Swanky's Taco Shop - the name is catchy and add to it other Yelp reviews I was curious. Seeing fish tacos on the menu I was somewhat skeptical, but upon talking to the helpful staff, I ordered the fish tacos grilled. Excellent taste and a dish I'd certainly order again.

"Made my own veggie tacos that were delicious! My crispy purple taco shells were still nice and crispy when I sat down to eat them after rice, beans, veggies, hot sauce... were added to them. If you love fire hot hot sauce you'll love their hot sauce. It set my mouth and lips on FIRE!!! Best tacos I've bought in years.

Disappointed to find out that they don't have wine or sangria anymore. I had the ahi tacos and the street corn. The tacos weren't bad, not particularly spectacular however. They didn't have a very good balance of fish, salsa, slaw. I did like the blue corn hard shell versus the usual soft corn tortillas. The Mexican street corn was a huge let down though. It was kinda of tangy like it was either made with sour cream or had sat out for too long. I had two bites and threw the rest away. Very sad.

I am glad that they opened a location in my area. It is a great, local chain where you can get quite a few mexican selections relatively fast and still sit down and eat them. I am a fan of their sirloin steak burrito bowls. I like to be able to pick what I want on it, since I am picky with toppings and sauces. The line to order and put together your meal has been pretty fast and efficient every time I have visited so far. If you have something that they have to prepare in the kitchen, like enchiladas or a quesadilla, it will take longer though.

My husband and i used to go to Swankys in Germantown all.the.time so we decided to try Southaven and it was just OK. They seemed extremely short staffed and very frazzled with maybe 6 people in the place. They were out over several ingredients on a saturday which boggles my mind on how they could let that happen. No one really seemed to care about the customers, just trying to get the job done so they could go. The food was good. I ordered a burrito bowl which was enough for 3 people and my husband got a mexican pizza and nachos. Both were just ok in his opinion. Next time i will go to kroger and get my own ingredients to make swankys style food and save the money.

Slowwww service, not friendly staff and cold chicken in my burrito bowl. Sloppy service too. Does anyone in the restaurant biz care about service anymore?! Smh!

I stopped in to get dinner last night. This is a cool little Mexican restaurant. They have a pretty nice menu selection. I had the Beef enchiladas, Black Beans and rice with Sweet Tea. This is a fast food style restaurant, you walk in place your order, pay and have a seat and your order is brought to you. You get your own non-alcoholic drink from the drink station. They have a small selevtion of beer to choose from. Its not your traditional mexican themed restaurant. This restaurant was clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The decor isn't mexican or southwest themed. It looks very modern and trendy.

Being on the road it is hard to find good food at reasonable prices. This place Beats the two chain (C & Q) hands down!!!! The burrito bowl was bursting with flavor and the beer helped top it off. For sure will come here again when I am back.

I have never been disappointed at any Swanky's and the Southaven location is no exception. My only input would be that the chips are too salty, but that might be just a matter of preference. Friendly staff and the place is clean and inviting.

This place is basically chipotle but just better. They have an outdoor patio and indoor there are a few tvs and serving drinks is a plus. They have the similar make your own burrito/bowl/salad like chipotle but their menu seems a bit more expansive. Chips and salsa come with your food and it's not a dinky serving. A heaping basket and plenty of salsa go a long way. One of the things that I appreciated most is when I asked for a cup of water they didn't give me a 2 oz shot glass like subway. Thank you for not mini sizing just cause I didn't order a drink. Overall, not out of this world spectacular but it exceeded my expectations and would definitely go back for a quick meal.

What do you get when you mix Qdoba & Booyah's? SWANKY'S TACO SHOP!!! This place delivers a very fresh selection of American-Mexican fare. I chose the Tuna Tacos with Mango Salsa & mixed veggies. The tuna was med-rare and perfectly seasoned! The tuna was paired with an amazing Mango Salsa, which complimented it very nicely! My date chose an over-stuffed chicken burrito, which he devoured in a matter of minutes. He raved long after the last morsel was eaten. The chips were seasoned--like Booyah's-which we LOVE!! The salsa that came with them was very good. We will definitely be back.

The food options are greater than Chipotle. Taco, burrito, salad bowl, burrito bowl, enchiladas and plenty other choices to, however the flavors are not quite as bold. The meats all seem to have just a bland and blagha flavor. The chips do however have a really snappy and delicious season salt applied and there great with the salsa or on there own. The service is sub par to Chipotle, Moes, Qudoba ...the staff although busy couldn't seem to get it keep the line moving at typical lunchtime pace. I had to wait for 15min just to get burrito bowl. The problem came with others order foods that required being prepared behind the counter space and thereby stacking all others up until those foods were made and brought to the register. This could be solved by issuing customers if HOT Special foods a number and bringing food to the table once prepared while letting the service counter food roll on down the line with regular speeds. It's the overall experience that earned them 3 stars but still some pretty good food considering.

Second the motion that this place is like qdoba. They are very similar in taste and affordability. That means that this place is good. Caution for people liking spicy. Their shereded beef and hot sauce combination is pretty potent.

Found this one on Yelp while I was looking for a decent place to eat near my hotel. I am currently on a low carb diet and sometimes it is hard to find a place to fill up on minimal carbs. When looking through the menu I stumbled on the Build your own bowl and thought I would give it a shot. I walk in and quickly figured out this was like a Moe's Southwestern. A assembly line awaited me as I placed my order for a fajita bowl. Blackbeans, Fajita steak, a couple of sauces, cheese, lettuce, olives, fresh Cilantro, pico de gaio and some jalepenos was the selection for the night. I sat down and was pleasantly surprised and the flavor and freshness of the product. the taste of coriander, pepper and other Mexican spices rang through. $10 and 20 min. later I was a happy camper. I often return here for supper when I am up that way.

Really liked it! Chips and salsa are great. Tacos are my fave, enchiladas were good not sure I'd order them again though. The hot sauce on the table is addictive. I love they don't charge for extras.

What a delicious surprise. Lots of topping options and fresh salsas. Seemed to be similar in setup and price to a chipotle, but with more options and flavors. Sad I don't live nearby to come again.

This place has decent food not amazing it's basically a downgraded version of chipotle. Another thing me and my girlfriend did not like was the very small portions they added to our burrito but other than that this place is the best alternative to chipotle if you live in the Whitehaven/Southaven area.

As I was passing through, I say this restaurant and when back to try it for lunch. It was pricey for lunch and the person preparing my order didn't understand what I wanted but we finally got it taken care of. The food was really good and the service was about average.

I was in Southhaven for business in August and staying close to Swanky's. I ordered what I believe was the taco sampler (I chose one taco steak carbon and one veggie taco) and labeled as "new" on the menu. At the time, the Southhaven location was not prepared to make the new items. I was prepared to wait for my order, but I watched as the guys in the kitchen put my "to go" order on a "dine in plate." The food sat for several minutes before a server walked over. She picked up the receipt associated with my order and called out a name... it was the name of the cashier. Instead of asking what to do, the server put my order back on the counter... puzzled, but finally realizing it was "to go." Unfortunately, they put it in a bag and left it on the counter. Finally, seeing what was going on I asked the cashier, "is that my order?" It was. Willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was a new menu item and this location seemed new as well, I put on a happy face and headed with my food to my hotel. Unfortunately, the food experience was similar to the wait time - disappointing. On a happy note/ ending, I submitted my concerns to the restaurant website and received a prompt response from the General Manger that my concerns were being addressed. I would be willing to try Swanky's again, but I will only order the items readily available. Until I try Swanky's again, I'm giving a 3.

My daughter and I decided this would be a good place to have dinner, but wish we had gone somewhere else. The guac was just ok. Beans had an unpleasant smell. The shrimp taco was ok but the steak taco was iffy. I wanted to like it, but the drink (Abita strawberry) was the best part.

This place was awesome. The shredded beef tacos were off the hook and the 2 for 1 margarita deal was great.

I adore Swankys, and visit their Germantown location often. This one is more convenient to my home, so I'm sure I'll be back again soon. The lines at this location are typically very short, but if you show up after 12:30 for lunch, be prepared to wait. The restaurant itself is very clean and the food is amazing! The only reason this location didn't get the full five stars is because they don't yet have the awesome Tequila bar like the other locations!

This place is like an up scale chiptole. Had a chicken bowl. All the ingredients appeared and tasted of good quality. I would definitely come back.

Absolutely a great restaurant. GENEROUS entree portions and plenty of toppings to customize your meal. Clean and relaxing. Staff is friendly and seem like they enjoy their jobs. We will be regulars!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
