Papa Jake’s Donut Shop

I lived less than a block away from Papa Jake's for several years, and the smells of the freshly fried donuts at 3:30 am would wake me up. Best glazed donut I've ever had, bar none. Krispy Kreme might beat them for volume and efficiency, but nobody beats a Papa Jake's glazed donut.

A well appointed restaurant with a good historical story. I do not recommend coming on a hot day, because when the air conditioner kicks on it feels like a wind tunnel. The servers are college girls who try hard but are poorly trained. The hostess is over 70 and rarely at her station, and I saw her eating out of a bowl. Very inappropriate for an upscale restaurant. I had the prime rib special on a weeknight, which is their Saturday night special. It was cooked right, but a very poor cut of meat, akin to a truck stop restaurant or low end Las Vegas buffet. When I questioned the waitress, she said it was a different cut of meat than their Saturday night prime rib, and that was why. A little late with the explanation. I was even more put off when the chef came out of the kitchen to visit with the table next to me. He had no passion, and sounded ambivalent about his offerings for the evening. If you want upscale in Sedalia, go to McGrath's. There is no comparison.
Great atmosphere and great food. Located in the Hotel Bothwell in historic downtown Sedalia, this restaurant offers relaxed atmosphere with soft ragtime music. Definitely worth a visit.
I've eaten here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. The service is very good, the decor nice...retro, in the "restored" sense. Food is pretty darn good. Not great, but very decent. I'd prefer a 3 1/2 rating, if it was available. I'll be back. Definitely Sedalia's best eatery. Let's keep them in business, OK?

We've been going to this place for nearly 11 years since moving here. We used to go once per week but now it seems that the place always reaks of cigarette smoke. Fridays and Saturdays are very busy and insanely loud. We aren't partiers, so we go on a weeknight to get our occasional fix. I just wish they would get bigger fans or something to suck out the cigarette smoke. The last time we were there was on a Monday night and we were the only people eating. There were 2 other people sitting at the bar on the opposite end of the building but we still left smelling like an ashtray. It's too bad really, because the food is really good.

Do not fear the lack of full parking lot. The food is fine. Even good. Its Mexican food and they have not messed it up.

I give it 3.5 my kids 4 stars. The place is very clean and staff friendly. We stopped off with our kids and the cowboy platter was more than they could split. Chicken strips were good. I highly recommend the club sandwich. All the meat was delicious. The chicken wrap was good. Lots of drinks specials. Beers $2.00. The prices are reasonable. I'm sure if you looking for a night out in Sedalia or passing through to the lake this is a great option.

Casey's Pizza is very good, most people in our area realize and agree with that statement. Considering you can stop at most Casey's gas stations and purchase: 1 slice of pizza and a Large Drink for $2.50 is great! I was a "guy on the go" in central MO, I will say that Casey's was a staple. No matter which store I stopped at, it was above the national chains when I came to taste! I loved being able to order slice by slice and combo that with a drink! I'll break it down this way: 1: (Route Drivers) I loved knowing I could stop in at any Casey's Pizza and get a great slice for cheap! 2: my first Casey's Pizza experience.....I'm not going to lie... I was hung over as hell... We found a Casey's Pizza, and I have bee in LOVE ever since!

Good food . But a little pricey
it used to be good a few yers ago. now the quality went down and the prices went up. in short, it sucked. we will not go back.
This place might be a chain but it has local flavor because of the staff. It was a GREAT breakfast experience, worth waiting for. Literally. We walked in to a line of about 15 people in front of us. That kind of line told us to stay and see how good it was. Both my wife and I ate a full huge breakfast plus coffee, drinks, etc for around 20 bucks. Very reasonable for any kind of country restaurant. The food quality was EXCELLENT. Portions were very healthy. Service was absolutely stellar. Everyone was very friendly and even in the rush of apparently a huge morning and missing three workers that morning who recently quit, they were very chipper and happy to talk. It was a good experience that will send me back any time and to any others i see elsewhere. I ordered the big barn breakfast or something like that. Four eggs, meat, hashbrowns, toast. My wife tried a skillet. We heartily recommend ALL their skillets. The one we tried was excellent and the tables around us looked good too.

Not bad at all! Traveling through for business and had to stay over night in Sedalia. Good enviroment, great food and Great prices! I ate like a champ for less than $15. Seriously, I had a chicken burrito, and an enchilada with the fixings along with chips and dip. Had a mega mug of dos equis XX with my meal as well, only $3.75, ha-ha I'm from a city and $3.75 gets you a 16oz bottle, not a half pitcher! Total bill was $13.73! Go for it! The people complaining about this place must have came on an off night- that or I did, I guess. I'd try it again.
Two words, Pollo Bandito. El Espolon is pretty straight forward Mexican food. Not bad but also nothing mind blowing or anything. So imagine a good Mexican restaurant and you are on the right track. They've got all the things you'd generally expect, etc. I wasn't blown away by the salsa or chips but they were both fine and free (I know that SHOULD be a given but I've been to a Mexican restaurant where you had to pay which is RIGHT OUT). I had been told to try the Pollo Bandito. I was not disappointed AT ALL. The chicken was all well cooked and moist and drenched in a really delicious cheese sauce. It was EXCELLENT. I don't do beans so have nothing to say on them, the rice was good. Service was good. They were on top of drinks and were very nice. The food was on the table very quickly.
I was unsure about El Espolo because of the mixed reviews. It was a good meal with courteous staff. I had a beef chimi plate.. too much food but good. My companions had an enchilada, taco and tamale, all good sized and packed with meat. Thumbs, up!
