What was once an excellent place to eat has steadily gone downhill through the years. At my last visit my breakfast was mediocre, and I had to fight with the management after I was overcharged over 50% on my bill. I won't be going here again for a long time.

Breakfast is always good. Pies are too. Nicely priced kids menu. The big, old, lady who runs the place is friendly enough, but really rude and unwilling to compromise on over-charging. The chicken strips and fries that our son had, were really good! Pretty standard when it comes to the comfort food and a little over-priced. Husband got the spaghetti w/burnt sauce. The alfredo needed more sauce and I was charged for the 2, scarcely buttered pieces of garlic bread. DO NOT get the chicken with it! It turned out to be tough and after going home and throwing it up, I found out it was bad! The mashed potatoes are real and good. The waitresses came in with outside food, then went to the bathroom to change into their work clothes, used the toilets(leaving remnants-form your own idea) and DID NOT wash their hands! I guess they really only have 3 things going for them, at this point: breakfast, coffee and pie. Eat at your own risk with everything else. DO NOT attempt to confront the female owner! All this after having been there twice. The restaurant itself is nice, good parking and large bathrooms, but everything else was so very disappointing for us.

Generally speaking, I am not a fan of this type of restaurant. But I am a sucker for Granny Shaffer's omelettes and their chicken fried steak. It is comfort food at its best. I prefer this over Cracker Barrel, Waffle House, ihop, etc. If I'm going to eat some "down home" grub, then Granny Shaffer's is where it's at. I haven't had their pie in over a decade but I seem to recall chocolate pie with lots of whipped cream and strawberry pie in the summertime being really good when I went there as a kid. Maybe it still is.

Great homemade blackberry pie "to go" for $12. Make sure you're not taking the pie to old people with dentures unless you really don't like them. The seeds will drive them nuts. Mediocre chef salad served with Hidden Valley Ranch packets of salad dressing. Looked like packages of Oscar Meyer bologna-type meat, torn into strips, and thrown on huge pieces of iceberg. I guess the chef didn't believe in the importance of food presentation. "Eh" chicken fried steak. Large quantities of food, but you really DON'T want to eat it all (at all).

Stopped by on a whim and had a great meal. The pancakes are huge. The chicken noodle stew stuff was in need of a little salt but also great. Would go again, but next time for breakfast.

Traveling Route 66 and thus place was recommended in several of the guidebooks. Beware that your Google Map info may be wrong - map said it was closed today (a Saturday), but called to be sure and they were open after all. There is room to park a large RV. Friendly staff, but service is slow, so don't be in a hurry. Whiffs of smoking when we first walked in, but non-smoking seating area was better than most. Decor looks like 70s, green walls, dark furniture and older light fixtures. Music was instrumental, elevator-type. Heaping servings and a big pot of coffee brought to table. Fried catfish was better than most catfish houses, and green tomato relish was better than many boutique restaurants near Atlanta that charge waaaay more for not nearly as good. Filling, friendly. We'd stop here again.

We were hesitant to try this restaurant after reading the reviews. We stopped for breakfast. The food was very good. Our waitress was the worst one working at the time. While waiting forever to have our order taken and watching the other waitresses, I noticed we just got a bad one. The rest seemed to do a good job. I ordered my eggs over easy, one came correct the other was over cooked. But even at that the food tasted good and was plentiful. My husband had the French toast and he said it was very good. We would go back again, and hopefully get a different waitress.
