What a surprising delight! Many places around the KC area offer pleasant aesthetics & charm, but few offer that, fantastic customer service AND culinary delight. We were more than pleased all the way around. We were steered their direction by a local winery. Recently having moved here from CA, I had never been to Weston before. I will be forever grateful to the winery for calling the Vineyard to my attention. The service was above par. The restaurant was marginally full but the gal serving us had no problem spending time discussing our many options on the menu & a few that weren't. From what we could tell, the chef likes to experiment with different recipes & we really like that idea. We both ordered brunch items & champagne. A bottle was the way to go for $32 when 1 mimosa is $8. My boyfriend ordered a Braised Beef Omelet with Mushrooms Caramelized Onions and Smoked Gouda Cheese Served with Sautéed New Potatoes. The beef was super tender & the smoked gouda was amazing! It does seem like it could get a little warm but she did mention she was working on that. It looked like she had a few air conditioners installed. This is a very old building/house with lots of windows people so with that said, it could get a little warm. Knowing that...you may just have to get there early! ;-)

The food at the Vineyard restaurant is outstanding but the rest of my experience prevents me from wanting to return. I was with a small group one Sunday morning. We arrived promptly at the time of our reservation to an empty restaurant. Our hostess seated us next to the windows that face the street instead of the (dark) interior of the restaurant. While this may be delightful in the spring, in December the windows and the door to the tiny restaurant let in an uncomfortable chill. Soldiering on, we ordered our brunch items (all off the menu, nothing more exotic than sandwiches, eggs and the soup of the day) and waited for our meal to arrive. And waited. And waited. Having visited before we knew this was not a speedy restaurant, but it became almost comical. After the server refilled our water glasses for the third time I began to wonder if we would ever eat. At the 30 minute mark we were given bread and butter so cold it was un-spreadable. 25 minutes later our food arrived. My soup - which should have arrived with the bread - instead came with my turkey sandwich and small salad. The highlight of the meal was the in-shell clam chowder - delicate, thin, and simply outstanding. However, in the meantime my warm artisanal sandwich became congealed cheese on dry turkey. YUM. If I had taken any longer with my chowder and salad, the sandwich probably would have formed icicles. My dining companions agreed that the food was good but not great and certainly not worth almost an hour wait on a chilly porch. An additional word of caution for those who are less-than-spry: After finishing our meal, we each decided to visit the powder room. The restroom, like the kitchen, is at the bottom of some perilously steep stairs. Anyone with a balance problem would surely fall. Unfortunately, after 4 refills of water none of us could wait until our next stop. I'm not certain how this restaurant can claim to be handicap-accessible - at least to anyone not sitting on the back, outdoor patio.

We were directed toward this restaurant by many in Weston. The temperature inside the restaurant was not cool. The outside temperature was 109..............the restaurant had some air circulating from fans, but honestly it was stifling in every room. The salmon was good, but nothing to call thei location the 'best place to eat in the KC area'. I'd have to disagree. I felt the portions were OK, but the prices were not. I've had much better food and service at V Mertz in Omaha. I won't return to The Vineyard any day soon. It just isn't notable.

We were told about this lovely place during a vist to the local wineries in the area (Jowler Creek, Riverwood, and Pirtle), that it was a 4-star joint, with nice appeal. Well it was, and I really enjoyed everything from the atmospere to the food. Located directly accross the street from the Pirtle tasting rooms, it makes perfect sense to go across for a bite and glass of local grape. We sat in the sun room/front porch area, which faced out to the street, offering one of my favorite past times...people watching. The interior rooms of this small house turned restaurant, are sperated as they were when it was a residence I am sure, two or three tables per room make it very intimate a setting. A steep stairwell leads to the restrooms, and the back patio, which I am sure is nice when the weather permits. The menu reads like a high-end new American spot, but with very reasonable prices. Started off with a glass of the Alhambra from Pirtle, a full-bodied dry red. Since we weren't there for a full meal I opted for two small starters, the first being a delightful rosemary and red potato soup, just wonderful on that cold day. The chef also offered a daily rissoto veg otpion; that day it was butternut squash, wild mushroom...and the chef offered to through in some fresh spinach for me as well. An amazing dish, very creamy, but with a nice lightness to it all. Service was great, seems to be a real family affair as well, or at least I got that impression. If your in the area, and hunger for good food or wine...stop in for sure.

The Vinyard has possibly the best tasting steak I have ever had in my life (and I have had many). The Wagyu beef is extremely flavorful (Grilled to perfection) and the red wine reduction sauce they accompany it with is fantastic. If you are looking for the best Steak in KC (and yes, this is orders of magnitude better than Capital Grill and Plaza 3) then it is definitely worth the drive (approximately 45 minutes for KC). Unfortunately this is where my compliments stop. I am not one for the atmosphere. The building was built as a home in the late 1800's and as such, is extremely small and difficult to feel comfortable in. The tables are placed so close together that you feel cramped next to you fellow patrons. I prefer the ambiance of something similar to an upscale restaurant on the Plaza much more than the "quaint" feel of this restaurant. The service is also a little hit or miss. The waitress we had was great, friendly and prompt, but was also the only waitress in the restaurant (granted I believe that it only seats 15 or so), and as such just couldn't keep up with a place that is well staffed. Prices are not cheap by any means ($35 for the tenderloin) but compared to similar steakhouses downtown this really has some bang for your buck. If I was able to give a 4.5 star I would due to the overall feel of the restaurant but since I can't I have to give The Vineyard a 5 just due to the greatness of the steak.

Great food, personalized service from the owner. Lots of great items on the menu that have a unique and delicious twist. We were going to go to O'Malley's but after waiting in the reception area for about 15 minutes and never being acknowledged, decided to find another place. We are soooo glad we did!

A group of us decided that we would like to dine at The Vineyards in Weston MO. For days the day time temperature was in the mid 90's and the humidity felt the same. We drove from Kansas City to enjoy the atmosphere and the reported great food. We arrived parked and almost died from the heat as we walked from our car to the restaurant. When we arrived we found our table was not ready. When we entered the establishment the temperature INSIDE the place was in the 90's with fans blasting but no AC. We looked at one another and said we would wait a few minutes. We went outside to some tables and spotted 3 fans. We were very hot and the fans halped minimally. When someone came to get us to go inside we said we would eat outside. They said they had AC but it was very old. i should say that the AC was NON-EXISTENT. Based upon our order and delivery of the food we were once again disappointed. The Green Lipped Mussels were attaced to their shell by rubber bands and the mussels themselves had the elasticity of a rubber ball. They tasted plain, were difficult to chew and the sauce overthem did not complement them at all. I also had the Clam Chowder with Corn and Potato and it was very disappointing. The 'chowder' was some sort of milky sauce and the clams were still in their shells. Very tastless and not worth the trip. Another member of our party had the Tuscan Stuffed Chicken and it was absolutely bland except for the excessive amount of pepper on the chicken. After perspiring through the very below average dinner the mosquitoes began their bombing runs and we hastily paid our bill and ran to the cool comfort of our cars. To say the least, the air conditioned ride home was the high point of the evening. With no AC and a poor meal I would never return in the summer--or for that matter-- never at any time of the year.

This is probably the best place my wife and I have been to in the KC area in the past two years... and that's saying something. If you're accustomed to not much more than the typical American "the entree is everything" meal... you need to start here. The attention to detail on every single "side" dish is exquisite. The atmosphere is one of a kind. Tiny, quaint. Crooked Floors. Awesome. Fantastic experience all the way around.

The Vineyard was a great place to meet with friends an have a nice lunch before an outing in Weston. The service was great. They did their best to please everyone. I ordered a Sun-dried Tomato and Artichoke Melt. Such a treat with a (bit skimpy) portion of blue-cheese potato salad. I had a bite of the flourless chocolate cake that my friend had ordered. . O. M. flipping G. Wow! The cake was a like a huge Dove chocolate, only more decadent. The sandwich on point with the flavors and it was very well priced at $8. I hardly every mention the price in my reviews, but I was impressed that Vineyard was not trying to use that hint of pretentiousness to fleece their patrons. Vineyard is very unique from the house that they turned into a restaurant to the "ladder-stairs" that you have to use to find the restrooms. I am looking forward to my next visit and ordering some more of that very interesting blue cheese potato salad.

Stopped in for a quick lunch while visiting Weston from Indianapolis, the outdoor patio is a great place to sit weather permitting. Overall the food was great. Two of us shared the baked Brie, the salad with a crab ale added to it, and the goat cheese artichoke melt. This was plenty of food for two people and the goat cheese artichoke melt was delicious. The wait staff was a little slow getting us our check and food but it was an overall great experience. Highly recommend stopping in while in Weston.

Cute place for a romantic meal or girly lunch. Good wine selection. Waitress made good suggestions. Had chilled melon soup and quinoa couscous with shrimp. Small portions. Bread is boring. Lemon torte was ok. Kinda pricey, but probably some of the best food in Weston. Very old building, going to restrooms is like going down a ladder! Adorable spot to have wine with friends.

The Vineyard is one of only a couple establishments available for dinner in the small town of Weston, but it is certainly not one of those businesses that coasts by with mediocrity due to lack of competition. They feature a seasonal menu, small but appropriate for the intimate atmosphere. The food here is simple but generally well-executed. I felt like the ingredients were respected here, deliberately cooked so you could appreciate the natural flavors. My duck breast was cooked to a lovely medium-rare, well-balanced with a tart cherry compote, and lacking in any gamey flavor. The side of fresh squash was very lightly seasoned and really didn't need any more that - it was delicious just grilled on its own. The Korean braised short ribs were tender and had just enough fat left on it to add a subtle richness. My only gripe was that my risotto was incredibly unpleasant - it tasted as though some alcohol had not burned off in the cooking process and was inedible. Prices are on the steeper end (most entrees in the $20-25 range), but keep in mind you're paying for a wholesome meal plus ambience. Seasonal, farm-to-table cooking is all the rage now but I have seen more than enough restaurants in larger cities fail to do what The Vineyards does here. For that I think I can forgive some unpalatable risotto... The Vineyards exudes a sense of simplicity, ease, and freshness. Great for a relaxing end to a day trip in Weston.

This is a true hidden gem. If you are ever visiting the Ft. Leavenworth area, this is a must try location in the nearby town of Weston. The restaurant is located in an old house with creaky floors and home like decor...awesome! We went for lunch and there were only two other tables, so it was very nice quiet. The waitress greeted us immediately when we went in and sat us promptly. She recommended the Bruchetta sandwich. The other two people in y party ordered the Primavera Pasta and the steak. We did have a pretty log wait time, but it was worth it. I assume it was due to the steak. While we were writing we snacked on the homemade bread..yum. My sandwich was excellent, it was more like a hot Italian sandwich with pesto. I tried a bit of the pasta..omg..this is the best pasta ever...I will certainly get it next time. All in all, a great experience. I highly recommend trying them out. They are located right across the street from the winery.

Just took first place for worst meal I've ever had. Took forever to get bread to our table and when it finally got there, it was absolutely tasteless. Ordered a kale salad and paid an extra $3 for chicken on it. Didn't even get a whole chicken breast, the pine nuts weren't toasted and some of the kale was wilted. Only giving it one star because the water in my glass was cold. If you have a fairly refined palette, don't eat here.

My husband and I take an annual trip to Weston for our birthdays and dinner at The Vineyards is always a requirement which never disappoints. They have always been more than happy to accommodate a large group and don't make us feel rushed when we're the last people there and having so much fun we don't want to leave. The staff is always fantastic and this year we were lucky enough to have one of the owners Sherri (I apologize if I have her name wrong, a day of wine will make things a tad fuzzy) take care of us and she was nothing short of fabulous. After finding out it was my birthday she surprised me by sending me home with a to-go box gift of my favorite blue cheese and bacon risotto that wasn't even on the menu at that time. On top of the great service the food is absolutely amazing. I can't say enough good things about this wonderful restaurant.

This place is GREAT! We tried their Roasted Garlic Scallops and Honey Bread Pudding and it was amazing! Great wine menu! AND they have brunch with lots of different types of mimosas! My husband ordered their breakfast pizza which features fried eggs on top!! I ordered their banana rum pancakes...YUM!

A friend and I had just had a tasting at the winery across the street when we decided to go to the Vineyard Restaurant on a whim. Reservationless, we were seated outside on the back patio. The weather was perfect (a warm spring evening) and the patio was spacious and comfortable, with a view of both the winery and a brewery across the way. We were greeted immediately by a friendly server. My friend and I are both vegan and although they had no vegan options on the menu, the server suggested that we could order their salmon dish with tofu instead of fish. We immediately agreed to this, shocked that a restaurant in such a small town would even keep tofu stocked in their kitchen. Our beautiful salads arrived quickly and full of varied, colorful vegetables. The salad dressing had red chili in it which was unusual but very enjoyable and gave it just the smallest amount of heat. Our meals arrived in a reasonable amount of time, served artfully on a wooden plank. The tofu was very fresh and delicious and was piled with grilled vegetables including perfectly crisp asparagus. The conversation that I'd been having with my friend up to the point that we were served our food went the wayside and instead we spent the rest of our mealtime fawning over the food. As the sun went down a very light rain started to fall but before even a few drops had hit our table our server arrived with a candle and moved a large patio umbrella over our heads. We were very charmed by our entire experience and enjoyed our food so much that we asked to meet with the chef to express our thanks that they customized their menu offering for us. In doing so we got to see the small but very clean and well-organized kitchen. The chef and her assistant were very friendly and warm and welcomed us back with promises of more vegan options if given a little notice. I am looking forward to returning.

The Vineyards has never disappointed. Called last minute to grab a quick dinner and they squeezed us in. Service and food were excellent. We started with a potato soup that was very light in broth and small bits of potatoes that settled in the bottom of the cup. Wonderful light flavoring. I ordered the chicken and mushroom risotto. Risotto was cooked perfectly and it let the mushroom and chicken flavor really come thru. The outcome was a wonderful creamy burst of yum in every bite. We took a bottle of Pirtles Alhambra wine with us that complimented both of our meals. The Vineyards will not charge a corking fee if you bring in a local wine. If you forget - Pirtles is right across the street so you can grab a botle. Don't ask for the Alhambra as they no longer bottle it but wait - ask and maybe they will reconsider (hint hint Scott)

I am only giving one star as it will not let me give zero stars. The wine was excellent, Pirtle Winery wines are served here and it's located across the street (definitely check it out!). As far as the food it left little to be desired. We waited 40 minutes for our appetizers - mussels, crab cake, and potato & rosemary soup. Crab cake was excellent (I guess it deserves the 1 star after all) with a tasty aioli. The soup was literally watery cream with a potato. As someone who is a native Mainer (and seafood freak) I was severely shocked at how tough the mussels were and how we were served three mussels that hadn't opened - the sauce they were in was really tasty though. Perfect for dipping our stale bread in. My husband and I were having a good laugh about our misfortune since we dont get to go on dates much but after waiting another 35 minutes for dinner- and being offered dessert by another waitress - we had had enough. Oh, but how was dinner? Delicious duck with a disgusting risotto (and I LOVE risotto). My husband was served raw lamb with a side of burnt polenta and a really yummy blackberry thyme syrup. They offered to "re-fire" the lamb, which of course we accepted. They brought it back still raw (at this point my husband was starving) and then offered to Comp us ONE glass of wine for the poor dinner. Funny, I would think you would comp the $26 lamb that he didn't even eat. Maybe we went on a bad night? The waitress kept explaining that they had 46 seats and only a 6 burner has stove. My advice would be to get a bigger stove if you want to have a restaurant open on a Saturday night.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
