Great place! Fabulous atmosphere! Delicious food! Cant go wrong with anything on the menu! My favorite server was Rob. Very knowledgeable about the menu, quick and on point! If you get the chance to come here ask for Rob!! Great date night, family atmosphere, bar to watch the games or rent out a room, perfect for any occasion!

Saturday afternoon - Missouri game on place was hopping. Food: Maytag chips - very good. They aren't cheap with the blue cheese so if you are a blue cheese fan, you will like these. Crab Bisque - Friday and Saturdays only - excellent. Saturday $7.00 menu. Pulled pork and fries. This is the best value in town. Comes topped with onion straws ( these were a "side" themselves - large portion). There are other things on the $7.00 menu as well. Bread pudding was great. The strawberry rhubarb cobbler not so good. Soggy and mushy. Service was spot on (Justin) - no waiting around on refills - great attentive service. This place is a staple for good food. Fall and Winter I will be here every Saturday. Coke products. Restrooms were clean and well maintained.

We have tried Nick & Jake's twice now and both times we were impressed. The first time we ordered take out- the Pulled Pork Sandwich and the Chicken Pot Pie. The bartender who managed our order was extremely friendly and helpful - the pulled pork was excellent and the chicken pot pie was bigger than expected, was tasty but not healthy by any means! Last weekend we tried the Sunday Brunch, the service wasn't the best (as we have found throughout Kansas City) but the brunch spread was impressive - omelete station, prime rib, a plethora of breakfast & lunch items - the only gripe being the items weren't refreshed by the time we arrived at 1pm - a few of the items were luke warm or cold. Overall worth a visit!

I am a newcomer to this area and to Nick & Jakes. Since my move I have been here several times and it never ceases to please. The service is consistently very good, and everything (so far) on and off the menu have been excellent. They are very good at accomodating large groups (8 to 10) with short or no notice. Definietly a keeper.

We've eaten at N&J for years and never had a bad meal. We love their appetizers, bruschetta, ahi, BBQ shrimp & grits and maytag chips especially. Lots of salad choices and all are good. We like the $7 lunch on Saturdays that includes salads and sandwiches. One of the best filets N. of the river. Several favorites include the chicken pot pie, chicken with gouda sauce and chicken marsala. They do a great job with larger parties and always have excellent servers. The Sunday brunch is good too.

My family and I have eaten at Nick & Jake's over 40 times in the last six years. It is awesome. Virtually everything on the menu is good. They have a great happy hour special--half price appetizers from 3-6pm every day. The atmosphere is friendly. The Sunday brunch is fabulous. A few of my favorite menu items: Grandmas chicken (I saw a negative review of this, which is mind blowing to me) Smoky chicken pasta Nicks salad Italian chop salad Buffalo chicken salad Pulled pork sandwich

First time being here and our waitress was nice and the food was delicious. Most likely be returning for another go around.

Cool neighborhood place... The Irish nachos are sooo good! They are fried potatoes covered in cheese and bacon and green onions. I would get that every time I come. They have nice outdoor seating and TVs so you can watch the game. Staff is also friendly and they have reverse happy hour that I would come back for. Might be a new fave hangout. I need to come here more often!

This is a family go to, always good food and good service. Go for the Sunday brunch, you won't be disappointed! The blue cheese chips appetizer is excellent and I can trimmed the pork tenderloin sandwich. If it matters they treat the kids well with a little cheese plate and nice meal offerings including steak.

Had a wonderful dinner tonite. Chris suggested the Caprese Salad Special featuring locally sourced heirloom tomatoes. Outstanding! Also enjoyed the Pear, Pollo, Pecan salad main course and my wife was well pleased with the Poached Salmon. Consistently find very good food and friendly service here. Price for two is usually about a $10 premium to many venues which offer generic plates. This is a long standing fave of ours.

I'm super happy to report that Nick & Jake's is back in my good graces! They are awesome when it comes to kids. They bring a cracker, cheese & grapes tray to the kiddos free of charge which is amazing and keeps my 3 year old busy while we order (drink beer). Their happy hour specials are great! Half off all small plates & starters! The Tenderloin sliders are awesome. However, I'm always privy to the quesadillas because of the gouda cheese. They are to die for. Lastly, if you really want to go for the food coma, get the blackened chicken carbonara. It is so delicious you will need to go home and roll around on the floor for at least an hour. Finish it off with the strawberry rhubarb cobbler and heaven awaits.

I had the pulled pork slilders again at the Plaza location recently, and I have NONE better. Incredible. For a non-bbq restaurant they certainly know what they're doing. I'll be back!

Top notch - well ran. Great food, great ambiance for the game or for a date. No real negatives other than parking when busy.

I have not had anything on their menu that was anything less than quality, I did have the California Chicken once that was overcooked but it was still good and the manager gave us a $25 gift card with his apologies. We visit at least once per week.

  • Melissa N.

We have tried several things off the menu including Grandma's Chicken, the maple bourbon salmon, ribs, steak, crab cakes and fish and chips. Their jalapeño grits are amazing...a little heat and a lot of flavor! The only thing we have thought could be better was the French fries. Even our kids, 9 & 5 love eating here. My husband has a special fondness for their bread pudding!

This place is one of my go to staples for good american cuisine. Prices are reasonable, has a good atmosphere, convenient location for me, good beer selection. Its like a classier version of 54th street

Good food for a dinner with the family or if you want to drop in for an appetizer and drink in the bar. Sunday brunch is also great (especially with the amazing Roasterie coffee).

Lobster Mac and cheese. Asian chicken salad. Salmon encrusted with crab and risotto. All were OUTSTANDING. GREAT FOOD IN A CASUAL SETTING.

Twice in one week! Turkey burger was one of the best I've ever had. Cheddar jalapeno grits caught my attention since I've never liked grits. Ordered them, tried, them, destroyed them. Smokey chicken pasta was the casualty on the second visit (ordered more grits on the side). The corn and bacon hash was awesome, chicken perfect, and again, not disappointed. Service was very friendly and helpful. Thanks for raising the bar, guys!

Very kid-friendly place with always prompt and courteous service plus the food is good and lots of variety. They bring kids a small plate of cheese, grapes and crackers and even though they didn't have vanilla shakes on the menu our server had two made up for our little girls. Relaxed atmosphere and the service has always been great.

I was solo for the night so I sat at the bar. They people around me were incredibly adorable. The bartender asked me my name before she started my tab which was a nice personal touch. She also, politely and passionately, walked me through her favorites on the menu in each category. I had wanted to hear someone else's opinions because I was by far overwhelmed by all the delicious choices. Sadly, after I had my food I got ignored a bit. The bartender did return (much) later to ask if I wanted some dessert. She again pleasantly helped me make a decision. So, overall, service = B. Foodwise, I ended up with the chicken quesadillas. The red onion marmalade and smoked gouda combo was INSANE. I was glad I had the whole plate to myself. Happy camper I was. Then, dessert happened, and the chocolate cake made my day. And I was already having a sweet, super day to begin with. Food = A.

Outstanding! This was my first time and It was excellent. I got the weekly special burger. The patty was beef and sausage, great idea, not to mention It had Mozzarella sticks and marinara sauce and pepperoni! We sat outside, it seems to be a pretty popular place to smoke but the decor outside is classy and cozy, plus the Royals game was on outside too! I will confirm inside is no smoking. Waiter was nice! As a matter of fact... about 5 to 10 minutes after our food came out he brought more fries. He said his manager thought there wasn't enough fries on our original plates. We thought it was fine but who argues with extra fries?!

    (5)
  • Jackee L.

O.M.G. No, I'm not just a stereotypical teenage girl, thats actually the name of the burger I got here. And let me tell you, half way through that monster burger, I understood its namesake. Through this whole thing I was literally moaning- yes, MOANING- "Oh my God!". The pulled pork was some of the best I've ever had, but that could be because of my lack of interest in BBQ. The patty was moist, but not under cooked. The Chipotle mayo had just the right bite to not hinder me from continuing to eat. And while the food was great, I have to say, I was rather impressed with the service. When the food came out, I was shocked by the lack of fries. I mean, for $11, I should get a good portion, right? Well, halfway through the meal, our waiter came out with a full heap of steaming fries, and told us that the manager didn't feel like we got enough, and these were without charge. I was actually in shock. I feel bad that we didn't eat them all, truly. All in all, you gotta come. It's worth the price.

Nick & Jakes always hits the spot! Ribs, steak, quesadilla, salad, appetizers, shrimp and grits - you name it, they're doing it right! They put their own twist on each dish so it's never boring so you honestly can't go wrong regardless of what you order. It's a great spot with lots of seating options. The dining side to the left is calm and mellow with dark toned walls and dimmed lighting. The bar side on the right is boisterous but not overwhelming with plenty of TVs for entertainment. They also have a semi private room for larger groups that looks like a living/rec room. The service is outstanding as well. They are always very friendly and have given great suggestions on which dishes to pick (since it's tough to decide when you know it's all delicious!)

Well Nick & Jakes...you've redeemed yourself. Today was Mother's Day and my hubby made reservations here, even though we haven't been here in a very long time. I will be honest. I wasn't extremely excited. But go with the flow I did...and put on a happy face. We arrived early. A huge line greeted us. We checked in, were whisked to our waiting reserved table and were seated within 2 minutes upon arrival. Impressive. Today N&J's was an extremely well oiled machine. Food was continuously brought out hot, quick and regularly. Items were fresh and tasty! Just like the old Nick & Jakes that we remembered from ghosts of restaurants past! I was a very pleased mama today. This means we may have to go back again and give them another shot at dinner. I hope today wasn't a fluke. But I definitely left with a much better impression. Note to waiters/head waiters/staff: I know it was busy today, but early in the morning for breakfast/brunch, when your day is just starting, try to crack a smile. ;)

This is a great place to go to lunch. Especially if you work and are on a tight schedule. Fast and friendly service. Today I had The Cuban sandwich with chips. This sandwich consist of pork loin, pit ham, mustard, mayo, mozzarella, Swiss, pickles, all on a tasted hoagie. Chips were fresh and made in house. As you can see by the picture I did not leave hungry.

Came this past weekend for brunch with my grandparents since it's one of their favorite places in Parkville and I can definitely see why. We decided to order off the menu instead of doing the brunch since we didn't want to eat ourselves into a food coma. Everything smelled and looked fantastic though on the buffet. I opted for the asian chicken salad (luckily I got the 1/2 because it was quite large!), Grandma got the bruschetta and a cup of crab bisque and Grandpa got the ribs. Although it was funny to have a mimosa at breakfast, the grandparents were all for a beer and glass of wine with their meal also. The quick service, yummy food and good vibes made for a nice meal. If I would have checked out the bar area, I'm sure it would have brought the review to a 5... Ah well- always next time!

**Great place for families and groups** Nick and Jake's became our go-to while living in the area for a year. This joint has it all: consistently fantastic service, wonderful flavor profiles, reasonable price range, very clean, etc., etc. All these things aside, the biggest draw for our family was how easy it was to bring our small children and still enjoy a meal. Before even having your order taken an angel from heaven brings your little m*nster a snack plate with grapes, cheese and oyster crackers. Need I say more? In addition to that, their booths are huge and you can call ahead and put your name on the list on busy nights. In case you can't tell, we heart Nick & Jake's!

There is NO place in KC that offers a better brunch than Nick and Jake's in Parkville. When we decide to do brunch this is our choice 99.9% of the time. I'm not a buffet person nor am I really big on hot breakfasts so it is hard to find a good place that can offer past that. Their buffet is small and consistently on point. Their lunch items are the best! Fantastic chicken strips!! The bread pudding and vanilla anglaise sauce is phenomenal! Service is always good as well!

  • Dionne R.

Have enjoyed lunch and dinner here in the past, but this weekend tried to brunch for the first time ever. It was a delicious, perfect since we had out of town guests with us. There was something for everyone on the buffet. I'm partial to a custom omelet since it doesn't mean I have to fix it. Others in our group really enjoyed the grits and sausages. The desserts were a hit too.

Stumbled upon this place on my way to the airport and am certainly glad I did. Annie, the bartender, suggested some happy hour appetizers and wow! The jalapeno bacon cheese grits and the irish nachos were fantastic. The manager that delivered my food was so kind and cheery. I could tell the people here love their job. I am flying home full and happy.

  • Nick J.

My fiancée and I dined here for the first time. The bruschetta was great. I really enjoyed my "OMG" burger, the competing flavors of Burger, pulled pork, and Chipotle Mayo worked really well together. She liked the Caesar salad, however wasn't crazy about the add-on Calamari. It was a very busy night, but our service was still great. It was a little pricey, but not outrageously so.

Last minute stop for a late lunch on Sunday. Missed the buffet, but the meal was very good. Very friendly staff. Shared the chocolate cake with my daughter but we fought for the next bite. Not a bad cake! Because of football games going on it was a little loud because of the bar crowd.

Went into the bar at Nick & Jakes on Sunday April 5th to watch the NCAA's women's Final a four basketball game. I was a bit excited to see there weren't very many people in the bar area. I sat at the bar, ordered a beer and waited on the game to start. They have lots of TV's in the bar. I have always assumed NJ's is a sports bar as I've been there many times over the years to watch big games in many different sports. I noticed they had 6 different sorts of sporting games on their way more than 6 TV's. I also noticed no one of the few patrons seemed to be interested in any particular golf, baseball or several basketball games playing. Our group turned to 3 patrons wanting to watch the girls NCAA Final Four game. We asked a manager to please turn on the sound to the basketball game as the sound system was playing music. He told us he would not turn on the sound to the game we wanted to watch as he was turning on the KC Sporting soccer game shortly and would be turning the sound on to that soccer game. What would have been wrong about turning on the sound to the girls Final Four game until the soccer game came on which turned out was about 30 minutes after the basketball game started. We stayed through the basketball game and well into the soccer game. They never turned on the sound to the Soccer game! The music played the entire time we were in the bar, never was a game's sound played. Is NJ's a Sports Bar or a Music Joint? Do what you say you're going to do or accommodate polite requests for tuning sound in on a game from paying customers. The beer was cold and service was fantastic.

My family and I love this place! Irish Nachos, YES PLEASE! The service is usually amazing, but lately it seems to be more hit and miss! If you need to watch a big game, the bar side usually has a spot or two to sit! The dining side, I've only eaten in for brunch, which was good, but nothing I've been back for.

  • Blake C.

This is a very good place for brunch. They actually had a very big variety for the buffet. The price was $19 for the buffet, which I think is pricey, but it was worth the price. The favorites that I liked on the buffet, were the Chinese chicken, the Mac and Cheese, the fruit and the bacon of course. They had more than I would have expected for a brunch, and it was a very nice setup. I would go here again.

This place gets huge credit for being kid friendly. The food is always good, fast, hot, delicious - all the things you want but the little extra touches they add for our kids are over the top. They bring coloring sheets and crayons (lots of places do this) but they also bring a little bowl of grapes and cheese crackers... BRILLIANT! Kid's menu is great and at the end they brought each one of my kids a little bag of Oreo cookies as a treat - but we're smart enough to ask me if it was OK. Super impressive customer service and if you like lots of great tap beers and meatloaf, this place has the best in the city. Thrilled to see them open a location near the plaza and close to work for me too! We are definitely going aback and bringing the kids again.

  • Teresa L.

The service here is amazing. Our waiter brought out refills before we finished because he noticed our ice had melted, and when my sister and I split an entree, it arrived on two plates, already halved for us! The food here is classic American, and I like how big the restaurant is. It's a great casual spot for large groups or to take your family.

  • Scott G.

In my opinion Nick & Jakes is the nicest sports bar in the Parkville area. (For the record it's also a very nice restaurant for those looking for a quieter and slightly classier dining experience.) But for the purposes of this review, my comments will mainly focus on the bar area, which is large and spacious and offers plenty of TVs and channels to watch. The food there is, for the most part, excellent, but one complaint I have is that the entrees are a little too overpriced for my liking. The exception is during happy hour (and late night happy hour) when appetizers are all half-priced. Service is usually good. My only other complaint is that they don't offer a great craft beer selection, which is something I'd expect from a place like this.

A small group of ladies dine out monthly and we like to try new places. This was the group's first time at Nick and Jake's in Parkville. I am happy to give five stars to the food, service, ambiance, value and overall dining experience! Our waitress was cheerful and first-class. She gladly separated our meals (six tickets) and even split the cost of the shared desserts. She was attentive and took great care of us. Those who tried the bacon smothered cabbage gave it rave reviews. We had Chicken Pot Pie (huge! you will need a take-home box), Grandma's Chicken (the gouda sauce is creamy and delicious), the salmon special, the 'OMG' Burger (Pulled Pork, Bacon, Pepperoncini, Jack, Chipotle Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato) and the one of the many sandwich choices. And then dessert! I shared bread pudding with another lady. It was heavenly. Two others shared the carrot cake. The restaurant is located in a very nice area which has been developing over the last several years. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, is comfortable and tastefully decorated, quiet and a nice respite at the end of the day. I would definitely return to Nick and Jake's.

We eat here fairly often, as we live up north. It has a great menu, excellent, well trained staff who are friendly and attentive, and nice atmosphere. Save room (or just come here for) dessert. It also boasts what i will call (up to this point anyway) my favorite brunch in Kansas city. The menu is varied, with classic American fair. the portions are very generous. Try their Maytag chips, instead of fries, they are AWESOME and worth it.....yum homemade chips. Their pastas are great, with some really flavorful but light sauces. their fired chicken is hand breaded and well done. The burgers are also awesome. Save room for their desserts. EVERYTHING on the dessert tray is good. carrot cake, cheese cake, lemon bars, apple cobbler....omg YUM. The service for this place is top notch. I have been a server, so i tend to be very critical of bad service. Here I can find nothing to complain about. They bring out a little cheese cracker and fruit plate for the kids while waiting for your order, a nice bonus to keep those little mouths busy My drinks were refilled when needed without me having to ask (a pet peeve of mine) . The Sunday brunch is great. Get there early because it fills up fast. They have great corned beef hash, eggs, biscuits and gravy (one of my favorites) prime rib, all the desserts they usually have (plus some amazing chocolate covered macaroons), a great in season fruit tray, pasta with bacon and cream sauce, omelet station, french toast, waffles, bacon, cheesy creamy grits bacon smoked ham, sausage...the list goes on and on. it was all hot and kept well stocked. Having discovered their sun brunch i am pretty sure we will be coming back every month or so.

Ordered the Friday Night Special, Black and Blue, Mmmmm, Blue Cheese really commented the Steak. Also ordered the KC Strip, both ordered medium and cooked perfect. Food came so quick, I asked the server to walk it around the dinning room one time, HA, Great Friendly Service, quick seating for a Friday night. Nice ambiance, with Jazz music back ground, pleasant enough you can still have a conversation. We sat in the Booth by the windows, comfortable Seating. I am coming Back ! N

A great place for a good meal. The smokey chicken pasta is amazing, and they have a really nice Sunday brunch. Also one of the only places in Parkville that is open late - a nice bar to hang out in and watch sports and enjoy a late night happy hour.

  • Harold J.

A great restaurant with a sports bar area, too. I have eaten here at varies times and our group has always received a friendly greeting by a hostess and had very good service by the wait staff. Last evening the wife and I shared a 3/4 rack of pork baby back ribs that were reasonably lean, cooked just right and delicious. On previous visits I recall having had their tenderloin sandwich and enjoyed their chocolate cake. They do have a small room off the bar area where small groups can enjoy the food and drink while being separated for a more private experience. During sporting events, the patrons can raise the noise level but that doesn't seem to bother much in the dining area. This is certainly a place to consider for dining in Parkville.

Love it!!! The atmosphere is great in the dinning area and the bar, the service & food has always been beyond fabulous! I absolutely love ALL the salads..(Wow that was such a woman comment) my bad lol! But I have tried so many things on this menu its so hard to just mention a couple, LOVE LOVE the AHI Tuna who can pass up tuna on top of Wasabi infused mashed potato's..not this girl WOW!!! The rib were even impressive too. Save your appetite or split a meal so you can try the bread pudding or the carrot cake...delish!!!

I was just reading thru some of my older reviews and thought I should update this one. Since I last reviewed the stricter smoking laws have come in and now Nick and Jake's is 100% non smoking!! It's the perfect restaurant now. Love it.

Nick and Jake's is fantastic. The restaurant is divided into two halves the bar side and the restaurant side. We have only ever eaten on the restaurant side. It takes a lot for a restaurant to truely impress me but they did it. The attention to detail here is what impressed me the most. The wait staff is friendly, professional and extremely well trained. Almost everything is made in house. (Just a few desserts are brought in from a local bakery) We ordered coffee one afternoon at a time between the lunch rush and dinner crowd and they brought us a french press perfectly steeped and heated coffee cups to make sure we got delicious fresh hot coffee. They keep the french presses on hand because they'd never serve stale coffee from earlier in the day. Between 3pm and 6pm you can order $3 small plates which are not actually that small at all. They happily give you a free dessert to share on your first visit. Why? Because they want your business and hope you will return. And return we have several times. They food is fresh, plentiful, and flavorful. They have a wide and varied menu i.e. something for everyone. The bathrooms are clean and the decor and ambience is inviting and comfortable. In my humble opinion Nick and Jake's is everything a restaurant should be.

Can't say enough good things about this place. I had the bourbon salmon. My husband had the blackened chicken carbonara. Both were beyond fantastic. It was my first time here. Lisa, our server was so nice and helpful and overall wonderful. We will definitely return... Like, tomorrow.

Had a birthday dinner last night, all was good except My father in law got violently ill after eating the ribs. I let them know by phone only to hear why it couldn't be their food! A little more concern and possibly accepting fault? , nope! And I don't want any comps out of the experience. My girlfriend got the Asian salad and had so.e Rock Hard noodles with a the waiter saying," The chef said there are two kinds of noodles". Really? I hope they get it together because it has always been good.

Food was great! They made me a wrap that was on their menu because I'm vegetarian. Extremely accommodating and very kind staff. Big thanks to the kitchen for hooking me up and our server Aaron for being awesome! Definitely will come back when I'm in KC.

Solid American food. Went there for a late lunch on a Saturday and the bar side was pretty busy. The service was great. Never had to wait to have a drink refilled and the waiter grabbed my plate right as I finished my food. They had a discounted Saturday lunch menu that actually had quite a bit of food that I wanted to try on it unlike many similar offers at other restaurants that give you a discount on the food that no one ever orders. I had the pulled pork sandwich and it game with BBQ sauce and smothered in a queso kind of gouda cheese. It was kind of messy but delicious. The fries are almost completely flavorless and next time I'm going to try the chips but overall my food was great and the bill for my girlfriend and I was less than $20. I'll definitely be back soon.

I have not been to this location in a couple of years, but used to go here almost every Sunday, before kids, for brunch, and it was always fantastic. My wife and I dined her Saturday night for dinner and although I ate mine, Grandma's Chicken, it was just OK. My wife had the meatloaf and she did not care for it at all. I will say we were seated right away and our waiter was on top of his game, keeping our drinks filled and checking on us frequently. The interior appeared to be clean and the noise level was very quite.

We have been to Nick & Jake's several times over the years for dinner, lunch, etc, but the meal we really keep coming back for is the Sunday buffet. I am not a fan of buffets in general since I always go home feeling stuffed to the gills, but once in a while I like to throw caution to the wind and hit Nick & Jake's for a family brunch. At $17 a person for adults, their Sunday buffet is a great reasonably-priced option that lies comfortably between the low-end Sunday gluttony like City Diner or Corner Cafe and more upscale places like McCormick & Schmick's or Lidia's - and for Northlanders, it presents an especially attractive choice. There are loads of choices and everything is tasty - especially the cinnamon rolls. I have also found the service at Nick & Jake's to be friendly and prompt.

We took the kids here for Sunday brunch. Was a pricey brunch but we enjoyed it. There was a good selection and they were great about keeping the buffet stocked. Our waitress was great about keeping on top of drink refills and taking away used plates.

This is definitely a fun place to eat. The menu had some great choices for americana food and the service was outstanding. I had a steak and it was done perfectly to my liking. The portions are a good size too so keep that in mind when ordering.

One of my favorite places to go when out with the wife. The beer selection is always good and the wait staff is very friendly. I always get the Cuban sandwich when I go. During our last visit my wife and I ordered a dessert crafted by the chef in house. It was a french toast cheesecake. Seriously, this was one of the best desserts either of us had ever had!

Really good service and solid offerings, just like the OP location and Wil Jenny's. The ownership group of these places have a good formula. I had Nick's salad, with chicken, sub the balsamic for the Tuscan vinegarette. Delicious and just the veggie bomb I needed. Screens are everywhere on the bar side if you love sports (or if you are stuck with a boring person for dinner). ; )

I absolutely love this place. I debated between 4&5 stars, because I do find it overly pricey. My friend and I had girls night here a couple of days ago. 1 appetizer, 1 entree, 1 dessert, a few drinks: $100 with tip. That's insane! My husband and I love to take the family there, but we don't leave for under $60 for 2 kids and 2 adults, no alcohol, no dessert. The chicken fried steak on Thursday for lunch is awesome. Their Irish nachos are amazing. But my absolute favorite thing on the menu is the Maytag Chips. If you like blue cheese, you'll be wishing it was acceptable to lick a plate clean. The service has been really lacking lately. Amy and Rob on the bar side were good. Dining side? Haven't had anything decent yet :(

Not the best experience, but I'm hoping the next will be better. Our middling experience was due to one problem, significant but fixable. The oil in the frier was way too cold, so the entire meal suffered. To back up a bit, we never had tried this place before, but had heard good things, so we dropped by one evening for appetizers and drinks. Expecting (incorrectly) that the apps would be small plates, we ordered three. But the amount of food that came out was enough for six people, at least. One would have been enough for the pair of us, given the generous portions. The three dishes: pork empanadas, fried calamari, and Irish nachos. The emapanada filling was tasty- wish I could have had an entire bowl of it. But the pastry had acted as a sponge in the too-cold oil, soaking it up until the empanadas were dripping with it. The calamari, too, was oil-laden. Soggy, dripping, not appealing. And besides that problem, the dish was odd as well. Diced green and red bell peppers had been fried alongside the calamari. But the peppers added absolutely nothing to the dish. We figured they were included simply to bulk up the portion, thereby using less of the squid. As for the Irish nachos, they were the best of the three. Oil-logged, yes, but tasty in spite of that problem. Thinly sliced potatoes topped with cheese and bacon bits. We seldom eat bar food, but this trio of ingredients can't be beat. I suppose my biggest problem with this place was that the food was visibly oil-logged, the oil pooling at the bottom of the plates, and yet the kitchen still sent out the food. A little attention to quality control would do N&J's well. Given the good reviews, we will try the place again. And within all of that soaking, sopping oil, were the makings of good, freshly made food. So, unlike some other places to which I have given 2 stars and sworn never to return again, N&J's has clear potential, and deserves another chance.

Great place to watch a game...or 20 all at once. Atmosphere is awesome, service is good, and food was delicious. Get there early to get a good spot-and then enjoy the views!

Visited for Easter brunch. Received full service at the bar. Enjoyed the mimosa special and the great desserts. Glad we decided to go even though it was really packed and many people had reservations, but the bar had open seating.

Nick and Jake's is one of those places that you wish you went to more often -- you just don't think about it. They offer a truly eclectic menu that reminds me somewhat of a cheaper Houlihan's, but better! Nick and Jake's fare is made from scratch and is one of those places where you really can't go wrong with what you get. Their happy hour they offer is one that is actually worth going to -- they have good quality offerings on their happy hour menu for cheap (tired of seeing happy hour menu's where they offer "olives" or "chips and salsa" for $3). At Nick and Jake's HH expect smaller variations of what's on their normal lunch and dinner menu for $3. Their Sunday Prime Rib brunch buffet is one of my favorites in the city. In addition to a lot of their favorite offerings from the menu on the buffet, a made-to-order omelet station and prime rib is included along with a huge dessert bar all for about $15 bucks. Looking for some comfort food for the evening? Come in and try their meatloaf, grandma's chicken, chicken pot pie, or their buttermilk hand-battered chicken fingers. All of their burgers are awesome and huge, too for under $10 bucks. If you can muster it, order a side of their house made ranch dressing. It's the best ranch dressing I've ever had (next to Stephenson's Restaurant, may it rest in peace). You'll find yourself trying to guess what's in it -- it's that good. I try to smother it on just about anything... it's so good I've considered pairing it with my morning fruit loops.

This place has a great bar for watching games and they subscribe to every sport package they can get. The food is good, the service is good, the waitresses are hot. It gets crowded at the bar during games and happy hour on Fridays for sure. It can be a bit smoky, but not too too bad. One of the bartenders, Joy, just won best bartender in the Northland.

Nick and Jake's is the best. Been there countless times. Food is great and the bar area is awesome. If you are going for a big game, make sure you get there early. The bar fills up fast. Downside, the smoking. They allow it in the bar area. It's kind of weird to go to a bar that allows it still. There is definitely a clientele that enjoys it. All the food is good, but I like the crab cakes, chicken pot pie, and mama's meatloaf.

Been here multiple times and each time its top notch. The owners are usually around and checking on the guests, which I feel is a nice touch. I've eaten the quesadilla appetizer as a meal which I never can finish all the way its so large. Also had the blackened chicken alfredo which was good. and last time had the chicken pot pie. I usually don't like chicken pot pie but it was a cold wintery day and it just sounded good to me. It was spectacular. It was baked individually in a ceramic dish, the dough was flakey and thick. The topping was mashed potatoes covered with parmesean cheese which looked like it was placed quickly under a broiler to brown the cheese. The prices are fair but some dishes top $20. Servers are always polite and well trained. From the outside you'd think the place was a sports bar but the inside is anything but. The bar is separated from the restaurant so noise is contained especially on game nights. The restaurant side looks like an upscale fine dining restaurant with a cozy fireplace and warm, inviting colors. The menu choices are varied and something will appeal to everyone in your group. Oh and get the chocolate cake as a dessert! Its plenty big for 2!

Let me just say that if you are lucky enough to get Ehret as your waiter, be prepared for the best service of your life. For some reason, every time we go we are seated in his section. He's a mind reader and wish granter. I've had a variety of foods here, the appetizers are great, the Sunday buffet beats the heck out of other Sunday buffets around, they are experts in comfort food. Cheese and garlic and glorious meats and spices permeate the menu. The staff is nice and the one time that I disliked something (a bloody mary that was too salty) they fixed it and gave me something new. It's manly, the decor, the leather, the tv's, some of the menu, but in a good way. I can't wait to go back.

The food, amazing. The drinks, amazing. Definitely worth the 35 minute drive to eat here. I love their salads, but I also love every thing I've ever tried off of their menu. Also managed to order chocolate cake for dessert one time (it was shared among 4 people!) and it was delicious as well. The bar area is awesome - great for having a couple drinks and watching the game. Definitely give it a try if you haven't yet!!

This restaurant has a lot going for it. It hosts a nice dining area, a full bar, friendly staff and a varied menu. The wonderful surprises for me were the lovely steaks and their "fall off the bone" ribs. (And yes, they actually are!) I have had the honor of complimenting the chef in person on the quality of these tantalizing meat dishes, and I would highly recommend them. The calamari and bruschetta appetizers are also well worth trying! I have not had a bad experience here, and the only fault I would lay on them is that I don't find their brunch menu as unique as I would like.

I used to be a monster fan of Nick and Jakes in Parkville... I just don't want to go back. Over the past year, the portions have gone from massive to big, their prices have gone from a little pricy to expensive and the worst is the quality of the food is on the down tick. Their steak soup is good if you like the ground beef version (as opposed to the legacy KC style with chunks of steak) Their ribs are classically good; and their ahi tuna over mashed potatoes is tasty. But: If I'm going to spend $18 for some ahi tuna... I'm going to head for sushi and be thrilled. If I really want ribs I'll spend 1/2 the price at a BBQ place...

Delicious! Great service. Try Grandma Pat's chicken. The sauce served on it has a bit of a horseradish flavor, and it is creamy and delicious. Comes with a side of cheese grits, which I had never really tried before, but I highly recommend.

User Rating: 1 out of 5 stars by mehtools 01/06/2011 I would have rated it 0 stars but It requiers at least 1. This is a typical small town bar there is a restaurant side but it is an afterthought, We arrived at 8:13PM sat on the restaurant side as I don't smoke when eating dinner, I consider it rude. at 8:18PM 3 employees have passed us and not a word was spoken. I had my order ready and was going to do an appetizer as we were hungry. 8:23PM. NO server yet, the bar side is obviously the money maker as trays of food were headed over there. 8:28PM we got up and left, the server told us to have a good night like we ate in 15 minutes, she was brain dead. I was quite shocked that a bar serves a prime rib for $22. That is over priced for the area and especially a bar. They had a Sirloin special. for $17, are you kdding me first of all this is a BAR/Restaurant mainly BAR. second it's a SIRLOIN good grief what does it sell for if NOT on special. Horribly dissapointed at the lack of attention in this establishment, it is sad to think that several restaurants around this one have failed due to the patrons taking up all the spaces and going to the bar. If you want good food in the area I recommend Roxanne's, She doesn't claim to be a "classy" place but after being treated lik I was invisible for 15 minutes then the Hostess not even coming close to realizing we were abandoned. I give them a 0. I will return in 2 weeks if it doesn't improve I will rip the manager a new one THEN walk out. totally worthless. I think due to Parkville Regs thay have to offer a restaurant but it is obvious the BAR reviews are listed, This is a restaurant review. and it was pitiful. to say OH one bad experience, well that's just me. Don't make excuses that they were busy there were 3 other tables and restaurants and service industry establishments are NOT allowed to make that excuse. This is more like a Perkins restaurant I never patronize, HEY even food Critics like Pancakes once in a while.

This Nick & Jake's is my boss and her family's favorite restaurant - they live in Parkville and its "the place" where everybody goes and runs into friends and neighbors. I certainly got that friendly, small town feeling at this place and that's a definite good thing. Nice ambiance and decor, though nothing memorable - the place is pretty big too. I was surprised, for a family, restaurant at the outfits the hostesses wore. Not over the top slutty or anything, but not the more traditional button down/polo shirt I would have expected. Our server was perfect - friendly and helpful without making it awkward by talking way too much. They have both of my favorite beers (Newcastle and Shiner Bock) so any restaurant that does that gets points in my book. My date had the Friday fish & chips, which came in a basket with the traditional newspaper lining, but just weren't that good. For the price, I would have expected all you can eat and not just three pieces of fish. The fries were decent though and the cole slaw delicious. I had a burger and it was good, though not great enough to make me go back just for that. The service, friendly atmosphere and having my two favorite beers available, along with liking Parkville, will make me go back again sometime, but the food left something to be desired.
