A reliable favorite in Maple Grove or anywhere. Good food, decent prices, service that's usually good, and a variety of Mexican favorites.

New item was beef empanadas. AVOID! Costco frozen section has better microwave empanadas than Don Pablo!

  • Dave P.

Food took a long time, and when served every item was at room temperature. I paid for our drinks and appetizer and left. Will not return, except under a Sheriff's escort and in leg irons.

This was our daughters pick for lunch today. I had been here multiple times years ago and it was always ok, never great.. For my husband, two daughters and son it was a first. Pros: Well the place was clean which is always a plus. There was a wishing fountain in the middle of the restaurant right next to our table and that kept my two year old busy! The service was very pleasant. Cons: the food was pretty flavorless. Everyone agreed. My sons cheeseburger was served with the plastic wrapper still attached to the cheese.. Really?.. I mean I get people make mistakes but that's a first for me. (This was handled properly by the waitress and they comped the meal) We won't be back.. Over priced for way below average food. I would have been happier at Arbys across the street. Sorry.

My ex in college used to wait table at Don Pablo's. I remember when he came home, he used to bring all these one dollar bills from tips. One night when he came over, and my mom was there she thought I was dating a stripper. Because of that, this place always have a special place. I remember eating there from the time that there was no ipod. I remember liking their fiery bean dip. I still like it now. Though it may not be the ultimate Mexican restaurant, it's still an ok place for me. I usually come here once in a great while for old time's sake. Now, I do not think it's all that good compared to years past. I craved fish tacos today but it was just ok. Not bad, but not much flavor with the fried fish that I could taste the previously frozen state. I had to ask for avocado and jalapeño to spice things up. They have this corn cake for a side dish now. That was yummy. It could be treated as dessert even. The service was super pleasant-better than the food. I even tipped her extra dollar bills. Hehehe. She didn't even have to strip. Monday to Friday 3-7 PM they have happy hour...half price margarita and selected appetizers, my bean dip included.

The atmosphere is quite nice, and great happy hour specials. Good for families as well. This restaurant has been around forever. Food is delicious.

  • Jacob H.

Service is decent but there are numerous waiters/waitresses roaming around when you're in need of more chips or a refill of your soda. All in all the atmosphere is inviting and you will usually be seated right away as the location is never too busy.

Never again. No refills, app that we had a coupon for never came (forgot to put our order in) food took forever. Our waitress had the entire bar area to work, about 25 customers needless to say she couldn't keep up... ohh and they ran out of glasses so yet again no more refills or even a glass of water. Food was cold and so..so. I'm not they type to say anything I just don't go back... but I lost my mind, I found a manager and told him his ONE staff member working the bar needed help. When it was done we were billed for the app we never got. No comps, no sorrys, only "thanks for coming"

Perhaps I'm biased since I am the son of native Mexican parents. I know great mexican food when I taste it. I had dined at a Don Pablo's in Ft. Worth Texas about a year ago. The experience was so-so. I decided to give it another try today. Although, I ate my entire chicken enchilada entree since I was hungry, it was ok at best. The "New" Traditional Empanadas which I ordered as an appetizer is as traditional as the empanadas sold at a large grocery store's frozen section. Not what I expected. The ground beef filling in the bite size empanadas appeared and tasted like the "Devil's Meat" canned food item. The only item which met my expectation were the chips and salsa which are given to you once you are seated. I have a sneaky suspicion that all their items are frozen items (except for the chips) which can be purchased at the frozen section of larger grocery stores.

The worst mexican ffoods we have ever eaten. You can make frisbees out of tortillas. Dry chicken and steak. Very disappointed. We will never go back again.

The service here was great! We were greeted at the door, the waiter kept up with our drinks so they were never empty. The music isn't blaring like most don pablos. The food was tasty. Overall was an excellent experience. This review is based on my first impression. So also take that into consideration...

Last time we were here, the service was horrible. However, tex-mex was the only thing that the group of us could agree on so we gave it a try. We got there and were seated immediately. Our server seemed nice at first, but what we thought was attentiveness quickly became rushedness. It was almost as though he had a bet with someone else of how quickly he could be at the table. The large room, though filled with people was extremely cold. Now, I understand that everyone has "those nights" and those things could have been overlooked if the food was good. It was not. The food is not worth the caloric intake, particularly the portobello mushroom fajitas. The buttery mixture that it was grilled in over powered any false sense of nutrition that was advertised.

Excellent service. Meat portions could have been slightly more generous when ordering premium fajitas. Restaurant was clean and comfortable.

Food killer, service not good. Had a party with seven people, two adults orders were totally messed up and the child's corn dog came out 5 minutes after everyone else's food and was burnt to a crisp. Server was not busy and yet was not attentive at all and made a lot of little mistakes. The manager gave us free dessert, whcih was delicious, but a lot of our food was messed up. I ordered all you can eat fajitas, and they looked great, but the waitress forgot my tortillas so I got to stare at them for a while. they were done sizzling before I got to dish them up. Food tasted good when it all came, but service not good at all.

Hopefully, you are not expecting some kind of authentic Mexican dining experience. If you are, you're about to get a cold bucket of water in the face. The food is average as is the service. We've had a variety of dishes and all have been fine, but not spectacular. The servers are fine, but not great. The prices are pretty reasonable and in typical Mexican restaurant fashion, you get a lot of food for your money. The best thing about this restaurant is the Chocolate Volcano Cake. It is unbelievably good. My wife and I eat incredibly fast just to beat one another to the last bite.

For the past few years I wasn't a huge fan of Don Pablo's, and to be candid - I don't jump at the chance to dine there regularly. However, I feel obligated to share with the masses my luminous endorsement for their coronarita (see photo). My wife and I decided to stop in to our local Don Pablo's on a whim a few weeks ago after not dining there for a few years. Immediately upon entry, I noticed a very large sign that read "coronaritas". My jaw dropped as I observed a portrait of a large margarita on the rocks with an open bottle of corona beer secured upside down square in the middle of said margarita - hence the term "coronarita". At that point I'm sure I had a glazed look on my face as I muttered something to the effect of an "ooohhh wow" - but what I was trying to express was "I must have this immediately!" We enjoyed our meal as my sweetheart enjoyed her "fruitarita" (also tasty) and I marveled at the magical concoction we had discovered that day. Their menu is decent, but for me it was far surpassed by my introduction to the simple brilliance that is the coronarita. The Don Pablo's menu has never given my wife and I the inspiration to feel as though we could only find a certain dish at their restaurants, but we'll return for coronaritas . . . . until I start making them at home. If you like beer, and you like margaritas - I must encourage you to visit your local Don Pablo's and enjoy as many of these coronaritas as their friendly bartenders will serve you.

We enjoyed our recent meal, I would say it's above average but not top-notch. It was much better than El Rodeo! We eat mexican often and are new to the area and still searching for the best mexican restaurant. We would return to Don Pablo's, but if we find that top-notch margarita we'll be loyal to it! The service was OK, although our server didn't seem to have much of a sense of humor. He was very to-the-point and didn't seem to want to converse much. These days when we eat out we really like to be satisfied for the money we spend. I would say that most people would probably be satisfied with this restaurant.

So we tried to go to dinner at a real Mexican restaurant, but it was unfortunately closed. Hence dinner here. It was the pretty typical americanized fake mexican food with too much cheese and not enough real flavor. Nothing was bad, but nothing was remarkable in any way. It was relatively cheap and the food did come out fast. The margarita I had was pretty good.

  • David S.

The service was good. That means a lot to me. The key to good Tex-Mex is mesquite BBQ. They use the word mesquite a lot on their menu but I couldn't taste any mesquite flavor in the ribs or other things that I ate. The food is made for the typical Midwestern taste buds so should please most Midwesterners that have never sampled the real thing!

  • Jessica E.

It's your standard Tex-Mex restaurant. I feel as though it you like tex-mex, you'll like Don Pablo's. If you're looking for truly authentic Mexican dishes, you're going to want to go somewhere else. It's pretty much always busy for dinner - a sign of good food (and that you're in Maple Grove) - and I've never been disappointed, but I've also never been blown away. Hit up some fajitas and a margarita, get your free chips and salsa, and you'll leave satisfied.

We went for a Wine and Canvas event. I got "skinny enchiladas" and they were skinny - nothing was in the shells! Literally, just rolled up corn tortillas and sauce on outside. How do you forget to fill with chicken/cheese? The service was so bad that I couldn't even get a chance to complain before our event started. The prices are high, the food is so incredibly non-Mexican, it makes me sick calling it a "Mexican Kitchen." The drink was strong, but not cheap enough for me to be impressed. The only saving grace? The awesome event we were at. We had a different server in the back room who was attentive and although she forgot what I ordered, and brought the wrong order to another woman, she was dealing with 20 people and I thought she did a great job.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
