This place was a breath of fresh air on the way back home to Texas from Gulf Shores, Alabama. We drove by the location on the way down to the beach and thought it was a very large church. After doing a little research we heard they had some great catfish and decided we would give it a shot on the ride home. The place is MASSIVE and when you walk up to the entrance there are the ten commandments next to huge wooden front doors. Upon walking through the doors there is christian music playing over the speakers and a very friendly staff waiting to serve you. If you don't like that part of it then you don't need to step foot in this place - but for me I thought it was a very creative, unique idea to add to a restaurant. The food is buffet style and they have great southern cooking. There is the typical salad line, fried food/veggies line and then a dessert line. The drinks are also served in a tin mug which gives a nice southern feel to the setting. All-in-all I am very glad we stopped by for a bite to eat and next time I ever am around the area I will be coming in for lunch or dinner again.

After reading the reviews & seeing them on CBS we decided to stop in on a trip 4/13/15. I order to go because we were in a rush. So I pay and she says it won't be long. But three loud Christian pop artist songs later I was starting to feel like I was at one of those contemporary churches. I guess I should have realized it might be a little out there. I will have to side with the Pope on that one. He said!! "Its not right for me but who am I to judge" I'll shorten this up; Food Review !! Fish-hot, good temp but tasted like a salt block. Slaw-was commercial but fair Hush Puppy's were not cooked through. (gooey) French Fries-good but commercial frozen

Great food, one of the best eating experiences we've had. Christian music and a real God glorifying place. May he continue to bless these good people.

Visited Berry's in McGee a week or so ago & loved the food & service, But just left 1 in Florence & it was terrible! We never saw our server -- finally asked someone for tea & was promptly told "I'll get it but I'm not your server !! Had to ask someone else for napkins (paper towels) & she just rudely told someone else to do it. Catfish tasted like it had been fried in burned or old oil & hush puppies were raw inside. Desserts and salad bar were mediocre, In order to get our check to leave, husband had to go find someone to write ii up ! We'll. never return to Florence! Bad news !!

Excellent home cooking buffet. We had Sunday lunch and were well pleased with our meal. The place was packed with locals. Their catfish was superb - nicely breaded and crispy. All the sides were deep south specialties - greens, butter beans, peas, scalloped potatoes, the works... The dessert bar was loaded with variety - pies, puddings, cakes, the gamut. I would recommend this place for real southern cooking.

Berry's has once again gained my trust. Next time your on a fast, and as you travel along highway 49 south of Jackson make sure to stop here. Granted, these two things will never happen at the same time but come anyway. Put down your iPhone and allow the 60ft windmill be your beacon. If your a night traveler, they have you covered as well, look for the 60ft cross illuminated against an otherwise bleak stretch of semi-developed road. When you get out, pause to take in the sheerly ostentatious scenery before you. It does not surround you, it engulfs you. These candid images will command not only your somber respect but will also compel your entry. O.k. hurry up and get in there before its all gone. Not so fast. Take a detour after you hover around your chair briefly (after all who actually wants to be "seated" properly at a buffet when you first come in?), fire off your drink order at the waitress, and frontally assault the seafood bar. Follow the detour to view an immaculate and ice-encrusted salad bar which boasts an array of garden delights the likes of which you have never seen...well you have seen one like this before I'm sure but who's counting? Bottom line- it is great and you will enhance your appetite with a light salad. On the way back, observe the Mayberry R.F.D. scene affixed to the ceiling. Look left and right and you fill find towering replicas of old-time grist mills while Berry's followers sit at the feet of them and reverentially eat their fried plates. Careful. Your not ready for the seafood yet. First observe the sirloin steak. It will peer back at you from its cavern of au jus [your best guess on its pronunciation]. It peers at you with a seriousness of a high-brow steak. I can reasonably assume that you have had steak on a buffet before because your contemplating going to Berry's. Moreover, you would not have read this far. Savor that steak. It seriously kicks ass. It pairs well with the sharp-cheddar cream macaroni and cheese. Now, have at it. You've been waiting for this for too long now. Approach the seafood bar with the eye of a hawk and the hand of a thief as you pile up a tower of golden fried: catfish fillets; quail (uh-huh you heard right); shrimp; and fries (crinkle-cut but you can't have it all in this life I guess). Don't get up. Ask the waitress for a whole-catfish. This is the extent of the secret menu at Berry's. You now need something to equal out the sodium and oil you just intravenously injected. I bet you guessed it- the desert bar. Cold pies, hot pies, cakes, chess squares, puddings, brownies, and hot pie cake brownie chess squares are all in reach. I suggest the hot bread pudding and hand churned homemade vanilla ice cream. A word of caution as you pluck yourself from your chair, somehow get to your feet, and waddle to the pay booth. The armed security guard looks like an actual constable. If you stumble too much, he may suggest you find a ride home. His suspicions will be right because your food high will last 12 more hours and the hangover for two more days.

The atmosphere is great, very unique. The service is good, the servers are attentive to patrons needs. The food is good but overall this experience will cost you. I personally feel you are paying for atmosphere more than quality of food, the food is just average. They do provide complementary biscuits and tomato gravy along with Cajun pickles.

To experience the south and its history in Mississippi you have to understand the relevance of the cross, a symbol maintained for some reason because it was an ancient Roman form of execution. Berry's has a 110 foot sized cross planned to be built on its property completing in 2015, approved by the city of Florence. This appears to appeal to the overly christian population of the Deep South. But moreso, it's a marketing ploy to compete with nearby Jerry's. Don't let the cross and the overbearing bible thumper music fool you. The all-fried seafood and catfîsh has no nutritional value either, so save your money and donate it to charity to feed the poor instead.

I would have given it 5 stars if the fried catfish was less salty. Otherwise, the food is fresh and good with variety. The decor is pleasant and interesting. The dining room and restroom is clean and spacious. Service is kind and helpful. They do have some of the best sweet tea of the south. If you want some of the best fried catfish I have ever had, go to Mendenhall, MS.

Good Lord, have mercy. I have never seen so much food -- and honestly, good food -- in one place. I am southern by origin, but I normally cannot stand an all you can eat bar. There were no shortage of overweight people here either, but at least the quality of the food made me feel better about my gluttony. I love fried catfish and fried shrimp, and I loved the fresh batter and taste of both on the food bar. I also loved the southern vegetables and the cornbread, which alone could have been a meal. My friend had a steak because he does not like seafood, and he claims that it is one of the best steaks he has ever had (and he specializes in steak). I can only eat at a place like this once a year, but this is certainly a good choice with its food and its quirky barn and cowboy atmosphere. It's like Chuck E. Cheese for Mississippi adults. Go.

The food here is excellent and the prices are fair. I'm an out of towner and had visited Berry's a few years ago when they were in a much smaller place. The food was great then too. I had a catfish platter which consisted of 5 pieces of catfish, French fries, and hush puppies, for just $12.95. I paid $1.95 extra for the salad and dessert bar. I read the reviews and the negative ones were aimed toward the Christian theme. They're in the process of raising a huge cross on the front lawn. There's a large display of the Ten Commandments outside the front door, and a large cross on the front of the building. You don't have to step a foot in the place to know its a Christian owned and operated business. My only complaint was the water cups. They are tin measuring mugs. If you put ice on tin the tin becomes ice cold even if it has a handle. I had to wrap paper towels around the handle because it was so cold. The restaurant is a large barn. I loved the rustic feel. It's huge. I went in a Friday night and the place was packed. It was quite loud in there but not so loud I couldn't have a conversation with my dinner mate.

The food here is pretty good - what you'd expect for a southern food buffet. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. However, the line for the buffet was literally 25 minutes. Since I had an abundance of time while waiting, I asked to speak to the manager. The waitress asked why and I explained that I thought it ridiculous to charge $22 a plate then make people wait in a line that long. She came back a little while later and said the manager had offered to "hold my place in line" while I went back and sat at my seat. He also remarked that the long line was because we were in a party of 80 (all of which had already gotten their food and were no longer in line). I can count on one hand the times I've complained to a manager or sent food back but this was one for the books. Save your money or go somewhere else, or bring a book to read in line.

This place has great food and plenty of it. It's a seafood buffet but they have plenty of other stuff as well. Granted most of it is fried and if you're a vegetarian you may as well stay home. The price is about right for the quality and amount of food available.

The atmosphere is great, staff friendly. The food is very good but expensive. Love the cajun pickles.

Absolutely the best show in town. The buffet is worth every dime. Good family oriented. The frog legs are my favorite. Get on 49 and get in line.

Berry's has always been a great place for the family to eat great seafood. The new restaurant is wonderful...same great food and staff!!! Great Christian music while you eat.

I've been to at least 200+ buffets in my years of business and have never been to one that is consistently good and fresh food like Berry's. the food and service is consistently great with responsive staff. Coming from a health background I worry about food staying hot enough while lying out and I've never had a complaint at either of their locations. The only thing I may change would be to play generic music instead of religious music.

Oh, update. There is now a 110 foot cross outside and they play Christian music while you eat. Seems a bit discriminatory, no? Oh well, the food was so terrible I'll never be back anyway. This is not a restaurant. It is an extension of the local Christian church apparently.

Lots of options on the buffet. Unfortunately, the line to wait for the food was very long. So much seating for such a small buffet line. Fried oysters and catfish were good. However, everything and I mean everything was very salty! They serve drinks in tin cups which are ice cold. Everything else was just average. The boiled shrimp were overlooked and the shells stuck to the shrimp. If you go, I would recommend ordering from the menu like all you can eat catfish and skip the buffet.

We randomly stopped here on our way to Florida with our kids. Prices are a little high, but our 3 year old are for $3. They charge a dollar per year under 4. Sweet tea was great. Seafood was fresh. Definitely a great place to eat. Will come back next time we are that way. Everyone that works there is really friendly. They do need to update their hours though. They are open all day unlike it says.

I didn't get it....How that place was as busy as it was.....charging $20 for sub-par "seafood". Catfish was bland and the popcorn shrimp was tasteless. It's as if a food trough like Ryan's opened up a seafood buffet....The Blue Bell ice cream was good though.

Berry's has delicious catfish, oysters, shrimp, crab legs and cole slaw! Their buffet is huge. The atmosphere is rustic and homey. The staff are friendly and seem to be very happy you stopped by! Stop by Berry's anytime you are headed south of Jackson on Hwy 49. You'll be humming and happy when you leave!

My husband and I ate there on our vacation. The food was so so and they overcharged us. The atmostphere was loud and the bathrooms were dirty. The table advertised a special on Thursday night for $11.99 and they charged us $19.99! Imagine our surprise when we where expecting to pay $30 and it was $50! Go somewhere else!
