A down home kind of place in a Chinese way. Food is much better than the restaurant's presence in a nothing strip mall would suggest. Recommend the Eight Delight Tofu Hot Pot; egg rolls were good also. I think this is family run - and they were very friendly. Would eat here again if staying at nearby hotel for early morning flight.

My family and I are on our way from CA to NC and are staying at the nearby La Quinta hotel. We needed a quick bite and this was nearby. I read the online reviews and decided to give a try despite the one bad review. It is set in a little strip mall and I wasn't sure if it would be good. Let me tell you, this is one of those hidden gems. The food was so good and the service was great. We even carried on a conversation with the server. She was so sweet. She asked all about us. We learned that her sister was a former Oakland resident. We fed three adults with a few appetizers, entrees, and drinks for $30. That's a really good deal where I'm from. Egg rolls were super. The sweet and sour soup was out of this world. I promised her I would write a review because of everything was so good. Granted it was a slow night and we were the only ones there. I hope this place gets noticed more. They put a lot of effort into everything right down to the presentation of the food. Go there. You won't regret it.

terrible food and terrible service. ordered the food for delivery. food is mediocre at its best and soggy. combo was all mixed up in the box. entree quantity was very low for $9. gave the asian delivery lady $10 for tip and asked $6 back as the restaurant is less than a mile away and they charge $3 for delivery. She gives me $4 back and asks to keep $6 to herself. I said no and she slams all the $1 bills to my hand and leaves yelling NO GOOD on her way out. terrible people for customer service business esp when the food in below average category.

Fantastic little restaurant. The restaurant is in a little strip mall near the Bayview hotel which is near the airport. I stopped in late on a Tuesday night. The first thing I noticed is that the place is very clean. There is plenty of seating and they have a full Chinese and Thai menu. My server was very friendly and she asked me about the kinds of food and flavors that I like. I ordered the garlic chicken and told her that I love garlicky food. I was amazed when my food came. First came the hot and sour soup which was the best I ever had. Then came the garlic chicken. It looked almost too good to eat so I took a picture of it then I ate every bit of it. The sauce was rich and flavorful and it had the perfect garlicky flavor that I love. I'll be back and I recommend this delightful place to everyone.

I recently visited Hunan Kitchen for the first time for lunch with some co-workers. They had been there before and stated that the menu was new, so you may want to take that into consideration when reading the older reviews. I ordered the beef and brocoli lunch special which includes fried wontons, a crab rangoon, and fried rice. The food was pretty good as far as Chinese food goes. Not the most amazing but certainly nowhere near the worst I've had. I'd return for the food and proximity to work for sure. However, there seemed to be some sort of dispute amongst the staff while we were there. The woman working the front of house was nice enough to our table, but then she'd walk back and start screaming at someone else. It was very uncomfortable. I'd considered knocking the review down to even 2 stars as a result, but I didn't want to deprive someone of some decent Chinese food if it was possibly an off day or random occurence.

I'm pissed. Not only did I ruin my diet by splurging for lunch (my fault!), I ruined it with bad food. And by bad, I mean REALLY bad. I was craving Chinese food for lunch, so I decided to hit up Hunan Kitchen to satisfy the little voice in my tummy that wanted some REAL nomnoms, not the rabbit food I've been feeding it lately. A coworker had a menu printed out from a previous visit, so I checked it out. I immediately went for the hot braised chicken lunch special: hot braised chicken, fried rice, hot and sour soup, crab rangoon, a wonton, AND a fortune cookie for $5.99! Holy moly! I subbed the wonton for an extra crab rangoon. I called in my order and was on my way. The food was ready exactly 15 minutes later, and it was hot. Not bad. I opened my container, and it looked good enough. I tried a bite of the hot braised chicken. Bland. Fatty. NOT spicy. Hmm. I had a bite of the fried rice. Bland. I tried the hot and sour soup. Bland. Gooey. Desperate at this point, I tried the crab rangoon. TERRIBLE. Soggy. Old. I finished my food, but it wasn't good. And now I'm kicking myself for consuming that mess. Hopefully it stays down and doesn't pay me a visit later. Ugh. You KNOW it's bad when the best part of the meal was the fortune cookie. Guess what my fortune said? "This week, you have a good head in matters of money". You're WRONG, Mr. Fortune cookie. Because if I had a good head in matters of money, I wouldn't have spent 6 bucks HERE. Yuck. Never again!

Went there for Chinese food and was actually surprised. I read the last review, but I was hungry and tired of driving. I also brought someone with me and here is what I found. Ordered the egg rolls- one for each. Hands down, best egg roll I've had in any Chinese restaurant. I asked why - egg rills are made fresh daily and cooked to order. Ordered the Kung Pao Shrimp and asked for extra spicy. The vegetables were freshly cooked with a good amount of shrimp. Sauce was perfectly blended; not too much so that's it a stew mess. Just the right amount of thickness. And believe me, when I said extra spicy, they did just that. Other persons ordered sesame chicken. I had a bite. The bite that u tried, same. Consistency of the sauce was done perfectly. The chicken was a little overcooked, but prefer that from under. Other person ordered shrimp lo mein. Once again, this was great. Not an oily mess, right amount of veges and the shrimp was good. Not oily at all. Overall, great experience. Only took about 8 minutes to receive main dishes at dinner. Highly recommend the egg rolls!

Okay, 5 stars might seem excessive, but this is hands down my favorite Chinese food in St Louis, so I'm sticking with it. Best crab rangoons around. Love the garlic chicken, hot braised chicken (boneless), beef fried rice, meat-on-a-stick (I can't think of what it's called), and hot and sour soup. Any order to go is ready in 15-20 minutes, call ahead to pick up and it will likely be waiting for you when you arrive-just don't forget your number! I wish it was open on Sundays. Lately, they've started offering a limited Thai menu, as well.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
