Such great food found in such a quiet little town, loved my Fajitas, served by a very friendly and polite staff who were very attentive. Been years since i've been asked smoking or not, not something we have back home. Well worth stopping here, you won't be disappointed.

We are traveling and wanted Mexican. It was as good as any we have had. A huge selection on menu and huge plate of food. We are vegetarian and were impressed we 7 selections for $9.99. I would eat there again.

The food was pretty good. I'm not really sure there are any alternatives around this small town.. We just stopped here on the way back to Kansas City. Definitely not on par with some of the Mexican I've eaten but it did the trick. I had fajitas. Margaritas aren't really worth it. Service was excellent though! Very fast and courteous.

We pulled in today just before noon. The sidewalk out front is terrible a lawsuit waiting to happen. The windows really look bad now. The vapor barrier between the two layers of glass is long gone and they are a mess. By appearance they need to get out of this derelict and into a new location. The kid brought us chips and salsa, he had his thumb inside and on the bottom of the top bowl. Both bowls had to have the water dumped out of them as if they had been stacked flat and still wet. We threw the top bowl aside and used just one. The salsa was pretty good. I reached for the salt shaker and it was all stuck shut with old salt and salsa on top. How basic is it to clean and fill salt and peppers? The food was just average. The beans were way to watery. This place needs a close look by corporate.

My family loves mexican food and we eat here at least weekly. The service is outstanding and the food is great (though the surroundings could be nicer).

Hubby and I love Mexican food. We made a trip to the hardware store and decided to try this restaurant. I ordered a tossed salad and a "A La Carte" order of tacos. There salad was a little challenged with very little besides lettuce and bell pepper. The tacos were kind of bland. Our waiter spoke very little English -- so it was hard to ask about the food. My husband didn't eat much of his lunch either. But it was clean and the service was prompt.

Great staff and always prompt service. Pretty standard Tex-Mex menu with some unique items. I always enjoy what ever I order. Pre-made alcohol drinks are a little on the weaker side. Bar made drinks are always strong and tasty.

After eating waaaaay too many grilled cheese sandwiches on our midwestern trip, the vegetarian in my family was THRILLED to see an actual Vegetarian section on a menu. Thank you El Maguey. Generally speaking, El Maguey is like most restaurants of this type outside of the Southwest--quick service, staffed with native spanish speakers, big menu with all the typical Mexican classics, probably not spicy enough for hardcore fans of authentic Mexican chow. A particularly problematic dish may be the beans--flavorless except for onion. But if you frequent this kind of restaurant, you know what you're getting and except for the beans it fulfilled our expectations completely. De rigeur free chips and salsa to start your meal, beer & mixed drinks available. According to a sign on the wall, there are drink specials every weeknight ($2.50 mexican beers on Thursdays, for example). As I said before, it was especially nice to have over a half-dozen meatless combo dishes available and easy to find on the menu. Also had a kids menu with a combo of Mexican and non-ethnic fare. We were surprised to find a smoking section in the restaurant, but maybe this is a Missouri thing. We are from out of state. A sign on the door said the whole place is smoke free for at least a few hours on Sunday.

I had lunch here today with two co-workers. My meal was really bland. I had the #5 Lunch Special (a burrito, a taco, and refried beans). The beef filling for both the taco and burrito were generous, but lacked any spicing or flavor. I was expecting a lot more heat and spice to my meal. Fortunately there were plenty of chips to eat with the refried beans. I had heard much about El Maguey and how good it was. I expect some spice and a little heat in my Mexican food. This was not spicy or hot. Although the meal was filling, portions a good size. I would not go back because there was no flavor to the food.

We have eaten here several times as we live here in town. Pretty good mexican food for midwest mexican food. The service has always been excellent. The food was quick in getting to us and the flavor was good.

Being from Texas, I eat A LOT of Mexican food. Real Mexican food. This Mexican food is less than impressive. However if you're from the Midwest like my husband and like bland Mexican food, you'd like it.

Pretty good for Mexican food in Missouri to a Texan that eats a lot of Mexican food. Carne asada was very good and chips-salsa were also good. Flour tortillas were a little dry, but worth the stop.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
