Stopped by for a quick lunch. Have been many times in my youth and figured I'd see if they stood up today. First of all my server was amazing. Lots of smiles, quick on the requests, and just overall very good. Food was ok. Cheese on the fries was pretty chemically. Not that nacho cheese isn't but this stuff was up their on the Periodic Table of Elements. Ruben burger with sauce was ok. Meat was juicy but needed a bit more brown time to get that flat top flavor. Not horrible but not winning any ribbons today. Mangers. Managers are easy to spot thanks to their different colored shirts, neck ties, and badges. So if you are that person you probably make a few extra bucks. Your pants shouldn't be so long that they cover your shoes like filthy messy booties. Be the example.

You can tell a lot about any establishment by the way they treat their employees. While the S&S product is middle of the road, service is fast albeit often stoic, witnessing the treatment of an employee trying to talk to a S&S leader about a life event that impacted them says a lot about the company and culture. I prefer to spend my money at restaurants that are less draconian and more human.

Disappointment. Yup, that about sums it up. So my hype about how great this place is from the tasty looking TV commercials to the others in my graduate program But you know what? It's an over priced small hamburger with average french fries. The milkshake was good, but I would expect nothing less for $4. The total cost of the meal ends up being at least $7 and can be as high as $12 not to mention that you have to tip despite that you will hardly see your waitress. It's McDonald's meets Chile's and they both lost. If you just have a hankering to try it like I did... great, get it out of your system. But for the money, you could do better. Oddly, most other people seem to like it more than I did but they agree it's a little pricey for what you get. Also, I've never waited for a table here if this tells you anything.

The daytime crew is amazing, but the late afternoon/late evening crew is rude and annoying. I frequent this place as that I work next door. When the daytime crew sees me, they have everything ready to go and are super cheerful. The late afternoon crew ignores me and slacks off.

This is the Steak & Shake on Glenstone, close to Empire Bank and the old Osco store. I took a friend here to celebrate her graduation and she loved it. She'd never been to a Steak & Shake before, and she's ready to become a regular! Who isn't?

This place rocked. The waiter was awesome. It was super kid friendly. They got our order right the first time. Can't really tell you how the food was. I was to busy feeding baby and cutting the other 2 kids food. But they seemed very happy. Price is so cheap compared to NYC food lol

We have been here a number of time over the years. Everytime we have eaten in the restaurant the meal has been acceptable. So here my drive thru story. Went there about 10pm for a late dinner. I ordered the Frisco Melt meal with Frisco sauce on the side. Wife got some burger with jalepenos on it. Also ordered a small strawberry milkshake. There was one car in front of us and the inside was not busy at all, so we thought we may not have to wait that long. Now I know this is not McDonald's so we are willing to wait a little longer at a place like this in line. 20 minutes go by, and the car in front of us is finally given a little bag of food. YAY! we were next. Pulled up and the person at the window went AWOL. Did not see them for five minutes. Finally got to the window and took our money. He said it would be just a little longer so "your food will be fresh" (his actual statement). By this point I am getting pissed, thinking I could have already eaten a whole meal by now. Five minutes after that he comes to the window and basically throws our food out of the window without so much as a thank you, turns and walks away. Checked the food. No Frisco sauce, and you cannot have a Frisco melt without it. So I sit at the window trying to get this kids attention. His back is toward me. Honk the horn....nothing. He finally turns around....we lock eyes and I wave him over. Freakin turns back around and starts doing a little dance while talking to a cook....nothing. Getting more pissed. Finally I reach out a bang on the window so loud I could have broken it. Does not even turn around. By this time I am fuming. Hit the gas an squealed all the way back around to the ordering station. I yell at the speaker box probably 3 times HEY!. Finally answers and I say that I ordered Frisco sauce on the side and did not get it and that I had been at the window yelling at him to turn the F around. "K....pull forward"...is all I received. The little punk finishes his conversation with the cook before he gets a little cup if the sauce. Basically throws it at me again and shuts the window while I am asking if he is stupid or something. I finally speed off again. Then I get home five minutes later The Frisco melt's bread was rock hard. I mean break you tooth hard and stale and my god...was it cold. Didn't not even need the sauce that caused me so many problems because I could not eat the food. Fries were just as cold and inedible. My wife's burger was called the "worst bite she had ever taken". Same deal cold and stale, and had a taste she described as "bleachy". She threw it away with the rest of our food. And what about the milkshake you ask? Well I realized that I was so mad that I forgot we had ordered it. Of course we were charged for it, but we were not given it. So $20 later, and we ordered a freaking pizza. Also called to talk to the manager, "Just a second". Ten minutes later and I hung up. At that point I just let it go, or there would have been a dead Steak & Shake worker, and my four-year-old kid saying "My daddy lives in a big white bouncy house, with a coat that hugs him". Did not even try to get a refund because I would not want to guess what that would entail. Never again....never again. I can't be mad at the dumb kid working the drive thru, because hey, he is a result of a really, really bad manager, who lets this crap happen. Shame on that idiot of a manager whomever he/she is Two stars for the couple of times before that was ok. Longest Yelp ever for the worst meal ever.

My family and I have been here several times, both in the store dining and using the drive thru. If you have the time to go in and sit down to eat I would suggest that. We have never had a negative experience dining at the restaurant. However, every experience we have had through the drive thru has been horrible. The burgers will be so greasy that you can squeeze it out all over the place. My youngest son is a hamburger-a-holic, but it was so bad that he would not even eat it. When visiting the drive thru I have experienced rude service, been over charged, horrid food and super long waits. My kids convinced me last night to give them one more shot, and it will be the last. Again, rude service both while ordering and while waiting for our food. We tried out the new shooters, which ended up being about the size of a half dollar each, totally not worth the price. The fries were old, stale and cold by the time we received them, and my patty melt looked like a 5 year old put it together. I did however give the place two stars instead of just one, because as I previously stated if you go inside the food will be good and the service friendly. I just feel I should not have to go in and bait employees with the possibility of a tip to get them to do their jobs.
