I came here for lunch first time today and it was a great experience. I had the crispy noodles with stirfry on top; highly recommended dish. Besides the delicious food they have there, everyone was also very friendly and welcoming as I entered the door. Ontop of that theres is also Rosedale shopping center a block down the street from it. I also noticed they have added Pho to the menu, which I will definitely try next time Im there for lunch. I am confident it will be just as delicious and savory as my crispy noodles dish today. Great people and great food!!!!

I have been going to his place for over 20 years now. They have the best sesame chicken and hot and sour soup, I have ever had. Their general Tso's and Peking chicken are also very good (if you are a fan of the battered and deep fried chicken with sauce). I also want to add, all of their chicken is white meat, which to me is a plus. Their lunch specials are super reasonable, $5 for soup or salad, entree and an app (cream cheese wontons, chicken wings, egg roll, etc). Dinner is also reasonable, ~$8-10 per meal. If you are in the area and want to try something new try this place. You won't regret it!

I'm not sure why this place has such a high rating. The service was good. Really friendly staff. However, this was some of the blandest beyond Americanized Chinese food I have ever experienced. I'm pretty sure they opened a box of frozen sesame chicken from Costco or something and heated it up. I doubt anything was made from scratch or even partly from scratch. The atmosphere was outdated and bordering on unclean. Would not recommend for anyone.

It's what you'd expect in terms of western style Chinese food, but it's just made with better quality and fresher ingredients. Definitely a local favorite.

I get the Sesame chicken every single time! It's the best! Great place to get a quick lunch for cheap.

Newly remodeled due to a pregnant woman with low blood sugars driving through the restaurant destroying the dining area. The family owned restaurant still had the same two brothers and father running the restaurant. They do make everything from scratch and with lots of pride. The quiet brother normally waits on the tables with the assistance if his wife. The more talkative brother and chef who learned how to cook from his Father in China travels often to learn how to update the recipes. New addition baby Michael is now a toddler and frequently waddles around the dining area following his aunt or mother around. This family believes in community and really enjoys giving back. I frequently stop in for everything from Pho to thai food to greasy American chinese. I highly recommend the general taos chicken or pork.. I also enjoy Hunan pork and pad see eww.

This was our first visit back after they were closed for awhile, due to a car running into building. I hate to say we were very disappointed. My husband orders the pad Thai every time. It was totally different, very wet sauce and flavorless. We overheard someone working there that they were cooking without using salt, not sure if that is the problem but I doubt we will be back. When I asked if they changed the recipes I was told no and they have the same chef. But everything we ate and have previously ordered did not taste the same. Really too bad!

I've gotten take out here and eaten in once. Both experiences were great! Eating in for lunch I got a curry chicken lunch special and it came with a pot of delicious tea, a salad, my entree and a great egg roll. My sister got the Cantonese chicken lo mien and has equally high reviews. Each entree was like $7.50 with enough for leftovers. Winner, winner- chicken dinner!

My husband took me here in 2009 and we've gone at least 3 times a month ever since. The atmosphere isn't anything to write home about. But the food makes up for it. We've never had a complaint about service. One of the owners is always there and comes out to chat with the customers. Love the veggie egg rolls. We believe they put cinnamon in them and that just adds that special something. Sesame shrimp, kung pao mock duck, the lighter option of the steamed seafood vegetables is amazing with their garlic sauce. I would bottle that stuff if I could.

I love Willow Gate! Have been coming here since I was a kid and it never disappointed. Atmosphere: dingy in a good way. Cool Great Wall statue out front and nice decor. Really gnarly Lego model of the restaurant in back for some reason. And gotta love the lucky cats. Service: Always superb, and they treat their regulars well. Prompt and friendly. Food: Most importantly, the food is great. My favorite Thai place closed down a few years ago and while I have never been able to replace their pad thai, Willow Gate comes close. Their pad thai is as spicy as you want it (and they don't joke around) and strikes that perfect sweet/savory balance. I also love their curries and literally everything I have tried or stolen a bite of from a friend. Price can't be beat: soup or salad, three wontons, an entree, and all you can drink tea (it's Ooling, and it's fantastic) for under ten bucks! Get the egg rolls :) Weirdly enough, they have good cheesecake, too.

Best egg rolls I have ever had, and Szechuan chicken was amazing!! When they say it's gonna be spicy they mean it. Fantastic!! I will be a regular customer!!

My friend TC & I went to this outstanding Chinese Restaurant last night. I will be back next week for sure as for TC she has been going there for over 20 years !!!!!!! Tell em the ZERO sent ya !!!!!!!

I came for dinner and had the Red Thai curry (mild - because I'm a wimp) and it was actually more stir-fry style than anything. I did ask for veggies only (instead of having any meat) and they were very gracious about substituting as necessary. It's a quiet atmosphere on the inside with Chinese-style music playing; additionally while I was there, a good number of people called in for take-out orders so it seems pretty reliable. The food came out quick and the staff were very attentive. The menu is extensive and reasonably priced (mine was $11 for at least a 2-3 person portion), so I'd recommend this place for a quick bite of Chinese food.

Hello Kitty! After being cheerily greeted by the animated cat statue near the register, my wife and I were quickly seated by our server. I hadn't been here in a while and wondered what had changed. We started with a cup of their complementary hot tea. mmm. My wife ordered sesame chicken. I had one of their Thai dishes (spicy basil with chicken: These both came with some fried cream cheese wontons (3) and a small bowl of soup (hot sour for me), Both were good examples of the breed, The sesame chicken is still good. Its one of the things i remembered about this place. My chicken basil dish was nicely flavored. Although my fortune cookie turned out to be more of a proverb cookie I was quite pleased. This place is a great value for the price. Lunch for 2 - just $12.04. Seriously? I might have spent more next door at Taco Bell. Bye Kitty! (I won't be away for long)

I should have listened to J's suggestion and gone back to the Good Earth down the road. Sorry to say, this is no place we'll be rushing back to. Pros: friendly family, clean restaurant and condiment bottles not caked with goo. Cons: The food. Some of the most bland, lifeless, dull food I have eaten in awhile. The sweet and sour pork was really greasy and not that good. J's mock duck massaman curry also fell flat and was not spicy at all. The tiny bowl of won ton tasted strange, was warm and had no flavor. Tea had a strange after taste and smelled like bandaid fabric. Even the fortune cookies were blah and perhaps old? Thank goodness it was cheap, because I would have been really let down had it been more. Call Emeril, or any of the other one named cooking people to help out with some pizazz, bam or yummo creations because this place really needs it.

Order the Sesame Chicken. Just do it. Recently, I ate Willow Gate on a Monday for lunch, then Leann Chin's on Tuesday for lunch (not exactly sure why), and it gave me an even deeper appreciation for the authentic flavor and character of Willow Gate's Chinese food. I also consider Willow Gate to be a great value; you can walk out for about 10 bucks and enjoy vastly superior quality than a similarly-priced chain restaurant. The ownership and staff are always smiling, and the food arrives lightning fast. This place is a gem, and I will continue coming back as often as my waist line will allow.

I have gone to this place for a LONG time, and absolutely love it. I think the food is tasty, and they have good prices. The owner is a man that knows me from my multiple visits and always seems delighted to see me (I know I know, he sees a customer, but still). The ambiance isn't there, but it is a small family run restaurant that has been there for over a decade. Very nice people.

Is Willow Gate as good as it was a few years ago? Possibly not. However, it is still one of my go-to spots when I need a cheap-ish Chinese fix in the Roseville area. They have pretty good lunch specials and their fried rice is good. Their sesame chicken is great and the beef and broccoli is really good with some white rice. The egg rolls used to be better, but they're still enjoyable and better than many other smaller-family owned Chinese restaurants. The staff are always friendly and smiling - they seat your promptly and take your order quickly. The food is always out fast and hot. Definitely stop by and try this place out - it's not expensive, and the food is good.

This is the worst chinese food I have ever had in my life. Chicken wings tasted old and refried. The beef tasty spongy. My friends shrimp wasnt even cooked. Also the sweet and sour sauce tasted like soap. they have added pho to their menu. i was too scared to try it. I understand this place is cheap, but for edible food. I rather pay 10 bucks. Not sure why my co workers like this place. It is terrible.

I've tried a number of both Chinese and Thai items here and "meh" sums it up. Thai dishes have lots of celery and I don't know what's going on with the curry sauces. The General Tso's chicken, well it was chicken, but it was also forgettable. Fried rice was OK and of course, the fried wantons were the best part of the experience. Out in the burbs and want Chinese? Don't give in and just wait til you get back to civilization before indulging in your craving of Chinese food Americanized or not.

How to run a great restaurant into the ground 101. Have the father pass it down to the son, who gives it a whole new concept of combo chinese and thai. Then shrink the best eggrolls in the twin cities. I didn't stick around long enough to see what else they did. Total disgust.

This place rocked my socks. I was looking for something cheap and quick so my coworker suggested this place. It fit the bill nicely. The lunch entrees are only 5 bucks and they come with a choice of soup or salad, an entree, and 3 cream cheese wontons. My meal tasted great and it was just the right amount of food to leave me full but not put me into a food coma. The speed at which we were served was also fantastic. We were in and out in a hair under 30 minutes. I will definitely be coming back.

If you want decent Chinese food at a very reasonable price, we would recommend this restaurant. It's not fine dining by any stretch of the imagination however it's simple, tasty and affordable. The interior is pretty simple, the wait staff is friendly, and the service is pretty good. Not a WOW, in terms of the food but if you just don't feel like cooking but don't want to spend a lot of money or time, it's a great place. Also, not a bad spot to just order, pick up and go. Great spot for vegetarians too. (the 4 stars is based on value, not over all level of food).

Willow gate restaurant is owned by Daniel "Dan" Tan, he has been working at the restaurant since he was just a teenager. Recently Dan took over as owner from his dad. Dan and his staff have built a great business by not only having very good food but also creating a very welcoming environment. The food is of very good quality and has grown from Chinese cuisine to now include a variety of great Thai dishes. Dan is very proud of his accomplishments but does never sits still. There are always some new dishes to try and recently I had the "Fresh Mango with Chinese Vegetables and Chicken" which is a seasonal dish currently at the restaurant. The sweetness of the mango had a great balance to the spices as well as the protein. Not only does Willow Gate offer great food but they also have fun doing it. Recently they re-landscaped their lot to include a artistic interpretation of the Great wall of China. It is nice to have a family owned business here in Roseville. See you at Willow Gate soon.

I eat here on every one in a while for lunch since its close to where I work and I love Chinese food. Its very reasonably priced, with tip I usually spend about 7 bucks for lunch which is hard to find. I always order the Sesame chicken and get a salad. The salad is amazing I love the dressing. I'm sure you could go somewhere else and spend a lot more money to get more fancy food but this is definitely delicious and well worth it. The personal service is great, I go maybe once or twice a month and the server always remembers what I want.

I enjoy eating at Willow Gate II, especially since Dan Tan took over last year. It can be quite crowded and hectic at lunchtime although your selection is usually served quite quickly. Most luncheon choices run between five and six dollars after taxes. They are combination meals that include a choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup or salad and free tea and includes a cream cheese won ton or egg roll or egg foo yung (with small chicken pieces) along with your rice and main entrée. You have a choice of fried rice or steamed rice but if your dish is a meat dish it is fried rice with small chicken pieces mixed in by default or if a vegetarian dish it is steamed rice by default but you can request either type of rice. In the evening it is usually much less crowded and entrées run from about $7.95 up to $15 or so. More expensive entrées like roast duck are also available but you need to give advance notice for that. They also have reasonably priced beers, wines and sake.

My Mom and I just call this place "cheap Chinese", and we mean it in a good way. The lunch specials are so inexpensive, and tasty too. I'm partial to the chicken with vegetables. The servers are lightening fast, and always friendly. Just a solid, pleasant place up in the barren wasteland that is Roseville dining.

i wanted to give this place 4 stars, but they earned a 1 star de-merit....more on this,in a minute.willow gate 2,is a nice place.......chinese watercolor paintings on the wall,(that are for sale, too!),the decor is chinese enough,to suite me....there is lots of free parking....they even have a wine list!....something you don't often see,at a family-oriented,sit-down chinese place.the service, was fast&efficient....i had the lunch special, which was $4.75....a great price.....i started off, with the hot&sour soup.....it was hot and sour, very tasty, with just the right amount of spicyness.my main dish i ordered, was the chicken with broccoli....and here is why,i took off 1 star....the plating of the food, was terrible!......the plate the food came on,was way too small.....the chicken with broccoli, fried rice, cream cheese wontons, and dipping sauce, were all crowded together,in a haphazard jumble.......not only do i like my food to taste good,it has to look good too!.On the plus side, they do give you free refills,on soda pop!.this would be.a good place,to take the whole family, for a meal, without breaking the bank.In spite of my reservations,on the appearance of the food,i still give willow gate 2,a solid reccomendation!.....p.s.....they have table seating only.......no booths.cash or credit card.....they don't take personal checks.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
