The map they show is not right. Cowboy Jim's is on Hwy 35. Take Hwy 84 west till you reach Hwy 35 then go south on it for maybe 1 mile. It's a darn good place to eat! 9/12/15 it's not what it was. Food has got to be a joke and over priced! We don't go there much anymore.

Silverware was dirty. My glass was dirty. Slow service. We waited over 2 hours for cold & tasteless food. The music was so loud that we could not hear what the waitress was saying. The food was most definitely not worth the wait. I do not understand why people would flock to this place.

We heard about this restaurant in both Mississippi Magazine and in Southern Living Magazine. We decided to give it a try and set out on the 70 mile trek to get there. The restaurant is in a really neat setting, being built right on the Bouie River, and is very attractive on the outside, with a rustic look and very well-kept landscaping. As an earlier reviewer mentioned, the restaurant section has a great western log home or "lodge" appearance. Due to the summer heat, we decided to sit inside in the A/C, but it would be really nice to visit during the fall/spring so outside dining could be enjoyed. The service was good and the food was good, but not noteworthy. Granted, we didn't have the steaks, for which they're supposed to be famous, so our food critique may not be fair in the minds of some people. However, the food we DID eat wasn't entirely what we were expecting. (NOTE: One thing they do have is AWESOME homemade ice cream........that was nearly worth the trip itself!) It was a fun trip and a nice experience, and while driving 70 miles for some restaurants is no big deal, I don't think we'd drive 140 miles round trip again for this one. However, if it were closer to us, we'd probably go every now and then for the atmosphere. They don't take credit cards. The atmosphere is really good, so I'd recommend you give it a try, and see if you find the food to be better than we did. Your experience may vary from ours.

Tonight was our first time at Cowboy Jim's, having heard of it through word of mouth. The atmosphere inside is eclectic with a rustic edge & yet somehow still has a touch of elegance. There's the outdoor patio, stylishly furnished, which one can eat overlooking the river. Which would be enjoyable on a cool fall evening. Our waiter Suzanne was great & very attentive. If you ever go, ask for her. I got the boiled shrimp (which are jumbo sized & amazingly good. The baked potato served with it was so as well.) No complaints there. We all loved the sweet tea too. There's even free homemade ice cream served on Thursdays. As you walk along the grounds, there are an assortment of animals. All ranging from chickens, rabbits, geese, cats etc. walking here & there. which is of course, ideal for animal lovers. Unfortunately the prices are misleading as their website menu advertises each item to be two dollars lower than it actually is on the menu in the restaurant. We were unaware of this & brought it to the attention of the girl at the register as we were paying, only to be told the menu online is "terribly outdated". Umm, shouldn't whoever is running the website be updating it frequently? Well, it's safe to say, we wont be coming back. But, other than that, it's still a nice place to go with an amazing atmosphere. Just be forewarned, the online menu prices are misleading.

Not sure what is going on here. Have been to Cowboy Jim's twice recently and things have changed for the worst. No more Prime Rib on the menu, smaller portions, the Rib Eyes are tough and chewy. Still great service. Was told by another patron that they have changed management. Too bad, they had a great thing going.

I've sat here trying to think of how to start this review. Over priced, underwhelmed, poor service, loud music, bland food.... Tonight was supposed to be an experience for my wife. She had never been to COWBOY Jim's before......and we won't be back. We arrived and was told there would be a wait. 6:10 pm. Why was there a wait? Hardly anyone in dining and one family in front of us. We were finally seated at 6:45. Our waitress arrived with food stuck all over her shirt which really looked like she had snot rockets shellacked to her shirt. We immediately gave our drink orders and ordered something from the kids menu for our child. 6:50. Our drinks finally arrived and the cups were extremely sticky. May have just been the solution used to wash the dishes...if they were washed. Speaking of that, my wife's utensils still had the food from the previous use on it. At 7:00 our daughters food arrived and we ordered our food. This place is known for their steaks so we assumed that we were in for a treat. Our waitress assured us on several occasions that our food was being brought out. At one point she came by and said that her flip flop broke so she would be a little bit. Sure hope she washed her hands after playing with her shoes and feet. At 8:20 our food finally arrived....1 hour and 20 minutes after it was ordered. Oh! kid had already finished her meal and was ready to go. My wife and I split a 1lb steak. Our steak arrived and it ended up being a maybe 6oz meat and 12oz pure fat. Her baked potato was rotten on one side as well. The steak was bland and just unappealing. We wanted to walk out, but I couldn't do that. Came very close though. During our wonderful nightmare of dinner we were privy to live music.yes, I may not be a teenager anymore or a college kid, but loud music doesn't really bother me. Every 10 minutes he would play celebrate good times...he would sing and it seemed to get louder and louder with every minute. With all that said, save your money or better yet...donate it to Extra Table or Edward Street Fellowship in Hattiesburg, MS. At least you will know that your money will go to good use.

This is one of those places you'll never find unless you hear about it from the locals, although there was a very nice write-up about it in "Southern Living Magazine" a while back. The steaks are just the very best! Tender with a great flavor. They also feature a seafood "Captain's Platter" which is awesome. From the outside the place looks like a barn, but landscaping, with lots of flowers, is very nice and the interior has a great Western log home appearance. It's built right on the river, so you can have your meal on the deck overlooking the river if you like. Live music/karaoke featuring mostly classic country music is usually being performed. Great service and friendly folks. Just be warned, they don't take credit cards! Cash only, although I did see mention of accepting checks. When was the last time you saw a restaurant that would take a check!?
