The pork fried rice is great. We order it extra dark with extra onions. The best egg foo yung around. This is your typical family owned chinese restaurant. Nice lady runs the register and waits tables. They have a big take out business... Adding to my first review and another star. The eggrolls here are really good. Nice, big and fat so the wrapper to filling ratio is perfect. Well seasoned too. Rangoons are fullnof cream cheese and.....they have curry!!

Friendly, not expensive, below average. Everything is made the same way. THEY change the menus items from what was described, to whatever is cheep and passable. My beef with peapod had no peapod. The sauces are very bland, totally uninteresting. If you must go, the egg rolls are safe

Delicious food. The owner is running the place on her own so the service isn't amazing but she's very kind and tried to make everyone feel at home. Great food. Not expensive. We love this place.

If you're thinking of trying this place, simply adjust your expectations beforehand. If you're looking for flavorful and freshly cooked food (order from menu), then you'll have a good experience. If you are bothered by little things like family helping out in a restaurant business, then you may be unhappy here. I travel extensively for work (300+ nights in hotels each year, all across the country), so I get to eat at many different restaurants for comparison. If you compare this place to the plethora of other Chinese restaurants, Five Happiness is above average. I'm not saying it's spectacular, but it definitely is much better than the mediocre competition in the area. Service is prompt and friendly, based on wise planning of arriving before a rush begins. Food is hot and fresh, but courses are served a bit too soon before one has time to finish. It is what it is, but the bottom line remains this place is much better and really can't be compared to the food quality (or lack thereof) to any of the Chinese restaurants in Gulfport.

This is comfort food, not haute cuisine. It gets five stars as yummy food in a family atmosphere. The portions are huge - you may want to split an entree. The Special Dinner for one comes with a bowl of soup (not a little cup), a big egg roll, and a crab rangoon. It is served with fried rice unless you ask for steamed. The platter of an entree is about 10" x 7". Last night I had the Chicken Lo Mein and my husband had General Tso's Chicken. Both were good. The lo mein had the slightly smoky fragrance I associate with good lo mein and lots of tender chicken. This is a family restaurant and often mama is waitressing by herself so don't be shy! You can go get a to-go container or coke yourself if you want to speed things up. I disagree with a previous commenter--I come here once a year and it has always been clean. Tonight I had the Mongolian Beef. This is tender, tasty beef and onions in a mild brown sauce--very good. Dan had the Mandarin Chicken which is a huge serving of tempura-fried chicken breast with golden gravy on the side. I know there are still a few folks out there who are not used to Chinese food. Both of these dishes are a great place for you to start to try something new without going outside your comfort zone.

Delicious and generous. Came with family and there 'a s dinner or lunch special for everyone. Are until we were full with food to take home. Waiting is the proprietress and watching her , you learn how life should be lived- to the fullest, spreading goodness and joy, working hard. From out if town. But, will definitely come back if back again.

Never Again. The teenage kids are running the show--the OWNERS teenage kids. Went on a weeknight, HS boy "waited" on us. Or was it his 13 y/o-ish sister? If he wasn't on this I Phone, his sister was on her computer siting in booths at opposite ends of the restaurant. Never got water. Ordered green hot tea--standard tea bag in pot. Was asked several times in 5 minute span if we were ready to order--never been there before. Extensive menu. I had sweet & sour shrimp. Watery commercial red sweet & sour sauce. Very, very thin. A lot of batter, little shrimp that was pieces, not whole. Tasteless fried rice that was dirty shade of white, no veges. Couple pieces of egg. While waiting for food, saw waitress go to table that had left while we were waiting. When she couldn't find the tip, she picked up the two bowls of rice that accompanied the meal, and took them to the back. Nothing else. just the rice. I figured we got those bowls of cold rice served to us. She cleared the table sometime after we got served. I personally know Chinese restaurants that have been shut down for this exact thing. I can't say that she served us that, but it is a cultural thing. It is also illegal..if you get caught. In any event,it did not look good. All of the table should have been cleared at once in the bus pan. What would you think? My wife got a standard Shrimp Moo Goo Gai Pan. Lots of veges, typical clear sauce, "tasteless" as reported. If you do it right, this can be a wonderful dish--it's the sauce--learn it before you serve it! No to go box needed. People came in, people left. But the faces on the clients and the service left little for the imagination. This place is HORRIBLE. Unless you like inattentive teenagers serving you. The Mom had to literally serve us, because the kids were fighting between who was going to do it. Seriously, that is no lie. In the middle of the cafe, in front of about 4 tables. We had to go get our own check form the Mom at the register. Least we didn't have to leave a tip. Or didn't. Think before you go. And then spend the money to go to New Orleans if need be.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
