We took our out of town friends to Charlie Gitto's last night. It is one of our favorite restaurants. As usual the food was wonderful and the service was top notch. I can't remember our servers name but she was attentive and welcoming. The one complaint I have is the temperature in the restaurant. It was sweltering. I was sweating the whole time. I know it wasn't just me because I saw a woman at the table next to us fanning herself. I don't mind paying good money for a quality dining experience but I don't want to leave with a wet shirt ! Please get the AC fixed so we can come back

The best thing I can say about this place is the wait staff is very attentive, friendly, and professional. I appreciate food that is made with a chef's own signature flair, but I waned more flavours. My husband and I ordered both the garlic, cheesy bread and the toasted ravioli. The bread was extremely greasy and sadly the cheese over took the bread. If you are going to serve fresh bread, allow the customer to enjoy it instead of completely cover it up. The ravioli was good and fresh however with other reviews for this restaurant, I was expecting to be wow'd. I order the French Onion soup. I claim myself to be a short of conesouir of it. If I could stand outside with a warning sign not to order it, I gladly would. I had to keep looking to reassure myself it was actually onion soup. I am not sure what kind of cheese they used....t was the wrong one! I had the veal parmesan. Again, no mode of enlightenment from me in anyway. I actually hesitated when the waitress asked if I wanted a box to bring the rest home. There is no dog at home to finish it and I know I won't be! Sad at the meal. I love italian food but I search for flavor and richness. Not happening here folks.

First time in today for a business lunch. Beautiful day to sit on the patio. Started with toasted ravioli. Think deep fried cheese ravioli. Delivered pipping hot with a marinara dipping sauce. Probably not the healthiest, but sure tasted good. Followed with the Eggplant Napoleon. This was my favorite dish. Pesto, spinach and cheese wrapped in eggplant sitting in two different sauces. Finished my meal with the wild mushroom pizza. Pesto based with roasted mushrooms and cheese on a thin crust. Three of my favorite foods all in one bite! Very good. Service was attentive.

Our family ate here tonight for the first time while we are on vacation in the St Louis area. We had toasted ravioli as an appetizer which was very good. I had the shrimp scampi special with tomato pasta in a garlic cream sauce. My daughter had spaghetti and meatballs, a half order. My wife had the lobster bisque and a salad. It was all excellent. The service was also top-notch. I give this restaurant one of my highest recommendations.

I'm giving this place three stars...here's why... PROS Great toasted ravioli...maybe the best in the STL Good variety on the menu Great for lunch CONS Totally uppity crowd...a West County staple Way way overpriced for dinner / has nothing on the white linen location on the Hill but charging those prices

Our Family met there for the 1st time for my son's birthday and we had extraordinary service. The server Pierre was so efficient I was amazed. The Restaurant was very busy , but they kept their cool and delivered outstanding service with a Smile ........ You gotta love it :-) The Manager came by our table and thanked us for being there , her name was Suzanne and I thought that was special. Excellent job in all phases of their job . A+++

I've never been treated so harshly & rudely before in my life in any restaurant until I went here. Ill never go back, ever. Too long of a story to share but it was a horrible degrading experience. So bad that I left crying which I have never done.

My family and I enjoyed our meals very much. I ordered the homemade lasagna and it was excellent. My father-in-law enjoyed his cannelloni. My wife enjoyed her rigatoni with sausage and my mother-in-law enjoyed her penne' primavera. The salads were also very good. The waitress was very attentive to our needs, and even when my father-in-law dropped his fork replaced it instantly. I would definitely recommend this place to others!!

Met a prospective client here for lunch. Excellent service - attentive, but not intrusive. The food was great. The room had nice decor and was quiet enough to easily carry a conversation. It isn't cheap, but it's worth every penny.

We chose Charlie Gitto's based on a recommendation from my sister. The restaurant was busy for a Monday night, so we were happy to have a reservation. Our server, Joel, was phenomenal. They have a team service thing going on- we wanted for nothing and someone was always at our table filling water, wine, taking plates, crumbing, etc. The service was invisible and unobtrusive and absolutely perfect. The food was really good, although a couple things were a bit too salty. Our favorites were the homemade lobster ravioli and the minnestrone soup. The restaurant had a clean, warm feel- perfect for a date night, family or business dinner. Pricing was reasonable for the level of food and service. We spent $170 for 3 people including tip. Highly recommend!

My family would kill me for giving this place 3 stars instead of 5 because they live in Chesterfield and this is their favorite Italian place. But my meal just didn't cut it. My husband had an absolutely delicious veal parmesan, and I had an "interesting" chicken and pasta dish... The bruschetta and cheese appetizers were so-so to good, not excellent. The desserts were very good, and almost made up for my not-so-great dinner. The service was okay... Except, the bus boy spilled water on me and my food while refilling my cousin's glass, and didn't apologize or offer to bring means an extra napkin...so, I was kinda turned off by that. Overall, the family had a great meal together. Everyone else liked their dinner's, so I can't complain much... I just wasn't feeling what I ordered.

My family will go back! My wife, our two teenagers, and I ate here for our first time tonight. Everyone was happy with our main dishes. I had the bucatini amatriciana, and was very pleased. Bucatini looks like thick spaghetti, but it is actually tubular (perhaps in both the hollow sense and the 80's sense). The sauce had a nice spice with chunks of tomato, and the dish was very nicely presented and proportioned. I got to taste my daughter's lobster ravioli--a special tonight--which both of us loved. My son really liked his chicken saltimbocca, and my wife's Tortellini alla Panna was a big hit. Plates and bowls were served hot, so the food stayed warm for the whole meal, which doesn't happen everywhere. The salads were OK, but both the mixed greens and Caesar had too much dressing to suit our family. Service was fine--very polite, timely, and got our orders right. A little slow on the requests for drink refills, picking up my payment, etc., but that will vary from person to person and night to night. It was acceptable, just not impeccable. So don't let that stop you. There are a lot of Italian choices in the St. Louis area, and this one is worth trying.

A complete rip off... I ordered the lobster ravioli special and the dish of 6 ravioli had only a few small shrimp. I could not find any lobster bits at all. To add insult to injury, when the general manager came over and I told her, she replied "Well it is a 'seafood ravioli.'" I reminded her that I ordered what was sold to me as LOBSTER ravioli and the general manager responded with a lot of attitude: "Well that would be too expensive." I would have been happy to pay for lobster! The general manager had no business being in customer service. Her whole attitude was disrespectful and rude - not the least bit interested in serving the customers or building clientele. The GM did end up taking the dish off our bill but because of her attitude (and the fact that they clearly were ripping off customers that night claiming lobster and serving bits of shrimp) - we will NEVER return.

Dinner there last night and the food was terrific as was the service. The restaurant was quite full but the service was spot on. The food came out quickly and was hot and fresh. The prices seemed reasonable for the fresh made pasta and the salad. The gelato at the end of the meal was the perfect touch. The restaurant is lovely even if it is loud. You could hear the roar of the other diners the minute we walked in the door. There does not seem to be much of anything to absorb sound so it just bounces around the room. I don't think any of the tables in the section where we were seated were particularly loud, I just think that the over all collection of everyone talking and with nothing to absorb sound made it quite loud and difficult to have a quiet dinner table conversation. We will certainly go back since the food was so good!

Had dinner here a few weeks ago for my dad's birthday. I had never been to the location on The Hill so I was pretty excited to see one open up in Chesterfield. We did make reservations so our table was ready as soon as we walked in. I have to say I wasn't too impressed with the menu. I don't consider myself a very picky eater but didn't exactly find what I wanted. I don't remember what I ended up choosing but it was decent. The appetizers we had were good. Also thought that for the amount of food that is served the dishes were a little over priced. I really liked our waitress she was very assertive and had a good sense of humor which is key when working in the restaurant industry. Overall we had a pretty good experience. I would consider making a second trip back.

The most recent location is much more convenient to West Countians and provides another upscale option for Italian food lovers. The decor and ambiance of this former Uno's location is fabulous and will pass the test of most discerning diners. Table service is always a hallmark of any Gitto's location and this is no exception. Food is terrific for the most part. Veal Anthony is suspect and the traditionally good Toasted Ravioli is routinely overcooked, but dishes such as the Linguine with Clams and Seafood Pasta Suzanne are not to be missed. Wine list is sufficient and deserts complete the dining experience. Reservations are a must but most early arrivals are accommodated.

Wow. What a disappointment tonight. Hadn't been to Gitto's for several months, but went tonight with good friends and high expectations. Three of us ordered chicken/veal nuncio and were all most disappointed. What was once a fabulous dish, swimming in a wonderful sauce.....was now reduced to fried meat, partially melted slices of cheese and tasteless crab....could have been a TV dinner in a previous life. We won't be back.

My wife and I had dinner at Charlie Gittos Chesterfield Saturday night. She'd been there before, but this was my first time. The entrees were very good, but the rest of the experience left me as "meh", which is why 3 stars vs. 4. Our waiter Kevin was pretty attentive and offered us 4 off the menu specials, one of which was a pan-seared halibut, with asparagus and risotto sides, which my wife had. I opted for the seafood pasta Suzette, which on the waiter's suggestion I changed to their St. Joes seafood pasta, with freshly made pasta and some mussels in the dish, along with the usual selection of other seafoods. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. The risotto as a side on my wife's entree was out-of-this world good, and my seafood pasta was terrific, a great amount of seafood in the dish was a very yummy sauce, all very, very good. What left us with "meh" were a couple of things. The wine selection is enormous, almost too large for a restaurant of this type. Lot of choices of Italian wines (duh) from all over, but the bottles were pretty expensive, most in the $60-$100 range. So my wife opted for a glass of Kendall Jackson chardonnay, in which she got a very disappointing thimble full in her glass, come to find out when presented with the bill cost $10.50, for the glass! You can buy a bottle of this stuff for that price. I think had the pour been more generous we might have felt differently, but it struck us both as an over-the-top approach to profiteering from the bar service. I chose a vodka martini (very good and smooth) but was charged an additional $1 per olive for blue cheese stuffed ones. OK, I "opted-in" for these olives, but other places I've been offer these types of olives as a no charge option. Again, struck me as very aggressive profiteering from the bar bill. We thought the bread they placed on the table was stale, or at least a day old, with little flavor that one associates with better Italian restaurants, especially Charlie Gittos with it's reputation from "the Hill" area of St. Louis. Finally, the last "meh" aspect to our dinner was a table nearby of a family with several children and iPads on the table playing cartoons to keep the kids occupied. What, was Applebee's closed that night? I realize this might be out of the control of the restaurant, but we chose Charlie Gittos to have a dinner away from kids and videos, not to be seated to a table next to this. Again, the food was terrific, and will likely try it again on that basis alone. Will likely opt for a later dinner time, past the time families with kids typically go out.

Went on a Thursday night. Given the price point of the restaurant, it was surprising to see silverware wrapped up in napkins at the tables, and cheap plastic-laminated menus; a scene acceptable at an inexpensive chain restaurant, but not here. Service was at times over-attentive by secondary staff and under-attentive by the lead waiter. The menu was somewhat pretentious and poorly executed considering the price point. A calamari and shrimp appetizer was heavy and greasy; nobody at the table wanted to finish it. An off-the-menu appetizer of Sicilian eggplant was ok, but the toast points served with it were not toasted properly. Caesar side salad was very over-dressed in what might have been a bottled dressing, and some of the romaine lettuce was wilted and brown. My off-the-menu entree was a fresh (house made?) spinach linguine tossed with mixed seafood. The pasta tasted as if it were made with dehydrated or poorly-frozen spinach, and was tough and overly thick. I make it at home and know that it can be much better when made with fresh-cooked spinach, and a more gentle hand kneading and rolling the dough. The cream sauce was acceptable but uninspired, and one of the mussels tasted bad. I did not finish the dish, and decided it was not worth taking home the leftovers. Their wine list is fairly large, but the waiter knew little about it. Typical to St. Louis area restaurants, wine bottle prices were excessive, appearing to approach 3x-retail (3x-wholesale is a more fair price, at least for lower priced wines). Overall, the food was just ok, and a poor value. Ambiance was also sub-par given the price-point. I was glad to have experienced this establishment on an expense account, and would certainly not return by choice. I'm pleased that the St. Louis area is gaining a number of much better restaurants at a similar price-point, where the chefs and staff seem to care much more about the food and the whole experience. I suggest giving these entrepreneurs your business rather than places like Charlie Gitto's who appear to be resting on family laurels that are getting thread-bare.

I would say CG's from the HIll is just okay. The service was good, but I didn't think the food was worth the price. Since we were trying it for the first time, we stuck with very basic choices since that's typically a good barameter of a food quality. We both started with side salads, which were a bit soggy with the house dressing - edible but not top notch salads you come to expect from St. Louis italian eateries. We then got the spaghetti w/ meatballs, which was pretty good - just not great. The noodles seemed homemade, which took the dish up a notch and the meatballs were flavorful. That dish was much better than the CG special pizza, which really didn't have much flavor at all - quite bland and uninspired. It didn't have that "brick oven" taste you would expect in a high quality italian restaurant. Maybe some other dishes are better. Even though close to home, we probably won't be returning to CGs because there are much better choices, even nearby (Paul Mannos is absolutely FANTASTIC and in the same price range). Sorry Charile. . .

This is a nicely decorated restaurant. It's warm and cozy inside with lots of wood. They have great Calamari and meatballs and lots of good pasta dishes on the menu. The service is good and it's a nice place to take your family. We enjoyed eating there and will return.

The only reason this gets 2 stars are the soup and salad. Otherwise, I will.guve it 0 star. It is worse than.Olive Garden. The original restaurant we wanted to go to was packed and didn't take reservations. So we had to settle for this place, hoping it was as good as the Yelp 3.5 stars. Unfortunately, it was awful. We should have known when the restaurant was half empty when everywhere else was crowded. The lasagna was so sweet that it got more difficult to eat as you take the next bite. The lasagna pasta was also undercooked. I never sent anything back unless it is truly inedible, and I had to do so with the lasagna. On another entree, the meatball was disgusting, like it had been frozen for a year. It didn't help we were sitting next to a table of big group that decided to laugh loudly every 2 seconds as if Jerry Seinfeld was sitting amongst them. It was one of my worst meals.

Thinking about my experience at the Chesterfield location makes me sad and angry all at the same time. My bf and I reserved a table at this location since we were staying out in Chesterfield for Valentine's Day Weekend. When making the reservation I was hesitant because I know that my experiences on the Hill have always been so pleasant, but I thought we could give it a try even though some of the reviews for this location made me nervous. We arrived around 6 pm on Valentine's Day and the place was packed (as predicted). I completely understand that going out to eat on Valentine's Day can be crazy, but I had no idea it would be that bad. Our reservation was at 6 pm and when we arrived we were told that there was still a little bit of a wait...no biggie. That being said, when I make reservations at the Hill location I never have to wait. Anyway, we waited for about 10 minutes and were seated at a table right near the bathroom and in front of the service station. I really wanted to say something, but didn't have the heart...my bf was sitting basically in the aisle and so patrons and servers had to maneuver around him if they wanted to get through. What a ridiculous location for a table! The table behind me was so close to my chair that the person in the chair behind me kept hitting my chair and it was making me feel very uncomfortable. All within 3 minutes of sitting down we were both angry and upset about the location, but neither of us wanted to say anything since it was such a busy night. I regret that decision. Our server came over to bring us water and let us look over the drink menu. Our server was friendly and even though it was busy she did a good job taking care of us. The awkward thing was whenever she would be at the table next to us she was so close that we could hear everything going on at the table; not much privacy or intimacy at this location. When she came back we ordered salads (I ordered the spinach salad and the bf ordered a caesar) and our entrees. I knew the food was going to be good and that is all that really mattered. Our salads were brought out and drinks were delivered right around the same time. Again, the place was busy so I was okay with waiting a little longer for food/drinks. During the time we were waiting I was still feeling movement from the table behind me and it was getting irritating-I tried to move my chair, but it was caught and so I just had to deal with it. The other awkward thing was that the service station was so close that I could touch it-and I felt like I was being watched by the servers standing back there the entire time! My poor bf was knocked into a few times as people were trying to go around him to get to and/or from the bathroom/service station. By the time our food came our we were just ready to get out of there. The whole experience was just not good and we really felt awkward. I ate a few bites and then asked for a box and so did my bf-we just wanted to get out of there. As our leftovers were being boxed up I really thought the manager would come over to our table (as I saw him visit a few other tables around us), but he never did. I kind of wanted to let him know about our experience. I had a whole conversation planned and it wasn't going to be bad...just informative. Anyway, our leftovers came out thanks to our server who boxed them up. We also asked for some gelato to go (cookies and cream) so that we could enjoy it back at the hotel. She brought us the gelato and we were able to bag all of our goodies up, we paid the bill and left. Overall, I was not very impressed with the atmosphere or the seating arrangements. I agree with Kristin S.; the tables are way too close together. It was hard to have a romantic dinner with another table being so close. Also, the music at this location was really loud so diners were trying to talk over the music and the noise in the place was just too much for me to handle. I am sorry for the 2 star review. I will just visit the Hill location from now on since I know my experiences there have been awesome each and every time I have gone. The food was delicious and the service was okay...but the atmosphere and the seating really brought down the rating for me.

What a bunch of arrogant, greedy and condescending group of people. More worried about filling tables than a pleasant dining experience. I must say the food is decent, but no better than most Italian restaurants. Poor soul's of West county don't have many choices for pasta besides chains, so they have to tolerate simplicity and the rudeness of a miniature host. My filet was cooked perfect and was delicious but sides were cold, dried and limp. Son liked his red snapper but 1/4 of it was the brown fat. But overall he enjoyed. My wife ordered a chicken pasta which came to table cold. For an appetizer we had fried calamari that was average. Took home carrot cake and a chocolate cake, really delicious. Don't think they make in house. Do to the front staff and disregard for people's time and plans, would have gave 3 stars, but eating out should be an experience. DON'T expect to have a fine dining experience with Charlie Gitto's. FInd a nice Italian restaurant that prides themself in an experience and not filling tables. Greg

Charlie Gitto's Chesterfield Location is having a full blown identity crisis. It does not know if it wants to be a pizza & pasta stop or fine dining steak and entrees. The service, interior, and price of a glass of house wine all make you think they are pushing upscale, but most people are in jeans ordering salad and pizzas. Absolutely not romantic in any way. Tables are on top of each other, views of the front door and restroom, waiters station facing tables were they stand and stare at diners, highchairs blocking walkways, lights from a display case in the lobby distracting, very loud music which diners are talking over, topped off by aloof management. Plastic menus, no table clothes, and wrapped silverware all equal mid range to low end restaurants. Very disappointed for a special night out. I was served spoiled red wine which I politely asked to be dumped and given a glass of the house red instead. After ten minutes the wine came back, waiter saying I was right and they opened a new bottle. I do not believe that for a second- I can almost guarantee they aerated the original glass and sent it back to me. Pour size is very small. I did not finish the wine. I would be willing to return and give it one more try in jeans and do as the people in the "know" seem to do- split a salad and pizza or pasta- avoiding the wine altogether. To end on a positive note, I adore the striped curtains inside.

My first and last visit to this establishment. Decided to entertain clients over lunch and since we were staying in the Chesterfield area decided to dine at Charlie Gitto's. I ordered the sausage rigatoni. When the plate arrived looking over the presentation it looked sloppy. The noodles were mushy actually falling apart prior to touching them with a fork. When the waiter came by to ask if everything was okay, I asked nicely if he could send my dish back to the kitchen and have the kitchen personnel prepare my rigatoni pasta al dente. Now, this waiter was a couple cans short of a sixpack because he looked at me like I was speaking mandarin and stood there and didn't know what to do. He insisted he would have to call on his manager. A young lady approaches the table with a smirk look and attitude to go with it. She says she would have the chef prepare another dish. That other dish took no longer than two minutes to arrive the table. There's no way in hell you can boil noodles that quickly and prep that dish in two minutes. Basically, they took my original noodles throw them back in the pan and reheated them. The manager nor the waiter ever came back to inquire about the texture or taste of the dish. It's pretty pathetic to charge $14.00 when you have kitchen personnel that doesn't even know how to prepare a firm noodle.

Ate here once before and had a 5-star experience, so Husband booked them for a business lunch today. Our businesses are complementary so sometimes have business to discuss over lunch. Despite the 5-star food, today's lunch was an overall 3-star experience due to the management and server. Here's what made it a less-than-stellar experience: We arrived and were seated in a room with another group who were obviously also having a business lunch. A few minutes later a couple with a toddler were seated two tables over from us; the toddler was sufficiently loud that it disrupted our meals, despite his parent's best efforts to keep him happy and quiet. It was a poor decision to sit them in a room with the business people and made all parties uncomfortable - our lunches were disrupted, and they felt rushed through theirs so as not to disrupt us. This should never have happened. Service was also too intrusive for a business lunch. The server didn't seem to understand the concept of waiting for a break in the conversation to take care of the specials and ordering. Kind of the business version of the waiter asking you how your food is right after you take a big bite. We were offered bread and drink refills - this is a peeve of mine. Unless it is going to cost me money, just bring it if you can see that we need it! They went a little crazy with the water refills too - reminded me of that I Love Lucy episode where every time Lucy takes a drink they refill her water glass. So she starts taking drinks just to see how long it will take them to get there. To top it all off, after I signed the check I put it in front of me and continued the conversation. The server reaches around me in the middle of the conversation to retrieve the check! This is a huge pet peeve of mine. He was pretty young so I suspect this is a training issue (read management.) Either way, even though the food was delicious I will probably try somewhere else the next time I need to have a business lunch in the area.

Normally, this is well into the 4 star review category for me, and sometimes flirts with 5 star. The last visit however, was just a three. I met my old boss here for lunch to catch up, and we got there right when they opened. Everyone seemed to be running in slow motion. No one was particularly friendly either, almost like serving robots that need oiled like the Tin Man. Once I got my meal, typical Cannelloni, I was almost immediately disappointed. The sauce is normally very creamy, but this time, it was more just a marinara sauce, rather than the mix. It really took away from the experience. I also had to ask for bread 3 times before some was finally provided to me. All in all, it could have been a whole lot worse, but I expect more from this place for sure. They need to tighten up a bit for the next time I give them a try!

Toasted ravioli is a must! Spaghetti and meatballs is made with a more sweet type sauce. Half my family loved it and a few prefer more garlic tomato sauce. Staff was really friendly and great with our kids. I'd skip the chicken Marsala. Good but nothing special...I've had it at other places served on a bed of angel hair pasta which is nice. The side of veggies was good. Too full to try the desserts

Ambience 5/5 Service 5/5 Food 4/5 We had the toasted ravioli appetizer which was delicious. The filling has a lot of herbs with the meat and a pasta shell that tasted baked instead of fried which I liked. For the entree, I ordered the homemade cannelloni which had the same filling as the ravioli. It was quite good and filling with 3 large noodles. My husband had the veal Milanese which came with a very creamy pasta side. The entrees were very filling and good quality. The only issue I had was the tiramisu for dessert. There was a lot of creamy whipped filling, but the lady finger layers were very thin. Perhaps that's the correct way for it to be made, but I prefer more of the soaked lady finger layers. Overall it was very good, and the quality seemed consistent with the pricing. I think I will try another Italian restaurant if I crave Italian, though, before coming back due to the price.

Never had a bad meal here. Today at lunch I had the roast beef, fries, and chopped salad. Perfect. The bread was very fresh and the food tasty. Our server, Pierre, was a delight. He was attentive. I recommend this place to anyone wanting a taste of the hill without actually traveling there.

A colleague and I went here on the recommendation of a client, and a good friend who grew up in the area. We were there on a Wednesday night and when we arrived the place was packed. There was a new Rolls Royce in the parking lot and that seemed like a good sign. We were seated immediately, in a pretty poor location near the bathroom. I'm not sure if were weren't dressed nice enough (jeans and dress shirts after being suited up all day) or if there weren't any good seats left. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, but is a bit old school. The menu is pretty extensive and looks good on first glace. We split calamari (OK, but I've had much better) and each ordered a special from the waiters recommendation. Mine was super salty, but otherwise bland, with no distinctive flavor. My colleague basically said his was 'meh' and left it at that. Since our clients pay the bills, we can't go crazy, and that is probably part of the problem. The place is trying hard to be upscale but the prices just aren't in line with the quality of the food. Forget ordering wine as the by-the-glass prices are just not realistic for the bottles they had on offer. Overall, for a place that came so highly recommended, this was a huge disappointment. The waiter was a slob who seemed to think he was better than us, and was pretty inattentive throughout the meal. I don't have plans to return.

I had heard that Charlie Gitto's had pretty good food, but was pricier than typical Italian neighborhood restaurants. I guess that sums up my dinner, too - except that the (mild) price difference really was made up through the higher quality of the experience. Service was excellent. Our waiter did a great job describing the off menu specials for the appetizer and entrees, along with giving his personal opinion on what he liked about them and what he thought of other menu items. For dessert, he just straight up said to get the pecan pie with salted caramel ice cream topping. Since we had broached the subject of dessert, we weren't being given a hard sell, and he was right in his choice! Throughout the meal he was attentive, without being intrusive. If you don't want alcohol or sweet soda, they have Voss sparkling water - which I prefer to San Pellegrino. The appetizer special was a toasted Italian bread with a pan of melted cheeses and a savory tomato chutney. I was surprised by the volume of (tasty) cheese, and the flavor level of the chutney. The chutney had just a hint of spice, so that I could focus on enjoying the flavor. Good deal. Since there were just two of us, and we were getting both an appetizer and a dessert, we wanted to just split a salad. [The menu didn't have any small dinner salads.] Our waiter said they don't split items, but was happy to bring out two extra plates for us to use. I guess I understand, but it seems a bit nit-picky of the management. Anyway, we ordered the chop salad, and asked if about the size of the small vs. regular. Our waiter thought the small might be a little too small to split, but we went with it anyway. It would have been too small if we hadn't also gotten the appetizer and entree and dessert, but actually was nice to have that size. For the salad itself, it was well presented, with fresh, finely chopped items. There was a slight tartness to the dressing, and all was crisp. My wife's chicken lemonata was tender, and she described the sauce as tart yet smooth. A thumbs up from her. My penne borghese came in a pink cognac sauce with prosciutto. Sauce was flavorful, and I always love prosciutto. However, I did think the prosciutto could have been cut a little thinner, rather than the fairly chunky slices. Dessert was a small pecan pie topped with salted caramel ice cream. All I can say is mmmm-mmmm good. I believe the pecan pies are their dessert chef's specialty. Whether or not, they were freshly made and delicious. As I said at the start, the prices are higher than a typical neighborhood Italian restaurant. But you do get a higher level of quality and atmosphere.

Rainbow Trout absolutely fabulous! Also enjoyed the salad, dressing was delicious. Server was polite, knowledgeable, and on the ball!

One of our favorites places. I've never had anything that isn't delicious and always get the pistachio gelato for dessert.

I went to eat with a coworker because were staying in St. Louis a few days for business. A friend of mine that grew up in St. Louis recommended this place, so we tried it out. Here's what I found out - Beer selection was great. They have some high-end microbrewery beers along with anything standard that you want. I tried Civil Life English pale ale and it was awesome. The server was extremely knowledgeable on both alcohol and food selections. Order the toasted ravioli. It is awesome. Other than that, I had the veal Parmesan. I think the prices are a little high for the quality of food. Don't get me wrong, it was great veal Parmesan. Veal Parmesan is one my favorite dishes. But I'm not sure it was $35 veal Parmesan. It was bone-in which is pretty unique for veal Parmesan, so I was kind of impressed. My coworker had the fillet she said it was fine. I can't figure it out but I'm thinking that they are really trying to be upscale. The first thing the hostess asked me was if I had a reservation. She acted like I was supposed to. We were dressed in jeans and polos but who knows. I'd recommend slacks and a button up so they don't seat you in the bathroom. Finally, I just need to talk about the service really quickly. I'm telling you what, my water glass never fell below halfway. Those dudes are on the spot. Our beers came fast when I order them and the food didn't take forever which was nice. Five stars for service. Overall the food and beverages were great and the service was wonderful but I think it's just a little pricey for what you're getting. I totally recommend it and like I said get the toasted ravioli

Stopped here for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our server was friendly and attentive to our needs. The food was served promptly but we did not feel rushed.Food quality was excellent. My wife and I had a wedge salad and it was delicious. I had a po boy and my wife had a Tuscan chicken sandwich. Both were fresh and tasty. Would return often if we lived in the area.

I agree with other reviewers that prefer the ambiance and service on the Hill to Chesterfield. This location will remain "where Uno's used to be." We visited on the Tuesday following Valentine's Day, hoping it might be less crazy busy than the holiday. I too found the tables to be much too close for comfort. We were seated along the wall, and the guy seated at the table behind me kept knocking into me - every time he moved, my chair and table rattled. Likewise, we could hear every word of the loud table of men seated near us. A table of young women garnered more attention than we did - they even got their napkins placed in their laps by the waiter. I lapped my own napkin. I ordered a red wine by the glass, and it was rancid. Even a $10 pauper's glass of vino should be fresh. If their wine is that old, they should give it a stiff whiff and a sample before serving. When we were ordering, the waiter never mentioned whether the main entree came with a side dish of any kind. It would have been nice to know if it came with a veggie or pasta. I decided to be surprised. But If I'd known how small the portion size, I would have ordered a salad. With the overly-price entree, I was counting on a substantial side dish. The 8 oz filet was tender and prepared perfectly medium as I like it. The small side dish of mini-potatoes had a very good flavor. The meal was very tasty, but I think they could offer a side salad or pasta to accompany the $35 dollar filet. Blueberry cobbler for dessert ($8). Once again, a tiny portion, but very good. For the high ticket prices and small portion sizes - there are too many other places that serve more for less. If you are wanting a superior quality steak or pasta, with personal service(worth the $100 bill) - go to Roberto's.

My visit was happy hour(s)(nobody does it for just 1 hour) Thanksgiving Eve. Garlic cheese bread was nearly flavorless as was the minestrone. Both underseasoned. Soup must have been from lunch (or earlier God forbid). Soggy veggies. Sat at the bar and my beertendress was flawless. Ambiance was good and my previous dinner experiences were better.

Excellent Italian food, well exceeded my expectations for a suburban eatery. Highly recommend the tortellini- I have had it both times I've dined here and it is absolutely the perfect combination of creamy, savory, and salty. Other notables: Make a reservation if you're planning for a weekend night, avoid the bar if possible, service there needs attention.

Okay, I agree "the Hill" location has better ambience, but this location still has pretty good food. The Toasted Ravioli, one of their signatures, is quite good. The caprese salad was nice with thick tomatoes. I tried the rigatoni with sausage which was tasty, but the tomato sauce was a little too sweet for me. The beer and wine selection is quite extensive, and the. bartender will give you tasters. Eating in the bar is a good choice, and the happy hour deals are quite good. Their gelato is quite good, and they can package it to go if you like.

Pretty much amazing! We spent all day working on projects around the house, plumbing, painting, washed four of our cars, generally sweated up a storm before deciding to treat ourselves to dinner somewhere nice. It is worth mentioning that we had an amazing lunch that reminded both of us of our time in Iraq...even better because we made it at home. Alas, there is no way easy way to Yelp about the meals we cook at home so I will return to the task at hand. Chopped salad - amazing! Much more interesting than your average chopped salad because of the asiago & red pepper dressing. Also, rather than taking the bacon route for a salty flavor they add an Italian salami instead. Certainly big enough to split. Wife's - off-menu special which involved house-made sun dried tomato pasta with house-made ricotta and pancetta. She was speechless! Mine - I started with the seafood pasta with three pepper cream sauce. It was chocked full of seafood --- shrimp, clams, mussels, scallops and langostinos. The pasta was house-made and cooked perfectly - see photo. The sauce had a bite to it that I never would have guessed came from jalapenos...until the waitress mentioned it while checking on us after the second or third bite. Unfortunately, the heat DID come from jalapenos and those little f^&%#ers do horrible things to me so I was forced to send it back to the kitchen. Had I ever thought that there would be jalapenos anywhere on the menu in a nice Italian restaurant I would have asked exactly what peppers went into the dish. Fortunately, the waitress and the kitchen were very agreeable and offered to make the same dish for me with their Parmesan cream sauce instead. I probably would have done better to have gone in a completely different direction because the replacement just paled in comparison to the original dish which was so good that I seriously contemplated eating it and paying the piper later. Gelato - so good that I could probably write a separate review just for their gelato. I went for a half chocolate and half Reese's that was soooo good. The wife went for the spumoni. Collectively, we agreed that it was probably the best gelato we've had on this side of the pond. It is worth noting that the portions are about 3x the size of what you get anywhere on the continent and, surprisingly, priced similarly. It may sound odd but we will probably find ourselves back there at some time in the near future specifically because one of us has a hankering for their gelato.

My husband and I have been many times. It's always a nice spot for a quiet dinner. Front of the house is very polite and friendly, wait staff is awesome. Love their menu, and they offer a nice variety of wines. Very clean, lovely dining room, just a good all round experience in a quiet neighborhood setting.

We finally visited this place after reading the reviews and multiple recommendations from locals. What a disappointment. I ordered the lasagna, very disappointing to find it cold in the middle. Obviously frozen and heated on request. My wife ordered the grouper at $28.00 ouch! this was bland at best. And to close the meal, since I told them that this was our anniversary dinner, they brought a piece of cake with a nice inscription in chocolate. But the cake was absolutely horrible!, as the lasagna, probably spent more than a week in some fridge before being served to us. It was so bad that when we brought it home, our kids refuse to eat it. Most definitely won't be back.

We were seated at one of their worst tables, which we're used to because we look young and I suppose the expectation is we'll be ordering a cheeseburger and ice tea. Restaurants in St. Louis do this too often and need to realize us casual software designers make a lot of money and spend it well. I'm a wine guy and part of the fun of going out is that I explain the options and virtues to my wife and make a selection for her, then we talk about it. When the waiter brought the wine menu (after having to ask for it) he hovered over us as if we should order right then and then immediately without invitation spouted off nonstop on what we should get. If I haven't asked, it is more polite and less awkward to assume I am capable of making a selection to accompany my meal. We randomly ordered two glasses of wine just to get him to stop. Our white wines came out in stemless glasses, which make the wine warm as you handle them. Some other tables had stemmed glasses so maybe this is another case where you have to look like Daddy Warbucks to get a decent table and glass, I'm not sure. They would likely argue that people in Italy mostly drink wine out of juice glasses and this is true. The difference is most wine consumed in this manner is $2-$4 jug wine (I paid $15 for my glass). The waiter kept moving my wine glass to my right side whenever he brought out a plate or came to check on us (I'm left handed) so another awkward service quirk. I ordered the Veal Nuzio and it pretty much tasted like I was eating a lemon. Based on reviews I've seen of it cooked properly, I assume this was simply not cooked accurately and masked an otherwise good piece of meat. I added a star to the review because the garlic cheese bread appetizer was actually quite good. In the end we paid about $130 and have had better meals down the street for less than $50. My final impression was that of an "Italian" experience you'd find in Disneyland.

Another Excellent dining experience at Gitto's in Chesterfield!!! The manager should be commended on his hiring selection and the Chef commended on his preparation and presentation. THE SERVICE: This visit my server was Stephen, what a delightful gentleman with an enjoyable presentation style of describing the specials (and any dish really), always kept an eye on drink refills and ensuring we lacked for nothing. THE FOOD: I have always enjoyed everything both on and off the menu that I've ordered. First, the presentation is always picture perfect. The taste and quality was wonderful. This particular evening we enjoyed a half-order of their hand made spaghetti as an appetizer where the noodles were hearty and the sauce very flavorful. We enjoyed two specials of the evening, the Lemon Butter Shrimp with Cappelini and Beef Spiedini. The beef was deliciously tender and, frankly, I didn't want to share. Both were delicious and portions generous. Both would be great additions to the daily menu!!! Please keep in mind this is a 5 star experience, in my opinion, and priced accordingly. What I also appreciate is dressing a little more casually and still feeling comfortable in the restaurant and especially on the patio.

Let me just say that I NEVER write bad reviews for businesses, I usually just don't say anything at all. The food was good -- no complaints on that front -- but the service was mediocre to poor. Our waiter wasn't rude or anything. He was largely absent during our dinner, didn't actually serve one of our drinks until halfway through the meal, and then overcharged us on the bill, adding an extra two drinks to our order (one of them alcohol, even though we told him none of us were drinkers at the start of the meal). In a rush to leave we signed the bill and left, not realizing the mistake until later. I called back to see if I could get the bill fixed, and the manager seemed offended and said to me, "Well, I would hope that our customers would look at the bill before they sign." REALLY? What about our server double-checking to make sure he didn't charge us for things we didn't order? I'll never go back there again. I'll grant any restaurant an off night, but management should never be rude like that.

I took Ms T to Charlie Gitto's in Chesterfield for her big birthday. We have been to the location on The Hill and enjoyed it. She has been here with buds. Somehow we had never made it to the Chesterfield location together, even though it is very close to home. We went on a Tuesday night. The place is amazingly busy for a random weeknight. It is roomy, has a great feel and seems always to be busy. Ms T and I are pretty predictable in ordering fried calamari. At CG's it includes rock shrimp and was very well prepared. The coating was light and it was perfectly fried. The serving is very large and for us was too much so half of it went home. We honestly could make a meal on this with a salad between us. It is served with chipotle mayo, which was overly sweet, so use it sparingly. It is good, but the chipote is undetectable. I like that they put the lemon in a little sock so you don't have to fish out seeds. We shared the lobster bisque and Caesar salad. Both were good. The bisque is very rich, almost cheesy with a nice garnish of fresh basil. The Caesar salad was a little different and better than typical, with a more tart, less creamy dressing and very good shaved cheese on top. This cheese was very mild with almost a fruity background. It was a nice choice. Ms T ordered Chicken Nunzio for her entrée. There were three nice chicken breast cutlets, lightly breaded, pan fried and topped with lump crab, fontina and a lemon butter sauce. My bites of it tasted of a little parmesan in the coating, I think. It was very rich and really good. There was plenty of cheese and sauce, but not overdone. My order was a special for the day, halibut topped with a wine and onion sauce, with mushroom risotto and topped with fried leek threads. This was also a very nice dish. The halibut was fresh and delicious. They are not afraid to season dishes. Salt levels were good. There was a good dose of cracked black pepper on the fish. Lemon was provided again and the entire thing worked well together. On the side we had very well grilled vegetables, comprising summer squash and fingerling potatoes. The potatoes had too much black pepper for Ms T but I consider black pepper to be a food group. This is a strong four stars. We had a very nice meal and vowed to return. Our service was impeccable from Kimberly. If I were looking for something to change, I would want cloth table coverings for a restaurant of this caliber. The tables are black Formica or something like that and when anything is dripped on the table it looks bad. We passed on dessert and had to avert our eyes as we left to avoid the prominently displayed gelato case.

Slow service even at the bar, food lacks anything to be desired, and the gelato is flavorless. With all of the really good Italian offerings STL has this is a 100% miss. I have always heard nothing but rave reviews so maybe I hit it on a bad night? Either way I won't be back.

A little overpriced for what you get. $36 for one piece of salmon, a small salad and some veggies with a water is a little too much. It tasted great but with a ball of melted butter on top (thanks to the butter?)

Solid food with good service. I had the Mussel in spicy tomato broth (very good) the free bread (absolutely delish), the caesar salad (average) and the Veal Marsala (OK). The Veal came with potatoes on the side which were very good, also got a side of spaghetti which was OK. The dessert try looked awesome but I was too full to endulge. Overall, maybe less authenico than the CGs on the hill but the food is just as good, the place is a lot bigger, and a lot closer to where I'm at..............

Went there twice for dinner in its first year and thought it was just mediocre and noisy. Our group of 6 pretty much could not hear the person next to us, much less anyone else at the table. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything special. Didn't return until two weeks ago and went for lunch this time. Had a good meal with pizza that was good, but not great, but a salad (the chopped salad with the roasted garlic asiago dressing) that was outstanding. So good in fact that my wife tried to duplicate it at home. Tonight we returned specifically to split an appetizer and each have a large salad. Guess what...they no longer offer the roasted garlic asiago dressing and all they have is a creamy Italian. Despite being disappointed with that we gave it a go. BIG DIFFERENCE. The apparently store bought creamy Italian dressing made the salad ordinary. Interesting that the waiter said when they changed the menu and did away with the dressing he said was the one most ordered, all he has heard is complaints about it no longer being offered. Who knows, maybe garlic or asiago cheese is no longer available to restaurants. A friend said we had to try the calamari. Well, we won't take her advice anymore. It was also just ordinary. Pieces were small, rubbery (remember, it is fried calamari) and after it began to get cold, the taste was not appetizing. All in all I am back to my original opinion of the place and with good choices nearby (Gianfabios, Edgewild, etc.) I won't be back unless I hear they bring back the salad that sparked my interest in the place.

Exceeded my expectations....very nice, comfortable restaurant that's quite popular with the locals. Food was top notch as was the service. We also had an excellent wine suggestion from our server, Amy. We ordered the feature appetizer which was a pan of melted cheese with crostini's and a special homemade chutney. Was seriously good combo, especially with the wine we ordered. We had a group of five so everything from rack of lamb and seafood pasta, to the sea bass feature (not the menu item) and filet nanzio (Charlie specialty item). Everyone was very impressed with the food, and one comment was "it was the best pasta I've ever had". That's quite a compliment cause the group travels extensively. The desserts were great as well, cept for the Canoli Cake - it wasn't bad, just different and not expected. We also had the bread pudding and apple crisp - both were good, but could have done with just a bit less caramel whcih tended to overwhelm the dessert. Would definitely come back....and the group even talked about another trip while we're here for another 2 additional nights. That says a lot!!!!

After waiting nearly 15 minutes for anyone to come to our table we ordered and were given an order of cheese garlic bread, on the house, which was delicious! When dinner came order was wrong and had to be sent back and waited another almost 10 minutes while my husband are his dinner! Then we were offered free dessert, which we declined! They took off one of the salads from our bill but just got tired of being told "we want to make it right." Food was good but wouldn't recommend for an upscale dinner!

My wife and I just moved here from Boston, being that we are trying to find a true Italian restaurant this one does not compare. For starters the men in suits standing at the front door glared at us as if we were not good enough to be in Chesterfield. What a joke. Then we were quickly rushed in and rushed out of the restaurant like we were going to bring the cliental expectations down. Just because I am not in a suit and tie doesn't mean I am some poor guy guy that winded up in your restaurant. The food was a 7/10 but due to the service and the AWFUL management we will stick to our local Italian restaurants right here in the Central West End.

Decent meal dampened by a very poor managerial experience. After the funeral of my grandmother and grandfather who died days apart, my family came for a dinner. After many hours of great behavior among people he'd never met, my baby made a fuss when I went to the bathroom. I came back less than 2 minutes later to the manager saying we were disrupting the restaurant. By this time it was after 10:30 and the restaurant was almost empty, and the baby had been very quiet until just then. We were on our way out at that point, our party of 13 people had spent over $1000, and had really not been loud in any way until that point when mommy disappeared for a minute and the baby got worried. Shame on that manager for giving a grieving family a hard time for a disturbance that hardly existed in a mostly empty restaurant. Food was ok, the salmon was gross mushy farmed salmon and the cut of lamb was misidentified on the menu. Veal and pasta dishes were good, and the waiters Were great.

So close to 5 stars it should scare you. : ) This Gitto's location should give the west county crowd 1%ers something to spend that excessive amount of jack on... and still have something left over for the pool guy. Great service was the order of the evening. Very casual for our group as we made it clear we were a casual crowd. They play to your tastes here, but we probably spoiled a dinner or two near us. We like to laugh a lot! lol We had wonderful calamari and bruschetta apps. The bread was wood grilled. Perfect and smoky. I had a caprese salad with tomatoes from Arkansas. It was awesome, and so large I gave half of it away. I had a special meal with blackened beef tenderloin medallions, mushrooms, and rigatoni in an asiago cream sauce. Wow. Flavor all over the place and a little heat, too. It was a rich meal. : ) Great place.

This place was recommended by the concierge at Doubletree. Turns out she was comped. Worst veal I've ever had. Some cow died of constipation 5 years ago after watching too much fox tv and her sorry ass ended up at Charlie Gitto's. For gods sake it was a stale, salty, belt; not veal. The dessert was pretty good and I would recommend this place to Sarah Palin. Somewhere Charlie's mom must be very sad.

I have been there three times. The first time, the place was new and packed. I didn't like it at all and told myself I would never go back. Recently I gave the place another try. It was very late in the evening and the place was almost empty. I appologized that our group of six had arrived so late. In any event, the food was great as was the service. Based on that experience, I decided to go back again. My third visit was again during off hours and the food and service were as good as during my second visit. I guess I will have to try it during a peak period.

Came in on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the rigatoni and sausage and my boyfriend ordered the tortellini. Our food was brought out very fast and was excellent. He got the tiramisu for dessert and it was amazing. I normally don't like tiramisu, but I loved this one! The greatest thing about our experience was the service. Our drinks were always filled and our server/the entire staff had an elevated sense of service. We will absolutely be back!

We have eaten at Gittos many times. This time we were there for a birthday celebration. For the apps we had the Lobster bisque (exquisite), the toasted ravs (excellent), and the Sicilian eggplant ( this is not to miss -amazing ). Our main courses were tortellini alla panna ( very good - usually exceptional but the prosciutto was too hard or chewy this time) Veal nunizo - ( marvelous - well balanced) Steak nunzio ( again marvelous ) Spaghetti and meatballs ( yummy - enough to feed a family of six.) Alex, our server was very attentive without being invasive. He said that our dessert of cinnamon roll bread pudding would be a life changing experience. And he was right. It was extraordinary.

I feel like I should start by saying that I really only eat at Charlie Gitto's for lunch. As far as sit-down lunch options go, Charlie Gitto's is a nice place to go. I have sat inside and outside on the patio, which is nice and surprisingly not too noisy from the traffic on Olive. I like to start out with the Caesar salad ($6, or $2.95 as an entree starter), which I honestly think is the best Caesar salad anywhere. It comes with lots of dressing, good croutons, and a fresh slice of parmesan cheese, which is a nice touch. Not to mention that the lettuce isn't a lot of crunchy hearts but is made of fresh and leafy greens. Mmmm. The entrees are on the big side, so I usually do a salad and split an entree with my dining partner. We have split the Cheese Tortellini ($12, which comes in a pesto cream sauce with roasted red peppers--delicious), the Chicken Pasta ($11, which is chicken spedini with spinach, tomatoes, and rigatoni in a cream sauce), and the Ziti Fra Diavolo ($10, which has spicy tomato sauce that definitely has a kick!). I have also tried the eggplant parmesan and chicken parmesan, both of which are good. If you split an entree it's a pretty reasonable lunch option and there's enough food that, with the salad, you can even have leftovers. Side note: Don't worry how you're dressed for lunch. One day my mom and I were in t-shirts and jeans and debated whether we were too under dressed to go, but we went for it and sat on the patio with other people in t-shirts and even hospital scrubs.

Service was good, food not so much. Two of was had chicken lemonata chicken tasted old like it had been cooked and frozen for a long time. They comp the chicken but not the replacement meal. Had a $13 appetizer of cheese and chutney. Cheese appeared to have two tablespoons of oil on it. Not worth $13. Manager came to apologize and ask what the problem was while the cook peered at us from a distance. Seemed very awkward.

Really unimpressed. Brought my mom here for her birthday and the food was mediocre (I tried my meal, my brothers', and mom mom's). It was very mediocre for the price that the food is. I did however like the "Happy Birthday" that was drawn in frosting pen on the plate that held my mom's birthday cake when I told the waiter it was her birthday. It was a nice touch they added to the normal routine I see in other restaurants where they just bring you a small dessert.

We got the same server, reminded him we had him before, and everything was in full swing! Our table was in a corner, and somehow the blower was blowing right on us, and I was FREEZING. I don't know if our server is some kind of an HVAC magician, but he got it tamed. I got an Italian Salad: red onion, tomato, kalamata olives, gorgonzola, bacon, white beans, zucchini, avocado and mixed greens. This was a sumptuous mound of food. I had to stop eating it, or I would have no room for the entree. Got a to-go vessel!! Dining partner got Caesar salad and had to get a to-go vessel, as well. Entrees: dining partner got what I got last time here: Tortellini alla Panna: meat-filled tortillini with mushrooms, peas and proscuitto in parmesan cream sauce. He may be stuck on this! Likes it a LOT!! I got an off-menu special of diver scallops on a bed of braised cabbage with potatoes and other appropriate accoutrements. Those diver scallops were buttery deliciousness and so sea-ful!! Yum! I know the cabbage might sound goofy, but it worked so well!! A lovely dinner with good wine and grand service.

First I want to point out that I can be a snob about Italian cuisine. With that said, this restaurant is superb to say the least. I recommend trying the toasted ravioli. I enjoyed the rigatoni with sausage. The perfect blend of sweet and spicy. Another note to make us the service is beyond compare. Our server was extremely attentive and friendly. The staff also took care of clearing plates and refilling our water glasses as if we were the only guests in the room. There are no complaints I can think of with the exception that my stomach wasn't big enough to eat more delicious food. If you're in St Louis, go here without hesitation.

This was an absolute awesome restaurant. The atmosphere was fantastic and the service was superb. The toasted ravioli was the best that I've ever had in my life! No wonder that's what they're famous for! The wine list was exhaustive. Lots of Italians and Californians to choose from. The ambience was very impressive as well.

A client had told me long ago to visit Charlie Gitto's, however it always was pushed to the "maybe some other time" pile of restaurants. Finally, when my best friend asked me where I wanted to go for my Birthday, it popped into my head. I made reservations that morning for 7:30. We arrived a little early. We were soon seated after. The place was packed! From the moment we walked in, the service was amazing. Being a former waitress, I always start with high hopes and then it's like a deduction list with the errors they make. The staff at Charlie Gitto's made NONE. We ordered the toasted ravioli (yum!), green salads (LOVED the dressing!), and each of ordered the lasagna. Oh my word, AMAZING! I only ate about 1/3 of it because I wanted dessert as well. (And it's always a bonus getting another meal out of it). My friend got the strawberry shortcake and I got 2 scoops of gelato (vanilla bean and strawberry). Perfect ending to our Italian meal!!! Our drinks were never below half full, our food was hot, we always had clean silverware, it was just awesome! They even put a candle in my gelato for my Birthday. Well done CG! We left with full stomachs (and leftovers) and a place I know I want to visit more often!

The food that they got right was good...my friend got the wrong food...they forgot our appetizer...they gladly stored a cheesecake that we got at The Cheesecake Factory in their cooler, and charged us $10 for it...on top of the 20% gratuity...I understand the $10 charge, I just wish that they would have mentioned it up front...when asked if we could get separate bills, the server told us that the people up front told him it would all be on one and he would just figure it out at the end...what he did was ask each person what they had and he still got it wrong...after we were served the main course, we were never asked how things were...they just took our empty plates and gave us the wrong bills...overall service was sub par...not the best experience. :-(

Charlie Gitto's in Chesterfeild is a very nice facility. The separate dining rooms reduces the noise and makes for a more intimate experience. It has a good outdoor seating area (big plus) and I like the dessert counter in the lobby were you can get Geletto, pastries and other sweets to take home with you. The service is attentive but not intrusive. The waiters have lots of back-up servers that refill drinks, bus tables and serve food. The food is what gets them the 5th star. Excellent recipes and well executed entrees make Charlie Gitto's a special place for special occasions. I'm a fan of locally owned/non-chain restaurants. It's extra cool when you find one that is truly deserving of your patronage.

Long story short - I spent weeks organizing this night from across the country for my Mom's birthday. We went during the day to decorate the tables and the manager seemed like he was doing me a favor the entire time. When we dined, one of the meals was wrong and the manager came over and created a bit of a scene by having the conversation in front of my party of 21, and once again, acting like he was doing me a favor. The server was very nice and good with the exception of drawing attention to the wrong meal. For the high prices they charge in a mid west town, and the mandatory 20% gratuity they added on, I expected stellar customer service, which I did not receive.

First visit live in Michigan. The decor and bar area is very nice. Service was solid food was reasonable. I had veal dinner and I thought average. The amount of food they give per serving is large. I prefer smaller amount of food that is better than average. Salads can be split between two. If your looking for average food, a very pleasant atmosphere but significant helpings this the place. Overall price is in line

I have gone here twice for dinner and once for lunch. Good to great food everytime. First time I went with parents who were visiting. My dad ordered the grouper special, which he LOVED. Seriously good. I had the seafood risotto, which was less successful. Some grit and broken shells left me a little disappointed, although the flavor was good. When I went for lunch, I had the lobster bisque and a house salad. Salad was quite good, although a bit overdressed for my tastes. Lobster bisque was delicious, decent amount of lobster and not chewy. Last time for dinner, I had the cioppino and house salad. Salad was MUCH better, not overdressed. Cioppiono was delicious. Their espressos are great, and served with rock candy (cute touch).

Certainly the busy place even on a Saturday at 6pm. Made the reservation through Yelp/OpenTable 24hrs in advance... for 6 to celebrate my daughter's Confirmation. While in Church for the service, got a call from CG staff 4 hours in advance asking me to confirm my reservation and that I would be there (really?)... called them back a couple of hours later after service to confirm... Arrived at 5:50pm... immediately seated in the worst spot ever... right at the table at the entry to the seating area right off the hostess/cafe entry area... (which was already quite full of large noisy groups)... So, I sat at my table right in the middle of everything with every person having to pass by us on one side or the other as they go to the bathroom, get seated, take an order, leave, etc... across the hostess area I see a large seating area that is mostly unoccupied... and quiet... So, for CG's... strike out #1... here I am to spend several hundred dollars on a meal for 6 people and you put me in such a crappy spot when there was plenty of seating elsewhere in the restaurant... unfortunately, this set the tone for the evening... the tables were so close together that the waitstaff couldn't reach 40% of our table without colliding with people or pillars... so they had to have us pass plates to each other.. Wine pours were meager for the price ($8.50/glass for the only mediocre Reisling available?... really?)... Calamari and shrimp appetizer was tasteless and not well cooked (some batter remaining).. dipping sauce didn't help... Caesar salad was lacking in flavor as well and the side of anchovies didn't help at all (at least those had flavor!). I ordered one of the more expensive off-menu "specials"... the Filet Nunzio... (not realizing that it was so highly priced at $38)... this was a thick 8oz piece of Filet of Beef Tenderloin covered in a lemon-butter white sauce with spoonful of crab meat and pieces of fontina cheese scattered about... enjoyed the sauce and limited amount of crab meat... the filet was under-cooked (too much red-blood for a medium rare request) and not very tender for a supposed "center cut"... the other diners in my group had basic pasta dishes that were OK but nothing exceptional (lots of cheese, basic red sauce, etc.)... We did enjoy the selection of gelato... the flavors were very fresh but not inexpensive ($3.50 for 1 scoop, $5 for 2, $7 for 3)... I probably enjoyed this part the most... Also, note to waitstaff... when your patron has his money clip sitting on the table in front of him with his napkin and all the dessert dishes have been cleared away by your very attentive bus-persons, this usually means "we're ready for the check..." I waited 10 minutes before our waiter finally finished taking orders and serving dishes to other tables before he approached and finally asked if there would be anything else... Final conclusion: we chose CG's instead of Macaroni Grill or Maggiano's thinking we'd have a better "local" non-chain type experience... sorry to say that both places would have been equal to if not better than CG's... and the price point would have been lower.

We had lunch today at the Chesterfield location. This was our third visit, once for dinner and now twice for lunch. We came expressly for the Fish and Chips special. Our lunch arrived and I couldn't believe it. The batter was gummy and the fish was barely warm. I called our waiter over and asked him to touch my fish. He agreed it was terrible. (My wife's meal was also Fish and Chips and was lousy also). The replacement arrived and was considerably crisper and hotter. The waiter said that our orders were the 3rd and 4th of the day. What did that mean? I know that fish won't stay crispy forever so I was counting on something featured as the "special" to have a quick turnover. Not so. When we were presented our check, I was aghast that our wine (Kendall Jackson was $10.50 per "modest or even small" pour. That is just unconscionable pricing! At our earlier first dinner visit, I ordered the "Charlie Gitto specialty" Bucatini Amatriciana. My order arrived but with a shiny bolt head (yes a bolt!) sitting mixed with the pasta. It wasn't even buried. When I pointed this out, my dinner was replaced. At the end of the meal, there was some discussion among the wait staff/manager before they finally decided to comp my meal. Sorry, but we are never going back again. Maybe this location still has the Pizzaria Uno curse.

Very good Italian food. Amazing meat balls and chopped salad. Good service as well. I had the baked lasagna with bolognese and added an extra meat ball. Its a must try!

This was our first time dining at this location and overall it was a good dining experience! Our server was excellent, very attentive but not annoying. My husband and I each ordered a salad and then shared the Lobster Ravioli. It was delicious! I am glad we shared because it was so rich. I was slightly disappointed, however that our meal was not split before it came to our table. It was a rather difficult dish to split, splashing sauce all over the table. But I suppose I can't complain, because they did not charge a split fee. One of the other people dining with us ordered a glass of wine and the server helped him choose. The server forgot to mention that the one he suggested was $15 a glass (yes, a glass!) My wine, on the other hand was only $7.50, so there are "normal" priced glasses of wine. Had he known the price, he probably would have chosen something different! Just beware when you order wine! Overall, service and food was excellent. For a nice dinner out, I would definitely give it a try!

Since growing up in South Philadelphia I am always leery of people taking me to Italian restaurants in the mid-west (Sorry). Many times when I ask for a good place to eat I am referred to the Olive Garden or its likes. I used Yelp! referrals to select this restaurant and the Yelp! members came through in a big way. The food and service was great. The menu selection was great and the food very enjoyable. Well worth it if you live or travels to the Chesterfield area.

Terribly disappointing. If you're expecting to be treated as if you were at the original Gitto's on the Hill, don't go. Our table was separated from the bar area by a curtain, so we were jostled and poked throughout the dinner. I ordered rack of lamb, and asked for it medium. I was told the chef cooked it medium rare, no argument. Hearing there were pomme frites with another entree, I asked for some with my lamb as a substitution. Nope, waiter wouldn't even ask. Could I pay for them as a side? No. Food came. Lamb was raw, took two bites and had some mushroom ravioli on the side, so I ate that. 4 edible bites for $30. When I got home, I became extremely sick. Called our dinner companions and heard one of them became ill as well. Do not go.

I have been wanting to go to Gitto's for a long time. It was an amazing dinner. Service was outstanding, food outstanding, bill was high but not so high you would not want to come back. For starters we had garlic cheese bagels. Four slices of bagels with garlic and cheese. Wow was that great. My wife Mrs K had a bowl of chicken soup instead of her normal salad. She asked for and received chicken soup without any vegetables. I don't know how they did it but they did. She is a vegetable freak but she had a bout of problems with her tummy and the Dr. said no vegetables for three weeks. I had the house salad with the house dressing. A typical Italian salad with a nice sweet sour dressing. Mighty tasty. The main course was rigatoni with sausage for me and Mrs K had the Lasagna. I also asked for a link of Italian sausage to be served with the rigatoni. Perfect. The lasagna was a huge portion and looked great. Mrs K will get at least one more meal from the left overs. My rigatoni also was perfect and I got to take some home. The rigatoni was served spicy and the server warned me it was spicy. I don't think it needed a warning but for the faint of heart it might be a problem. Fantastic meal. We came without reservations and I don't know if that would be a smart move on the weekend. It was barely a smart move on a Thursday night. This place is HUGE and so is the parking lot. They really know how to put the food out and fast. I am still having a bit of a pasta hangover. I have not had pasta in months and it was so worth the wait. If you have been like me and not been to a Gitto's restaurant I strongly recommend getting off you butt and go. Don't wait for 20 something years like I did. Another St. Louis gem marked off the list. pk

Excellent happy hour. Excellent service, food and atmosphere. $2.95 apps and $5 Blue Moon drafts (and other drinks). The apps were all good and well worth the price. Had was the calamari, meatball sliders, tortellini and the mussels. Then, topped that off with a cannoli and banana cream pie (not specials). Service was the best. I can't wait to go back, maybe even by myself (with a friend on this trip). Place was packed, better get there early! 3pm to 6pm.

Great for either lunch or dinner. Reasonable prices for delicious, high-quality pasta. The Manicotti may be the best I've ever had. Love their house salad as well.

NOTE: Review of brunch only. My family came to this Charlie Gitto's location for Sunday brunch. It was excellent all around. The service was outstanding - staff was extremely pleasant and accommodating. Our server was very attentive, but not annoyingly so. The restaurant itself is very lovely and contemporary. I actually found the music to be a bit annoying (it was like techno new wave jazz or something), but that's just my perspective. The restrooms were clean and there was ample parking. The food was delicious. I had the Eggs Benedicto, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I'd actually never had eggs benedict before, and there was no way I could've been disappointed. The poached eggs were perfect and the hollandaise was rich and creamy. There were tomatoes, spinach and seared filet of beef stacked on top of the English muffin, all of which were delicious and sopped up all the wonderful egginess. Others in my family had the Italian 3-cheese pizza and the Kentucky Hot Brown, both of which looked delicious and satisfying. The mimosas were very nice, too. We had such a nice experience for brunch, I would love to go back for dinner sometime. Highly recommend! Oh, and another note: make sure you come hungry because the portions are quite large.

Let me start out by saying that I normally don't write reviews, but I felt like I had to given my experience. This truly was a waste of money. Let me say this again, this place is a waste of money! Service was horrendous and the food was cold and tasteless. It boggles my mind that others have given this place 4 stars.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
