Wish we had gone to The Raven .... Service sucked. The kids wanted the brown bag lunch to eat in, but the waitress said it was "too difficult" for the cooks to make it on a plate rather than in a bag. She said that we could only order it to go. Really. So we ordered it to go and it took 25 minutes to receive it. It was not busy when we arrived (or when we left).

Service very slow. Took more than 25 minutes to get a hamburger. Even though the staff was very apologetic, 25 minutes plus to get lunch is ridiculous.

I appreciate that they are open past 2pm when everything else in Gardnier is closed. You enter through a smoky entrance that divides the restaurant and the "casino." The service was the best that we had in Gardnier (which I would take with a grain of salt), but was friendly and prompt. You can order breakfast all day, which was great for our tablemate who ordered an omelet. The bison burgers were a little small, but what makes this 4 stars in addition to the service was their blueberry pie a la mode! The homemade pie and local ice cream was a big hit that everyone at our table enjoyed. It was the best desert of our entire trip. Yum! They have you pay at the little gift shop and they ladies in there are also friendly and chatty. This was a surprising gem despite its dated interior and exterior.

Gardiner, MT is a rather small mountain town that hugs the northern border of Yellowstone National Park. With no more than eight or nine hundred permanent residences the restaurant options can be somewhat limited. One of the establishments that seems to endure from years past is the Town Cafe (which also has a Motel, a Lounge and a gift shop, as you can see by their name). We have eaten breakfasts there on several trips and occasional dinners when other venues were not open or were too crowded. Breakfasts are the meals that we enjoyed most at this location so that is what I am highlighting in this review. They have many straight forward breakfasts that feature eggs, french toast, and giant platter sized pancakes along with the usual bacon, sausage and toast (expect to pay 50 cents more for rye or sour dough if you prefer those to white or wheat). Portions are generous and prices are comparable to other places in town that serve breakfast. When we visited Gardiner this summer there were only a couple of other places we found that seemed to be serving breakfast. The wait staff was efficient and mostly friendly. Our waitresses on both our breakfast visits were able to keep coffee cups filled and orders straight even though the room was packed with customers and they were expected to cover a whole lot of tables. The Town Cafe is not fancy but the food and service are pretty good and they have lots of customers so they must be doing something right.

Breakfast is phenomenal. I love the French toast delight (two eggs, 4 pcs French toast and 2 pcs bacon). The bacon is perfect- thick and flavorful. My husband got biscuits and gravy delight which was good too. We also went to dinner and got huge portions of excellent country/diner food. Excellent service.

The food was old fashion and great! Plus the service was fast!

Remodeled in 2012 with a larger seating area. Great place, especially for breakfast. We are seasonal employees in Yellowstone Park and occasionally stop here for breakfast on our days off before entering the park. Very friendly staff and great home style food. A real "local" cafe.

Had breakfast here twice and were delighted with our "diner food" of omelets, pancakes and french toast. Large portions and very friendly, fast service. My only suggestion is that they upgrade their coffee.

The place is a dump to be sure. 1970s vinyl chairs abound with dark brown Formica tables and uneven linoleum floors completing the look. A walk to the restroom leads past the bleak and depressing bar/casino that reeks of "dirty ashtray." The entrance is through a half-stocked gift shop that sells a small collection of dated souvenirs. All of this is obvious from a mere glance into the dirty windows from the sidewalk, however, so this review shall focus on the service and quality of food. Knowing that we were in a dive diner wasn't an issue with us. We like tacky, kitschy stuff. Unfortunately, any charm this dump could've had was overshadowed by the terrible food and service. The upside-down water glasses on the table were dirty and a little bit greasy. When the carafe of water arrived, we just let it sit there, because the water glasses were too gross to drink out of. We waited for 14 minutes for our order to be taken and then another 27 minutes to receive our food. Note, this place was about one third full, and it was 10:40 AM on a Monday morning. We both ordered the French toast, but when it arrived it was cold and hard. Truly, it was the single worst French toast order I had ever had. Our server, a young lad of barely 18, was nice enough and well-meaning, but not once did he apologize for the incredibly slow service or terrible food. Afterward, we went to the gift shop to pay our bill. We were behind a group of six that had split their bill three ways. The cashier was having difficulty trying to figure out how to split the bill on the register. After about five minutes of waiting the apparent owner or manager came barging into the room and physically shoved me aside so hard that I lost my balance. He was flustered and angry with this cashier and condescendingly asked in front of everyone there, "How long have you been working here!?" He then began mashing buttons on the register screen, apparently making it even worse. He didn't apologize for that additional wait or for shoving me either, which would explain our earlier service. Examples come from the top down. I'd give this diner a one-star review, but the orange juice was actually pretty good. The ironic thing is, however, the juice came from a carton. Would not recommend this place for any reason.

It has Lounge in the title above but it is far from being a bar as you can get. A diner experience without the theme of the fifties to go along with it. Think Cowboy Diner and then you will not be so disappointed with the decor. So you ask what is good about it? The food is fantastic along with the price! You can get stuffed for under $10 bucks. It does not have windows or things like that so if you are by yourself bring a paper or read one that someone else left and enjoy the steal of the century!

My family and I have come here twice during our Yellowstone vacations, both times for dinner. While the Town Cafe is far from fancy, be sure to order their burgers - affordable, delicious, AND flavorful! My only complaint with this Cafe is the service. We were 1 of 4 families in the entire restaurant, yet none of our dishes were cleared throughout the course of the meal. While our waiter was nice, our table was crowded with dirty dishes. The ice cream is also a bit overpriced, but it served as a nice dessert. The Town Cafe is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant that is worth checking out for a quick lunch or dinner.
