Great Southern cooking at a fair price. Any time I get an out of town visitor looking for a good local place to eat, we eat here.

I love this place. It has the best crawfish and sweet corn on the cob. The owner is super friendly. I'm surprise that no one has reviewed this place before. It's a hidden gem.

Old Timers Bar-B-Que

For Old Timers, I think I have to put this place in perspective of where it is along with how I'd rate the food. Hwy 49 doesn't have many good BBQ spots, but I'd say this is as good as you will find without going into Jackson. This isn't BBQ you would find at Leatha's in Hattiesburg or other joints in Memphis or St. Louis for the rest of the well traveled. So in that light, I'd give Old Timers 3 stars. I had the pork plate w beans and slaw. As for the pork you can see the smoke ring, great sign, but unfortunately its shaved, and not pulled pork. It makes a lot of difference in the taste and I think they lose a lot of flavor doing it that way. The beans were nothing special nor was the slaw, so those are just average. It does come with a toasted/buttered bun which was a good plus for me. But, If I were to rate this any other place, 2 stars tops. In a pinch this place will do.
Traveling through Jackson an saw lots of smoke coming from the smoke house an the parking lot packed. Stopped by an got some BBQ Pork, It was very good along with the baked beans. Stopped by on our way from Texas to Florida. An then stopped by again 12 days later on our way back. Rating: 1-5 Food: 5 Price: Good Food Portion: Good Cleanliness : 5 Next time I'm traveling through Jackson ill stop by both way.
I stopped by this place for lunch on a business trip to Jackson. This place is certainly the definition of hole in the wall. Its a very old building, but surprisingly clean inside. I picked up a BBQ pork sandwich with beans. It was shaved pork, which is not what I'm used to, but it was still pretty good. The BBQ sauce that they make is good, a bit vinegary though. It was definitely good enough to fix my craving for home style 'cue.

Good lunch on a Friday. Place was busy with locals on their lunch break but we were passing through in our motorhome. Walk up to order. Get food on tray. Fix your own drinks & add your sauce. Husband & I both had Big BBQ sandwich (pork) with fries and slaw. Everything had a good flavor but luke warm. Loved getting a free ice cream cone for dessert!
NO BEER?!? Who doesn't serve BBQ with beer.? Odd. The meal was very good. Hubby enjoyed BBQ salad. Very generous portions. Couldn't finish it. I had BBQ baked potato with chopped beef, again so much couldn't finish. We switched meals both agree very tasty. Good deal. PS I like to order with no sauce. I like to add my own. You can taste more of the smoke flavor.
different location but same results. tender meat but zero pit or smoke flavor. more smoke outside than in my pork plate. :/ saddens me because it's a cool place.

McAlister’s Deli

Reviews:
The owners of this McAllister restaurant have changed the food quantities to the point it's not even good anymore. Now if we go, we are forced to pay for extra meat. You will literally get two small slices of deli meat on a 5 inch hoagie. I wished they would have raised the prices of the food rather than lower the quality. The good news is the other local McAllister restaurants haven't done this so make the drive to Pearl.
Terrible example of McAlisters. SLOW service. Cold food. On this trip only the men's restroom was functional. Skip this location. Poorly managed.
Not a good experience: While traveling through Jackson, Ms we wanted to stop for a reliably good quick meal. We ordered our lunch and waited twenty minutes before inquiring about our order. We were told it would be out soon. We waited another 10 before I asked to speak to the manager. He was "too busy" to speak to me except to peek his head through the service window. He said they had run out if plates. Meanwhile, at least five or six others we asking the same question about their orders. After an additional 15 minutes our food came out cold. We muddled through our meals and still nothing from the manager, not even an I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Total waiting time...45 mins. Not acceptable!

Nice interior, good service, but wretched food. Salsa and chips were very good, but all downhill from there. First clue should have been the menu with over sixty items to choose from. Too many to do any well. Second was when my wife ordered a margarita and the waiter advised that it was the bottled version; not house made. Guacamole not fresh-made and too cold from the chiller it came from. I really like chile rellenos, but have learned to ask if they are fresh or frozen. This time I didn't, and suffered for it. Tough poblano, with an interior of white cheese whiz. Some of the cheese was still coagulated. I've never had refried beans in a puréed form before, but got it here. Rice was nondescript. My wife's chicken enchilada was OK, but the beef seemed to be taco meat without much seasoning. In fact, everything was under seasoned. Someone went to a lot of trouble to make this a pleasant place to eat. It's a shame the food doesn't rise to it.

McDonald’s

Reviews:
While the food was fresh, everything else about the place reminded me of poor hygiene. I am traveling so the first thing I want to do before I eat is go to the restroom & wash my hands. This was one of the grossest McDonald's restrooms I have ever seen. I had already stepped in what appeared to be a puddle of urine & could not step away without stepping in even more urine. I was disgusted so I just wanted to wash my hands & get out. There was a roll of paper towels on the countertop that I used to press the water on, then washed my hands only to find no towels in the dispenser. Oh! That's what the roll on the counter was for. Thankfully they had electric dryers that although they seemed finicky to start, dried my hands enough to finally leave. I ordered my family's food & sat in an area that seemed to be clean but the chair I had chosen was full of crumbs. There was a very nice employee in there cleaning but she did not offer to clean my table or chairs & after the bathroom debacle I decided without knowing where her rag came from - I'd settle for a dirty seat of my pants. The food was average to above average for McDonald's (pretty subjective) but overall I would definitely recommend others to steer clear of this place until you see some brave yelpers write some better reviews on their cleanliness. Good luck to you!
This was the worst service I have ever seen. We're a family of 5 and waited 30 minutes at which point my mother asked how long it was going to be and none of the employees had a clue. There were a ton of people waiting and to top it off the AC was not working increasing tensions even more. Whoever owns this place should be ashamed. Avoid this place at ALL costs.
Stopped after a long car ride with three small children, so they could get rid of some energy. Absolutely the worst service, worst attitude of any McDonald's I've ever been to. Will drive further next time and bypass this one. The play place wasn't worth it.

Terrible service! I've been here twice and both times had to wait in line for 20 minutes only to be told they had no food cooked and the wait would be even longer. We ended up leaving both times and going elsewhere. I would not ever go back to this location again.
