Decor was nice, food ran the gamut from very good to just average. Service was just fair. Best dish of the entrees we had was the roast chicken. Worst was a petite filet that came well done and not the medium we had asked for. Very unappealing presentation. Service wasn't great considering the price. They were slow to clear our appetizer plates and left glasses behind.

Had lunch here with my parents and kids a few weeks back. Enjoyed the food and the service was very good. Definitely worth the drive if you want a bit of a nicer and more upscale meal. The decor is wonderful!

Surprisingly high end food. We tasted the walleye, scallops, Szechwan beans and it was all excellent. Loved the supper club decor and piano man. Really nice atmosphere, food and service without feeling stuffy. Kids menu too!

Went here for my mothers 50th birthday and it was one of the best meals we have ever had. I was visiting from Los Angeles and I was a little skeptical about ordering scallops so my boyfriend who is braver then I ordered them and by god were they the best scallops I have ever tasted. Cooked perfectly melted right in your mouth seasoned just the right amount. I had the filet which was just as perfectly cooked I actually ate the whole thing. Service was amazing and I wish we had one back home. If you are looking for a nice night out or even if it is nice out and want to sit out in their outside patio I highly highly recommend.

This is a destination every time I come up north. I was really looking forward to some walleye and mashed potatoes. But the lunch menu had been changed to only sandwiches and salad. I had the walleye Cobb salad and the avocado was not ripe at all and the bacon was a soggy clump. The view and interior were gorgeous as always. I can understand needing to limit the menu due to food costs. It was disappointing because it used to be one of the only places to get a formal meal.

Gorgeous outdoor patio overlooking Gull Lake. I will be back here my next visit to Brainerd. Servers were super friendly too.

Great start to summer at Bar Harbor. Beautifully designed interior and fabulous food. Outdoor bar and patio opening soon. Fun to see all the fishing boats out despite the cold evening.

This place gets four stars, if someone else is paying. :) I recently dined at the new Bar Harbor Supper Club for my boyfriend's birthday, along with his parents. We've eaten here before, even stopped at the outdoor bar for a drink off the boat. The new remodel is gorgeous. It reminds me of a Tommy Bahama store or restaurant you'd find in Florida. The outdoor space was also redone beautifully, with new docks, chairs, and lawn area. Bar Harbor is also known, for some reason, for attracting the drivers of the old, beautiful Chris Craft boats, which is great "people watching" as well. Now the dining experience- this was a Saturday night, and I was prepared for a good long dinner event. The place was crowded, and apparently reservations are a must now for dinner, so I am glad we had them. We started with drinks- beer for us, thanks. They had a great tap selection, including some of the newer and better local Brainerd beers. Our waitress was attentive and patient with the parents, but had a few too many tables to tend to- everything took FOREVER to arrive. No matter- we were in this for the night. Both the BF's mom and I tried to order the chicken- but they were out?!? Maybe it's not understanding your demand well, but how do you run out of chicken? I tried the small sirloin instead- there was plenty of food for me! (salad, potatoes, bread, broccolini, and steak) The steak was done pretty much how I liked it, and came out warm and ready to eat. The rest of the family had broiled walleye, garlic shrimp, and the steak sandwich. My small bites of everything tasted good- although the shrimp seemed a little overdone, and the au gratin got cold pretty quickly. Top it all off with a free birthday brownie sundae, and it was a good night! Tip: On the weekend nights, there's a piano man in the bar area now. That was pleasant until some of the neighborhood cougars started their sing-along as the night went on. Maybe ask for the dining room if you'll be here a little later and want to avoid the cackles.

I've been visiting Gull Lake and Bar Harbor for 17 years. In the past, it was one of our favorite spots for happy hour, casual lunches on the patio or dinner and dancing inside (our kids LOVED the dance floor). The newly revamped restaurant has completely changed. The outdoor menu is overpriced and the food is mediocre. The waitstaff seems totally unprepared to deal with busy afternoons and evenings on the patio which should be no surprise to them on beautiful Minnesota summer nights. In one instance, we waited over an hour for our food and the waiter came up with some story that our order must have been set to the end of the pile...he later added he "might" have forgotten to put our order in. FYI, we were a large party, but definitely NOT the only large on on the patio. I will say, however, the fire pit is a lovely addition! The inside remodel is beautiful, but the feel is stuffy and over-dressed. Don't get me wrong, I definitely enjoy a trendy, upscale restaurant in the Twin Cities, but it just doesn't seem to fit here. Again, the prices compared to the quality of the food just don't match up.

I loved Bar Harbor before, but even more so now. The remodel is absolutely beautiful! Located in Nisswa, off of Lake Shore, on Gull Lake, the new Bar Harbor offers stunning views of the lake, a fun casual, yet upscale atmosphere, & a wonderful new menu. The space is beautifully adorned in dark wood, with classic chandeliers, a large bar, & giant windows. I especially enjoyed the wood fan lines that are continuously swinging back & forth. The wine locker room is beautifully done in the dark wood in a circular room. Outside, the patio provides a large stone fire pit with a circle of seating. Just lovely. The menu has changed as well, consisting of starters, salads, soups, steak, seafood, pastas, & dessert. On this particular occasion, we tried the Szechuan green beans, which we just alright. On to a well-executed caesar salad with fresh romaine, anchovies, parmesan, & just the right amount of dressing. Our main dishes consisted of the broiled walleye, a double Cajun pork chop, & an 8oz. sirloin. The complements consisted of augratins, wild rice, & creamed spinach. Everything was fantastic, but the pork chop & creamed spinach were the all around favorites. The pork chop was probably the best I have ever experienced @ a dining establishment. Cooked to perfection & well-seasoned. Yum! Dessert consisted of tiramisu & coffee. Both of these were good. Our server was efficient, pleasant, & helpful. We had a great experience @ the new Bar Harbor & can't wait to visit again!

Gluten-free nightmare! We got word that Bar Harbor was finally reopened after an extensive remodel and decided to go there for dinner after a day on the boat. The two of us and an 8 year-old sat on the outdoor patio which has a completely different menu then inside and, according to our server, even has a different kitchen. The menu was basically fried baskets and sandwiches/burgers. I have an allergy to gluten and cannot eat the bun. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich but asked to have no bun and some extra lettuce (not a problem anywhere else I have gone). The server then informed me that the kitchen is to busy to do such an outlandish request but she will go ask anyway. When she came back, she said that she put the order in but the kitchen is backed up by 40 min so we will just have to wait and see if they can do it. I told her that we have an 8 year old with us and cannot wait 40 min to just cross our fingers and hope it is right, so please cancel our order and we will be on our way. She looked at me and said, "Ha. Well, they won't care!" There was a manager standing right there who heard the whole thing and just looked the other way. Not an appropriate way for the manager, server, or kitchen to handle the situation. I will not be back, as I cannot trust that this place cares enough not make me sick!

Arrived Saturday eve January 17, 2015 @ 6:30PM with reservations in hand. Looking forward to a relaxing quiet dinner for two within the dining room area of the restaurant. Was escorted to the bar area and offered a table right next to the pull tab station. Being " Minnesota Nice" we failed to object to the location...our fault. Was then introduced to a new waiter, provided drink service within 5 minutes ( not bad ). Checked on us twice, ( not bad again ), ordered French Onion soup as an appetizer, was served clam chowder instead. Promptly explained the error and was replaced with the correct soup within 10 minutes ( also not too bad ). Finally placed our food order 15 minutes later then lost site of our waiter. 30 minutes went past, no food, saw waiter and attempted to make contact.....30 more minutes later....still no food....still no waiter....It's now 8:15 on the clock...been at the restaurant 1 hour 45 minutes and decided to leave without being served. Placed $200.00 cash on the table to cover the meal we never received and left the restaurant. On a lighter note we've enjoyed the hospitality of Bar Harbor for over 20 years now. As weekend Lake Home owners/visitors right around the corner on Gull Lake, Bar Harbor has always been our go to place with friends and family. We will be back after a while, but for now we'll continue to enjoy the wonderful burgers and friendly family service of Cowboy's down the block or even the tasty pizza at Zorba's across the way. A special thanks to "Jeri" our wonderful hostess and friend for checking in on us a few days later. We really miss Steve and Deanna and the old gang from Bar Harbor years gone by. John has done a great job on the remodel by the way. Really like the terrace. Sorry for the long rant, but Saturday's experience was really disappointing.

Great restaurant, excellent service! The food was great. Our server was very knowledgable about the menu/food, and friendly!!! everyone was so nice from the hostess to the bar tenders they all went out of their way to say hi and make sure we were taken care of! So glad we stopped, we will definitely be back!

Overpriced, poor service, so-so food, but a terrific building in a perfect location. Twenty years of family tradition dictates we visit each July 4th vacation. The time with family is what matters most.

It's back and better than ever. The burgers are awesome. The scallops with coconut risotto are rich and delectable. The tuna on the Nisswa salad could be a bit higher in quality, but the real star is the crabcake app. Love the creative twists the chef is putting to this menu.

I suspect that the ratings for Bar Harbor differ a bit if you live in the area versus from those that vacation and enjoy dinner here as part of a special outing. We enjoyed it very much. Great ambiance and our service (which seems to be a complaint from many reviewers) was very good. Drinks were good! Well made - not too strong...but not too weak and everyone enjoyed them. The appetizers were tasty - calamari and walleye fingers - breaded and deep fried and acceptable but nothing to rave over. Dinner however was spectacular! We went with a group of 9 - everyone ordered a bit differently. I had a rib eye (they have it "Cajun style" on the menu, but I ordered it with the brandy-peppercorn demi-glaze) - perhaps one of the best prepared and tastiest steaks I've had in years. Several in the group have walleye. My partner had a pasta with chicken and Gorgonzola. A couple in the party had sandwiches. Everyone was happy with the food - not a single complaint from anyone around the table. Prices were high...but again, we were on vacation and it was special occasion and with the quality of the food that we ate, it seems worth the price. I would return - and hope too!

Good food, nice seating areas good for groups and families. On the pricy side $244.04 for a family of (6); two adults (4) kids ages 13-8 to put things into perspective .

Nice place, nice atmosphere, good food. I'm not a local, so I don't know what their competition is like as I was treated to lunch here by relatives when I was in town for a family reunion. I was impressed with the decor and the view of the lake was very nice. I had the walleye sandwich (which quickly become a favorite while I was in Minnesota) and wasn't disappointed.

Went to Bar Harbor on the Fourth of July for dinner and drinks with my family. The patio offers a great view of the lake and you can drive your boat to the restaurant and dock while you eat. The patio only offers "basket food," which is mostly fried food and burgers. We ate dinner in the dining room. The menu mostly features steaks and seafood. On Sundays they have a prime ribe special for $16. I had the walley broiled almandine. It was just OK. It tasted a little fishy and lacked flavor. The chicken stuffed with cheese and prosciutto was probably my favorite dish. In summary, this a great place to go for a view of the lake, the prices are reasonable and the food is average.

Sunday afternoon, been waiting 40 minutes and still no food and no apologies for the wait. Fried shrimp smelled fishy. Heard a server tell a large party the cooks weren't used to dealing with large parties!

The new decor is major improvement. Has look and feel of Chicago steakhouse down to waitstaff in white dress shirts and ties. New bar allows for view of lake and has much more bar space. Service was speedy but wait staff seemed to still be learning the ropes.

This is a cut above the normal lakes area dining, certainly in decor and the lakeside setting. And the prices reflect that. Food was good but not outstanding. My sirloin steak sandwich was good, although the house signature side salad with cheddar cheese dressing was excellent. Other orders were also good. The service was excellent EXCEPT - two steak sandwiches (one med rare, one med well) went to the wrong people; one asked for a non dairy suggestion, got risotto cooked in cream sauce. Staff and management very apologetic and didn't charge for the risotto (duh), but still that should not happen.

The food here was alright, although, for the price, I was expecting much better. You can get away with those prices if you are downtown Minneapolis, but up here in the woods, if you are charging me 20-some dollars for a 6 oz. sirloin, it better take me home after, let me play the role of Captain Steubing and make me beg to be boarded. I do understand that there are a lot of wealthy people that live in the area or vacation up here, but I wish that I could have filed this under the category of a special dining experience. I found that, overall, the fish dishes were very much on point. The Pistachio Crusted Walleye was a very good flavor profile and the Salmon was cooked perfectly. The surf and turf with the steak and shrimp was also on par with good, but not great food. When it came to the drinks, that is where our experience went south. The waitress clearly did not understand that a Summit was a brewery and not just a specific beer. She brought me the wrong beer twice and charged me for it both times. When I asked her to fix the problem, she was very gracious and apologetic and quick to remedy the situation. What the situation highlighted was a lack of training on the part of management. As someone who routinely goes to taprooms and craft beer bars, I have come to expect a high level of service when it comes to craft beer. If you are going to just slap on a bunch of lines of craft beer, but not educate your staff about what beers you have on tap and what food they would pair well with, I would prefer you just stick to flavorless domestic beers which you cannot screw up. I don't know if I need to come back here because I can find better food for the price and a more knowledgeable beer staff elsewhere in this area.

I grew up going to bar harbor and wow has this place changed for the better. We had the clam chowder and the fish and chips and wow it was truly excellent. I remember from the earlier days with the seventies decor and pull tabs but it really needed a face lift and the new owner has done a great job. I will definitely be back.

A very fine restaurant that would do well in the city and is a gem out in lake country. The service was excellent, we had a window table overlooking the lake, it was very busy even on a weeknight, walk-ins were being told there would be a half-hour wait at 6:30. I had clam chowder and the seared scallops over risotto, both very tasty. My wife had the walleye dinner which she said was outstanding. A decent wine list. I had a grasshopper for dessert that was very good. [A grasshopper walks into a bar. The bartender says, "Hey, we have a drink named after you!" The grasshopper replies, "You have a drink called an Irving?" Yuk yuk.] Only two gripes and the reason for 4 stars: The dinners come with a salad. I'm not a big salad fan so I asked to sub a cup of soup, fully expecting to be told there would be an upcharge of $3-$4, but instead I was told "there are no substitutions" and if I wanted soup I would have to pay $7 for a bowl. (Nothing special about the salad.) This is not consistent with the finer restaurant that this place is trying to be. Second, the prices are very high for the portion sizes. For $27 I got three medium sized scallops served over risotto that all fit in a bowl about five to six inches in diameter. Don't get me wrong, the scallops were delicious and I was not looking for the American huge pile of food, and I was satisfied, but I felt the price was too high.

Went here with my girlfriends last Saturday night and had the worst service ever. We waited in the bar area for at least 20 minutes and were never approached by a server. Then we were seated at our table at 9:15, said we wanted water and had to ask for it twice. We also asked for bread and after asking twice again (as many staff people passed by our table) I had to ask the manager for it. The food was mediocre at best. The strawberry spinach salad had way too many cherry tomatoes and had feta on it with a sweet dressing; just a really bad combination. The burger was ok, and the walleye was fine. They really need to work on their food and service at this place because it should match the high end decor. I would be happier just sitting on the patio, and next time I will if I go back. I miss the old Bar Harbor of the past. It was a classic and the food and service were great. I noticed the owner sitting at the booth in the bar and he was smiling and happy, getting fantastic service. He needs to think about some improvements for Bar Harbor because we were all very disappointed with the experience.

We stopped in having had great food 3 years ago. Heard new owners took over and redecorated. We were not disappointed. The ambiance was wonderful, the wait staff friendly and helpful and the food was phenomenal. I had the filet mignon, can you say melt in your mouth delicious. Friend had the Chop Salad and it was beautifully presented and delicious. My daughter had the Salmon and said it was phenomenal as well. The drinks were good too. You won't be disappointed, this is a must try restaurant
