Great local place in the burbs! My rents live near by and we've been to Tommy's twice. I've been pleased with my experiences. The servers are attentive, the food comes out fast and fresh, and it's super tasty. The burgers are well seasoned and the bun is fluffy and fresh. The fries are just ok, so make sure you sub for the onion rings. Totally worth it! The Malts are huge - one full size was plenty for 3 of us. I think they could use a bit more malt powder, but they're good and very generous. You can get as many flavors as you want in one for no additional price! Perfect for an excessive gal like myself ;) I'm happy that something successful has finally opened in that cursed spot, and I hope they stick around.

Food/Drink: Burger, Malt and fries is just what the doctor ordered. After looking at all the reviews, I wish I had ordered the cheese curds, but oh well. The malt combos and the option to "make your own" pushed me over the edge of awesome (and a full malt is plenty for two people). The house fries were pretty good on their own and the burger was cooked well and the bread didn't disintegrate in grease. I even heard some raves about the chili. Ambiance: Here's the insider knowledge, I think (maybe) it changed recently. I remember driving by this place in the past and it didn't have the same interior it does today. But the setup and look is awesome. Still pretty easy to get in and get food, enough signage to make sure you know you're in malt shoppe and great color scheme (from what I can tell). A little on the noisy side if you're not close to the windows. Service: Great. She kept checking in with us and brought out whatever was ready right away. Our bill was on our table as we were winding down. Everything was clean even though it was kid's night. Overall: I'll be back, even if it's just for the malts. But there's enough on the menu for me to make a few trips (but probably not many more). Double check the hours and just be aware that it can be loud (lots of families, teams, teens, etc) and crowded at some times.

No frills malt shop serving delicious shakes and malts. The burgers are the old fashioned kind, greasy and flat...it's what I like on occasion and what I expect at a malt shop or diner. The place is not quite up-to-date and probably could use an update...the furnishings are getting very worn out. I will come back though for the good malts and burgers!

I've eaten at Tommy's twice. Not happy with the burgers, but thought I'd give it a second chance. The burgers are very well done/burnt and they were out of fries. How can a burger joint be out of fries? Not impressed. The malts are good though.....

I would come back here again. I had the Fried Mushroom and Swiss Burger with onion rings. I also had a root beer malt/shake. The burger patties are thin, but tasty. On the burger I had, I would have picked sauteed mushrooms over the deep fried ones. The menu states they offer some stuffed "Lucy" burgers, I would be interested to compare the stuffed burgers against their regular burgers. The onion rings had a flaky coating and the menu made it sound like they were made there, and it did look like it. The shake was good, and I'd go back to try a malt. They have 18 flavors and you can combine flavors. Service was friendly and the food came out fast, but it was not terribly busy.

Decided on a whim to take my kids here for lunch Sunday (3/8/15). No idea what the draw of this place is. We waited 10 minutes for a table (there were only three of us). When we were brought to our table, we saw the restaurant was only half full - not sure what the delay in seating was. The wait staff stood by our table trying to determine who would be our server (this isn't something the customer should ever hear). My daughter and I ordered burgers, my son ordered a grilled sandwich. The food came in an acceptable amount of time considering the restaurant was starting to empty out now. Similar to another review, my burger was completely burned on the edges and I kept getting charred bits with each bite - not pleasant. Their "House Fries" were bland and soft. The overall service was terrible - our waiter walked by out table several time and there were two empty water glasses sitting - I finally had to stop him and ask for water. This will be our first and last trip to Tommy's - I won't even bother to try the Chaska location. My daughter said as we were leaving - "We should have just went to Culvers" - she was absolutely right.

I had a "mix and match" any flavor of malt and went with the ever classic hot fudge and peanut butter. It was delicious. The ambience was nice, a very 50'sesque for decor and music. The seats in the booth might have been purchased in the fifties as a spring was kind of poking me in the buttocks, but I looked past it as the food was good and the prices were nice. The service was good, not great. A good place for family, as my girls were performing circus acts like children do in public.

Not sure what all the hype is about. McDonald's across the street does chicken way better, DQ is a couple doors down and you can drive a quarter mile east to Burger Jones and get a much better burger. Meh may work in Chaska, won't last long in Burnsville.

I am so glad the owner of the Tommy's Malt Shop in Chaska opened up at this location! We went there opening night for burgers and a malt. I had the mushroom and swiss burger and a coffee/chocolate malt. The malt was sublime! The burger tasted great and I enjoyed the fries as well. I thought the food was very reasonably priced. I can already tell we'll become regulars here.

We were starving and stopped here based on good reviews. The Oreo malt was wonderful. I got the California burger. It was good. A little thin but it's not expensive so I didn't feel taken advantage of. My husband got the bison burger with bacon and he liked it. Not as good as buffalo tap but it was a close second. We really liked the fries. Great service despite everyone being pretty young. We'll suggest this place to our friends.

I'm in love! This is a hidden gem in a strip mall in savage. Burgers are juicy and tasty and big. Juicy Lucy blew the Nooks' out of the water. Amazing flavor. Fries were great too and the malt was HUGE and tasty! A lot of the staff was young, but very friendly. I will be back again soon!

What a fun throwback place! Malts are awesome and priced perfect (same price no matter what you put in it!). My wife got a smoked juicy and it was fantastic. The kiddos loved their burger and hot dog. We will definitely be back!!

Driven by this place many times, but never stopped before last week. When I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised. It was so cute inside! It appeared newly painted a soft blue color on the walls and catchy sayings hanging. They had a huge chalkboard with current staff recommendations for malt and shake flavors. Once I saw the menu I knew it was going to be hard to decide what flavor malt I wanted. Butterscotch or caramel with chocolate?! I settled on the recommended latter and a honey, rosemary, olive oil grilled cheese with sweet potato fries. This meal was amazing! The fries were cooked perfectly with just enough stuffing they weren't mushy. Then, the grilled cheese was a brilliant combo of flavors and I am not sure that I will eat one any other way again. Lastly, the staff were very friendly and had lots of suggestions for us.

Great place for burgers and malts. Prompt service and friendly service. Togo cups available for malts :) Oldie music (50tys 60tys) adds to the pleasure.

I came here with my wife and a friend of ours for lunch yesterday. To start, we split an order of fried cheese curds, which were excellent. A bit pricy, though, for the amount we got. We each got a burger with cheese (and the cheese cost extra). The burgers come plain, and they charge extra for toppings, so we didn't get extra toppings. Their website boasts that the burgers are cooked medium well, so I assumed they would be cooked all the way through. Not so, at all. Our burgers, which were fairly thin burgers, were burnt on the outside while remaining pink through most of the innards. I don't like my burgers pink and neither does my wife, who gets sick very easily at such things. We assumed they would be brown all the way through, and thought wrong. My wife even left 2/3 of her burger behind as a result. I forced my way through mine and didn't enjoy the taste at all. The fries, however, were quite good...perhaps even fresh cut. This brings us to our malts, or should I say, generic shakes. My wife got chocolate, I got butterscotch, and our friend got strawberry. We enjoyed them very much, but they were not malts. I doubt any malt powder was used. My butterscotch malt had almost no flavor beyond the vanilla ice cream used, and if I had not been the one who ordered it, I would've thought they had ordered vanilla for me. If I were to come back here again, it would be for cheese curds and a malt, though I'm sure I can find both elsewhere cheaper (especially with Culvers and Dairy Queen both offering similar products on their menus).

That was the best meal I have had in a long time. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING. I had the honey glazed grilled cheese with sweet potato fries and my cousin had the chicken sandwich, and we both loved our food. We shared the fried brownie sundae--the perfect end to a perfect meal! Can't wait to go back again to try the malts!

Malts. Burgers. Cheese curds. Service. Yums. I grew up on Snuffy's and have been looking for a true malt and burger joint since I left Highland Park. Then came Tommy's. I'd like to get my complaints out first and that is the location (annoying to get into) and the interior design. The place feels naked inside... Plain, bare bones, not comfortable. Thankfully I forget these things when I'm mowing down a burger and s'mores malt. That's right, s'mores malt. GET IT. I've had a few different burgers from Tommy's and have tried several starters. Most notably as a Minnesota state fair fan married to a woman from Wisconsin, the cheese curds are delicious. They are the best I've found outside of the fair. The burgers unfortunately are standard fare but they are the necessary and wondrous salty side to the malts. Service has always been quick and pleasant here with no hiccups or accuracy issues. The interior is clean though again, bland. Tommy's is still a must-stop if you can wind through the terrible traffic design of the Burnsville/Savage border. I have recommended it to several friends and really pushed the s'mores malt. Overall a must try if you drive by!

Cute place! Tommy's Malt Shop reminds me of Snuffy's that are located throughout the twin cities. One difference that I really enjoyed was with every burger or sandwich they offer fries on the side you can always upgrade (which we did) to sweet potato, waffle, or onion rings on the side. Compared to Snuffy's where you would had to purchase a basket on the side. The servers seemed all very friendly it was a packed house for a Saturday evening but the service was still good took our orders right away, and food came out shortly. The burgers are thin as mentioned from other reviewers but they are seasoned well. Tommy's also toasts their buns and butters it making it have a nice crunch. I ordered the Fried Mushroom Burger be warned the mushrooms are deep fried slices I totally thought they were fried not deep fried which threw me off still good though. The boyfriend went with the smoky lucy which was also tasty. Overall great experience I really loved the coffee flavored malt (tastes like Haagen Daz ice cream). Great to find a old fashion themed malt shop in the south metro.

This was the first place I ate at when I went to MN and love it! Came here with no expectations except my best friend, my aunt and I were starving. The burgers and fries were on point - we all had no complaints! Everyone working there seemed so cheerful. And you know what that means right? Happy workers make a happy place for happy customers! YAY! :)

So good! Finally a great burger and malt shop in the suburbs! Got the California burger and the Oreo malt. So yummy. Can't wait to go back and try something different!

Love the shakes and onion rings. Tuesdays kids meals are $2 and kids shakes are $2! Great for families!

First time here just average - malts were good. Kid meal hamburger bun was hard as a hockey puck. The chicken tortilla soup had little to no chicken in it.
