I might have gone in expectations that were too high based on a friend's recommendations and all of the great reviews, but I wasn't blown away. In fact, I was disappointed all around. So many of the reviews here said they had tons of sides that you could choose from instead of getting rice & beans with your chosen entree. Apparently they have changed the menu. While they do have sides and sharables that you can order separately, every item had standard sides included. That's not a problem, just not what I was expecting. I was less than impressed with my food. I ordered chicken & steak fajitas, and the meat was tough and lacked seasoning. The stead was actually overly well done. If the meats weren't mixed in with the toppings in a fajita to help disguise that they were blah, I would have been even less happy with my meal. They only brought 3 tortiallas (I asked for more). There was no way that you could eat all of your meat in just those 3 little tortillas unless you skipped all of the goodies that come with it. I also tasted the Queso Fundido dip which reminded me of a bland velveeta texture dip...and I love cheese so it's hard to disappoint me with it. But this one did. The guacamole had too much pepper in it for me...I don't like spicy at all so while this will be a hit with heat lovers, it wasn't with me. The chips were good and it was nice to get a Dos XX beer on tap. We were seated by the bar which was fine, but the place definitely has a chain restaurant feel to it. My 2 friends got the enchilada plates and they seemed happy enough but I realize now that I didn't actually ask them what they thought of the food. The service was also pretty odd. Our assigned waitress seemed to have a little trouble with English, surprising in St. Louis in a non-family run Mexican restaurant. She just wasn't on her game at all. Rarely stopped back by. One woman ordered a cocktail and the bartender delivered 2 of them...he said she told him we wanted 2. The water wasn't served until she finally delivered the drinks...long after the chips and hot salsa were on the table. We did have 2 other people that seemed to be checking on us too, so many they were aware that this server wasn't doing so well or she was new. While I would go back if a friend asked to go there, I wouldn't be all that excited and would avoid everything I ate on this visit. Given that Ballwin is just as much a trek for me as heading to the city, I would probably try to talk my friends into Rosalita's downtown instead. Now THAT was amazing Mexican food.

Saturday 10/1/11 was my first time here. Yes, I looked at the Yelp reviews first before walking in. We were greeted promptly and seated in the bar. Our waitress Danielle was very polite and was able to give recommendations and provide a wonderful lunch experience. We wanted to try both the guacamole and queso cheese so they gave us a 1/2 order of each. They totally deserve "Cool Points" for that! We ordered the steak and chicken fajitas. WOW! The Chicken was amazing! I have been to a lot of Mexican restaurant establishments in my life but Senor Pique was such a wonderful experience. The food was full of flavor and the chips and salsa was very fresh. I had the opportunity to meet the owner of the restaurant and he was so delighted for our patronage to his restaurant. It was so nice to dine at a place that was so friendly and that had such wonderful tasting food. I asked for some hot sauce also and got some Habanero salsa that I used with my Fajitas that provided a nice additional "heat" experience to my food. Make sure you look at the 2008 Chef award for resident "Mom" and Chef (Maria E. Gutierrez-Molina) My Bottom Line: Go and enjoy a wonderful Mexican food experience!

I had passed by Senor Pique multiple times and never really thought about stopping by based on their sign. The name Senor Pique is really small, and all you can really see from Manchester or even in the same parking lot is Mexican Restaurant and Margarita Bar. I wasn't really motivated to stop by a place that I didn't think had a real name, but finally decided to give it a try only to discover the true name was Senor Pique and not a generic name like Mexican Restaurant and Margarita Bar. Anyways I ordered the Quesdilla Gringos with steak, and was extremely surprised. The steak was tender and amazingly delicious. Portion sized were very generous, I plan on returning to try more of the menu.

I liked this place better before they changed their menu. Food is pretty tasty though, nothing spectacular but a good meal.

The food was very good. We ordered takeout so I can't say too much about the experience in-house, but it seemed clean and the people were nice. Not the most authentic Mexican food I've ever had, but it will definitely be one of our go-to places for a quick, reasonably-priced, and reliable meal. The juicy jalapeno pork tacos were out of this world. The only "problem" was that they were too true to their name. The tacos were so juicy that the corn tortillas melted away. Not a bad problem to have, really. We also really liked that you could choose your sides instead of just having rice and beans come with every meal. I had the corn on the cob and the poblanos, both of which had some Mexican-type mayo on it that I wasn't hugely fond of, but the quality of the food seemed good. I will say that the salsa and chips were just OK, though their green salsa was very spicy and very good. I just wish they had given us more of it.

It's a nice enough Mexican restaurant to have in the neighborhood. The food is okay and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed the last time I was there. I know now not to show up on a Thursday with the balloon man and all those loud children.

So as a transplant from California, I am still looking for the Mexican food I miss. While Senor Pique is good, it still doesn't hit the mark. The Tacos al Pastor had an unusual spice to them, like allspice or cinnamon which was odd. The salsa tasted like they used canned tomatoes. The rice was good (I don't usually see peas in Mexican rice though) and the beans were okay but lacked flavor.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in STL. Great margaritas, excellent chimichangas and fajitas, as well as very good chips and salsa. No complains here...I frequent their restaurant and no longer live in the area so I drive quite a ways to get their food. If you love Mexican, do yourself a favor and try them out. Lots of traditional Mexican side dishes that vary outside your typical beans and rice. Everyone I have taken here has loved their food.

I haven't eaten anything here that was not good, I love the chimichangas and the appetizers are killer. They have a side of corn that comes with mayo, and it is amazing. They service is decent, some days are better than others, but never any issues. The chips are good, the salsa is better than Chevy's and the Guac is OMG Fresh. I have had lots of parties here because the food is filling and the portions are large. Don't eat the whole cimichanga. Just don't do it. You will have drinks and chips and appetizers and it will be so good, that you will try to eat every bite. It will hurt, you will need to loosen your belt. You will say to yourself it was so good. Crunchy and flaky, and warm and gooey with cheese and chicken... and you will try to eat the whole damn thing. If you accomplish this after everything else, it will be a double edged sword. So good, and sooooooo much. Save it and eat it later. Experience the greatness that is chimi and changa combined for your pleasure twice. The menu is small, so you can try alot, and some portions are humongous and others are not, so ask which ones to share. Get the Guac and try the chimi, take the chonga home, your pants will thank me. And in case you didn't notice, I like this place and think you should check it out. Seriously though, don't eat the whole thing. I am 6ft and 220 and it did me in, after the drinks and the chips and the guac and the apps and the sharables anyway. LOL:) Side note, great patio!! Not so great beer selction. unless of course you have cerveza on your mind.

I take it back. Hubby gave me a run down on the burrito. He gave it a thumbs down. I'll let them keep the 2 stars for good cheese dip and good waitress, but they're dangling dangerously closely to the 1 star level.

Good authentic Mexican fare. They have a fantastic selection of side dishes that go beyond the usual beans and rice.

I ended up here on a whim and what a whim it turned out to be. This place turned out to be great. I ended up trying out the Tacos al Pastor. Great call Rick. What did you like most about them? I loved that they were small, tasty, not covered up with sour cream/guacamole and reminded me of eating fresh tacos from little Mexican stands. The taste of the pork was the main flavor here.... like it's supposed to be. What did I love most about this place? Tell us Rick.... You don't HAVE to have beans and rice... You can if you would like still though. You get a choice of sides.... What a novel idea. I went with the rajas con crema (just ok in my book) and the quesadillita de jalapenos (pretty damn good in my book), but come on people... you can choose from 15-17 sides. The patio is nice. The service pretty good. The guy kept our water glasses full as we baked outside in the warm sun. All of this taken into account... 2 thumbs up Senor.

Best Tacos DE Cameron (shrimp tacos) I've ever eaten. Try them with the Frijoles Charros soup and pablano peppers. My fave.

First off - I'm vegan. I went here with my family expecting to sit there sipping iced tea, just waiting for every one to finish so I could go get some food that hadn't died. However, I decided to ask if the guacamole could be served without cheese and also asked if the refried beans were made with lard. The waiter came back with my vegan guacamole and informed me that although the beans don't have lard they are cooked in butter. They get points for that because believe it or not, some waiters might have just come out and said "no lard" and not mentioned the butter. Anyway, when everyone ordered I just said "better stick with my guacamole" but he suggested the veggie fajitas. He assured me they're cooked in veggie oil and can be served without dairy. It was fabulous. They came out on a sizzling plate with fresh tortillas and hot sauce. I was very impressed with the accommodations and the fajitas were dynamite.

Although most St. Louis-area Mexican restaurants aren't BAD, they don't really blow you out of the water, either. Furthermore, the menus tend to be almost exactly the same whether you go to El Maguey, El Nopal, Mi Lupita, Las Margaritas, etc. etc. etc. Not so with Senor Pique. Although many of their menu items are similar to those at other area Mexican restaurants, a lot of those items are prepared a little differently (and better); there are also plenty of things you won't find anywhere else in town. Everything I've had tastes absolutely great.

Update: Friend heard me talking about my lunch here and wanted to go. This particular friend happens to be a well regarded chef, and can also hang with me when it comes to seriously chowing down. So I went to the kitchen, told them to start making whatever they felt would give a broad representation of their food (in my mediocre spanish), and to just keep it coming until we either surrendered or they heard a loud explosion. 8 tacos (one of each kind), 2 Mole dishes (green mole is great, the other is just ok), 2 soups, guacamole (watery avocados, meh), and every side dish imaginable, and lots of small samplings later, we weakly yelled to the waiter to make it stop. To summarize, my original review stands. Good mex food, presented with a little flair, at an inexpensive price. p.s. - they'll happily bring you out a sample of their mole's for you to try prior to ordering. not as a 'special' thing, it says it right on the menu. that says a lot about a place and their belief in their food

I really like Mexican restaurants in general, but I did not like the food here. The service, decor, etc. was fine, but I did not like the food. My main problem was that the salsa was basically just a sliced up tomato and very hard to enjoy with the chips. Nothing wrong with this restaurant, just nothing that would make me choose it over other's that have exceptional Mexican dishes and salsa.

As I understand it, the restaurant is owned by a husband/wife who are Mexican/American. However, I don't feel that this food is very authentic Mexican. Basically Americanized Mexican food like most of the other restaurants. I give it 3 stars because the service is pretty good and the food is OK.

I went to Senor Pique based on several reviews here, on Yelp. I wish I hadn't. The food wasn't horrible. But, I only get one date day per week with my hubby, and I wish I hadn't wasted my date lunch on such a drab experience. I had the chipoltle chicken tostados (which came as an order of 2). It was just ok. The chicken was a bit wet, and I wasn't too hip on the flavor, or the dark green cilantro type stuff on top (what's wrong with just lettuce?), and the dish itself only came with one side. I opted for rice, but wished I hadn't (which I'll explain below). For the price, two sides would have been a bit more fair, but that's a small gripe. The rice was not so good (overwhelmingly cilantro flavored, lacking other flavors), but the beans were tasty (sampled those thanks to my husband, who ordered them). Next to the chips, which were very warm, fresh, and delicous, the refried beans were the highlight of the meal for me. When you go to a Mexican place for Mexican food, this shouldn't be the case. My husband had the pork tacos on soft, corn shells. They were decent, and better than what I ordered in the tostados, but they were small. Portions here tend to border on little, and while I don't eat a lot, and don't need a larger portion, I would like to see the smaller portion in the price of their food. I think it's a bit high for the amount they give you. The margarita was good. I wouldn't say it was great, but it was good, and again, small for the price. Served in a daiquiri glass (instead of a full size, larger, authentic margarita glass), it was cold and refreshing, but made in a blender, rather than a machine, so missing that perfect machine-margarita made taste. I make better margaritas at home. It isn't difficult, so I can't figure out why it's so difficult for the restaurants in St. Louis to make a decent margarita. The scenery isn't that great, to me. It felt more like a Mexican-ized O'Charley's than a real Mexican restaurant, with the open, wrap around kitchen, the cafeteria style carpeting, and the decor, but that's my opinion. A portion of my dining experience was tainted by my waitress, I'll admit. She wasn't very friendly, and when I asked for no onions on my tostados, she rolled her eyes. I didn't comment. Didn't want to fight, but that was very unprofessional, considering she works for tips. She was also very slow, and in general, didn't have much advice on the menu. I told her this was my first visit to the restaurant, and asked what was good, and asked about various menu items. She kept going on and on about the shrimp tacos. That's great if you like shrimp tacos, but I don't, and would have liked an opinion on other things, too. I won't be back. I realize a lot of people seem to enjoy Senor Pique's, but I didn't. To me, it was typical, chain style Mexican food, and not even as good as say, a Chevy's, etc. I expected more, and had high expectations even, but this place didn't deliver. In the future, I'll return to my favorite Mexican place in Florissant the next time I'm craving good Mexican food, rather than returning to Senor Pique's.

Authentic Mexican food, not like El Maguey- not that I don't enjoy El Maguey or El Nopal, but Sr. Piqué food has more interesting flavor going on in their dishes than your typical Mexican restaurant. The tacos de camaron (shrimp tacos) are sooo good- tiger shrimp with black beans, avocado, and white cream sauce- and worth the $14 or so price. The guacamole is always delicious and fresh, and the queso dip is so rich and buttery good. Their drinks are on the expensive side, but my friends and I have discovered their rockin' happy hour (M-F 4-6) which includes 1/2 priced appetizers and $3 house margaritas. Señor Pique happy hour = perfection.

I have yet to find a restaurant that serves better Mexican than Senor Pique. I've worked at Senor Pique as both a hostess and a waitress for about two years. There was never a moment when I became bored of their food. My absolute favorite meal on the menu is the Tacos de Camarones (Shrimp Tacos). As a waitress, I've recommended this platter to customers as the best choice for anyone who likes shrimp. The responses I've received have never been anything less than being absolutely delicious. Enough spotlight on the shrimp tacos... You can never go wrong with Senor Pique's fajitas. It comes out sizzling and with just enough variety of sides to create tacos according to your taste. I also agree with Maggie, Steak Senor Burrito is definitely in my top 5 platters there. At Senor Pique, everything from its chips and salsa to desserts are made from scratch in its own kitchen. The restaurant is owned and managed by a couple (Angel and Janet) and their family. Of course, the service is outstanding! ;) For those who enjoy a live music and dancing, Senor Pique has its very own salsa band that plays live every Friday night (8 to about midnight). They also give free salsa lessons on their dance stage!

Chips are fresh, we like the salsa, and Dos Equis Amber is on tap! We visit here regularly because the service is always friendly and the food is great. The menu is different enough from other chain Mexican restaurants to make it interesting, and the food is consistently well prepared. Fish tacos are a favorite. We've been over a dozen times and have never been disappointed.

Fellow STL Yelper Zaya N recommended that I try this place, so after our hike at Castlewood on Saturday my friend and I came here for lunch. We arrived a little before noon, and the doors were locked. Hmm... the hostess came over and told us they open at noon. I found this odd, but since it was almost noon my friend and I had a seat on the benches outside and waited. They opened the doors a few minutes later, and the hostess was so cheerful and friendly I had to wonder if she was on something... ok, kidding, but she's probably one of the nicest hostesses I've ever encountered. She sat us at our table, and we were quickly given water and chips and salsa. The restaurant was nice - pretty standard dining room. My friend said that this building used to be an O'Charleys, but that didn't mean anything to me since I had never been there. They had mexican music playing, but it wasn't cheesy at all - it fit in. The menu seelction was pretty good, and since I was starving I kind of wanted one of everything. I settled on the steak quesadillas, and my friend ordered the chicken nachos. While we waited we inhaled the chips and salsa, which were perfection. The chips were warm and perfectly salted, and the salsa was hot... so hot that I was drinking water like it was going out of style. Our waiter teased me about it on the third refill. Hey, it was good, what can I say? Our food came out and it was yummy. At first I didn't love the steak, but it grew on me as I ate more. My friend was very pleased with her chicken nachos as well. However, the portions were HUGE... and even though we were starving we both only made it through about half of our meals before we couldn't possibly put anything else into our stomachs. Cue my need for a food coma induced nap. Overall, this was a great place and I would come back. The food was yummy, the service was great, and I left happy.

Señor Piqué is my favorite Mexican restaurant in St. Louis COUNTY. The food is fresh and authentic. I usually order the tacos al pastor even though they are a bit spicy for me. I always have friendly service. They have Agua de Horchata (rice milk), too. You can sign up for their text club to get coupons.

The best Mexican restaurant in St. Louis!! The food is homemade, the salsa is the best. They have the best scratch margaritas, and try the skinny girly margaritas, not sure if it's a mix, but they are good. I love the shrimp tacos, but I have tried alot of stuff and never been disappointed. They use the mini soft taco shells, which are easier to eat and keep the portions from being so large you roll out of there. I love that you can choose your side dishes, it's not the standard fare of beans and rice. They have mexican corn, smothered in cheese and paprika, oh man so good. You can eat really good food for a very reasonable ticket, including drinks....they ahve a great patio which should be open on a beautiful day like today in the 80's...we meet our kids there on the weekends alot, they love the food too!

My favorite Mexican restaurant in St. Louis. Being housed in an old O'Charley's is kind of funny but the food is no laughing matter. Simply delicious. They serve both traditional Mexican dishes and well as more "gringo" style. I love the Tacos al Pastor - pork tacos. Not a fan of rice and beans? No problem, they have a huge side selection - I like to papa torta and the creamed poblano peppers. Also, the corn and the soups are great. All this at very reasonable prices.

So my parents love this place - they go there on a regular basis. It's definitely a good thing to have a decent Mexican place in this area of the county. My beef is with the beef. On two separate occasions I got a beef taco/fajita/burrito thing and the meat was VERY low quality. I'm talking on the verge of inedible - and I will eat just about anything. I was very un-appetized by this and forced the remained of it because I don't like to waste. I would much rather go down the street to El Mauguey even though I would call it a step down from Senor Pique in terms of class.

I hate chains and I especially hate chain Mexican restaurants. That is why Senor Pique is the shit. Some of the best fish tacos around. I highly recommend this place as a lunch stop. You should also get a Sol cerveza to compliment the food, but I think I am partial to that beer over other Mexican beers because that's my girlfriend's name. Happy eating!

Live in the neighborhood and somehow passed by the Mexican restaurant daily without giving it a thought to go on in. Tonight, we had only a short amount of time so our family of three stopped in. Chips and queso were excellent as was the service. It was super clean and the waiter attended to our soda refills frequently. We will be back.

Went Tuesday night. First time. Dining partner hadn't been before either. Chips and salsa were standard fare. We both got a margarita . . . hers frozen, mine not. Quite fine. I got the good dish on this one . . . doesn't always happen! Tostadas (covered with Mexican ground beef, beans, lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes and Queso Fresco). Three to the order for $9.89. Comes with one side. Somehow I got to order two: selected Esquites: corn, Epazote herbs, mayo, Queso Fresco, chile-lime seasoning; and Quesadillita de hongos: cilantro corn tortilla covered with melted Chihuahua, sliced fresh mushrooms and a generous slice of avocado. The tostadas were rather large for three to the order. The meat was tender and tasty, well-accented by the other ingredients. The Esquites was absolutely incredible: never tasted anything like this before. I could tell it was canned corn (some disappointment there), but it didn't detract whole-heartedly from the dish. There was definite heat from the Epazote herbs. The Quesadillita was stupendous! Especially when you took each bite with a little piece of fresh avocado! Dining partner got a combo of cheese enchilada, pork tamale and chicken burrito. Comes with rice and beans, but she wanted an additional side and chose: Quesadillita de jalapenos -- same as mine, but with jalapenos instead of mushrooms and avocado. We tasted each others Quesadillitas. She liked mine better. I liked mine better. Her rice and beans were a throw-away. Best of the entree was the cheese enchilada. She said the pork was dry, and chicken burrito was just OK. What was especially fascinating was this place has 17 sides from which to choose, including some soups. Every entree doesn't automatically come with the standard crappy rice and beans. I'll be back . . . will try the cactus side and the hominy soup next time!

Crispy chips, on the thick side, for hefting the fresh salsa. Server was attentive, brought chips and a friendly approach to the table. The salsa was pulpy and had kung-fu jalapeños, cuz they be kickin'. A not much garlic, no cilantro style salsa. Chicken enchiladas mole were good w/ balanced complex flavors. Recommend the Banderas for enchilada lovers. The tacos al pastor were tasty, but dry. That could be due to late afternoon and getting a lunch batch instead of a dinner batch, though.

Ms T and I met the D's at Senor Pique for dinner. We had eaten here once before and (before Yelp) were not overwhelmed, but decided to try it again. This West County establishment has a pretty commercial feel. I don't know if they are operated by some larger organization or a part of a chain of some sort. The location and ambiance are fine. The night we were there (a Saturday), there was live music, playing at an ear shattering level so that conversation was pretty much impossible for much of the meal. Don't go here if you want to talk, when they have the live music. Chips and salsa are complementary. The chips are completely commercial (as in Tostito's Restaurant Style type). There were two salsas. A very thin green avocado and tomatillo style, without much flavor was the best. The red sauce was pureed canned tomato with a sledge hammer application of cumin and nothing else. If you care about the traditional chips and salsa course, this is a zero stars, truly amateur attempt. Honestly a jar of grocery store salsa would be better. We had an order of guacamole. This was fine, coarsely chopped avocado with tomato and tons of onion. It needed a little lime and salt, but I would prefer less onion. Excessive raw onion in everything is a peeve of mine as well as of Mrs T. I hate to have that taste in my mouth a day later, like I have smoked a cigar. Mr D ordered the Corn Masa Boat, which is for some reason also called a huarache. I agree it is shaped like a huarache and a boat at the same time. It was covered with chopped carne asada, black beans and some salsa. I did not sample it, he seemed to like it and it did look pretty good. Ms D ordered the pork chile verde, which was sliced pork loin in a thickened green sauce. I did not try it, but was concerned about the loin being dry. However, it had plenty of the thick sauce. Ms T had chiles rellenos, one with ground beef and one with cheese. She had black beans and a quesadilla with mushrooms on the side. The beef stuffed chile with some black beans was pretty good. They do use chiles poblanos which had good flavor. There was not much seasoning in the beef. The cheese used to stuff the other chile was billed as queso Chihuahua. Unfortunately the availability of acceptable queso Chihuahua is getting questionable and Senor Pique does not have a good source. This was processed cheese and they may just as well use Provel or white Cheese Whiz. It was not acceptable. I ordered a special of the day, tacos de cochinita (shredded pork loin seasoned with achiote) and sides of papas picositas and frijoles charros. The three tacos were juicy to the point of turning the corn tortillas quickly to mush. So the meat was not dry. The flavors were OK, not great. It was uninspired, for a special item. My biggest complaint was the relatively small quantity of food for $11. Nearly $4 for each of these tiny taco's was a shock. If they had been great, fine, but they were not. The papas were very oniony, but otherwise OK with lime, chile and a good salt level. The frijoles charros were the best thing I had, with reasonably well balanced flavors, but the serving was maybe a quarter cup of beans in all. Our service was good, but all of the side orders were cold or nearly so when served. Senor Pique is over rated by diners who are impressed with the menu offerings and forget that it needs to be executed well. Again I get the feeling that they are trying to offer too many things. The items on the menu are similar to things I have experienced in Mexico, but fall way short of greatness. There was nothing in the four dinners or eight sides that make me say, "I have to go back and have this again." This is an attempt to be farther up the scale of sophistication than home cooking. I applaud them for moving away from burritos! Me? I'll take well done home cooking any time.

Instead of a full size appetizer dip, you can order a side of queso blanco (white cheese) to go with your complimentary chips. Sometimes I mix the salsa with the cheese. This way your appetizer only costs ~$3. By the way, if you're used to the salsa at Casa Gallardo, this salsa might have a little bite. The white cheese will help tame it. My husband got tamales with his choice of 2 sides for $11. One of his sides was the cactus, but it was mixed with lots of onion, which seemed to overpower the taste of the cactus, so he probably wouldn't order this again. I had the steak fajitas, which were pretty darn good. I particularly like the way they cooked the steak, and I was given 3 tortillas. I want to say this cost about $13. The food was pretty good, but I might have preferred if the entrees were just a dollar or two less.

Just walked in and right back out. Was seated in the front open section at a dirty table. After getting up and finding a cloth to clean the table myself, I realized that most of the tables were filthy- along with the wood railings and general fixtures of the restaurant. Gross. After all this- we were never greeted. Got up and walked out. Sad really.

Again I am a fan. i had the creamy poblano shrimp enchiladas. marvelous, and my dining partner had the tacos al pastor ( pulled pork) - all a fav. Great food. Great service. Great value.

ok so I've visited Hacienda and thought this place is awesome. Then I visited Senor Pique and it's really just as Awesome too. The patio is small and it's not like the Wonderland Hacienda is, but the food was really great! and the portions are enough for easily two people to share. I chose the chile rellenos (really tasty and perfectly cooked!!) my sides the hmm can't recall the but some sort of potato cake and then the chicken tortilla soup, which was down right amazing! Loaded with chicken and the smokey flavor was really mouth watering. After we finished and thinking we were all done, the waiter twisted me arm, not literally, into the Chongo -- O---M----G! Cheesecake + fried....yum! This tasty dessert is cheesecake inside of a flour tortilla, wrapped like a present and fried, drizzled with honey and served warm! Don't use the spoon just use your hands!

All of the food is good here. Their salsa is way better than the ketchupy stuff they give you at El Maguey. Don't let this places appearance fool you. From the outside, it looks like just another generic mexican place. Yeah, the place looks like it used to be an O'charlies, but the food is so good that it doesn't matter. Try this place once and you'll see why you should stop going to El Maguey.

We came here for dinner last night and man, was it good! I got the senor burrito with steak and my boyfriend ordered enchiladas. White queso, lean juicy steak, and Mexican rice with bits of potato, carrot, and peas gave my entree an edge over all the other burrito, beans, and rice clones. We read that they have live music every Friday and we'll certainly be back to enjoy that. I also like that you can see what's going on in the kitchen, actually see them cooking your meal, through glass cut above the booths. The service was phenomenal, even for a fairly busy night. The manager stopped by to ask us how everything was tasting, demonstrating the importance of customer service to this place. There were a lot of unusual authentic Mexican dishes on the menu and when my boyfriend went to order the enchiladas de mole, the waiter said he would bring out the sauce so he could sample it first. Good thing he did, cause it was very bitter (an acquired taste, to say the least). So he ordered a different kind of enchilada, which was awesome. We both agreed, though, that the steak burrito was even better.

Place was empty and the service was very slow. Overpriced. Food was average at best. Will never be back.

Senor Pique is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in St. Louis and easily my favorite in the county. The menu at this restaurant is not the same typical Mexican menu you see recycled at nearly 90% of the Mexican restaurants out there. You will see unique and authentic dishes and sauces which really make this restaurant a treat. The decor is nice while the restaurant is a bit on the large side. Overall, it's definitely a place to check out and stretch yourself to order something other than a burrito, chimichanga, enchiladas, etc.

I was reading the other reviews, and my first thought was, "Oh yeah, I guess Senior Pique *does* serve food!" The real joy of Senior Pique, however, is the $2 margaritas in the upstairs bar. The bar is well-stocked with fresh tortilla chips, and the staff are friendly, and quick to remember regulars. They always ask if you'd rather not have salt on the rim of your glass, and are quick to bring out glasses of water. The bar is rarely crowded, but the outside patio gets pretty full when the weather is nice. The place has a really neighborhood-y vibe too it. I nice place to stop off for a quick, cheap drink on a weekday night.

This is one of my all time favorite Mexican places in the St. Louis area. They have the usual stuff that you find at almost every other Mexican restaurant only the bonus is they have much more as well. A lot of the authenticate stuff has a very unique taste that I think some people either love or hate. I have had some friends who actually say they hate Senor Pique and I think its primarily because they have become a custom to the 'slop Mexican' style that most other places serve up. Granted there are times where I get a craving for the 'slop', but when I want some more flavor in my food this is where I go....

Just like the street vendors in Tijuana make 'em! And just like Tijuana, the staff doesn't seem to grasp English all that much. Get the tacos.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant for their Margaritas! The wait staff are all fun and enjoyable also. If you are a regular, get ready for hugs and extra smiles. Chips and salsa are good, salsa verde is my favorite. Definitely order the green rice. My only complaint is that every once in a while they change the menu and end up removing something that I order all of the time. Like the refried Black beans.

We went here for lunch. The restaurant was not very busy yet as it was still early. We first ordered Queso with our complimentary chips and salsa. My daughter, husband and I ate our chip basket to the bottom and when I went to pick it up to hand to the waitress I noticed a dead fly in the bottom of the basket!!! She apologized but didn't act like it was a big deal. Needless to say, my appetite was ruined as was my teenage daughter's. The manager came by to check on us, and I told him about the dead fly. He didn't seemed to concerned. We will not ever be back to this restaurant!

Used to love this place. Food quality is way down and service is worse. No different than any mid-west wanna be mex restaurant now. Sad sad, used to be stellar

The place is inviting and clean inside. The bar area is festooned with soccer scarves and banners but only ESPN is on the TVs. The margaritas vary from handmade to out of a beer tap. Not kidding. The handmade Avion Margarita is light and quite nice but still has a slight artificial lemonade taste to it. The cheaper Margarita Altos off the tap is stronger in flavor and somehow better. Quite a few people around me were complimenting the mojitos. I saw one bartender drop a knife to the bar floor and pick it up to use again to slice limes. Shit happens but he should know better. People are watching. The guacamole is well done but for the avocados not being quite ripe. The salsa tastes like canned tomatoes with no much going for it. The chips are good. I had the tacos al pastor. They were nice. There was a lovely flavor to the pork that complemented the sliver of pineapple. In addition, a creamy salve verde accompaniment went well with the street tacos. The rest of the menu is small in options but a good selection. The kids menu is $5.99 which should be cheaper if they want to draw me in to eat a $10 adult platter plus guacamole and drinks. Kids are free on Wednesday or something so maybe that's the day for people with kids. The staff were attentive and food arrived in good time. In all, it was a good first visit but it would not replace my favorite Mexican restaurant Pueblo Solis though they have the pork dishes Pueblo Solis lacks. Nor does it compete in the high end of margaritas and Mexican faire with Clayton's Cantina Loredo.

I usually come here for happy hour where steak and chicken quesadilla and chips and dip are cheaper w the purchase of a drink. I like the quality here better than some of the other places around the area. Service and atmosphere is fine. Definitely recommend the fish tacos.

The Margaritas were weak, the service was beyond terrible and the food was mediocre. I would prefer Taco Bell. If last evening was typical, I don't know how they remain in business.

Today on Cinco De Mayo we went and had a great meal, grwat service and enjoyed the grwat great atmosphere. The only negative is they offered you to join their text messages and get 15 % off and you couldn't use it because of the maritagita specials.

Nothing to terrible but nothing outstanding either. So in the mood for mediocre Mexican? Swing on in :) Chips where, as other mentioned, likely from a 50 pound bag in the kitchen. Serving sizes were good and staff was friendly. So in a bind swing by with the kids and fill them up :)

NOTICE: If you like the Mexican restaurants where you order your dinner by number and it is the same number regardless of the restaurant...stay away from this place. If, on the other hand, you appreciate hand-crafted food then you need to check them out. Notes on the meal: - They use Serrano peppers in their salsa. This is great for me because I can't eat jalapeño but love spicy stuff. Also, I think the Serrano imparts a more flavorful heat. - The steak in their steak tacos has a great charcoal taste! - Their tortillas are house-made, small like you see in Mexico, and paper-thin. Also, they are a delicious ingredient as opposed to just serving as a vehicle for transporting the goodness to your mouth. - The waitress recommended the shrimp tacos for me and I loved every bite! Delicately cooked and served in a smoky, creamy chipotle sauce along with avocados, black beans and queso fresco. Simply amazing! - Mine came with cilantro rice. Not rice with flecks of cilantro but green rice flavored with cilantro. Delicious! - Tasty flan...big enough to share. - Pig sinks in the bathroom! Don't take my 4-star rating as an indication that anything was wrong with the place or the meal. Everything was great but somehow it just wasn't quite a full 5-star experience. I took a couple of photos on this trip and may add others when I go back...because I am most assuredly going back!

Really great atmosphere. Salsa was amazing... One of my favorites out of all the Mexican restaurants I go to. My problem here was with the server. She was extremely nice. However, she was pushing the special like CRAZY. First she went on a big description about how it used to be on the menu and they took it off and all the servers were mad about it. And then she described it like it was the best thing ever. And she said "it's my favorite thing I've ever had here" (it was a steak sandwich) and then later contradicted herself by saying she was a vegetarian?? So I told her I wanted something else and then she said "are you sure you don't want to get the special? We may not have it ever again" so I ended up getting it because I really trusted her. However, it was really not good at all. Actually kind of gross. And she recommended the black bean soup and said it was AMAZING and it was actually bad. Tasted like a can of black beans. So, all that being said, I feel kind of duped because I feel like maybe she was going to get some sort of promotion if she sold a certain number of specials. Also, we realized that what she sold us was the most expensive thing on the menu at $14. Which I didn't realize before ordering it. Anyway, a little disappointed. I will definitely be back for something different, but just a heads up about the specials.

One of the best Mexican restaurants I have been too. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. As well as keen on whats good and to your liking they also are willing to swap out certain things on dishes. The chips and salsa are a plus and they will keep them coming. Prices are just right for the quality of foid and service you get here.

Great, fresh food, more authentic than all the other local americanized mexican places. Good service, best margaritas in town and only $1.99 margaritas during lunch, cant beat it. The owners are always there working hard and its good to see, its nice to spend your money at a family owned restaurant. I would deffinately reccomend this place and look forward to going back soon

My daughter loves this place, I have friends that love this place but it's always been underwhelming for me and this last visit certainly didn't help. With a new waiter that took forever to take care of basic needs (like 10 minutes for a glass of water) the service overshadowed what was actually pretty good food on this visit. My order was the beef tostados (pretty decent) and the sopapilla (pretty good). Also ordered was the guacamole (I would order again) and fish tacos (also pretty good). Decent quality, usually decent service and decent food but nothing outstanding. It's convenient and others like it so I keep going.

Best Mexican food in St. Louis. Our family comes here often. The food is authentic Mexican, the service is superb, and the Margaritas are excellent and priced low. Most of the menu items are from (I'll call her Mama) who started the business. Mama built the original menu which doesn't have much "Gringo" food, although there is a Gringo section on the menu. Their sauces and meats have a deep down Mexican flavor that only comes from scratch preparation. These folks do it right!

I can't believe people flock here. It's sad. The meat is so dry because it's frozen then reheated. I cant believe the frozen corn on the cob would be edible by anyone's standard. The atmosphere is okay but dusty with peeling paint off the wall. Almost makes you feel like you've taken a trip to Mexico, problem is the food is awful here. If your gonna try it, good luck. You've been warned. Btw, I am not a food snob.

This place is my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. We drive 30 minutes out of our way to come here. It's great on the family friendly side but also if you go kid free to enjoy a great happy hour in the bar. The food is always outstanding and the service always friendly. Beautiful atmosphere and has a great patio when the weather is nice. The tacos are my favorite items on the menu, specifically the shrimp, the tacos al pastor, chicken, and fish...entire menu is as authentic as you can get.

WOW!! What a great place! Finally real Mexican food!! Where do I begin? THE FOOD!! The food was amazing. Nothing like what I was used to. Everything taste fresh and unique. The flavors that they put together with their dishes are right on point! I was blow away. When I asked where they came up with these recipes I was told that the owner is from Mexico City and all the recipes are his mother's family secrets! Thanks for sharing. The guacamole and cheese dip with a little chorizo was a great start. The Fish Taco's are the best I have ever tried. My husband got the shrimp enchiladas also great!! The drinks are awesome as well. My husband loves Mexican beers. He ordered the Michelada Pique with Modela Negra, very good. I love Margaritas but hate the Calories and have yet to find one that taste good until now! It was perfect!! just enough lime mix to keep it tasting like a margarita but cuts the calories way down!! We were so impressed with everything from start to finish. We will for sure be going back!! Thanks Senor Pique!!!

We eat here pretty frequently. The service is normally not very good. I mean, last night the waiter introduced himself to us twice because it was so long in between him greeting us- delivering drinks and then coming back to take our order. We had to laugh. However- the food is excellent. The salsa verde is excellent over the steak salad- you don't even need dressing. My husband orders the Allambre- also very good. And my kids actually EAT their dinner here. If that service could improve, I'd give it 5 stars.

Senor Pique is not very bueno. I came here on a Wednesday night, and the place was pretty dead except for the bar area because a group of rowdy guys was watching a game. Our waitress was really sweet and brought my mom and I chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. Unfortunately, the chips and salsa was the best thing about my meal. I ordered the steak tacos with a side of "epazote flavored green rice" and Mexican corn-on-the-cob. The steak was really greasy and over-cooked, and the corn on the cob had an overwhelming freezer-burn taste which was not pleasant when combined with the flavoring profile of the spices they chose to smother the corn with. My mom ordered Shrimp Poblano Enchiladas which she thought was too rich and cheesy. I'm sure this would be a great place for happy-hour with the cheap margaritas and tacos, but I probably wouldn't want to eat here again during normal dinner hours.

Food: -My group of 8 ordered a bit of everything. I liked my one taco al pastor. -Overall, no magic happened. My Texan friends were disappointed. It was just okay. Service: -NO. I made a reservation for 7:20 beforehand, and called while on the way there to let them know we'd be a few minutes late. When we got there on time, girl in the front told us to wait another 15 so they could set up the table, while a few of my little Baha'i friends were already delirious from fasting for the day. WHAT?! I don't understand why the fully-fluent-in-speaking-english-girl on the phone didn't just tell me the next available reservation would be around 7:45 instead. -Yes. Our attentive, adorable little hispanic waiters. But not enough to calm my fury.

My kids and I came for lunch on a off day from school. The service is always fast and friendly. A very large restaurant so there is never a wait for a table. Authentic Mexican food and an average size selection. Prices are maybe slightly higher than the competition but the quality and presentation of the food is top notch and worth the extra buck or two. There always seems to be drink specials going on for margarita lovers and the bar looks like a good place to have a beer. Kids menu could use some more variety. My kids always make a point to tell me how much they love the salsa here. It is on the mild side for me but definitely tasty. Overall a family friendly setting and moderately priced. We will be back.

I came here for lunch with a buddy yesterday. At first glance, I thought it would be a typical Americanized Mexican place. Looks can be deceiving. For $2.99, you can get one smallish taco (the ones that are typically served in Mexican restaurants on Cherokee). I got the al pastor & steak. Super delish! The green salsa that came with the tacos was filled with yummyness. Major foodgasms! The service was impeccable, & ambiance was cool. All of this in Ballwin. Who would have known? I wish there was a place like this in Arnold.

  • Tricia R.

Disappointing. After hearing about how authentic this place was and reading many of the positive reviews, I'm not sure what went wrong. The best thing I had all night was the guacamole, and thankfully I filled up on too much guac + chips. Sadly, everything else was terrible. The hubby's steak fajitas were horrible - I'm not sure what kind of "beef" it was, but it was tough and overcooked. I was really looking forward to it bc it smelled great. :( My fish tacos were also terrible - nowhere on the menu did it mention about the fish being fried...I guess I should've asked. The fish was fried and way too salty to eat. The side of rice was also not good and the corn was overdone. Guess we'll have to keep searching for a Mexican restaurant in Ballwin...so far, no luck!

  • Sara S.

I should have read the reviews before coming here. We were in the area but there's another well liked Mexican restaurant nearby and I wish we'd gone there. Aside from the salsa, which was too spicy for my kids, the food had no flavor. I'm not talking spiciness, it was bland! I got three chicken enchiladas with different sauces. The chicken was nothing but plain, shredded chicken. The sauces had no flavor. I had to pour the salsa from our chips on my meal to get any flavor. My husband had pork tacos with a side of potatoes and soup. He liked the potatoes and soup but said the tacos were very bland as well.

Authentic Mexican in Ballwin, imagine that! A higher quality alternative to the crappy El Maguey. For a healthy choice, I order the tasty and spicy grilled chicken they use in the fajitas and combine it with yellow rice and dump some of the chip salsa on top for an off-the-menu basic meal that satisfies without filling you up too much.

Terrible chips and appetizers. The chips were stale and the appetizers were sub-par. My friends and I asked for a new batch of chips and the second batch was just as bad. It is pretty pricey restaurant to have such terrible food. Would not go back, ever.

Im always game for good Mexican and this place was pretty good, kind of pricey for what you get though. Started off with an awesome Red Margarita (not colored red at all, but uses Malibu Red Rum and tequilla )- really good on the rocks, I'd go back just for those. Chips and salsa, per the norm, I like a little chunkier salsa, but had good flavor. Interesting and minimalistic menu; quite a few different things than the typical Mexican fare, and quite a few soups. Dinner was tasty, I had a chicken chimmi, chicken had a smokey, chipotle/mole marinade and the rest was good but not worth remebering. Then I splurged a bit for a molten chocolate dessert. While it was moist and chocolatey, the 'molten' was more or less chocolate liquer (not my favorite) and unfortunately topped with nondairy whipped cream, which they could have left off with no problem. Overall some hit and miss items for them, but again still spendy, I think all meals were $10 or more.

I went here last Saturday night with my family. One of our orders was a steak salad. We got 5 little slices of steak which had no flavor, one little slice of avocado, so for the price, was a total rip off. Went there for lunch today and ordered a bowl of chicken tortilla soup. Well, it wasn't soup, it was just a bowl of broth with a couple of slivers of chicken. On the side was maybe a teaspoon of cheese, it was not queso fresco but rather a little shredded american cheese. One half slice of avocado and some fried tortilla strips. May as well have gotten a bunch of broth in a coffee cup. Definately not worth the money. We will not be back.

My wife and I really enjoyed our food here. My wife got the fish tacos and "her tongue danced with rapture and delight". It had a side corn on the cob with lime and chille seasoning and a side of green rice. I had Steak Alambre Banquetero and it was delicious. It was tasty tender cut up steak with peppers onions and melted cheese on top, much like fajitas but better. We had queso to dip our chips and it was white cheese with some pico de gallo. Not spicy but gooey and flavorful. My son got kids quesadilla and beans for his side. Server, Jojo, was attentive and really knew the menu and gave good suggestions. Highly recommended.

  • Joyce K.

We drove 33 miles to get there and it was worth the trip. Chips were light and airy, salsa was great, guac was perfect and the top shelf margaritas perfect, albeit expensive, however good sized. The wait staff was well-trained and attentive. Entrees were delicious and the proper size. This was the Mexican food we were craving. If you want good Mexican food in West County this is the place to go.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
