The service we received on the bar side was far above and beyond the norm in Whitefish. On par with what should be expected in four star and up city restaurants. Whitefish service in general is fairy low given it is a prime tourist location and career wait staff. Perhaps 'you' tourist need to help raise the standards by demanding more and paying less. In any event the Tupelo Grille made for a wonderful night out with another couple. Our drinks remained full, the waiter was attentive, professional, with minimal amounts of banter. Knowing when to bow out gracefully. We ordered a variety of appetizers. The most memorable was the pistachio hummus. For those interested in lighter cuisine over drinks I would highly recommend this starter. For a heavier option, consider the sweet potato fries. We did not try these but our friends appeared to like them. They did not last long. We would like to frequent this establishment more often but choose to 'keep it special' since our local options in Whitefish are limited overall.

For a Cajun/Southern food theme, this Tupelo Grille is awesome. The cost for small plates might be a bit for some, but makes up for it in flavor. I was a bit apprehensive about how my family would be received being that I had read previously on Yelp reviews that this place isn't good for kids, but I was pleasantly surprised that upon walking in, the hostess asked if we wanted the coloring sheet kids' menus with crayons. So, I guess if your kids aren't off the chain and bothering other customers, they're more than welcome as guests! They even bought out a bread & butter basket for them right away to snack on. We were on a foodie quest for some good eats with out a limited budget, so we ordered pretty much half of the menu. Everything came in small plates and was delicious. We ordered quite a few specialty drinks from the bar as well. My husband didn't appreciate the bar being as slow to serve so he ended up ordering a few drinks at a time to make up for having to wait about 20 minutes for a drink. Also, he felt that our waitress was a bit snooty and demanding that we wait on her whenever we requested something or ordered something else. It's not like we stopped her mid service of another customer or flagged her down whenever she walked by. We did wait for her to come to our table. It just seemed that she was a bit annoyed by the constant orders. But in our defense, when you are dropping $300 on dinner, you should do your best to keep up to earn your 25% tip... Overall, dinner was great, kudos to the chef. The live music was a fun added bonus! We'd definitely eat here again. Things that would make it better: - Service with a smile and servers that strive for excellence!

Another fine restaurant in Whitefish that rates all the stars! Again highly recommended by locals and perfect for our sad goodbye dinner. Bigfork and Whitefish offer excellent dining that one cannot find on the western slope of Colorado. The coconut shrimp was so sweet and delicate. My Husband's New York Strip was melt in the mouth excellent, he was quite pleased. So obvious the sous chef has a flare that is notorious. Very comfortable decor that is unique. Even being greeted at door is warm and professional. This place is a gem.

We had the Shrimp and Grits, and the free range chicken. It was excellent. The staff was nice and helpful. They have great art collection.

My favorite restaurant by far in Whitefish and surrounds. The food and service are excellent. I always come here when I'm working in Kalispell. Worth the short drive. I have never been disappointed. The food is delicious and well prepared. The bread pudding is to die for. The atmosphere is relaxing and inviting. I highly recommend Tupelo Grille. I've been haunting this place whenever I can. A visit here is something I look forward to every time I'm in the area.

I have loved this place for years and have been coming back (from Washington) for over a decade now to have their food. Granted I haven't been here for a couple years I am a bit disappointed in this experience. The gumbo used to be to die for. It had duck, served in a massive bowl with lots of rice. This time around it was a smaller side dish, no duck, and still quite crunchy trinity. We had delish stuffed jalapeños poppers tho! The service was crazy slow, our waitress was very nice (granted she forgot 3 things) but since the expansion it seemed like a lot of tables for one waitress, I felt for her. I was definitely disappointed this time around but it's been so good in the past I'm holding out hope this was a one time instance!

Great Staff, Friendly service, good food(too much pork on everything). Overpriced.

I stopped by while checking out the town. The food is good. Not outstanding. So if you are used to eating at very nice restaurants this one won't surprise you with anything. Mainly ala carte. Bit pricey for what it is and nice atmosphere and good food make for a decent night. 50.00 a person for what I ate seemed high. If this was in a larger city I probably would not go back. That said from what I understood it is one of the best in town. Still looking for a serious contender to blow me away with unique local and organic ingredients.

It's a fancy restaurant. I like most of it except the portion. Tiny portion. Especially pork belly and scallop for $14. Basically it's one small piece pork belly and one small piece scallop. Not worth it.

Food was fairly tasty. I don't have much exposure to Cajun food to compare. Not really too thrilled with the menu prices.

This was the best restaurant we've been to in months. The restaurant was attractive and clean and the services was excellent. It was fairly empty as we chose to eat a bit early. We had three appetizers that were all excellent; Coconut Shrimp (huge with a spicy & sweet sauce), Ahi Tuna, barely seared and a Waffle and Duck concoction. All were great. Main courses were Shrimp and Grits, Pistachio crusted scallops, Chicken and Dumplings and Cajun Penne. All were amazing and original. Prices were reasonable ($200 for four of us including beer and wine). We would definitely recommend the place and would go there again. Now to digest it all.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! We go to this restaurant every time we go to Whitefish. Everything has always been superb. Great menu,wine/beer list and great service! The Bread Pudding and Toffee Pudding are must haves! I don't like Bread Pudding and I could eat the entire plate by myself here.

I had dinner twice at Tupelo Grille the week before last. On my first trip I tried the Cajun Penne Pasta (with chicken and Andouille sausage). On my second trip I had the Low Country Shrimp & Grits, which is a cake of cheddar grits with jumbo shrimp and tasso cream sauce on top. I had a glass of Merlot to accompany dinner. Both times I had the pistachio hummus appetizer and a bowl of chicken and Andouille gumbo. Service was excellent, even though it was quite busy both nights. Of the two meals, I slightly preferred the Cajun Penne Pasta. My niece used to work there when she was in high school. An off menu special that she suggested was the Low Country Shrimp & Grits, but substituting beef tips for the shrimp. She said it was outstanding, and something the kitchen might do if you requested, if they weren't too busy. I'm going to try to order that on my next visit. Tupelo prides themselves on their extensive wine selection.

This was our second visit to Tupelo Grille, and we were NOT disappointed. The Roasted Cauliflower with Curry sauce (starter) was a delightful surprise - and very filling. I tried the Cajun Chicken pasta dish (YUM!) and my husband had the Steak Cecile (he loved it!) The service was wonderful, friendly and knowledgeable. DO ENJOY the Tupelo Grille. We will be back!

Enjoyed dinner here when visiting Whitefish. Nice ambiance, good service. I had a cup of gumbo to start, which was disappointing. The soups flavors had not melded, and ratio of rice was off. I had the chicken and dumplings which was quite good, and my husband enjoyed the Zydeco platter. For Cajun fair in northern MT it was pretty good, but nothing anything to go nuts about.

Not a bad approximation of Cajun cuisine, especially given that you're 2,380 miles from New Orleans (yeah, I looked it up). Bonus points for the quirky, Big Easy-centric decor. I got the Zydeco combo platter, a regional sampling (as in New Orleans regional, not Montana regional). The crawfish cake and etouffe were great, the jambalaya solid, although could have used a bit more heat). There were also a few non-cajun, almost asian-inspired options on the menu, which were helpful for my vegetarian girlfriend, but seemed like an odd mix (I tried her roasted cauliflower appetizer, which was in a curry sauce - quite good, but again, would seem to provide an odd mix with most entrees on the menu.) The service was a bit spotty. I felt very much as if there was a bit of an upsell/pushing of appetizers/drinks/desserts, and when it was clear we weren't going to be doing heavy drinking and running up a big tab, the service and attention dropped considerably. Also seemed a bit pricey for what it was. Still, we both enjoyed our dinner - set out thinking I'd be trying something like an elk burger, and wound up having a nice crawfish etoufee in Montana, which was a not unpleasant surprise.

It is very hard for me to go out to dinner as I am super critical because I own a restaurant. The food and service was SUPERIOR! From the minute we walked in to the moment we left we felt welcomed. For once (in a very long time) it felt good to spend money on tasty, beautifully seasoned and presented food and the service to match! Thank you so much- you have regained my faith in the fact that there are indeed a few great restaurants left that care!!!!

Imaginative, delicious fare fit for locals and visitors alike. A top 3 Flathead Valley restaurant destination (Showthyme, Tupelo, Hops). I love everything I have eaten here. The Seared Beef Tenderloin Tips are a succulent appetizer choice. Crawfish and Shrimp Cakes, Candied Bacon Wrapped Shrimp and Marinated Grilled Vegetable Salad are good too. We've had the Cajun Style Penne several times and the Famous Low Country Shrimp and Grits are deliciously elegant. Service is hit or miss, which puts it a notch below Showthyme. Tupelo is quintessential gourmet in a relaxed atmosphere. Enjoy!

Absolutely delicious!!! Everything we tried was so good. We were with some friends so we all ordered something different and shared. Best coconut shrimp we have ever had. Wished we lived there so we could try everything on the menu. If we ever return to whitefish that will be our first stop.

There are plenty of okay burger joints and cafes in Whitefish, but for a true restaurant experience to rival your fine dining anywhere, head to Tupelo's. The service was exceptional, the food was extraordinary, and the atmosphere just right. The whole menu was bursting with flavor and delivered true Cajun flavors with beautiful presentation. Highly recommended when you're looking for something other than a burger dive!

Simply put: freakin' delicious! Gumbo, chicken and dumplings and ricotta cheesecake with huckleberries were all extraordinary. I really enjoyed that the classic and familiar menu items all were prepared with a thoughtful, culinary twist. Service was excellent. Eat here !

We were told this is the place to go in Whitefish, so we called ahead to get reservations earlier in the day. Left a message and never heard back, so we showed up around 4:30 hoping to get in. The place was completely empty! We sat at the bar and ordered drinks while we waited for the kitchen to open and be seated. Our drinks were good, I had a glass of Riesling while the husband had a local beer. Once we were seated, we decided on pasta and lamb. They brought us hot bread while waiting for our meals. The food was good! We saved room for their famous bread pudding which didn't disappoint either! Our server was great and our water glasses always full. I'd recommend this place for a date or dessert night.

We had an interesting experience here. The food was pretty good; however, the service was probably the worst I have ever had in my life. The server completely forgot about one of our meals, pretended she didn't, screwed up the order, then was obnoxious and condescending when we asked her about it. Additionally, she overcharged us on our bill and when I asked her about it she rolled her eyes and laughed at it. Eventually, with time, we got the bill right. We complained afterwards to the manager and got a nice "okay, sorry" but clearly no interest in what was actually happening (she didn't even ask for our servers name when we complained). Good food but this place won't last long with prices and service like we experienced.

So am here in town for a week ,we are eating the top 7 restaurants in town , There surroundings are great the serving staff where on top of there game and the food was really well executed, desserts being a sweet toothed snob I am very Leary , but I had the goat ricotta cheese cake it was the master class of how to do it right. And in a busy town it made me feel Relaxed in a foodie bliss. One of the Top 3 places to dine and enjoy a meal in Whitefish.

I went to Tupelo Grille for dinner upon my arrival in Whitefish. Based upon a prior visit, I expected a good dinner. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. I had a halibut special that was OK. Nothing special about it. What was a surprise was the bill. After having one glass of wine, an appetizer and the halibut special, the bill came to $60 (pre-tip). That's for one person. I thought the price was VERY high for the quality of the food. I think I'll skip Tupelo on my next visit.

Tapas! Tapas! Cocktails! Music! Watched a 5piece jazz band. None of them over 20 years old. Lots of fun! Great service. Steak tips were great. Catfish - delicious. I ordered the hit and run cocktail. Having been on a bourbon kick, this was well done with ginger beer. Since we are just visiting, we probably won't be back for a while but I highly recommend Tupelos!

Traveled to MT solo this past weekend and went to the Tupelo Grille because of the reviews I read. I wasn't disappointed. Walked in late Sat and was greeted by friendly people - both staff and customers. I sat at the bar and ordered the elk sliders & shaved fennel salad. Both were delicious! The atmosphere was fun and laid back, and the live music was really good. I'd recommend the Tupelo to anyone.

Over priced for very slow and average tasting food. It took over an hour to recieve our meal after ordering. Staff was pleasant and surroundings were nice but overall very disappointing.

Our local friends recommended this restaurant. It was a Friday night and it was packed. I'm glad we made reservations. Even with reservations, we needed to wait about 15 minutes for our table. That was fine, though, because it gave us time to grab a drink at the bar and listen to the live music. The bartender was very busy but took time to talk with and take care of each customer. She was very informative and helpful when we asked about local whiskeys. Once at the table, our group shared Grilled Green onion sausages (very good, loved their mustard) and the Fried Green Tomatoes with crawfish rockefeller sauce (the tomatoes were okay but the sauce was VERY good, we were eating it my the spoonful). For the main course, I got the pork and it was melt-in-your-mouth perfect. My hubby got the lamb and it was done perfectly and the cherry sauce was fantastic. Our friend got the shaved Fennel, Mizuna, Pine Nut salad and added the beef tips. She said it was really good. I can't remember what everyone else had, I was enjoying my meal too much. For dessert, our table shared the peach and blueberry cobbler and it was really good. But I'm a sucker for bread pudding so we got an order of that, too, and I was not disappointed. Yum! Great bar. Great music. Great service. Great food. Note: they had a lot of gluten-free options here. Most of it was noted on the menu but the servers were really good about answering questions on ingredients.

As an out of town guest I was blown away with how pleasant everyone in town was. If I could talk my wife into it, I would move here in a heartbeat! The food here was spectacular! I got the beef tips on salad and it was amazing, next time I look forward to trying their fish dish. On another note, I left my beloved Red Sox hat there and was not able to contact them till I was back home. After talking with one of their managers they are shipping my hat to me! The definition of above and beyond. Thanks Tupelo!

I read all the positive ratings about this place and had to try it for myself! It was everything I expected and more. Service was great including the hostesses (very polite and helpful) and bartenders. I had french onion soup, penne pasta w sausage, and my husband had the shrimp, gumbo, catfish combo. They were excellent dishes! My husband said it was the best catfish he's had in years. Although we were too full for dessert I saw a few tables eating a red velvet cake that looked delicous! I definitely recommend this place!

Easily the best restaurant in Whitefish. First off, the owner's and staff are all great people. Many have been there a long time and their knowledge of their food and wine list shows it. The food is Cajun inspired, but they are always changing it up. I eat dinner there once a month and always find something new. They cook fish better than anyone in Whitefish. I can't vouch for their meat dishes because I don't eat land based mammals. This past year they added on a bar on the north side, which is wonderful. They have live music there a few nights a week. Its the hippest spot in Whitefish, and when you mix up the bar and restaurant, there is no reason to go anywhere else for a great night on the town. Whitefish residents who have grown up hang at Tupelo. (I haven't fully, I still spend half my time at the Northern :-) Oh, and don't miss out on the bread putting. This has been the best dessert in Whitefish for more than 15 years.

I think the shrimp and grits and the chicken and dumplings rivals New Orleans. The wine list was extensive and the service and ambiance was up to big city standards. The mac n' cheese was incredible but very rich. Everything we had there was top notch and super filling. Be prepared to order less than we did or have some to take home. A great romantic spot for your fancy night out in Whitefish.

This restaurant came highly recommended by several people....OMG - great food, great service, great jazzy atmosphere of music and decor. Definitely cuisine with a new orleans flair....most likely because the chef is from Tupelo, LA.... Shrimp and grits a dish to try....yes, I was skeptical...not a grits fan, but this was very good. If you want a nice dining out restaurant, this is definitely a great place to go....not cheap, not too expensive....very much worth it...

It's an eclectic mix of South moves to the Great White North...or there'bouts. Not an elk or bison to be browned, ground, or served. Instead: Jazz. Artwork. Duck, lamb, and fish entrées. And most surprising of all, Cajun fare. GOOD Cajun fare. I had the crispy duck, but started with a cup of gumbo. Good brown roux. Right flavor and spices. Too thin, but if the chef makes it stand-your-spoon thicker it will attract folk from the bayou. The duck was quite good. Bread pudding, another sweet Southerner, was also a standout (and I'm not a fan of bread pudding.) Nice selection of some very good wines. Definitely worth many more visits!
