Great lunch spot and one of the only non-chain restaurants (that I know of) in North County. A very quaint spot with menu options to please even the pickiest of eaters. Both times that I have gone, I have had a pasta dish and have thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend the spinach-artichoke dip, as well. We couldn't get enough of the chips!

Hendel's is my personal favorite restaurant. For an afternoon luncheon with the girls, a birthday bash with a group of friends or a late night date night, this is the place! The food is excellent and the service is outstanding. Show up with high expectations, they will be met!

I brought my mom up for Sunday brunch a week ago for her birthday. She'd never been, nor had I, and boy am I glad we decided to try someplace new! We'd both been driving past Hendel's for at least a couple years, and after we looked online and saw the brunch menu, we knew that was for us. She had a veggie omelet, I decided on the steak and eggs...For the money we paid, it was easily the best meal either of us had had all year. The food came quickly, we were seated promptly, and the service was attentive without being annoying. Brilliant all around, Hendel's. Here's to you!

This quaint, little place hidden in the middle of the housing area and located next to a church is definitely a place to try if you haven't yet. We came here for a retirement luncheon so I didn't really know what to expect. We had pre-ordered our lunches ahead of time. We had the patio seating right in the middle of the fireplace and some trees and bushes. It was quite a lovely setting even though yesterday was a little too warm. They had the fan blowing for a little breeze which was nice. Our waitress was very attentive. I think we had at least 27 people there and she was able to get everyone their drink orders in a timely manner and seemed happy to serve us. They got the order out fairly quickly once our manager arrived and gave them the go ahead. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with fries and a pickle. It was delicious and I will definitely come back. The only thing I didn't like is the fact that there are actually 2 Saint Denis Streets in that town and my GPS took me to a complete opposite street which was nothing but a quiet residential area. The one that this place is actually in is called RUE St. Denis St. but even on their website, it doesn't state RUE. So be mindful of this little confusing thing. Otherwise, the service and the food were both fantastic!

Portobello mushroom veggie burger was delicious. The salmon BLT was amazing. They were packed for lunch making service very slow, but still courteous.

Always have a great time here, and tonight was nothing less than expected. Our waitress, Donna, went above and beyond what a server should do and was a true delight! Such a great experience!

It feels good to hit a food home run and Hendel's helped me do that! My coworker was celebrating his 25th anniversary - a cause for celebration. He asked me for suggestions and I sent him the lunch menu for Hendel's. Three days later and we arrived, a group of 17 with a desire to be back at work by 1:00. Hendel's delivered food for everyone in a very timely manner, even though they were pretty full with other lunch patrons. Quiches, salads, fish tacos, burgers, bbq sandwiches. I think we tried everything on the menu. Everyone loved their selections.. and of course since the company was paying we had a few desserts too! Even took a few back to the office for those who couldn't attend. Very nicely packaged. Our waiter did a fantastic job making sure our drinks were refilled and that we were on our way well within the allotted time. They also have the option of preordering lunches from a set menu, if you're in even more of a hurry. Highly recommend Hendel's for a group lunch!

This is an awesome place to come for lunch! I love this little hidden jewel! I've experienced nothing less than great customer service every time I've been. And the food is great and fresh every time!

I searched high and low for a decent restaurant to go to for lunch near my work by the Ameristar Casino. You'd think that I could find something in Historic St. Charles but all the reviews there spoke of lackluster food. Finally I settled on a 15 minute drive to Hendel's and boy am I glad I did. The garden is amazing. Had it not been 102 degrees out we would have gladly spend hours there. Instead we opted for the inside which was (almost) equally as quaint and charming. A far, FAR cry from most of the surrounding Florissant area. The garden has plenty of shade from both trees and an awning. There is a small fountain with an old bike for decor. Topped off with the large incandescent light string make me sure that I will be back here for a later dinner after it cools down a bit. The food we had was good but not spectacular. I have the feeling other things would have been better. I had the fried Tilapia sandwich with spinach and garlic aoli with fries (and, strangely, the best pickle I have ever had). The Tilapia was fishy but not in a bad way. Definitely not too greasy (a light light coating of breadcrumbs rather than caked on grease) It could have used just a bit more of the Aoli as that was struggling to cut through the french baguette and fish. My girlfriend had the chicken salad sandwich with coleslaw. She said the slaw had jalepenos in it so that could be an interesting change. She said she really really liked the chicken salad. Next (lunch) time, I will either try a burger (my high Wisconsin standards have yet to be met in St. Louis) or the salmon BLT which sounded excellent. For dessert we had a "salted caramel vanilla crumble" It was excellent but not quite a 10/10. The caramel was definitely salty but just not quite enough for my taste. At least for lunch, the pricing is extremely good. $7-8 sandwiches that didn't leave us hungry and with dessert a tab of less than $25 was less than expected. The server was very nice but not overbearing. I would hesitate to give extreme praise but I was definitely content with the service. Bottom Line: I can not wait to come again! Ambiance: 10/10 Food: 8/10 Service: 7/10 Price: 8/10 Definitely the best in the area

So I started a new job this week in Hazelwood. THAT part was exciting. However, after working downtown (and being spoiled by all of the AMAZING eateries around!), I wasn't excited about working in a food wasteland. Enter Hendel's Market Cafe. How did I grow up in North County (which is NOT ghetto, btw!) without knowing about this place?!?! Oh, that's right -- I was perfectly content with Applebee's and Longhorn Steakhouse back then. *shudder* It's a cute little place tucked away in Old Florissant. Lots and lots of indoor seating, and some outdoor spots as well. Very cozy and charming. I had the spinach salad -- Fresh spinach, mushrooms, red onions, smoked bacon and chopped egg with hot honey bacon dressing. Mmmm, it was delicious! The dressing was pretty fantastic as well. And the salad was pretty large for a lunch portion. Definitely enough to fill me up. I was going to skip dessert at first, but then the waitress told me that they have homemade bread pudding. BREAD PUDDING?!?! And it's homemade?!? Yes, please! It was absolutely delicious. Warm, gooey, and flavorful. I didn't even mind that there were raisins in it. The whipped cream on top was sweet and fantastic. And the piece that was brought out to me was HUGE! Totally one of my top 5 bread pudding experiences. This place might be a regular haunt for me during the work week -- that is, unless I can find something better in NoCo to replace it.

I found this place to be outstanding. The outside patio offered shade and a very relaxing atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and provided prompt, courteous and attentive service. My wife and I shared a frittata and an order of French toast. The frittata included diced ham, grilled asparagus and shaved Parmesan. The French bread is made in house and came with pecans and raisins. I definitely recommend making the trek to Florrisant to give Hendel's Market a try.

Normally I would give this place a higher rating, however a group of girlfriends and I had planned to go there all week for our girl's night out only to arrive and have them tell us they decided to close early. They made this decision based on the lack of business throughout that evening. This is a big issue with me in regards businesses in general and can hurt you more in the long run that just biting the bullet and keeping your staff there and your lights on. My friends and I typically spend a couple of hundred dollars every time we go out which we did at 54th street cafe on Lindbergh. I am a business owner for over 20 years and this is just one of the little big things that can make or break a small family owned business. Get a grip! People count on you and plan their week with your place in mind. Such a let down.

By far, our favorite restaurant in St. Louis! There may be fancier places (no black napkins;) but none that are exceptional AND also a great value! My husband and I prefer Hendel's over Flemings and Citizen Kane's. The service is excellent & personal, and the menu (though limited) is still diverse (steaks, pasta, seafood & daily specials) We usually order a filet mignon & a seafood dish (salad & side included- no a la carte!), a bottle of wine & dessert for around $100--you can't beat that price! The brunches are also excellent, especially the holiday brunches ( Easter & mothers day.) Though Hendels is a little out of the way for us, the drive is well worth it.

I am in love with this place. I live in South City, but have no problem at all driving all the way to Florissant for it. The patio is gorgeous. The service and food is beyond impeccable. I discovered this place 7 years ago and I often reserve it for special occasions, although not because of price, as it is extremely well priced for the quality! I absolutely love having lunch on their patio in the summer. If you haven't tried it, do yourself a favor and check it out!!!!!!

What an adorable little place! Okay, I'm not familiar with North County at all, and had never even seen Old Town Florissant- so I guess you would consider me a "non-local"... It's laaate (3pm) on a Saturday and I'm with a friend who wants to check out lunch here... It's located in an adorable neighborhood... we walked by a lovely patio filled with tropical plants, small garden waterfall feature, huge fan blowing to help with the heat... but we sat inside. Also very nice inside, I walked around for a bit and spied where the piano/live music is supposed to be played on certain nights near the bar. I can't wait to come back and check out the atmosphere. We were seated fast (the place was practically vacant at 3pm - with the exception of a bridal shower occurring on the shaded patio section). Waiter: SO helpful and kindof adorable (in a "wow you're young" type of way) Ham & Swiss sandwich on a marble rye bread: excellent, though no dressing on it. I adore ham so much that I ate it plain. 1/2 Harvest Salad with honey mustard dressing: just your normal house salad, but with the darker and more nutritious lettuce pieces. Sidenote: it's a pet peeve of mine to get a salad and only have iceberg lettuce. It's not even filled with nutrients. Why should I waste time and shove it down my throat? So anyway, yay good lettuce!! Lemonade: umm nothing special. It might've been Minute Maid for all I could tell. Caramel Apple pie: YUMMMM. I was instantly transported to my favorite season of fall. FYI- I've decided that to come back here in Fall, and have a glass of wine on the patio, will be SO perfect it might become a weekly occurrence. I mean the neighborhood is so cute, I feel like I'm in New England or something. As we walked to our car, the church bells from next door were clanging. How picturesque :)

Great place! Great setting. Sat on back patio. Great food and the service was very good. It really was a great first experience. Fast forward. So that was fall of 2010. Forgot the exact date. I started the review and never returned to it. But.. I went a second time, maybe a month ago and slightly different review this time.. The main issue was service. Not sure if they guy was over worked or what, but on the order he missed an item off our order, fruit cup-not a big deal. Then we had to ask for coffee and water refills, and our food came out very slow plus there were other requests that had to be made twice. Oh and we had to ask for silverware. I am almost positive two tables that came after us received their food prior to us. But.....The food itself was great! We went for brunch and I was very very pleased on the food. I would have rather tipped the cooks than the waiter. I will visit there again, and hoping that was a one off situation.

Pros: Great atmosphere, crab cakes. Cons: Wine glasses too small, stuffed mushrooms. I love this place for a date night out, family meal or Sunday morning brunch! The patio is lovely and the recently expanded piano bar is a fantastic addition! I love Florissant, and nothing says Florissant like this quaint, historic building nestled in Old Town. I cannot recommend Hendel's highly enough! However, I do not recommend the stuffed mushrooms. They are very, very salty and have a strong spice which the waitress told us was tarragon, but tasted very odd. Now, the crab cakes - those are a different story. They are award-winning for a reason. Full of crab meat, crispy and delicious. The wine list is respectable, but they do need larger glasses so you can swirl the wine a bit without it sloshing over the sides. I also love the fact that they shop locally for most of the food. The veggies are always in-season and fresh.

My co-workers and I went to Hendel's for lunch on a Friday to celebrate an achievement. The place was surprisingly packed. And I'm not exagerrating. I was seriously concerned we wouldn't be able to get a table and would have to find somewhere else to go last minute. Luckily, we were seated pretty quickly. Our waiter was very friendly and patient with us first timers. I ordered the chicken salad which came with salad (I ordered the house). They also brought warm rolls to the table, which was a huge plus - we were hungry! The salad was fresh and your normal house/side salad. The house dressing is very summery with a nice lemon-y sweet taste to it. The chicken salad was ok - not great. I'd have to say my most agreed upon comment for our group trip is the surprise at the serving size. I thought their prices would be fair given a normal lunch sized entree. These servings were paltry. Even our lightest eaters left concerned they'd need a snack as soon as we got back to work. Not worth the money for the size.

Just been here once, for brunch, but I was impressed by the charming space, the reasonable prices, solid waitstaff, and the above average food. In an area that to my knowledge offers little except more pedestrian chains, this is definitely a place to visit. Just a few blocks off Lindbergh but, thankfully, a world away.

This quaint, but modern eatery was excellent. My wife and I had read some reviews for restaurants in the area preceding our trip to St. Louis. This one was right down the street from our hotel and had good reviews. I know why! If we didn't have our one year old with us, we would have even ate out in the patio where they had some live music about to start that evening. Great food, great service (and we just walked in on a Sat night at 6 no reservation, which was lucky) a pleasant environment and fair pricing. We'll be back every time we come to the St. Louis area! American classic dining with a business casual dress seeming the norm.

Found this hidden gem on Yelp! It's a cute little building. Apparently it's an old grocery store with a cute patio with an outdoor seating option. It was raining when we visited so, outdoor seating was not an option...bummer! They have a good selection of brunch options. A little something for everyone. I ordered the Mediterranean omelette and a half Salmon salad. Hubby ordered the Southwest omlette. Everything taste great and the service was on point except the omelette, the feta cheese was a little overwhelming. There was a lot of cheese! We had a little wait when we arrived. About 20 minutes but, we found a covered area on the patio and passed time taking in the beautiful scenery.

Finally, my 1st visit. Not sure why I've procrastinated getting here. Loved the quaintness of the restaurant. It has that country setting feel even though it's in the heart of NoCo. It's not on a main street; it nestled in the midst of a quiet neighborhood. There's outdoor patio seating also. It was a light evening for me, so I settled on the Loaded Kale Salad and Crab Cakes. So good! I had ranch w/my salad instead of the suggested Lemon Poppyseed. The crab cakes came 2 on a plate, awesome flavor and not too much filler. Lemon Drop martini had the right amount of kick, I had to force myself not to have two. Looking forward to going back.

This little place is a gem tucked away in Florissant, Mo. Of course I found on Yelp from all the raving reviews and cool pictures. But I had to reach out to a North County friend and she confirmed I would absolutely LOVE this place as she does. So, off I go on a Tuesday afternoon for a lunch meeting with three compadres and I. The place definitely has a homey/comfort feel to it. If not paying attention you could actually miss it. It is tucked away in what looks very much like a residential area and the building itself looks like a large old house. But nonetheless, they have no idea what the word disappointed means b/c it is not happening there. So the four of use ordered the following: Salmon BLT with chicken enchalida soup (special), Gyro with chicken enchilada soup (special), Hendel's Burger with side salad, and Chipotle Burger with fries. Let's just say that there was not a resemblance of food left on anyone's plate! My Salmon BLT was superb. The salmon was cooked perfectly, and just melted in my mouth. All of the ingredients came together to make perfect taste. Despite this little gem not being very close to me...I will find a reason or two to go back and visit again and again. And you should too!

My family and I had a nice dinner yesterday at Hendel's. The service was great. I don't recommend the drinks at all. I tried the pomelo punch and the margarita and were not satisfied with either. The Hendel burger was very delicious and so was the chicken philly. I wasn't too crazy about the sirloin and the pork chop. I tasted everyone's food of course. The sirloin and pork chop were kind of dry and flavorless but the mashed potatoes were excellent.

I've spent over 10 years working as a server bartender and manager. I can tell when someone legitimately is happy at work and wants to take care of you. Had lunch at the bar today. All the staff reccomendations were spot on from wine to food. Even though there was a large group having lunch I never felt neglected. In fact I never had to ask for anything. The toasted ravioli were fantastic. The addition of Italian sausage enhances a staple item. The bruschetta was clean and refreshing. My favorite was the pastrami sandwich. I don't live close but I will return due to the warmth of staff, excellent wine list, and great food.

Great Place I wish were closer to my home! Food is far above average for the prices paid. Servers, Bartender, and Hostess are as good as they get. The bar area and main dining room are a bit too loud for me, but the 'tented' area was fine and I know, in good weather, the patio is great. We'll be back!

Hendel's is really good. I had gone there once before for a retirement luncheon and everyone raved about their food. The last time I was there was for my work going away party. I had the Hendel burger - A burger with bacon and cheddar on a pretzel bun, what could be better? The burger was as good as I expected and the fries come in a cute mini fry basket. My fiance had a French Dip type sandwich and really really liked it. I have only had sandwiches there, but my co-workers also really liked the fish tacos. The service was pretty good with big groups but parking is a bit of a pain. I have never eaten dinner here but even lunch has a good amount a patrons. Go and try it out!

Absolutely adorable! My friends and I (a party of 8) made reservations for an early dinner on Saturday for our senior prom. We had great service from the very classy and respectful staff. I ordered the wild mushroom pizza and it was delicious. Not to mention the great atmosphere! Hendels really set the mood for our night. We even had a photographer that came and snapped some pictures of us and the staff did not mind at all. I would recommend this place for a special event or a date. Loved it!

I have been to Hendel's market a handful of times and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. My only complaint is the price can be a little hi for what you get sometimes. But that is not really a complaint more just a realization that I had the last time I was there. I don't get as many chances to go here as I would like because cheaper options are available, but it does make a nice date night place. I really like their bruschetta and any of their salads are outstanding. I love sitting out on there enclosed patio any time of the year. In the winter they have it heated and it is perfect. I would recommend this place to just about everyone and I look forward to checking out there new addition next time as well.

I was out and about and ready to stop for lunch. There were all the usual's in plain site, but I wanted something different and exclusive to St. Louis. I yelped and found Hendel's. I have been back several times now. It is a quaint bed and breakfast style restaurant with a separate piano bar and outdoor sitting area. I have only been for Happy Hour. You have to try the spinach dip and the bruschetta. They both are truly amazing and only $3. Excellent customer service, good food and a good date spot.

This review is based on one dinner visit. I had a two hour layover in STL and wanted to see my best friend without eating at a chain or venturing too far from the airport. I also like wine. A quick Yelp search told me that Hendel's fit the bill. To start, I had the crab stuffed mushrooms and the crab cakes. I did not care for the mushrooms, as they had fennel, which was not listed on the menu. They were also swimming in some sort of a white gravy sauce, which was weird because they were fried. My friend had one and didn't like it either. The crab cakes, however, were done well. My friend had the stuffed portobello, which she really liked. We also split a bottle of the sparkling moscato, which really hit the spot! Service: We were two adults and one child. The table was a four-top with two settings, so I had to ask for a napkin and silverware. For some reason, the server only brought me a fork, so I had to ask for a knife later and then another fork, which got old. Also, I let them know that I had to be back at the airport in an hour and a half, but the service still didn't seem expedient. (I got back a few minutes before the plane left!) Bottom line: I think Hendel's is a cute little neighborhood place and if I lived around, I would definitely come back to try other dishes and meal times.

What a Gem! Went here with my sister for lunch one afternoon and we just could not believe that having grown up in the neighboring town of Ferguson, that we had never ever gone here. Well, we sure were happy that we chose this place for lunch. It was amazing. First off, the service was excellent. We were greeted immediately and seated within about 5 min of walking in the door. (Parking in the lot out back is sort of minimal, but there is plenty of parking on the streets around Hendel's so it's not big deal at all) Our waitress was super friendly and totally knowledgeable about the menu and how things are prepared and served so she was able to answer the few questions we had. We shared the crab stuffed mushrooms and truth be told, I would have loved to pick up the plate and lick off the remaining sauce it was SO AMAZINGLY GOOD. I had an awesome sandwich and my sister had the quiche and a bowl of soup. We both were very very pleased with our choices. We asked our server about the dinners there and if men would enjoy the meals and she said that it's a very romantic place in the evenings for dinner and that they do get quite a few men in there with their girlfriends or wives. I think I might have to take my husband there sometime real soon. I 100% recommend this place to anyone wanting a place that is not a chain, and doesn't batter and fry up everything they cook and serve it with a huge gross pile of French fries. You will not be disappointed. TIPS: Not a very large place, so if you have a group, I would definitely call ahead and make sure they can handle your group. No TV's in the dining area, which I LOVE, but for some, they prefer to have the game on when eating??? Not a really huge menu, but that is perfect for me, as I am one who prefers a smaller menu, with amazing food.

A great environment in an older home. Pub atmosphere. We came for Sunday and didn't realize that you could only order off the Brunch menu, which is a smaller menu option, but it was good, nonetheless. I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict. It was perfectly cooked but a heavier meal so I could only eat one of the sides. We also ordered the Turkey Brie which had a great combination of Brie/turkey/mustard. All complimentary flavors! Also ordered was the Hendel burger. It's a clean and classic burger with a great angus meat taste. We loved it and are glad that we tried it.

Mine was really good but her's was better. I hate losing the food game when dining out but cannot hold that against the restaurant. I started with a bloody mary. You get to choose from a laundry list of what goes into your drink so I went with cucumber vodka, pickle, bacon, zesty bloody mary mix and something else. They also will salt the rim so I went with that option too. It was a great drink! I had the shaved turkey and brie. The brie was nicely melted such that it almost infused the bread. The turkey remained moist even though it was a hot sandwich. Not sure how the pulled that off but I appreciated their efforts. The wife had a burger on a pretzel bun. It included swiss and cheddar cheese plus bacon and a few other things. I had a bite or two because she filled up on her bloody mary. My sandwich was very good - her's was great. Next time, I am definitely ordering the burger!

Ended up here for lunch yesterday because the Thai New Year Festival was rainy and nearly devoid of offerings by the time we arrived. What a great happenstance that this place was hanging out in my bookmarks! I have no idea what prompted me to bookmark it either but so glad I did... Service was really friendly and our server knew a lot about the history of the place that I will spare you in the review. You can ask her when you go. She was full of great suggestions; it's so nice when you get a server that really likes the food. I went with the burger and homemade chips. The burger was served on a pretzel bun (yum) and was perfectly cooked with a generous heap of cheddar, swiss, and bacon. The homemade chips were delicious - perfectly crispy with just the right amount of salt. The real star of lunch though was the you-pick Bloody Mary. You pick the vodka, base, spices, and garnishes. I am the ultimate Bloody Mary picker chef because mine was to die for! I chose effen cucumber vodka, zing zang mix, black pepper, celery, olives, and BACON. Yes, BACON!! Oh, and a salted rim of course. Seriously, I probably could have just called this lunch but my day would have ended about 2'o'clock.

Just had our baby shower there this weekend and it could not have been a better experience! Food, service, and ambiance were all great. Amelia was our server and did an excellent job with a party of over forty people. My wife and I have also been several times for brunch and have always had a great experience. You cannot go wrong at Hendel's

Wow! I've known about this place forever but his is my first visit, which was at lunch. I really enjoyed it. Service was excellent, super nice, always refilling drinks, plenty of communication without being overbearing. They were great. But about the food. Everything I had was excellent! Started with the rolls and butter. They were soft, warm, and a bit of Asiago on top. Delicious! I got the side salad with warm bacon honey vinegarette. The salad was fresh and plenty of variety with the greens, carrots, tomatoes. I enjoyed that and the dressing was so much better! Slightly sweet from the honey and the small bacon bits made it extremely tasty. I got the hendel burger with angus beef, bacon, cheddar, Swiss, honey mustard, on a pretzel bun. It was one of the best burgers I've had. Cooked perfectly. Not greasy at all. The cheese was melted and dripping, exactly how I like it, but not too much so it was not greasy at all. The bacon was crispy and perfect thickness. The honey mustard with the pretzel bun was a great combo. It was so good I wanted another one! I had the cole slaw side and it was very tasty. It was creamy but not thick. Not too vinegary but not too sweet. Just right. Neighbors had the fries served in a cute basket. They were small seasoned wedges and were served hot! I got the lemon cake for dessert and thanks to our server who recommended it. It was one of the better cake desserts that I've had in awhile. It was moist and flavorful. Not too sweet. I would go back just for this! I enjoyed every part of the meal and look forward to returning. They have a lot in back and even a small candy store in front. It gets crowded, even on a weekday lunch!

A regular staple for evening dining in chain-riddled North county! Warm quaint atmosphere & great service - perfect for a date or even adult family dinner. Cajun carbonara is very tasty, as is the grilled portobello - very generous cuts of meat & fish! All in all tasty fresh food & a great atmosphere in the heart of old town Florissant!

Excellent food and service. I had the steak and eggs and they gave me a filet bc they were out of strip. It was as good as a 20 dollar steak. Out waitress was super nice and attentive. Highly recommend!

Very good food. We each had the pan seared white bass and it was yummy! My husband was disappointed in the red velvet cheesecake. I doubt if they made it there, but I thought it was a neat atmosphere and we had a nice dinner on the patio. I felt the residential area because the guy next door was mowing his grass lol

Best restaurant steak I have ever had hands down. The cucumber mojito was unique and very good. We have been multiple times and the service is always top notch. The atmosphere is great regardless of where you are seated. If you are in the area and haven't been, go. You won't be disappointed and will be back.

This was an excellent restaurant. Beginning with the outside surroundings, it was very welcoming and friendly, setting in an old neighborhood, Old Florissant. The service was excellent, although our servant was working with our relatively large party of seven adults and one child. We were there for a brunch. The menu for brunch was rather extensive. I chose a breakfast item - a 3-meat omelette. The omelette was huge and big enough for two people. The side items were home potatoes and toast. Others in my party had hamburgers and other types of sandwiches. The quality of the food was excellent. The service was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and fulfilled our many requests during the meal. This is a place I would visit again and highly recommend it. It's off the beaten path but well worth taking the extra time to find.

I have been in the industry a long time and this is one of the best places I have ever been to. The menu is great (and super reasonably priced), the wine list is phenomenal, and the service was superb. Moreover, the atmosphere was beautiful. I would recommend this place to anyone. Specifically on Wednesdays, they have half off all bottles of wine including their reserve list! Insane deal! Happy dining!

This is one of our all time favorite places in Florissant. The food is always good and the the atmosphere is amazing. The restaurant is housed in what used to be an old grocery store back in the late 1800's.

Quaint little restaurant nestled in a neat Florissant neighborhood. The neighborhood is full of adorable cottage style homes that are very well manicured and full of character. I've had the pleasure eating here 6 or 7 times in the last few years. Brunch and lunch is just absolutely OUTSTANDING! Crab Cake Eggs Benedict is GREAT, burger and fries is served in a huge portion, French Toast is, well just French toast. Omelets are great and salmon burger is worth writing home about. Limited hours so be sure to double check beforehand.

This is the cutest place. Great atmosphere for lunch. My faves are the kale salad with poppyseed dressing and the crab cakes Benedict! Attentive service too - from the waiting list to food service.

Best food around at the best prices for the value. The portions are great and the filet and ribeye are amazing! The atmosphere is like no other restaurant in STL. This place is a must try and must return again and again. My favorite place for dinner in STL!!!

Went here a while ago for my boyfriends birthday, first time. Great service, equally delicious food and we were in luck, it was half off a bottle of wine (Wednesdays). The chefs catered to my vegan requests and made a delicious meal! Thank you!

I live in Florisaant and this is the only nice privately owned restaurant in the area. Hendel's has a great atmosphere and the food is good. If it's warm enough to sit outside, the patio area is so quaint and relaxing. I'll admit that sometimes the food isn't amazing, but it's always pretty good and you cannot beat the ambience of this place. It is perfect for a girls night out or for a romantic dinner. In my opinion, the best food on the menu is the Pomegranate Chicken, the Pasta Fleuressant and the stuffed mushrooms. All of their salads are wonderful as well.

This review is for a private party at Hendel's only: I wanted to throw my sister's baby shower in a cozy, classy venue, and I lucked out with Hendel's! They were helpful from the beginning to the end and always professional. We were told about 30 people could fit comfortably in the room. We had a list of 44 but narrowed it down a bit and then figured a few would RSVP no. Because of the awful winter weather in February and some sickness, we had almost 30 show up, which was perfect. We all fit comfortably and were able to move the tables around to accommodate where everyone wanted to sit. We ordered several dozen appetizers and a veggie plate from Hendel's for the party. I was disappointed in the veggie plate because of its size and price. It was picked over after a few people went through the line, and it was quite expensive. The toasted ravioli, however, were delicious and also eaten up quite fast. Everyone loved them. We were able to bring our own cake, and they cut and served it for us. Drinks were also provided for the guests. The best part was the room itself. The fireplace was a cozy touch, and the wooden floors and bar were beautiful. Everyone enjoyed the venue and commented about the atmosphere. I loved the historical aspect of it. It's nestled right in suburban Florissant, which is a great bonus, as all of my family originated from Florissant. I recommend Hendel's as a spot for a small party (especially wedding or baby shower). Great time!

My co-worker took me here for dinner last week and I was blown away! I'm so glad i came here since it's not part of my neck of the woods and I probably would not have found this place if it wasn't for him. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays and definitely put me in the Christmas spirit! I was determined to get my Christmas shopping done right after dinner! I was fortunate enough to come on a night (last Tuesday) where they had wine tasting. My co-worker and I ordered first and headed over to the bar to sample wine. I ended up buying a couple of bottles for presents. The food here is delicious! I had the salmon salad. The salmon was perfectly cooked. It was flakey, had a sweetness to it and worked well the light dressing. I'm not usually a big fan of salad for dinner (only for lunch!) but there was enough to call it dinner! I even had some left over! I am excited to come back for brunch soon!

Let's start off with the positives, great piano bar great selection of wines and lot's of outside seating. Very friendly staff and bartenders are very attentive to the guests at their rail. Moving on...Parking in the area is a challenge small streets don't help either. I understand it is something out of there control but when developing a restaurant your seating calculator is based on parking spots available. This will let you use areas more productively and efficiently. Also it is very confusing where the front door is or where guests are to come in. The signs in the back just make things more confusing. We would have enjoyed sitting outside the weather was not too bad but with properly placed fire pits you could take advantage of all your patio seating. On to the menu, limited but great because of the size of the establishment and very well priced. The selections were good and diverse which is key to satisfying a variety of palettes but...if you offer small a menu everything that comes out should be perfectly cooked and should taste as good as it looks. I had the pork chop unfortunately it was cooked to a med rare. I do like my pork medium but rare is wrong. My wife had the salmon which looked slightly overcooked but she was fine with it. My friend had the bone in rib eye which was cooked well but as far as taste you can tell it was choice grade and lacked a beefy flavor many look for when ordering that cut. His wife had the tilapia and she did not eat it at all! The breading was soggy and tasteless and was non-visually appealing. Too many bland colors on the menu plate presentation is everything! If it looks good it taste good! Also we noticed the menu doesn't offer a description of your sides which this technique is usually used in ala carte menus. I am sure your mashed potatoes are a staple to your menu, but it's important for your chef to check potatoes often through the night because they will brown and become gummy if not maintained right as mine were no good. All of us who received the side of vegi's we received cold and very wilted and over cooked. The last item is we never saw a managers presence we had a food issue and no one came to our table to follow up with us. There was also a table that had children running and screaming which causes safety issues for your staff and the children. If the food runner's were taking food and one of the kids tripped or ran into the runner and hot food were to fall on them or one of the guests it would have been serious.

So, I've had the opportunity to dine at this place twice....and if not for my busy schedule it would've been more than that. I found this spot through a recommendation from someone....and I'm not sure I would've found it many other different ways. It's nestled amongst homes, and could be considered as such if not paying closer attention. Both times I was there, I enjoyed the lunch menu.....and WOW, what a great lunch it was...from the ambiance, outdoor patio, and the well prepared food. It's a treat. I had the crab cakes, the stuffed mushrooms, the Turkey Brie sandwich, their quiche, Harvest salad and their Santa Fe Tenderloin. Everything was excellent. I recommend...especially if you're out to eat with your love interest ;-)

This is my absolute favorite place to go out for a great meal! Service is always excellent. I've never had fish cooked so perfectly. If you're wanting to get a bottle of wine with your dinner, and are not sure what to get, let your server know. The bartender came over to our table and helped us pick what works with our tastes and meals. They even brought out the bottle and let us taste it before we had to commit. Their outdoor patio is awesome during the spring, summer, and fall. In winter sitting out on the heated covered porch with all of the Christmas lights at the church and down the street is really beautiful. They have tastings frequently at the bar and have come to my table to offer tastings of various drinks while I was just there for dinner. Overall, great service and food, and a wonderful atmosphere!

Hendel's in an awesome escape. It's nestled in an historic neighborhood in Old Town Florissant, not far in distance from the ghetto of Florissant but worlds away in atmosphere. The restaurant is a beautiful historic two storied brick building with a patio off the side. It's different than I remember, but I've been coming here since kindergarten- Seriously. This place use to be Hendel's Marketplace, a little general store for the neighborhood. When I was an itsy little thing I would come in and buy individual Swedish Fish for a nickel a piece. Now it's an upscale dining experience in Florissant- Who would have guessed? Not me. The service is decent but not great, but the food is remarkable. The steaks are wonderful, and a far cry from what you'll get at the Longhorn down the street. I recommend coming here in the spring or summer when you can hang out on the patio and really soak in the weather. It doesn't feel like you're anywhere near home. I'm rating this as a five because this is as good as it gets in Florissant. If you're looking for a nice night out without a long car ride, make reservations on a weekend and enjoy.

The area that I grew up at had a town after town with small historical inns, B&Bs, and restaurants that served good comforting American food in a quaint rustic setting. Some of the special ones in my memory seemed to reflect the love that the people running the place had for their small establishment. Hendel's is that special kind of place. When a coworker convinced me to eat there for lunch, I thought, "Where the hell are you taking me?!" as he turned off Lindbergh onto some seemingly random local roads. I found myself in an area untouched by the familiar quazi-ghetto strip malls that I felt personified Florissant. Eating outside is a huge recommendation on the patio with the well tended garden and the overall cozy feel of the place. The service is friendly and the food is very good, but nothing spectacular. Regardless, if you're in the area, you should check this place out. You'll definitely be going back again.

This is a wonderful place. You will feel relaxed and far far away from St. louis and all the traffic (without leaving St. Louis). Guys this is fantastic date night location. Park a block or two away and walk to the cafe it will add to the date. The food had perfect portions for all ages.

Food and service were great! This place has a lot of history which I thought was cool. We had a large group dinner and everything went smoothly. They have a pianist there on the weekends at the bar and he was great! Will definetly be returning!

Hendel's is a very nice and quaint restaurant. We had Saturday night reservations, but the place was so crowded that we must have waited at least 45 minutes to be seated. But once seated, the food was outstanding and the service was even better.

Hendels is a great place to eat if you are looking for upper class without the high price. The atmosphere is relaxed, the lights are dimmed to set a great mood and the staff is very friendly. Great place to relax and have some great food and drinks. They also have a piano bar!

Lovely dining room in a historic neighborhood. The wine bar addition was a great improvement. Lovely garden dining is available in the summer. The food is always good, but not quite as nice as the atmosphere. Some lighter/healthier additions to the choices would be helpful.

It's not on the menu, but order the steak and request that it is prepared "seafood stuffed.". It is simply the best steak in St. Louis. The service here is excellent.

BEST PLACE EVER! First choice for our special celebrations. Great steaks, famous crab cakes and wonderful service!. Fun place to eat lunch outside when it's nice out. Also, a great, relaxing place to sip a class of wine and catch up with friends. Brunch on Sunday is a must try!

Silly me - I didn't even know that Hendel's served dinner! For some odd reason I thought it was only a breakfast/brunch/lunch place. So when a good friend mentioned trying a specific dish at Hendel's for dinner (and had never been there before!), I jumped at the chance to try their evening menu. Hendel's is super cute/cozy as is, but seeing it decorated for the holidays made me love it even more. It does have a Grandma feel to it, but it's more of a hip, cool Grandma. My friend and I sat in the back half of the restaurant, which I guess is the piano bar area. Did you know that on Thursdays-Saturdays this place turns into a happenin' piano bar? Another factoid I learned the other night... Anyhoo, we sat at the bar area and our service was exceptional. I tried the "award winning" crab cakes and my companion had the salmon. If you have the opportunity to eat a dinner salad here, definitely go with the house poppy seed dressing. Mmmm! The crab cakes alone were good, but the onion and salsa garnish wasn't my favorite. And my baked potato was undercooked. A fairly underwhleming meal, especially at a fairly hefty price tag ($17 and $18 respectively). But you do get a lot of food for what you pay. Never fear here, 'cause the wine list for such a small place is pretty extensive. Way beyond just a handful of reds and whites. And they even boast a Missouri wine section, so if you want to keep it truly local, that's not a problem. For dessert, we sampled the holiday cocktail menu. I tried the Eggnog Cinnamontini and my friend had the Chocolate Mintini. Both were delish and a great way to end our night. This is definitely a St. Louis original that must be tried at least once, whether it be brunch, dinner or drinks. Tres cute and a memorable experience.

I LOVE the atmosphere here. The patio is beautiful as is the inside. White table cloths, oak bar, brick patio and fresh flowers. This is a romantic venue and I understand people have fabulous rehearsal dinners and even small receptions here. We had the crab-stuffed mushroom appetizer, pasta entree with a salad, and chocolate lava dessert. Everything was great. I can't wait to go back. Tip: order the house dressing. It's a lemon poppy seed that's light but creamy at the same time. Best dressing ever.

Love this place. Mt mom took me here for lunch and the atmosphere is so nice, you feel like you eating a more upscale place. We had the spinach artichoke dip as an app, so good it came with home made pita chips, those store bought kind. I also had the salmon BLT all i can say is amazing!!!! Its an great place to take a date and the prices are good. cant wait to go back.
