Milanos has been around Memphis for as long as I can remember. Whether it's Southaven, Germantown, Collierville, Bartlett, or Riverdale (my old stomping ground, now gone) this is some of the closest to NY pizza as my little southern brain could imagine. Sure, I've never been to NYC but I've watched a bunch of SVU, Seinfeld, Sex & the City, Sopranos, etc, so I am a partial expert. This pizza is on point, any flavor, any crust. The calzones are to die for! My personal favorite is the double stuffed/two crust/meat stuffed whatever (see pic)! It is fantastic! We have been getting this beautiful fat filled freak of a pizza for at least 17 years that I can remember. It never fails to impress me. It's stuffed with sausage, ham, cheese, and pepperoni. The sauce is on the side so you an use at your discretion. Note: My wife swears the Homemade Italian Dressing is the best on the planet and no stuffed pizza is complete without it. They have a bunch of lunch specials here and the people are as friendly as you would expect NYC people would be. (That adds to the charm) Do it! Tell them Adam sent you... They will look at you like, what?

Today (May 8), I decided to grab some pizza for lunch. I have pretty much struck-out in terms of good pizza places here in the Western TN / Northern MS region, so I was a little leery about MIlano's -- given that it is a self-proclaimed NY style pizzeria and I am very critical when it comes to NY style pizzerias. Food: The pizza was good. It definitely was not great; but it also wasn't (as one member put it) equivalent to 'Red Baron' frozen pizza. That was a grossly over-exaggerated. In terms of it being a NY-style pizza? They are correct, it definitely meets the criteria. First, let's talk about the components of the pizza. As I have said in multiple reviews, to measure a pizza's success, it is how each and every component of the pizza marries with the other. There should never be one singular component that stands-out from the others because a great pizza is the sum of its parts. Sauce: The sauce was lacking flavor. It tasted like tomatoes...but not necessarily fresh tomatoes. The sauce was also lacking the freshness factor from much needed fresh basil or parsley. I would be shocked if someone told me that they use fresh herbs to flavor the sauce, because it doesn't taste like it at all. Though the sauce was balanced nicely -- in terms of salty to acidity to sweetness -- the sauce was also lacking freshness. Sauce: 3 / 5 Dough: This was the least successful component of the pizza. It was way to 'cracker-y'. An authentic NY style pizza dough is a thing of beauty. It has an extraordinary crispy-ness on the outside (like Milano's), but a tender, supple, and chewy-ness on the interior (unlike MIlano's). Dough: 3 / 5 Cheese: This was the shining star component of the pizza. Though, remember, this is not necessarily good. Like I said, all the components of a pizza should compliment one another and meld together in wonderful 'Kumbaya'-like harmony. Despite this, the cheese is of an excellent quality, and should be rewarded as such. Cheese: 5 / 5 Toppings: This irks me. Maybe it is just a midsouth thing, but your sausage is awful. This is the third place I have been where I get sausage like this. It is NOT Italian sausage. It taste like Jimmy Dean -- (i.e. bad). For a NY style pizza place to put this sausage on their pizza is blasphemy. I also had a slice of pepperoni. The pepperoni was of excellent quality, but I like it when my pepperoni gets crispy around the edges...this pepperoni did not. This, of course, is a result of the way they bake the pizza, and not the pepperoni; but it is still important to note. Toppings: 3 / 5 (pepperoni = 5 / 5 & sausage = 1 / 5) Overall Pizza Rating: 3 / 5 Service: Exactly what I would expect at a NY style pizzeria. I even got jeered a little bit for wearing a Red Sox shirt. Though they did not go above and beyond in any real facet, they were friendly, courteous, and prompt. Something that I am also finding is rare in these parts. Service: 4 / 5 Atmosphere: They nailed it. It felt like an authentic NY style pizzeria. From the way the decor was, to the style of the booths, to just the overall feel of the restaurant. I am also a big stickler on cleanliness, and, for the most part, the restaurant was clean. Atmosphere: 4 / 5 Price: 2.35 for a giant slice of cheese pizza is fair, and relatively in-line with what I would expect. All of their prices seemed extremely fair, especially for the above-average product you get in return. Price: 4 / 5 Final Thoughts: No, Milano's is not the best pizza I have ever had. And yes, if Milano's was open for business anywhere in NY State, they would close within months; but for this area, it is pretty good pizza. I will likely come back here in the next week or so and try the calzones. For those of you that know my reviews, this is where they will significantly lose points on an update, or significantly gain some. If this were NY, I would not recommend this place; but being that we are in a place where the best pizza comes out of my oven at home, this is passable for good pizza.

Haven't had anything that I didn't like here. You can't go wrong with the meat stuffed pizza. If I want to be healthy I get the grilled chicken salad which is also outstanding. Also, Joe and the rest of his crew are very friendly and I enjoy talking to them when I'm in there (usually once or twice a week).

To make it short: Go somewhere else. The good: The cheese breadsticks were delicious. The bad: The pizza is no where near good. If you've ever had a Red Barons frozen pizza and liked it, then this place is for you. The pizza wasn't impressive at all. The tea was stale. The chocolate cheesecake was old. We won't go back.

So the family and I decided to try Milanos pizza. Terrible mistake. The crust was burnt, we were served on paper plates, the pizza was awful. The only good thing we had was the soft drinks.

Milanos is our favorite pizza joint where we live. Classic NY style pizza. Great food and service. The pizza is a thin crust and baked just right. Their house salads are also very good.

The food and service is always amazing! The individual slices are good, but I recommend having a whole pizza made fresh. The pastas, salads, and sandwiches are also top notch. One of my favorite pizzerias in the Memphis area!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
