This place has great down-home Southern cooking! We love their meat and veggie specials, candied yams, fried cabbage, purple hull peas, greens, corn nuggets, and fried green tomatoes. The open faced pot roast sandwich, pork chops, country fried steak, and catfish are all fantastic! The turkey and dressing is the Sunday and Thursday special and it's right up there with my Mamaw's! Really, I've never had anything here that wasn't good. My sons love their burgers. The homemade pies will make you want to sleep your mamma. That could be why my mamma never eats there with me. It's all very reasonably priced. The service can be slow about 1 of out of 15 visits, but it's always friendly and reasonably priced. I've been eating there for years and they keep me coming back for more! They've been updating the decor and, as crazy as this sounds, check out the gorgeous bathroom! It's even prettier that the newly decorated waiting area.

I'd heard about this place, and decided to try it for lunch. Their daily lunch special was $8, which included a meat and 3 vegetables. I chose the fried chicken, which was very good, as were the sides of okra, slaw, and beans. Service was good, and friendly. The atmosphere was down home and country, and the fellow customers a trove of history. For example, I learned that Dale's first opened as a drive-thru hamburger joint, and burgers were 10 for $1! I'd defintely eat here again.

Down home, fresh, southern cooked food. I've always found the servers to be great and the food delicious. Their cornbread muffins (served before the meal) are great. On my most recent visit I had the the 4 Star (4 cheeses) chargrilled burger which was lip smacking delectable. Love the yesterworld decor. Currently they have a Christmas Village Display in a huge opening near the front door along with a gargantuan Christmas tree.

Good place for lunch with quality service and food, temperature can be a little cold in the back room. Service can be slower if you are a group of 6 or more. However the food is worth the wait.

I have heard such good things about Dale's and finally was in the area to give it a try. Dang, I was so disappointed. To begin, service was brusque, as if I really don't feel like dealing with you but it's my job. As to the food I had Chicken and dressing with sides of "Snap beans" and cabbage. The "Snap beans" were nothing more than canned green beans with no attempt to season them at all, yet alone to warm them. The cabbage was so bland and just beyond cold. The Chicken and dressing? Well, the dressing was tasty but it was troublesome having to spit the many tiny chicken bones from my mouth. The chicken, well I think they forgot that part except for maybe a tablespoon. My dining companion ordered a 3 piece fried chicken with fried okra and yams. She got 2 pieces of chicken with ice cold okra. She said the yams were okay. I told the waitress she ordered a 3 piece meal and only received 2. We were comped 40 cents for the mistake. I didn't bother to see if this was fair as I was done with dining at Dale's. Oh, the bread was pretty good, otherwise we would have left hungry.

The fried chicken and the biscuits are to die for! The service is fast and friendly. The atmosphere is definitely lacking in that old plastic tablecover sort of way.

This place is always BUMPIN. I'm surprised some Southaven residents weren't starved to death while this place was being renovated for a few months. Dale's has a homey atmosphere, very relaxed. Their cornbread is shockingly... dense. Like, it takes a little more effort to bite/cut thru it than you'd expect from cornbread. I'm not sure if that would be a good thing to some people, but it TASTES great (along with the regular rolls that are served). I've had a few meals here, and one thing that surprised me was how good their fried chicken was. You can order individual pieces for fairly cheap. One of my only complaints is that they seem to make their staff park across the busy Stateline road and frogger across to and from work. I drive past there daily and I've had a few close encounters! I guess their parking lot is typically pretty full... once again, that place stays busy.

I come to Dale's quite a bit since it is so close to my office. I have never had a bad meal here. I love their Chicken Fried Steak and the turnip greens (available on Thursdays). I love the down home feel when I go into this restaurant, and the service is always terrific regardless of how large our party is. You must go here!

We found this place by accident but we were pleasantly surprised. A typical Southern Cafe with excellent, friendly service. The menu is extensive and filled with all your comfort food favorites. Prices are reasonable and portions are substantial. food was served quickly and was very tasty. This place is worth adrive.

It's hard for me to review Dales without a little bias. I grew up eating here, so much of my love for this place stems from nostalgia. BUT, having eaten here a few times recently, it's still as good as I remember. It's good old comfort food, and it's cheap! I could eat my weight in their cornbread. You really can't go wrong with any of their Southern dishes, and their pies are usually delicious!

Nice place, stepping back in time with the decor but that's ok. Service was wonderful from Nikki, food served fast and was very good. Had Dale's Famous Fried Chicken but nobody could tell me why it was famous! Topped it off with some chocolate pie - they don't have ice cream. Back open after a closure from a kitchen fire.

The food at Dale's is tasty & nostalgic, the service is very friendly, the prices are good, and the atmosphere is cozy. Great place for family meals or comfort foods from traditional Southern cuisine.

Me and little sis Libby 1st time visiting Dale's. We came after church for Sunday dinner (I cheated and didn't cook today). I ordered chicken dressing, purple hull peas, yams, and mac & cheese. The food was good but the banana puddding wasn't so good to me. It was a bit mushy and soggy.

Food is excellent and the price cannot be beat for what you get. I was able to feed my family of 6 (4 kids meals, 2 adult meals, 1 appetizer and drinks for all) for less than $50. I don't know many places where you can do that anymore. I'm excited to try them out for breakfast sometime.

First time at dales, I got the lunch special of half catfish and 3 sides. Catfish was amazing! 2 good, hearty catfish filets. Really good catfish and not too greasy. For my sides I got fried okra, Mac and cheese, and turnip greens. No doubt the greens were the best! Okra was too greasy but what can you expect? It's fried. Mac and cheese was nothing exciting either Overall good food and good service. Really big restaurant too I'll be back!

Wonderful Southern style food restaurant. Highly recommend it if you want a great vegetable plate with cornbread and iced tea. We were visiting in MS and flying in and out of Memphis and ate there both times we passed by Southaven! Between us on our 2 visits, my husband and I have tried the fried chicken, chicken fried steak, and the meatloaf. All were very good, but the Southern style vegetables and cornbread will have me returning whenever I pass by there again. On our first visit the server was below par, but our server on the second visit was really on top of things. So I'd say the service was average.

My daughter and I had a late lunch here last Thursday. We read the other reviews and some menu listings and decided this was the place or us. We got the meat & 3 entrees. We both agreed that mac and cheese is a veggie and were not disappointed (as I usually am with mac and cheese not made at home) everything was delicious and our waitress was great. I wished we lived closer!

This place very much has the homestyle country cookin' vibe. It is very family friendly and the place was very busy. I figured that was a good sign and maybe this place won't be so bad! I really enjoyed the southern style sweet tea and my table was served some dinner rolls and homemade cornbread muffins. They were very filling! For some reason, I didn't order a country dish and was craving something simple but spicy...so I ordered some buffalo style chicken fingers with ranch and french fries. Everything was very delicious, but they were super generous about that buffalo sauce! Next time I check out Dale's, I'll be sure to try some catfish or something else but either way, I was satisfied and the prices are decent.

This is a great place to go for true southern home cooking. This place is truly one of a kind. We had the pleasure to be waited on by a loyal 20 year waitress of Dales, named Stacey. The food was excellent and served with a smile. I will be going back and recommending Dales to all of my friends. One more thing, ask to be seated in Stacey's section for the complete feeling of southern food and southern hospitality!

Love it! If you want good home cooked southern food, this is the place to go. Every experience I've had had been great, both food and service wise. My personal favorite is their catfish and bashed squash , which I highly recommend. Also a fan of their meatloaf and country fried steak. There's nothing I've tried that hasn't been excellent.

Enjoyed my southern cooking here. Only been once, but it hit the spot. The lunch chicken and dressing was served with chicken gravy and cranberry sauce, and I had blackeyed peas, turnip greens, and candied yams. I inhaled everything except the yams - they were candied to the point of tasting like cobbler! A bit much. The cornbread and rolls were good, not great, but the dressing was awesome. I left a stuffed southern gal! I'll go back next time I'm near.

If you're looking for good down home cooking, Dale's is the place! I visited with my family of 5 on a Tuesday evening. We got excellent service even though the dining room was full. Appetizers, salads and entrees all came out at the right temp and tasted great. They even accommodated a "not on the menu" request with ease. Minus 1 star because it was cold in there! Let's say their air conditioner works really well. Overall a good experience. Will go back.

Good food and service, but I simply can't believe they still have a smoking section. It is a huge turn-off. I can guarantee that if they make it totally non-smoking, they will attract more non-smokers and business will increase. 5/8/13 - Reducing stars to one - second visit was absolutely horrible. Ordered a hamburger cooked medium. It looked done on the outside, but was completely raw in the middle. Second burger was ordered well-done and had the same results. Told them to forget it and left. Went to Sonic and had a good burger. It takes a really pathetic cook to screw up a hamburger. Twice in a row is unforgivable. No need to return to Dale's!

3 words: Chicken Fried Chicken!! I had enjoyed Dale's for years before discovering it. I don't know how they do it, but it's the most delicious fried chicken I have ever put in my mouth. They also cook up a yummy steak, just like my Dad used to cook em on the grill. Staff is friendly, the sweet tea is perfect (real important to a Southern gal in a town where lots of restaurants don't know how to make sweet tea!), and a favorite for my kids too! Not to mention, I can feed my family of 5 for $30 when we need a night out. One more thing, the baked sweet potato they just added to their menu is delish! You must try it with the butter and brown sugar sprinkled on. Wow, I think I just made myself hungry talking about Dale's.

We were in town on our way to visit family and read reviews and thought we ought to try it. WOW....let's just put it this way. The food and staff was so great that we purposely came back on our way back home just to stop a 2nd time. Their country fried chicken is so flavorful, moist and overall amazing. The sides are delicious as well. The cabbage is seasoned so wonderfully....subtle but flavorful. The mac and cheese, perfect! It wasn't too cheese...just right and not at all greasy as some can be. The service was supurb. It had a very family feel and although we were not locals, the 2nd time we came back a couple of days later, we saw our waitress and she had a big smile and welcomed us back. We had a different server the 2nd time who was just as attentive and friendly. Amazing food, incredible service, clean and comfortable atmosphere at very reasonable prices. This was our favorite stop on our 2300 mile road trip. Don't miss our on this gem!

Good for lunch, very close to home cooking. Get's crowded at lunch time, so beware and come early or be ready to wait.

The food is good home cooking and reasonably priced. Unfortunately we had slow food service time so when we finally got our meals we were full from waiting after eating rolls and a appetizer of corn nuggets. Approximate time between our appetizer and meal was about 40 minutes thus causing our loss of appetite by the time the entrees came. Overall this was a disappointing meal.

If you are ever near Stateline Road and you have a serious hankering for country home cooking, stop at the pink restaurant called Dale's. My best friend's family introduced me to Dale's years ago. They have daily meat and 3 specials and daily special veggie. My favorite meat is Chicken Fried Chicken (it's a crispy fried boneless chicken breast with white gravy on top). They have great veggies that are not canned and made fresh daily. Veggies include selections like mac and cheese, boiled cabbage, fried okra, candied yams, purple hull peas, mashed potatoes, cinnamon apples, coleslaw , baked squash, broccoli and cheese, and cream style corn. The meats offered include meatloaf, fried chicken, fried catfish, grilled catfish, chicken and dressing, chicken and dumplings, and hamburger steak. You can either get a meat and and 3 or a veggie plate. The prices go up slightly from lunch to dinner. It goes up from 5.99 to 6.79. The veggie choices on the weekends also vary slightly. Still, it's good and cheap. If you have any room for dessert, i would recommend the banana pudding or a piece of pie (coconut). Dale's can get busy so I recommend going to eat earlier than prime lunch and dinner times. It's not a chain and they have been in business for a while. So even if they are busy, Dale's will bring the grub out pretty fast. If you are not from the South and want to experience some good Southern style food, this is the place to go, ya'll.
