Went back today at lunch with my best friend. I had the salmon salad and she ordered the swordfish tacos with fries. They were out of tortillas so it came as a swordfish salad. She was fine with that and both meals were delicious. They waiter forgot her fries, but when we informed him, he brought them up right away. They were also excellent! We both ate healthy and well! I can't say enough about how great KOK is, this is becoming one of my favorite places to eat in Tupelo.

The ambiance was very nice and the wait staff were friendly. The owners took great care of their customers and it was obvious they bought locally. Our waiter was knowledgeable, very polite and made recommendations when asked. Very over priced and the reason for the two stars was we were not pleased with the steaks. My wife and I enjoyed the "cheese" plate but her steak and my bison left a lot to be desired for the price paid. Vegetables were cold off the grill. I did like the eclectic choice of foods but it was hard to tell exactly what KOK was or is trying to be. I would try them again just to see if other dishes are better like the fish but I would not go out of my way to do so. The Outback Steakhouse serves better steaks for more reasonable prices.

What an unreal place. I am overwhelmed with the flavors, the presentation and the service. SU-Perb

One of the BEST burgers I have had so far. The quality of meat was awesome. One day I am going to stop by and buy some it from their sister butcher shop/restaurant Neon Pig. The parmesan fries are also amazing and also enough for two to share, if you are willing to share them. I loved being able to watch them cook in the open kitchen and see all of the ingredients they were using. It was like watching someone cook at a Farmer's market table. I also tried some of the Crack Pie, it was ok, but not my type of dessert, but everyone else at the table liked it. We ordered it because we wanted to see what exactly it was. This place is a tad bit expensive, but the quality of the ingredients makes it worth it.

Yum fresh food. This place is sister of neon pig, and the food quality is as great. Although I did not see pig belly taco that I fell in love with. So one less star due to that. Other than that, this place is wonderful.

WOW. I hardly ever clean my plate. I wanted to lick it today. Everything was gone. Had a 3 taco special that was amazing. The chili, garlic ranch sauce they put on the tacos, I wanted to drink. Good pickled veggies and slaw's to compliment the meats. Highly recommend!!

We are doing a cross country road trip with our 5 yr old daughter and this was our first stop. I loved the decor and the philosophy the restaurant embodies. Farm to table is great! That being said, I ordered a salmon salad with the salmon "as rare as possible". They executed that perfectly! The only reason I am not giving it 4 stars is because the price was a bit high for the amount that was on the plate and also my lettuce was pretty gritty. Both my husband and daughter were happy with their food although there was no children's menu. Definitely worth the stop!

This place is the bomb, ya'll. A tip: make reservations, as they are small but busy! The charcuterie plate is out of this world, with a chow chow that melts in your mouth. Great selection of beers. Try the Mystery Romp. They have bacon caramel cheesecake. Say that again with me. Bacon. Caramel. Cheesecake. I had the filet and it was terrific.

Great local place & very laid back. Everything is prepared fresh - not frozen. Very friendly wait staff & inviting environment. I had the brisket burger & homemade fries. It was delicious & completely filling. The bun was fresh & made the burger that much better.

Kermits was set up very posh and hipster, the old building it is in is pretty cool. the wife and I ordered a $12- "cheese" plate... it had 2 tiny pieces of cheese and two small pieces of meat... this was a joke!! I didn't dare order anything else becuase the apiteizer menu was over priced for the tiny portions that you get... I'm sure the main courses were WAY over priced!! i know Neon Pig is expensive and this is where Kermit gets there stash.... and they have to mark it up more..... this is even more BS!!! I understand that you guys are trying the "Healthy thing" in a state that thrives on Deep Fried pork fat, but the only people you seem to be attraacting is the "well to do" Skinny hippy crowd. you can have healthy and less expensive by buying it yourself and learning to cook... I give you 2 instead of 1 star, just becuase the server was polite.

What can I say, so delicious, fresh. Locally sourced greens and ingredients, awesome prices and great ambiance. We sat at the counter for lunch, saw the amazing chef cook and prepare our meals right in front of us. I had the mahi tacos and the quinoa salad....soooo delicious, 3 huge tacos, the fish was fresh and delicious - chef also told me he's tossing an extra piece of salmon in there...yahoo, score. My salad was fresh organic greens, vinaigrette, quinoa, fresh blueberries and nectarines, so yummy. My colleague had the lunch special, a BBQ pork sandwich and salad, he said was sublime. I love this place, it also has an upstairs and they have a lively dinner service as well. Wait staff and chefs are friendly and helpful.

"If it comes from a plant, eat it. If it is made at a plant, don't." This quote is on a t-shirt hanging in the restaurant and sums up their motto perfectly. Kermit's Outlaw Kitchen (KOK) works to provide an artsy twist to healthy and wholesome food that almost everyone's tummy will love. KOK only buys fresh produce and antibiotic-free, all natural, pesticide-free meat from local farmers. The animals are grass fed and full of flavor. KOK even sells fresh produce on the first level of the restaurant. Not only is the food open and honest, but the people are 100% authentic. The waiters and waitresses are totally themselves. They seem to be just as excited about the awesome food as we are. The venue itself is SUPER cool. The entire place has the perfect combination of urban eclectic and home. On the first level, there are wooden tables and also seating around the chef's cooking area. For larger groups, there is seating upstairs near the pub area. There are decorative alligator heads, old photos, a cow's skull, and lights that are strung across the ceiling, adding to the cute, country feel. Ok, the food. I ordered Redfish, mom ordered Black Grouper, Avery ordered the Butcher's burger with fries, Linden ordered the appetizer salad and added Black Grouper, and my dad ordered the Neon Burger. The Redfish was fabulous with the medley of blueberries, cucumbers, onion, tomato, and chard. I do not even like cucumbers usually but it had some type of balsamic vinegar with a kick... Ooo!! It was yummy. The fried eggplant that accompanied it was good, but I am not as big of a fried food lover as I used to be, so I only had a few bites. The plate also came with a yellow sauce or something that was delicious. My family loved their dishes as well and we recommend adding some type of protein if you are also eating the berry salad appetizer as your main meal. The Black Grouper was fabulous and tasted clean/ it is a mild fish. P.S. The neon burger is fantastic but it does not come with a bun or fries. All meals are either served on a wooden slab or a funky organic bowl. The wait time for the food was a little long because there is one chef cooking, HOWEVER, he will be blessing your tastebuds with his delicious food. The meal is definitely worth a little bit of waiting. Hey, have a conversation with your dinner partner! Get to know each other more. While it is more on the expensive side, it is worth it for the venue, the aesthetically and tastebud-pleasing meal, and the the people, who are 100% authentic. It is an experience you do not want to pass up.

One of the most mixed reviews I've ever written THE FOOD The spare ribs were the best I've had, on the planet, ever. And one of the best pieces of meat in my life. Beer selection was middling, but not too shabby. THE ATMOSPHERE I really loved the exposed brick walls and hardwood floors, with the bustle of a happening place. THE SERVICE This is where things really went south. The too young, and self important bartender upstairs knew not much about food and drink, but she was chock full of attitude.

Great burger and fries. Love that everything is Farm fresh. The staff was attentive to the needs of our group to accomidate the number we had. I'd recommend to my friends!

Here we go.... As I have posted in the past, I'm a commercial pilot that travels and hits LOTS of small cities. I normally will only post shit holes or places that kick ass. This restaurant is OUT FUK'IN STANDING...!!! I normally don't eat red meat due to the hormones but when I heard about EVERYTHING on the menu being locally harvested (including the meat) I ordered the T-bone and watched the entire preparation. The quality of food here is DEFINITELY 5 Star, Even the BEER is local..! With Blues playing and the laid back this is a great place to hang out, even the owner was personable and spoke with us while cooking on the line. If your hungry PLEASE support the local little guys.

Hands down.... thumbs up.. NY city quality food in Tupelo.. truly hidden Gem As a pilot I travel a lot of different cities ate different food. this place will be within top 5 restaurant in my 14 year of travel... You gotta try t-bone steak..

Driving to Gulf Shores. Found it on YELP. Ordered the "award winning" "Smash Burger". Bun was not buttered and toasted as was supposed to be, so I discarded it. Rest of ingredients were wonderful and amazing in flavor, but too much gristle in meat. French fries were not greasy and crisp. Very friendly, helpful and accommodating (I requested larger slices of lemons). Sweet tea was perfect and refillable.

After a failed attempt to eat here over the July 4th weekend I made the trip back to give lunch a try. Kept it simple and had a hamburger with fresh cut fries. While the burger was not life changing it was pretty darn good as were the fries and love the condiment bar with slaw and pickle slices along with a homemade pepper concoction that was great as well. I am a strong believer in eating local and this is another great example why!!

We stopped in here when we were passing through tupelo on a Thursday afternoon for a quick lunch. SETTING: It has the feel of a local southern bar and grill, but was definitely on the cleaner and more modern end. You order at the counter and then take a number for your table. Upstairs is a large seating area with several expensively upholstered pieces, exposed brick, a long bar, and window overlooking the quaint downtown. If tupelo has anything of a weekend bar scene, this would be as stylish of a place as any, I would think (but what do I know, I'm not a local). SERVICE: Friendly and casual FOOD: I ordered a shrimp po boy, which was pretty good, along with some fries. Overall, food was decent and worth whatever was paid for it. I would return to Kermit's if my travels take me again to Tupelo.

Really enjoyed this place for dinner. We ordered salmon and ribeye. Both were good and served with a unique variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. We also ordered blueberry cheesecake (homemade by the hostess) with ice cream. We asked for nuts and it was a great addition. The portions were just the right size. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgable. Very nice dining experience.

Great spot in downtown Tupelo. Had the pulled pork tacos with a side of parmesan fries. It was delicious. A real pleasant surprise!

Greeted as soon as we walked in and the staff was very friendly. My mom and I didn't know what some of the ingredients were but the staff was very informative. One of the reviews mentioned the health hazard of the bucket of ice but honestly it wasn't as bad as stated. There was a metal cup almost like a measuring cup with a long handle. Maybe it's just me but I honestly don't mind. It added to the laid back familial vibe! My chicken burrito was excellent. No complaints whatsoever and at $9 I was surprised that it wasn't more. My mother on the other hand, thought that $9 was a bit much for what she got ( I took a bite but I don't really like burgers to begin with sooo I can't really comment). She's telling me now it was that she didn't have the burger cooked to her liking haha she doesn't want people to think she's snoody. Anyways I would go back if I lived closer to try the awesome steaks I read about! Oh well, maybe next time:) and I hope the pictures I posted are helpful!

Outstanding on all levels. I was going to go four stars but in terms of doing what they are trying to do and providing an exceptional experience both in terms of food and ambience, this place is doing everything right. The service was outstanding and friendly, with the guy behind the counter who took our orders offering up a sample of a freshly sliced peach, and hitting the small talk level of engagement just right. As for the food, let's just say there was not a morsel left on any of the five plates we ordered for our family.

Awesome food with local ingredients. I had salmon tacos & farm salad. It was delicious! Very eccentric & relaxed environment

Great place to eat and relax. The local sourced food is amazing. What is most impressive is the cooking without overpowering seasoning. The natural favors are wonderful. Worth a visit by all means.

Food was spectacular but service was lacking (we waited over an hour for our food). Would definitely go back and give another chance, however.

I ordered (take out) the shrimp lettuce wrap with the parmesan fries yesterday. I think it's called Dizzy Dean. It took a really long time to get the food even though they were not super busy. When I got back to the office I discovered they had instead given me the turkey lettuce wrap which was so steeped in balsamic that you could hardly taste the turkey. Worst of all, the food was stone cold. The drive from the restaurant to the office is only 5 minutes. So I don't understand how this is possible. Tupelo I am sorry to say has few good food options and I was really excited about this restaurant's farm to table concept. I really wanted to like it but it was a huge disappointment.

Just passing through, found this place on yelp. I loved it. We both had the t-bone, it was perfectly cooked. The cheesecake for dessert was very good. It is pricey, roughly 35.00 per person, but when the food and service is that good, you don't mind. I wish that I lived close enough to come back here. Make reservations... It's worth it.

Let me tell you I'm a foodie from Memphis and everything was awesome! The atmosphere, the service, the oysters, the grass fed ribeye steak and sides. It was all awesome and I'll definitely be back.

Not what you would expect in Tupelo. Fantastic fresh food and a stunning atmosphere. Exposed brick interior preserves the feel of this old bakery turned into a modern restaurant. What a find! I had the shrimp burrito. It was fresh and spicy, served on a block of wood for a minimalist yet hip style.

Wood grilled oysters were fresh and amazing. Duck was good also. Nice atmosphere. Slow service when packed. But well worth the wait

This place was fabulously delicious. I had the bahn mi with the cranberry orange vodka and parm fries .... So good!!! To top off a great meal and great cocktail, the chef/cooks were easy on the eyes and fun to watch.

  • Monte B.

My review is based on a couple of the brunches and one dinner, but I would be here a lot more if I lived in Tupelo and had the budget! Cooking with the farm to table concept automatically gives me high hopes, and they don't disappoint. Everything I've had has been good, and the sides of whatever is in season are awesome. The smoked Apalachicola oysters, and the house made sausage have been standouts for me. Adventurous bar, and I can't wait for my next time.

Great location with wonderful character. The service was good. The food very tasty including terrific open faced tacos. The dessert was very good too. We will definitely be back the next time we're in town.

  • Trent G.

This place is awesome, great atmosphere and food! I got the ribeye, and it was cooked perfectly and the tub they use gives it a great flavor. Being from Los Angeles this isn't a place you would expect to find in tupelo. Don't listen to Brad, 14 dollars for a quality burger is a good deal. Go down to hardeez if you want a cheap nasty burger.

Local place sourcing local, sustainably raised food in Tupelo, MS? You bet your bippy! And it's moderately priced as well. When I read the reviews, most didn't do this place justice. My wife ordered the shrimp tacos and I ordered the Elvis burger --grass fed ground brisket with the Charcuterie plate. The burger was the best I've had at a restaurant in recent memory. Her tacos were also excellent. The charcuterie was amazing--you just don't expect this kind of quality in smaller cities in the deep south. The owner talked with us and he's truly committed to sourcing farm to table food. The downstairs is small, but there's a huge upstairs eating area that's very nice. The only thing I'd change is losing the disposable plates.

  • Kendra W.

I went here with my mom some time ago. The place deems itself organic and uses local ingredients. I'm usually iffy about places like that, but this one is really good. It's a bit pricey, but the food is filling, yet light and you don't feel gross afterwards. I got the shrimp po boy and parm fries, it was AMAZING.

  • Bill R.

Great, great, great food. I've eaten in the restaurant and had an event catered. Seafood very decent and lunch menus with great comfort food. Only downside is that they're a little small and it's easy to find them full.

  • Deirdre O.

I was pleasantly surprised by the level of culinary excellence at this charming restaurant. I loved the local ingredients and the complex cooking methods that resulted in food that wasn't over wrought. The salad was the best I had ever tasted. Visit KOK immediately.

Rolled onto Main Street on a Friday night to check out a restaurant that has popped up recently. Kermit's Outlaw Kitchen, aka KOK, caught my eye with a couple of articles in local publications, so I went with a friend to give them a try. First impression is that the place has nice ambience. First knock against it though is that there doesn't seem to be a host/ess stand, so it was a little confusing to find out what we were supposed to do to get a table. Finally, we learned that the bar was open seating, so we bellied on up to the bar. I was not impressed with how long it took for the barkeep to get around to taking our drink order (10+ minutes), but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt since it looked like she was occupied with other stuff. There seemed to be a shortage of menus (they're paper, so I didn't quite understand that), but we managed to find one to share in the meantime. There was a decent selection of items on the menu, with emphasis on steaks. I was eager to try out their locally sourced veggies, so I went with a fantastic sounding vegetable plate. Long story short: everything on my plate was de-licious, even though I'm not sure how local that avocado could have possibly been. I ordered up a tasty pale ale from Yazoo Brewing Company to wash it all down with, and, all in all, the food did not disappoint. Our service ended up okay, but it was definitely the worst part of the experience. If you're going in on a Friday/Saturday night, I would recommend calling ahead for a table reservation. I'm assuming you would get much better service if you have a waiter all your own. The food and drink was good. The ambience was great. The service was passable. I would probably turn up here again, so I'll go with 4/5 stars.

After setting up for the Gumtree Festival we stopped for a Friday night bite . No wait for a table but looked busy. Friendly hostess. Beer list was long and beer was cold. Got a charcuterie plate and a dozen oysters on the half shell to start. Both were excellent. I got a spinach salad which was also very good. My wife and I split an entree of fresh local veggies ... It was pretty good especially the kale and the grilled corn. Other was ok. For desert we got something called crack pie . It wasn't that it wasn't tasty.... Just waaay too salty. All in all it was great. Would definitely eat there again and recommend to others. Waitress was fantastic.

Great place to eat in Downtown Tupelo. Nice selection of burgers and sandwiches. They have a lot of odd combination but they are usually pretty good. My only complaint is that you can't always get the same thing, they are often out of ingredients which isn't a big deal since everything is fresh and local.

    (4)
  • Michael F.

This restaurant is incredible. It's known for its smash burger but the Elvis burger was the best burger I've ever eaten, and the appetizer plate was fantastic. Really excellent craft brews and the music was so, so good. Eat at this place.

I only rated this three stars, because the food was too rich for my taste. That said it tasted excellent perhaps two excellent as a pub atmosphere it was much much better than the typical pup.

Best salads in town by far. The particular combinations of different fruit and veggies in the salads make you feel so energized and refreshed after a meal. I just recently got into salads and let me tell you, these are some colorful plates. Everything from cooked baby mushrooms, argulia, mango, chicken and strawberries together on one plate- now that is some superfood combination! Let's not forget their fantastic dressing. It gets crazy though -- I've never enjoyed mushrooms. Let me rephrase, I absolutely hate the taste of mushrooms... But at KOK they know how to make them taste good... And not by adding a ton of sauce or spices, just the food combination. If I could eat here everyday I would. I have never even been to the upstairs section, and am very confident in giving this business a 5 stars!! They even had some nice little kids meals for my kids. I can't wait to come here this weekend and try some other dishes besides the salads! KOK has to be my favorite place (for food anyways) in downtown Tupelo. I believe they just beat the Grill in my book. Now that is something to talk about, folks! You must try this food ASAP and if you like salads, try one at KOK and be prepared to be amazed and intoxicated with fresh flavor!

Yet again another quality experience for this food snob. KOK just rolled out brunch on first Sundays, and it was everything I'd hoped for. Elvis Pancakes (yes, PB and Honey, bananas, whipped, etc), frittitas (individual frittatas) in SO many flavors, bloody Marys, and more...! I cannot wait for first Sunday in April...however, PLEASE add eggs benedict with your Mitch and Seth twist...

In short, this place is way too pricey for what you get and they try too hard to be different. Let's talk about the price.... Whenever you have to spend over $13 just for burger, fries, and tea, then you should expect to be catered to at that price. Not the case at all. Fries cost an extra $3.00 and what you get is about 10 over cooked fries. You have to go get your own drinks (more on that later), and service is pretty much nonexistant. Health hazard notice - whenever you get your own tea, there is an open tub of ice near the tea dispensers. Customers are to use their unclean hands to grab a Tupperware bowl to scoop ice. That means that the ice will have everyone's germs in it. I'm not sure how this place passes health inspection to be honest. No supervision to make sure kids aren't just sticking their hands in that tub. Seriously, who thought that setup was a good idea? The fries I had with my burger were overcooked and certainly shouldn't have cost 30cents per fry. The $9.00 burger itself wasn't special - just a burger on a toasted roll. The burgers at Wendy's are much better and nowhere near that cost. When I said that they try too hard to be different, this is what I mean - They have the customers order at a counter and then have the customers to grab their canned drinks out of a cooler themselves or go get their own tea with the health hazard of an ice tub. They view this as being "cool", but it's just lame. It's a way for them to save money because there is no service, while gouging people's pocketbooks on the overpriced, and not anything special, foods.

Best sandwiches we have ever had! These California food snobs were very impressed! We had the BLT and the smoked turkey sandwich. Delicious! We can't wait to go back and try the dinner menu!

While visiting MS for the Thanksgiving holiday, my friend made reservations at Kermit's as we were both ready for a Farm to table experience. The food was delicious but pricey for the service. Here are the cons: 1. Poor service - you have to pull you silverware out of a mason jar and pull off your paper towel for a napkin. There wasn't a tablecloth either. When am average entree is over $25 then these details need to occur also, you had to go the counter to pay the bill! The bill was just split with no itemized detail. Odd! . 2. Smokey - the restaurant was so smokey that I had to wash all my clothes and have my coat dry cleaned to get the wood fire smell out. 3. No bread - again with the price point you would expect bread. 4. Knowledge from servers - when asked about the dishes the waitress could not describe what was included in the dish and made a reference that pork was red meat. 5. Wait time - wait at least 15 or more for drinks and it took 45min for the appetizer. Pros: 1. Vibe - great ambiance. 2. Food was delicious and different. Several people stopped by to check on the food. Hopefully, this restaurant can improve on the details to keep charging a high price point. Maybe some additional training for the servers, too.

KOK is the best place in Tupelo in my opinion. Great fresh and local foods only here. I highly recommend it. PS- The short ribs are awesome!

Called for reservations of 5 was told they were full. Asked if we walked in would we be turned away and she said yes! I asked if they had a private party she said no. So obviously they are a reservation only and in advance! You would think they would leave a little room for walk-Ins. After waiting for their reviews to improve and the newness kinks to be worked I was excited to try them but they lost that opportunity with the person who answered their phone.
