If you want quality, go to Sombra in Ridgeland(Highland Colony) or Babalu in Jackson(Fondren). But if you want a place where you can feel like your in Mexico and don't want the ticket of the previously stated, this is where you want to hit it. How do I say this... people don't come from out of the area to eat here. There are a dozen Mexican restaurants around the Metro Area that are just as good(if not better) than Pap's.

I thought this place was great. Came here when staying at the hotel just around the corner. I ordered the veggie fajitas and it was a huge thing of mushrooms, zucchini, squash, onions, etc. along with a big plate of rice, beans, salsa, sour cream, and guac. Super tasty, as were the chips and salsa.

I came to this place when they first opened and was more in love with the atmosphere than the food..3-4 years later(this year) the food is better than the atmosphere. Everything looks fine when I walked in but as I started to take a closer look I saw bench seats with holes and other issues. When we sat down at our first table, the bench rocked and the seat had tears. We moved to second seating area and I noticed a big hole in the wall. The queso, chimichanga, and margaritas were pretty good. I give the food and prices a four but this places really needs some renovations. Will not be returning.

Cool decor, huge food portions, classic "Mexican" food, and okay service. The waiters are a bit hands off and seem distant... But not enough for it to be a problem. The food is decent and you can expect leftovers.

First of all the decor is really cool. The atmosphere is fun and they provide sombreros to wear. If its your birthday, they smash a whip cream pie in your face! The menu offers everything and anything you would ever want to feed your mexican craving. The food on the other hand is less to be desired. There was 8 of us so I got to see a wide variety. We all took about 2-3 bites and that was enough. The steak fajitas were like over cooked grissle. I asked for no bell peppers and got a plate overflowing with them. The burrito, carne asada and quesadilla were all no good. The queso dip with meat and salsas, etc added came out cold. My draft beer tasted flat. We all agreed that we will never return. The bathroom walls were covered in profanity. My 10 year old daughter brought it to my attention:( See pics The host was a high school kid wearing his letterman jacket and walked up from the bar so we didnt even know he worked there at first. Its a shame because they place has potential if they figure out how to cook fresh food to order. The kitchen is failing them.

When they opened some 9 years ago it was very good, now it has really fallen off. The place is dirty and needs remodeling and a good cleaning. Some of the waiters are very sloppy and have dirty looking nails and it grosses me out to think they are touching my food. My wife's food tasted like dish washing detergent on one occasion. When we got home from one meal we both had explosive diarrhea. I called the manager but no real concern and also reported them to the health dept. I have stayed away since them. Diners beware!

I am a hardcore Mexican food fanatic. Specifically Tex-Mex food. Growing up in Texas, one has no choice but love Mexican food of any kind. I noticed Papitos last night as I was leaving the Urban 463 Grill. Thought I would give it a try. excellent chips and salsa. Ordered a few Dos Equis beers to start the meal. Ordered the chicken fajitas. The chicken was a bit overcooked and dry. Too much grilled bell pepper on the platter for my taste. Also asked for corn tortillas, got flour. Decided it wasn't worth the trouble to send them back. In short, the chips, salsa and beer are worth visiting this place. Will try a different entree next time I am working in the area.

My friend brought me here the night I arrived in Mississippi. She was talking about the chicken, rice, and cheese. It sounded soo good because I was hungry. We arrived, and got seated in a timely manner. It was almost 10PM, so I wasn't sure if they were still open. I guess they were because I got seated. The chips and salsa were very good. I ordered the Papito's Chicken and rice. Consists of only chicken in queso and rice. Very good!! Just writing this review, I want some more! The reason for only 3 stars? The service SUCKED ASS. I suppose they were closing soon, so the waiter didn't even bother asking me if I wanted dessert and just handed me the check. I told him I wanted dessert. I ordered the ice cream with Kahlua. He came back with fried ice cream. I told him I didn't order that. I wanted vanilla ice cream with Kahlua. He said they didn't have it. I said "it's on your menu, so how do you not have it?" Then I said, "I don't want that because that's not what I want. " I don't think he understood English. That's too bad because the food was very simple, and good but the service was bad. I don't believe he even came back to check on us, and just handed me the check. Food: 4 Stars Service: 1.5 Stars- no bueno.

There are a number of Mexican food places in Jackson with a few having better, though a much smaller selection, food than here. Those few, though, are really suited for grabbing some take out or sitting at a pretty small seating area, not really great for kids or more than 4 people. That said, as to the large, family friendly places in the area, this gets my top vote. I have never had a bad meal here. They make their own tortillas (at least the flour version, not sure about the corn, but maybe so), which is a huge plus for me. The chips and salsa are ok. The cheese dip used to be better, but it is still pretty good. What really garners the five stars is the whole experience. It is great to meet a group of friends here, the kids are welcome, there is some outdoor seating, the staff is nice. It is really a nice place to go with friends and family.

Decided to have dinner at Papitos Grill, while in Jackson, MS. Papitos Grill is a Mexican restaurant located in stripmall. It's a fairly good size place with a small bar, indoor & outdoor dine in options. It must have been the jet lag, because I think I just saw the word grill and decided to come here. Mexican wasn't at the top of my list - but since I was through the door - I was committed. Sat at the bar and it was small but nice. They only had 1 bartender and he was slammed the whole time I was there. I got my menu and looked though the options. They pretty much offer all of your standard fair Mexican food options. You're looking at Burritos, Tacos, Enchiladas, and Fajitas. Price range is moderate and you're looking at between $8 - $15 for entrees depending upon what you're feeling like. Since I was in the gulf, decided to make the most of it and got the shrimp and scallop fajitas. It was also happy hour and they were offer 2 for 1 16oz draft beer. They probably have about 6 - 8 different beers on tap and since I was in the south and having Mexican food - decided to get a Bud Light - with a lime. When I got my beef it was served to me in a large frozen margarita glass. Never had beer served to me like that - but WTF. My food took about 10 minutes to prepare. When I got it - I got a decent amount of fajitas along with a plate that had rice, beans, sour cream, and lettuce. The shrimp & scallop was a bit on the small side, but were seasoned nicely and since they had a nice sweet note to it - the spices and sweetness were quite nice. The also make fresh tortillas here and it was nice - though I do wish they gave more than 3 with the meal. The sides of beans were ok, the rice was bland, the lettuce out, and the guacamole - I guess living in California I'm spoiled, so it tasted like a bland green paste to me. In the end - cost me about $23 including tip. Not bad and got plenty of food. I never got chips, but that's ok not a big deal, probably could have skipped on the extra carbs. The service here including the bartender - well they tried to be friendly and do good service - but they were slammed and guessing they were understaffed that day. As to rating - it was ok. I wasn't blown away and I've had worst. So I would give Papitos a 3 star rating and say you could do a lot worse.
