I like El Diablo much better than the other taco shops in town...although I do think some of the ingredients are bland and could use more spice and flavor, El Diablo serves mahi mahi (which I love) and season their rice with cilantro. They also have sauteed veggies for vegetarians and for adding to burritos and tacos. Definitely choose El Diablo over the other local taco shops in town.

Really good. Only burrito place I've been that offers gorgonzola, and it was awesome with the carne asada

It's good, not great. Agree with some other Yelpers it can be a tad bland (recommend adding jalapeños). Big portions, for sure. I lived in the southwest for almost 7 years so I wish they were more ambitious with protein offerings: lengua, cabeza, or an al pastor would be welcome...

I should preface this review by saying that I previously lived in Montana for a few years and I don't know that I've ever had good food at any restaurant there, so take my review with a grain of salt. I got the vegetarian burrito and it is probably the most tasteless burrito I've ever had, besides one time when I had Mexican food in Ho Chi Minh City. A lot of the other reviews state this but I thought this was perhaps a good sign because I like simple ingredients but this burrito had no flavor to it whatsoever.

Really good food for Mexican in Missoula. Portions are great and burritos were put together well. Walked into a long line that moved slowly. There was a lot of back and forth between patrons and staff when ordering. This could be resolved by having customer make a complete order. What I saw was the order taker asking, would you like this, what about this, what about that... etc. A salsa bar would have been nice.

Wow!! This place is absolutely awesome. I am so excited to have found this spot. The food is amazing and the portion sizes are gigantic. The best part is the pulled pork they put in the pork burrito. I don't mean carnitas...I mean real pulled pork!! I have never seen anyone put this in a burrito and it is straight genius. They also have a delightful cilantro lime sauce that adds a phenomenal top note to the flavor combination. I have discovered that the whole wheat tortilla tends to fall apart...I think in the future I will have either the regular tortilla or the naked burrito. The only other bit of constructive criticism I have is they might want to wash out the outside garbage can...it is getting a little ripe. However, that fact will not stop me from eating there...I will only compel me to sit inside!!

You know, El Diablo is really good. But, as much as I want to, I just can't like it as much as Taco Del Sol. I want to like it more because they have higher quality meat, it seems, and the portions are great, and they put out a lot of good coupons. But, the burritos always end up good but kind of bland. This last time I tried to spice up my fish burrito with the hottest salsa and jalapenos. Well, it was just spicy and bland. I think the leg up that Taco Del Sol has is their medium sauce. It lays down a blanket of flavor and makes it a lot more moist. If El Diablo would offer a medium sauce, I think they'd take the cake. Until then, it's pretty good. I'll be back, but it's not my favorite.

Great experience. The service was quick and friendly, the fish was well prepared and there are options for vegetarians and gluten-free folk with very reasonable prices and a clean, open-kitchen. Thanks!

One of the better burritos that I have had. Much better than Taco Del Sol. Great service and hours. Definitely recommend if you are in a hurry. Try the pork burrito. Fantastic!

Delicious burritos! I get a naked burrito (without the tortilla) and it comes with a good portion of food! Prices are worth it!

El Diablo is my second favorite burrito place in town after La Parilla. My favorite is the Carne Asada filling in either the Taco or Burrito (which uses same fillings, just different shells). It is close to my house and also the University so you don't have to go all the way downtown for a good burrito. The price is pretty good and it's 75 cents cheaper if you order a smaller 10" tortilla.

Hello from Missoula, Yum. El Diablo is a great value and such big portions. We usually have the fish taco, which is made with grilled fish as opposed to fish sticks. Really good with their great lime cilantro white sauce. Just writing this is getting the juices churning and I am already hungry for one of their specials. They are located close to Great Harvest, so buy your dinner bread first. Once you are full of tacos, you can't remember why you needed bread. Another advantage they have is their outside seating with a beautiful view of Mount Sentinel. Thanks for sharing, Judy H. Wright, author and keynote speaker

We were in the mood for tacos, so my friends suggested we check out El Diablo. It was a casual place, much like a Chipotle. The tacos were good, not amazing. Though I did enjoy having a few cheese, salsa and pepper options. I have some of the pork and chicken tacos which were good. My friend had the burrito and agreed it was good, but not amazing. Though living in LA there are amazing Mexican places every few miles, so my expectations are a bit high.

Best burrito in Missoula! I highly recommend the the carne, and absolutely add the cilantro lime sauce and spring for guac, the food is fresh and it shows! I would eat here every day if I could.

This is the best burrito place in town, by far! I go here at least 2-3 times a week. The medium salsa is amazing, and the cilantro lime sauce is a must! They also provide different options (cabbage or lettuce, cheddar or gorgonzola) which is unique for a burrito place. Friendly staff and great food!

This has to be the best burrito places in town! Very filling, tasty, and affordable. The people that work there are always so nice too! Huge plus!

If you're looking for a baby football burrito, this is the spot! The mahi fish burrito is awesome, I eat one almost every week. The staff is always super friendly and service is fast. Go for the cabbage, it has more crunch than iceburg. They have outside seating too. Prices are reasonable as well.

It was exactly what I wanted and hit the spot. The hot is not too hot it is a nice spice to the tacos or burritos.

4 Stars because its about the only 'meat & veggies' place I have found in the area. Granted I wind up with mostly mahi & cabbage but it is fresh and clean. Look out for the HOT salsa, they mean it!

El Diablo reminds me of a local chipotle ish restaurant. They have delicious burritos and big portions for the price! The sauces and spices are amazing and make for one tasty burrito! Def. recommend this place :)

After living in the PNW for most of my life (and thus used to pretty decent Mexican food) I have been yearning for good Mexican food (mostly tacos.) In Chicago, the guy I was living with warned me against ordering anything Mexican--"Remember, you're in the midwest now," he said. Duly noted. And then, while living in London, I told a drunk guy I would peruse the menu for him and tell him what he could order. Standing on the sidewalk at 2 in the morning, scanning the said menu of a Mexican place in Battersea, I was forced to say to him, "No Dice. Just get chips and salsa." So it's been a while since I've had good Mexican food. I've been eating at Taco del Sol during my summer tenure in Missoula, and while I like the fish taco, their salsa is horrible. SO BAD. It almost ruins the whole meal. So El Diablo is a welcome relief. Reasonable. High quality meat (I had the carne asada and the chicken.) The fish taco was not memorable, but not bad either. As someone else pointed out, this is no Mexican taco truck (ah, Seattle-- your Mexican taco trucks!), but it is very good for Montana. I will go back again for sure.

I needed my Mexican food fix while in Missoula for a fishing trip and I wasn't disappointed with this place. Their burritos are huge and I left there satisfied. The salsa isn't bad, but I prefer mine not as chunky. The help was friendly and the place was clean. They could use margaritas or beer on the menu, but that's an issue of a liquor license.

They pulled ahead of the infamous taco del sol imo. Better quality and more options.

I am a big fan of El Diablo, my favorite burrito place in Missoula. I eat there about every other week. The restaurant is clean, service is fast and courteous, and the food is great. Well, at least the veggie burrito is. I have not tried any of the other fare. I would give this place five stars, but I can't bring myself to five-star a restaurant with five things on the menu (putting the burrito ingredients into taco shells hardly constitutes a separate menu item). I am vegan, as well, so I have but one item to choose. I do like like that one item, though: veggie on wheat tortilla, double guac, half black beans, half pinto, rice, lettuce, jalepenos, hot and mild salsa, no cheese, and no cilantro sauce! Had it for lunch, today.

Perhaps one of the grosser moments I've ever endured in a restaurant happened here during a recent visit to the 'Zoo. I needed something to soak up all the post-bachelorette-party badness going on in the tum-zone so I stopped at El Diablo. To make it easy, I got my vegan burrito extravaganza without a shell. When my creation came to the end of the production line, burrito chica asks, "Would you like our cilantro sauce on this?" As I'm asking what is in it, she sprays it all over the top of my meal, and much to my dismay, it's quite creamy and definitely un-vegan. Chica can see that I'm not down, and realizes she has just committed an act of dair-orrism. "Oh, you probably don't want that on there, right? Since you're vegan?" Uh, no. She then, with ungloved and I-know-not-when-last-wash-was- hands, grabs the handfuls of creamy cabbage from the top of my to-go box and hand-picks the culprit out to the best of her abilities. Grossest. Thing. Ever. She got intimate with my salad before I ever got a bite, and if I weren't so busy dry-gagging at the prospect of eating whatever under-nail crust she inadvertently deposited during the extraction, I would have just left the box at the register. I paid, held in my barf, and got out quick. I was hoping it would be salvage-able, but there was still a fair amount of cream up in my dish, plus I couldn't erase the treacherous retrieval from my mind. Not all the handwashing procedures in the world made this OK. I feel skeeved just talking about it...

Another favorite stop when returning for a visit to Missoula. Ample portions for sure. Though I have not had the same gross experience as previously stated, I do have to say you do have to be paying attention when answering the questions they fire at you. Because they have a limited menu, the staff can get into a fast rhythm when making your burrito and their hands will be moving faster than their inquisitions. The chicken and pulled pork are succulent, and the salsa is very yummy. Take care about asking for extra of anything, as it will throw off the flavour balance that is inherent in the standard serving sizes of all the goodness. Cheap, delicious, and almost always gaunted to have left overs.

Yum!!! This is definitely my favorite spot for burritos! Yummy!!!

Here's my gripe....zero flavor in the beans, meat and rice. Prices are fine, not exactly a bargain. Staff fine, but just no flavor. And they use the processed guac. How hard is it to make fresh??

I've never had a bad experience here. The service is very consistent, but the food itself is amazing. In terms of burrito places in Missoula, it has its own unique taste stemming from the blends of ingredients El Diablo uses. Thinking about it makes me hungry. I'm going to El Diablo.

Our first trip to El Diablo was a good one. My carne asada burrito with all the fixins was very tasty The wife had the three taco plate. This not the stuff of a Mexican taco truck, but very good for Montana. Missoula does not have a real Mexican restauran, but this food is fresh, tasty, has a kick if you want it, and worth the price. We will return.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
