it, and husband had the biscuits. The biscuits were good, but not great, which is a shame. I'm not sure why people would complain about things like the seating or the chalkboard menu...too much time on their hands, maybe? I thought the ambiance was fitting for a fried chicken restaurant. As for the service....well, we're New Yorkers, and I found the staff here to be typical hipsters, which I'm used to. I'm docking one star for the price, which I do think is just a tad high for what they offer. For those prices, at least give me organic and locally sourced ingredients.

Took the team for Sunday brunch and was pleasantly impressed. Everything from the open concept, bench style seating and the menu written on chalk board was a nice touch. The food was excellent! The cocktails were perfect! The ambiance was fun and energetic and the entire place was very clean ;)

This place is amazing. I've been twice. The first time, we just stumbled across it one Saturday. The brunch menu is delicious. I had the chicken biscuit and my friend had the chicken and waffles. Super yummy. Went back for dinner recently. Also yummy, but not as awesome as brunch. The chicken pot pie crust is super flacks and amazing, but the filling is a little thin. The meat loaf is delicious. Everyone should try this place.

A few friends and I came to Beasley's on a Wednesday night based on a local's recommendation. We originally want to go to The Pit, but that had a 1.5hr wait time for 4 people at 8pm (no joke - we confirmed that it was actually 1.5hours, with no wiggle room) so we went to Beasley's instead. Firstly, there was no line at Beasley's at 8:15pm on a weekday, which was a great plus. We ordered: - Fried chicken waffles: amazing. There's no right way to eat this, but I find that adding a bit of maple syrup to get the sweet yet savory combination was the best. - Cream Collard Greens: my favorite side. I'm not a mac and cheese person, so I really like this, however my friends liked the... - Mac and cheese with pimento cheese: delicious, and not as heavy as you would expect it to be. This was the biggest hit in our group. - Mashed potato and gravy: another hit with our group - Beets: really delicious, one of my favorites although the non-veggie lovers just skipped this altogether to fit in their mac and cheese. Beasleys also had great cocktails. I ordered a bee's knees which was not on the menu and the bartender was able to fix it out with no issues (it tasted good and was very strong!). I also ordered a Dark and Stormy which was quite good as well, just the right blend of spicy and sweet. Overall, their drinks here are quite strong. I'm still a litlte bummed that I didn't make it to The Pit, but Beasley's held its own. Hopefully I'll be able to come back again at some point in the future!

Went on a Saturday night with friends. Sat at the communal table, which was neat since you could see everyone's orders. We had the veg plate and the meatloaf. The meatloaf and gravy was very savory, def worth a try. The meat was tender and fed had a great pork flavor. The veg plate is the option to order 3 sides, we picked the beets, pinto beans and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was custard like, really great. The pinto was my least favorite but still worth a try. The beets were fresh and light, finally beets without goat cheese! The vibe is neat, food was great and the drinks are served in mason jars. The music wasn't too loud and that night a nice mix of vampire weekend. My boyfriend had a sweet potato beer and it was pretty great. Definitely will keep this place in our back pocket.

The food is better than good, but less than great. As a fan of huge windows, the decorating alone is worth a star in my book. Beasley's is this cool little spot in the middle of downtown. We've visited here twice, and like it both times. The service is always friendly, and I love getting a seat by one of the huge windows and watching the town go by. The food has been pretty good. Loved the mac and cheese, and the potato salad. We've had the chicken and waffle's twice now. Both times, the chicken has been crispy, and juicy, but surprisingly, not very flavorful. Not sure what's up with that. The first time, all they had was honey to go over the waffle. The second time, maple syrup was available. The honey was fine, but it kind of ruins the comfort food experience of chicken and waffles. The chicken pot pie was actually really good. Thick crust, hot, tasty filling. Still not to die for, pretty great. Beasley's has an excellent location, great decor, good service, and almost great food. It's worth a stop, and it's definitely someplace I'll return to for lunch, dinner or a late night snack if I'm in the area.

GET THE BEETS! Fried chicken biscuit was tasty but the beets (!!) stole the show.

Let me just apologize right off the bat. The most amazing thing I tried here last night for my first Beasley's experience, is not a regular menu item! But perhaps with some encouragement it could become a regular item. Leave it to us to be different and try this restaurant for the first time on a holiday (New Years Day), where they were only offering a "special" menu. Originally we were invited to an 8-person family event at Chuck's, but Chuck's was closed for the holiday, which is how we ended up at Beasley's. Options for a table of 8 were limited to either end of the giant communal table. We were given printed menus (blackboard was full of items, but only the special menu was being offered). Armed with Yelp knowledge of their regular menu, we had to go to Plan B based on the temporary menu which was your choice of one meat and 3 sides for $13.50 (I think that was the price). This was quite a deal! (and not just because we were being treated :) ) Meat choices were fried chicken, pork shoulder or fried catfish. (there might have been one other choice, can't remember, but everyone in our group got one of these). Choice of sides included hoppin john, sweet potato casserole, yukon golds with white gravy, snap beans, creamed brussel sprouts, collards. Out of the eight of us, there was only one order that got confused (Husband's), but they finally got it mostly right, and our Waiter could not have been more apologetic. Wasn't a big deal, and I ended up with extra collards to take home as a result. (Husband doesn't do greens like collards) The fried catfish had a perfectly crunchy crust. It came with a chunky "tomato remoulade". Didn't really seem like a remoulade to me, but it was good. Kinda like sour cream with tomatoes in it. Was plopped right on the fish, which was okay with me, but some folks might prefer it on the side. I tasted the pork and it was smokey, lean and delicious. Didn't get to try their famous fried chicken, but not a speck was left on the plates of those that got it. All the sides were good. Not sure that the gravy added anything to the yukon golds, as it was white on white, and I couldn't discern any real flavor in the gravy, but the potatoes were nice and buttery. I love me some collards, and these didn't disappoint. Those that got the sweet potatoes (I tried a nibble) found them to pleasantly be less cloyingly sweet as these casseroles can sometimes be. Nicely done. But the BEST thing? The creamed brussel sprouts...oh my! I have no idea how they did these, but I WANT TO KNOW. They weren't creamy in a heavy cream sense. The sprouts themselves had somehow been cooked to a perfect consistency along with onions. Usually I'm good at guessing how something is made, but I'm totally baffled here, and very intrigued. Portions were very generous and included a triangle of cornbread (gave mine to Husband, as he didn't get one...he said it was pretty ordinary). Most in our group were able to polish theirs off, but I took about half of mine home. Our Waiter boxed it up for me by putting each item in its' own separate take-out box. A nice touch, but certainly not necessary. I'm happy to report that it all made for one tasty breakfast this morning! (in my world anything can be breakfast). I can't say that it's comfortable to dine here. It's loud, and the round hard stools with no backs are not exactly comfy, but the service was warm and welcoming, and the food is quality homey-Southern.

Good god, this place is delicious. We had a British friend in town visiting, so we were trying to get as southern as possible. Thus, chicken and waffles seemed like the perfect choice. Between the three of us, we got two orders of chicken and waffles (you can choose white or dark meat), and the three sides for $9 deal. For sides, we got the pimento mac and cheese custard (a baked mac and cheese that was creamy and cheesy but "solid," for lack of a better word - i.e. not gooey), collard greens, and biscuits. The collards were great - well seasoned and just the right about of creaminess. The mac and cheese was fabulous, and the pimento was a nice touch. The biscuits were actually just average, which I wouldn't expect from a place like this. The fried chicken had a nice layer of spiced crispiness that wasn't too greasy, and the meat was very moist (we got white meat, so dryness can be a problem with that now and then). The waffles had a nice crispy outside and came with honey (which was mostly on the chicken) and some syrup on the side (I actually couldn't really tell if it was honey-y or maple - very sweet, and a little went a long way). The cocktail menu was creative and pretty extensive. I always like a place with a dark and stormy on their menu. Thus, aside from the somewhat dry biscuits (and the place is a little loud), the only other negative I can think of was some of the dining ware - I find the mason jars and metal plates a little hokey, since, though this is "soul food," the place is still a little more upscale. Biscuits and mason jars aside, our meal was fantastic, our server was very friendly and knowledgeable, and we all enjoyed ourselves very much.

** 2.5 stars. It was ok. But nothing special and DEFINITELY not the best fried chicken I've ever tasted. Based on the reviews, I was expecting to take one bite and leave the table to check the kitchen to see if my grandmother was back there cooking. Didnt happen. Dont get me wrong, it's good fried chicken. But it lacked seasoning---we actually had to ask for salt. My guess is that the people who have described this as the best fried chicken they have ever had have never had really good fried chicken. If my grandmother were still living, I'd invite you to Sunday dinner.

Stopped in to Beasley's as it was the next spot on my brunch round, and OMG I'm glad I did. Quickly found a seat at the bar and was taken aback that there were no menus (I left my glasses at home), but luckily I could barely make out the brunch menu from across the room. I ordered the Silver Plate (eggs, bacon & potatoes) and a Mimosa. Before I had a chance to get comfy my food was ready! I think my drink order only beat it by a solid minute, which says a lot because they had a wait time for tables. My serving of eggs was quite generous (the runner who brought me my food asked if I had ordered extra) and every thing tasted good (though a little on the greasy side, but this is a chicken joint). I plan on returning to sample the chicken (practically everyone at the bar had ordered it and it looked yummy). I would of given this place 5 stars if the food was a tad less greasy and if the guys working the bar were a bit chattier. The bartenders were attentive, and checked on me several times, but bars, to me, are expected to be a bit more social than tables.

Not sure I get the fascination with going out for a meal just for the chance at ordering the most unhealthy options one could muster, but oh well. If I see mac n cheese and fried chicken on a non-country kitchen menu one more time... Also the "mason" jar glasses were so like, gag me with a spoon. Everybody knows if we were really sitting around in our overalls playing jugs and drinking moonshine, the glass jars wouldn't be all matchy matchy! It so reeks of just what you would expect of a white girl in the burbs starting a Harlem-style chicken joint. Poser-ish. I've been eating chef's food since she used to make me a quite good brunch nearly weekly as the chef at Enoteca Vin. But I've got to call a spade a spade. I found the chicken with a biscuit to be marginal. The collards were waaaay over-seasoned and so salty they were almost inedible. The chicken and waffle were as described. If you want to sit down for a quick bite downtown, clog your arteries, and pay triple Bojangle's prices, you have just found your new favorite spot.

4 of 4 stars (excellent casual dining). (see explanation of ratings below) One of several very popular dining spots founded by Chef Ashley Christensen. Also, one of that growing number of restaurants who just won't take reservations (no matter how much you try to bribe them). I have waited more than an hour for a table here, but on this night (a Monday at 6:30) there was no wait. Allow 40-50 minutes (no dessert). Cost: about $20-$25 per person (one drink, no dessert, gratuity not included). Be sure to stop by Fox Liquor Bar (under Beasley's) for some great cocktails. About my ratings: Only fine dining establishments can garner five stars. Until yelp realizes that a fast food joint cannot possibly be ranked equally with a $100 per person place, I need to draw the line somewhere. If we were only talking about the quality and presentation of the food, it would be a different story. But, as we know, yelp's rankings take into account the entire dining experience. Therefore, I divide restaurants into three categories (and I wish yelp would do the same): 1) fast food and "fast-casual" (no table service ) 2) casual and "polished casual" dining (table service) 3) fine dining (linen napkins, no plastic cups, no TV's in dining room, typically more expensive than casual dining) Fine dining can earn a max of five stars. Casual dining can earn a max of four stars. Fast food can earn a max of three stars.

My man and I got our chicken 'n waffle cherry popped last night, and it couldn't have been better. Sweet, salty, savory... You just can't go wrong with that trifecta of deliciousness. The pimento mac n cheese custard had great flavor with the right amount of kick. Sweet potato fries were good, but how can you really mess those up? Service was a bit slow, but they were busy (which I understand is a common occurrence). Overall, this place is a solid choice.

I was recently visiting NC and was only in Raleigh for two days, the day of our arrival and the day of our departure. We went to Beasley's twice. I had the Chicken Biscuit with Collards and Ashe County Pimento Mac N Cheese Custard for sides the first time in. The second time, a quarter fried chicken, which was too much for one entree for me. The chicken was really tender and juicy, full of flavor. The sides were great as well. What's more, I really appreciate their dedication to humanely raised meat and locally sourced ingredients. What really sealed the deal for us, though, were the cocktails. We tried five of them altogether, and all five were impressively good. Considering fried chicken, rather than mixology, is their primary focus, I was really floored by how good the cocktails were. They also offer some well regarded craft beers. The service was great both times--friendly without being obnoxious. The seating can be a little odd. If you end up at the long table in the center of the small restaurant, you'll sit very close to other diners. So we had to unintentionally eavesdrop on an annoying conversation. Also, the seats are all stools with no backs. But, ultimately, the food and drinks far made up for these very small irritations. If you're in the area, definitely check this place out. Well worth a visit, especially if you enjoy well crafted cocktails. And, well, of course, fried chicken.

I kept hearing about the chicken & waffles, so I had to try it. The sweet tea wasn't good IMO, too much tea & not enough sweet. Traded it for a lemonade which was way better. The C&W was pretty good. The chicken was moist, crispy, & seasoned well. The honey drizzle only made it that much better! The waffle was light & fluffy & was tasty with a honey drizzle of its own. They give you a little cup of maple syrup to go with it & it's more than enough for your waffle.

This cute little restaurant has a hipster-esque atmosphere. Jars for cups, stools to sit on and the thin metal plates opposed to ceramic. The walls are chalkboards where they wrote the menu. At first I thought it was cute, but we were seated closer to the front of the restaurant and was not able to read the menu as well. I went with three of my friends, and we all got chicken and waffles and shared the veg plate which lets you choose 3 different sides. We chose the potato salad, mashed potatoes and creamed collard greens. The chicken and waffles were delicious. Especially with the honey syrup which really brought the chicken and waffles together with the sweet and salty. The potato salad and mashed potatoes weren't anything special but I really enjoyed the creamed collard greens! Best that I had in NC. This is the place to go to if you have friends or family coming to visit you in Raleigh.

What a great little restaurant with a neat ambiance. The menu is on chalkboards and is unique. My friend and I shared the pot pie and the cheddar pimento mac and cheese. YUM! And the shrimp appetizer was great too. Will go back.

Wow, Raleigh bringing the heat on this one. I ordered the Chicken Biscuit sandwich, which came with a Pickled Tomato on top! Nice touch. Wifey ordered 3 leg special and then we split the Veggie Plate (Pimento Mac, Creamed Collard Greens and Mashed Potatoes.) The chicken was fantastic, some of the best I have ever had. The Pimento Mac was like a bake more than Mac and Cheese, but irregardless fantastic. Wifey really enjoyed her chicken and the Mashed Potatoes were her big winner. Service was also great, went at an off peak time, but still good. Keep up the good work, will be back when I have a hankerin for some Fried Chicken!

Rating is based on the chicken & waffles that I had. Honestly a combination that struck me as something I would never want to try (together), but I was pleasantly surprised! Go here for the real deal and an introduction to southern cuisine!

This is one of four (or so?) restaurants owned and operated by the same chef. Her restaurants are all great and this one stands out in the pack. Great menu, rotating options for seasonal vegetables are always great. This place doesn't take reservations and fills up pretty quickly so come early on weekends or be willing to wait at the bar.

I've been here twice, once for dinner and once for brunch. The dinner experience was stellar - I'm a vegetarian but even so there is plenty to eat here, and my plate of mac & cheese, collards, and cornbread was reasonably priced and excellent all around. On my brunch visit, I ordered the Eggs Beasley and it was good but not great. As another reviewer observed, the cornbread was dry and sort of tasteless, but the collards, eggs, and gravy made a killer combo. Still, I would not order again due to the cornbread. The restaurant was absolutely packed at noon on a Saturday; if I go for brunch again it will not be at a peak time. We were seated in the front of the restaurant and had little kids running around our table the entire time while their parents waited to be seated. Overall I've had a great experience with service here and there are still a few things on the menu I'd like to try. I would definitely take out of town visitors here,

What a great little place, great food (not a huge fan of chicken but the chicken biscuit was awesome) and I had a side of creamed collared greens. Great NC beer selection and looks like they had some nice cocktails. Great laid-back location with good music, food, and drinks - cant really ask for more.

Awesome! Happened upon this place one night late and so glad I did. My wife and I had the chicken and waffles with a side of the pamento Mac and cheese. Best fried chicken I've had. Mac and cheese had such great flavor! We were stuffed and wanted more. We wanted to try dessert but were too full. I hope I make it back to Raleigh to eat here again. P.S. Our food came out very fast!!!
