Food was good. Steaks and prime rib are hard to beat. I wouldn't drive from MSP but certainly worth going to if you live in the area. Certainly is old school. I was shocked at how many people were in the building. Actually I was shocked at how large the building was for the size of the town. The town was charming. I got the feeling that people came from all over the area on Saturday night. I will go back.

So, I grew up in kasson and The Hubble House was always considered a place for special occasions. My family and I decided to go for a long over due family lunch while I was visiting home from Colorado. In 5/31 we went at about 12:30, we all had separate entrées but shared an onion ring appetizer. I actually sent my food (BBQ ribs and chicken strips) back and asked them to take it off our bill because they tasted bad and had a odd texture. I had an upset stomach and didn't eat anything else for the rest of the evening. By midnight myself and my mother were both up vomiting and one of my two brothers started throwing up at 3 am, my second brother made it until the next morning but he also started throwing up eventually. We've all had horrible diarrhea and this knocked out the ENTIRE family for the day. While it could have been a lot worse (my 1 year old son spit his two tiny bites of onion ring out) this was the most horrible experience. I remember when The Hubble was a special place for celebration. Not anymore. The food is bland, tasteless and apparently unclean. Unfortunately, they are closed on Mondays so we have to wait until tomorrow but I will be filing a complaint with food safety. It's not okay that our entire family is sick and thus is my vacation time. Lovely. We will NEVER stop foot in this restaurant again. It's a ghost of the former buisness and WAY over priced for the food quality.

What a beautiul spot, off the beaten path. The ambiance is worth the visit. The dining room is full of eye candy for the lover of antiques, historical artifacts. I ordered the New York Strip and it was cooked to perfection. The service was just okay but maybe the server was just having an off day. I will definitely go back to enjoy a great meal and to learn more about the history of this landmark.

My husband and I took some family members there while they were in town on a visit. The parking lot was full so I set my expectations high. Upon walking in, you could see the history of the place. The ambiance was a little dark but fine. I had a hard time choosing what to order because everything sounded delicious. The bread that they brought out was nothing to write home about and the garlic bread that they are known for was really salty...too salty to eat more than one piece. I ordered broiled scallops with broccoli and a salad. The salad was a chopped salad which makes it harder to eat because the pieces are so small and the salad was wet. The scallops were dumped on the plate, tasteless, overcooked and were sitting in water. The only color looked like paprika shook on top. Broccoli was overcooked too. My husband had an overcooked, tasteless, and tough steak too. This was our first time visiting and for the price of what we payed for subpar food, it will probably be our last time. I'm guessing it was packed because it is the only eating establishment in town.

Maybe we just had a bad night but this place was awful. The waitress was boring and not helpful at all. We told her it was our first time eating there yet she repeatedly seemed annoyed when we asked for menu options (such as what kind of salad dressings do you have, what are my choices of potatoes, what comes with this, etc). I ordered the rib and stuffed shrimp special but the waitress had to be told that it was the night's special. It was so-so. The ribs were fatty and not the fall off the bone tender that you'd expect. The crab stuffed shrimp were ok, but tasted like they had been previously frozen. They just didn't seem house made, which is what I expected. Hubby ordered NY strip which was awful. No seasoning, tough to chew, a waste of meat. The baked potato was gross. Again, zero seasoning, didn't come with anything on it (no butter or sour cream, nor was any offered at any time), it was just plain. Also seemed old, the skin was tough and dried out as if they baked a big pan of them earlier in the day then left them sit around until served. Daughter had a kids menu hamburger which was ok, nothing special except over done. Our waitress wasn't really on top of things to begin with, no up selling or suggestions, didn't offer to bring anything after the food was served. At one point she walked up as I was complaining to the Hubs about how lame his steak was and I think that's when she decided to check out completely. No more water refills or any attention at all except to bring the check. Overpriced for what you are getting and then it's poorly prepared and subpar quality. I'm not going to argue about the place being popular and all. Yes, the parking lot was packed on a Friday night, although I think at that time it's the only restaurant open in Mantorville, and yes, they've been in business for many many years. I have theories about that but I digress. Point is we will never eat there again and would not recommend to anyone.

If you want to get out of Rochester and find a nice "stage coach inn" kind of place, this is a fine choice. Quaint town location and building. Friendly service. But the food is mediocre. Fish is tasteless. Chicken Alfredo had little sauce and likewise tasteless. At least the bread was warm and can fill you up.

I got the fancy king salmon blackened, it tasted great and was a very friendly and welcoming environment with a great deal of history behind it. I would definitely dine here again!

We grudgingly had to move to MN from our beloved TN a couple years ago. When we talk about going back to the south somedays we count on one hand things we'll miss here in MN. One of those is Hubbell House. The history alone is so much fun to uncover. A registry of the restaurant/hotel patrons dating back to the 1800's brags Ulysses S. Grant, The Mayo brothers, Mickey Mantle, among many others who have visited. It's such a quiet and quaint place. The steaks are very good. The sides are wonderful, particularly the western potatoes. If you like Bloody Mary's they make a great one-it's actually an appetizer complete with a pickle, cheese, and olive. Yum! The best server there is Val! Ask for her and you'll be well taken care of.

Always enjoyable. Historical and feels like dinning at grandma's, in a good way. People like the onion rings appetizer and free garlic bread. Steaks are great 90% of the time. Odd cuts do happen. (Is that normal for all steak places?). Food served in several courses and lots of choices. Always leave full. Cocktails can arrive with unexpected mixes so speak up and they will correct it. Friendly staff.

This place continues to please! The ambiance is historical, pleasant and a very relaxing atmosphere, on the elegant side! Wonderful service and tasty food complete The experience. We were here for lunch and Contrary to yelps posted hours for the day, I called and they were open for lunch! So here we are just finished dessert- a gigantic piece of bread pudding with homemade caramel sauce! Ordered another to take home . Steak was very good too! Don't miss this place if you are in SW Minnesota!

This is a gem of a restaurant. It has a long history of distinguished guests going back to the Cival War. I enjoyed a great dinner with family af few weeks ago. I highly recommend the Walleye. Enjoy!

A cute traditional supper club makes for a very unique dining experience where service trumps trendy. Its definitely a hike from the cities, but has become a memorable family tradition. The cheese curds are hard to pass up, and the steaks here are great. The bar serves quality drinks, and the employees are all extremely friendly

Cute, historic atmosphere. Worth going to just for the environment, but the food is only so-so, and expect to wait. I've visited for work events and personal. Even though we gave the establishment a month's notice about our reservation, we still waited to be seated, and then waited almost half an hour before we were offered beverages. Waited another twenty minutes after drinks arrived to order food, and then took another forty minutes for the food to arrive. Staff claimed it was because we didn't give them enough notice. Returned a few weeks later with a smaller group and still ended up taking a two hour lunch even though it was after the noon rush.

This is a nice, friendly place that fits in well with the dining ethic around here, viz., inconsistency. Dishes can be great or just mediocre or worse. Be careful when ordering, especially when they're busy. Take your time, go with something simple that they're not likely to screw up, and avoid altogether items that require subtle timing. This approach, like the prevent defense in football, doesn't always work but you're just trying to give yourself better odds and a fighting chance. Never order the French fries b/c they're always underdone, go with a baked potato or au gratin. Bottom line, what they do well (steaks) they generally do very well, but the rest is a bit of a crap shoot.

Excellent as always. The lunch beef dip sandwich is tasty, tender, and the Parmesan bun is soft and delicious.

I had dinner at the Hubbell house Halloween night I was surprised of the size of this restaurant for the size of this town. I had steak & lobster it was excellent I would have given a 5 star but salad was chopped up too fine & not much but iceberg lettuce. Wife had same but she ordered Brussel sprouts they were over cooked. Very friendly waitress.

Great ambiance and rustic touch. The food was good but it had no special flavor. If i were able, I would give it a 3.5 stars.

Great place! Every time we go we request our favorite and most friendly waitress, Victoria. I always get a nice steak. They always prepare it perfectly, and if they don't, they'll replace it for free. You have to try the cowboy potatoes for your side. And the French Silk dessert is great too. You've really got to try it, even Ulysses S. Grant signed the guest book!

Located in historic Mantorville Minnesota, about halfway between Rochester and Owatonna, the Hubbell House is an old school supper club serving hearty meat and potatoes meals. The food isn't fancy, it's just stick to your bones good. I would recommend this place for a quick summer weekend get away. There are a couple cool antique shops and an old fashioned chocolate shop in town, and it's just over an hour south of the Twin Cities. The interior of the restaurant reminded me somewhat of the old Forepaugh's in Irving Park. There are several dining rooms, and several long antique dining tables perfect for large groups. I had the the walleye with wild rice and it was delicious. It was a substantial fillet of fish that left me good and full. It comes with a side, I got the baked potato and your choice of salad, soup or fresh fruit. The salad was one of the more cool crisp and refreshing salads I've had. Our group shared a couple orders of onion rings before the meal arrived. They were greasy, but crisp, all around great. They also bring fluffy baked bread and garlic buttered toasted bread to the table before the food arrives. Both were excellent, I was honestly full from the salad, bread and appetizer alone.

We enjoyed a beautiful meal at the Hubbell House last night. Some reviews frightened us as they said it was overpriced for what you got. I think they were totally wrong. My husband got steak and shrimp. By Chicago suburb standards, it was not overpriced, the steak was fabulous and he couldn't finish his meal. The ambience with antiques and history behind its origin was so interesting. The cocktails and wine were also fine. It is a little drive from the "Mayo" area, but worth at least one trip.

The food was good, but not exceptional, the service was OK. we went for lunch late to be out of the rush. When we arrived ( about 1:00) it was nearly empty.. After waiting nearly a 1/2 an hour the waitress came and said the food would arrive momentarily, as the were backed up in the kitchen. We were very disappointed, after hearing so much about the the place, I guess they live on History and ambiance.

Definitely worth the short drive from Rochester. Cannot go wrong with the menu. Steaks are great. Seafood is great. Service is excellent.

Historic Hubbell House. Always fun to visit. Food is always great. Service is wonderful. I had a steak, my husband and son had the steak special and we had 2 other kids menus. Bill ran about $100 for the 5 of us including one appetizer and a drink from the bar. We had about 3 people on the way put thank us for coming. We will be back again.

The Hubbell House has been a favorite of my family for years. Located in an historic building in quaint Mantorville, the decor and atmosphere is something out of the late 19th century. The food is terrific, especially the prime rib, BBQ ribs, and seafood combination dinner. Don't miss the garlic toast, which could be a meal in itself. Prices are reasonable and most of the time you'll end up with leftovers to take home. The wait staff and owner are friendly, efficient, and very professional. The only thing that would make this restaurant better is a wider selection of beers on tap.

Way overpriced for the amount and quality of food you get. Service slow, had to flag down waitress to get our order taken. Ribs were ok, but got very few, walleye had no flavor at all. Gave them a chance after a 12 year absence. It may be that long before they get another chance.

I see ranking of locations in towns I've never heard of many time, so I figured it was my turn. The Hubble House is an outstanding establishment from many viewpoints. It is approx. 1 1/2 hours South of downtown Minneapolis and 20 minutes West of downtown Rochester. Mantorville is a tiny town of only 1,000 which tells you quite obviously people come from all over since they have been in business for over 150 years. I love history and the fact that it has been there since 1854 and some of the names that have eaten there are Ulysses S. Grant, Micky Mantle, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dr. William J. Mayo and Dr. Charles H. Mayo (establishers with their father of Mayo Clinic), and many more let's you know how wonderful this place is. You get to enjoy the fine dining in a Civil War era atmosphere. I have had their BBQ Rib many times and they are certainly "fall of the bone" ribs with an excellent BBQ Sauce. I once ordered their T-Bone steak and it covered the plate! It was the best steak I remember ever having and it was enough for 2 more meals after that night! With my favorite meal being the Shrimp and Steak Combo. Service here has always been wonderful and upbeat. You will see people dressed up in business suits or you will see jeans or even the local softball teams in their uniforms as again this is a small town were anyone is welcome. I am just glad I am only in Minnesota visiting family a couple times a year because I would be going here so much that the cost of gas would bankrupt me!

This formerly iconic restaurant is a pathetic remnant living parasitically off its glorious past. The food is barely edible--the once superb steaks now tough and overcooked, the so-called lamb chops seem literally to be mutton dressed up as lamb, and even the pies are dreadful--and the service is indifferent to the point that one has to wonder what management could be thinking. They've surely noticed the deficiencies since the market clearly has: the restaurant was half-empty on a Friday night--a far cry from the old days when a two-hour wait was the norm. The only saving grace is the tap beer--six or so pretty good beers (tho they no longer served what looked like the most promising, Firebrick).

Lots of history here. This place has been around since 1852 and has served many famous faces. The walleye is awesome. Highly recommend if you are in Mantorville.
