Had the carne Asada nachos which had skinny strips of unseasoned steak and barely any cheese with chips which wasn't worth the price at all. Tried guacamole which was more like pico with avocado added. Which I don't consider guacamole. Had a sweet flavor which I like mine more salty.

The service was absolutely horrible! I went there for lunch and there were only 2 other groups there. It took them an hour to get our food out to us. That's after the fact that it took about 30 minutes for them to just get our drinks out to us. The food was cold and the cheese dip was super chunky. I got chicken, cheese, and rice and my chicken was almost powdery. The chips were soggy and rubbery. My friend's steak was all fat, and the tortillas were too thin. The only good thing about this place, is that the restaurant was clean. I probably won't be back any time soon.

This was already the most authentic Mexican restaurant I've found around Memphis, and it's comparable to the local, mom and pop joints I frequent in Monterey and Puebla, Mexico. I couldn't wait for dinner today, and I get a nice surprise when I show up--$.99 margaritas all day. I love this place!

I dropped in here for lunch with a coworker with a bogo lunch option coupon. We got there around 11:30 and it was completely empty but they were already out of tamales... I'm really sad that they didn't have any but I managed to try something new instead. He and I both ended up ordering the Grilled Shrimp Quesadilla with Chorizo. It was a unique option that I have never seen anywhere else. The salsa was bland and normal but ok but the rice and beans were just not good. Buuuut the quesadilla was great! My only problem with it was that I forgot chorizo doesn't settle well on my stomach (it's been awhile since I had it and it's super greasy) so my tummy was rumbly all day. But it tasted really really good so if you don't have a sensitive tummy like I do then definitely give it a go! Note: They have a coupon in the Memphis Entertainment 2014 Coupon Book. Liked: Grilled Shrimp Quesadilla with Chorizo (note for me: chorizo doesn't settle on my stomach) Didn't like: The salsa beans and rice

Wow...great that people got to eat. I went in, got a coke...waited. waited. Waited. It was dinner time. So I dropped a couple dollars and left. Was there 15+ minutes. No menu. No chips. No service. Plus all the TV's were on Spanish stations. I like futbol. But can we have at least one on sports center? I'll try again

I have been a loyal customer of Rio Grande for several years. The restaurant was everything one would expect from a Mexican restaurant - with an extra touch of freshness and perfection. It was a five of five star establishment. On 7/1/14, I made my first and last visit under its new ownership. The chips were not crispy, the cilantro in the salsa was improperly diced (huge chucks of leaves and stems), the steak in my taco was mostly charred fat and grease, and the beans lacked seasoning (obviously heated and served from a can). After two hours, I left the restaurant hungrier than when I arrived. Since the cashier snatched my credit card and ticket from my hand while continuing a conversation on her cell phone without giving me the opportunity to express my displeasure, I suppose I will dispute the charge once my statement arrives. It is my understanding that this place will change its name soon. I had hoped it was merely a bad night for the new owners (I was willing to accept the issues with the kitchen). However, the casher/manager's actions prove the place has no hope and does not deserve a second chance.

Wow!! As good as it gets for Mexican food. Authentic food, atmosphere, cooks and serving staff. Delicious, affordable and newly opened. Family owned (not my family). we stopped in last night and enjoyed the extensive menu & took leftovers home!!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
