My boyfriend and I stopped here on the way back to the cities from our camping trip. I was getting sleepy so he looked up "coffee" on Google Maps and he picked this place. I am really glad we decided to stop here! Thank you Google Maps for guiding us to this wonderful place. It's located on the corner of a very old building, but it's a "cool" old. They have several spots right on the side so it was really convenient to find parking. We walked in and it was pretty big for a coffee shop (compared to ones I've been to at least) and the atmosphere is fantastic! Very clean, cozy, and overall just very welcoming. We headed towards the back where the barista/cashier was and they were very friendly. There was a bit of wait before we could order as I think we just happened to get there during a busier time, but there were plenty of things to look at (art, posters, etc.) to help keep us occupied until it was our turn to order. We explored the food menu which sounded delicious, but didn't end up ordering any food since we just wanted to stop by and get something to keep us awake on our drive. When it was finally our turn (I'd guess approx. 7 minutes later), the cashier immediately apologized for the wait and we ordered the Mayan Sun. As you would imagine, it took a bit for our drink to come up but when it did, the barista was incredibly apologetic for the wait. But oh boy... It was delicious! My boyfriend isn't huge on coffee but he was a huge fan of this. He couldn't stop saying how good it was on the way back. I've never felt so happy after leaving a coffee shop. This is a real gem in Mankato and it's unfortunate I can't come here all the time. Next time I'm in town, I'll definitely make a stop here. Unless you're a bitter and overall horrible person, there's no way you wouldn't like it here. Great environment, great service, and great coffee! I highly recommend!

Went here this past weekend and I picked up some food & I ate the Egg Salad; for the life of me don't remember what they called it but OMG I want to eat it every day!!!! I might have to see if I can get the recipe from them before I move out of state. We love everyone at the Hag!

This is my favorite place to have coffee in Mankato. The service is great, everyone is always friendly. It's just an overall nice atmosphere. I also love all the cool art they have. Oh and of course, the coffee and food is delicious. I LOVE THE HAG.

I love the atmosphere at the Coffee Hag. Live music, casual seating, and an awesome selection of some really great coffee. I ordered the red pepper hummus and really enjoyed it. As with most smaller, unique, coffee shops things were a little pricey but worth it. I would definitely go back.

Great coffee, great food, and great atmosphere. The Hag is like a little Mecca for art and culture in a white washed town. It's a fantastic locally owned business that I recommend whole heartedly.

Coffee hag was a hilarious stop. My brother lives in the area and told me he had never been here because he could not find it. It is hard to find. I was lucky that the ghost sign of the photography studio caught my eye and I spotted it. It was a shivering cold day in Mankato and we wanted so local coffee and pastry. We walked in and it was hipster-ific. The girl working obviously hated the new guy on the register. I got the bees knees and my husband got an Americano. I also tried the rhubarb muffin. We sat down and our drinks didn't come out for a long time. We were not bothered because it was freezing and we were killing time but the other regulars were pissed. It was all that new guys fault. When our drinks did come my husbands was on ice. LOL! It was hilarious considering how cold it was outside. We didn't complain. It was still good. The decor in here is really cool. I like how the ceiling is peeling too. There is a stage for shows and a record player. It was fun to people watch the Mankato hipsters. 300th review!

Generally I have found the people there to be really friendly and coffee and treats have always been great! The last two times I have had a cranky, unfriendly barista so I stopped going. Ruined the whole experience for me so went back to Starbucks. It can take awhile to get your drinks, but generally worth the wait as they are good! My fav was the Bees Knees.

This place is always a pleasure. The Drinks are delicious. Their practices are Ethically sound. It Supports local business, supports organic foods, and supports social equality. There needs to be more places like it!

I sought this out after reading up on yelp, and with a blinding handover in Mankato I was not sure where to go. It was a shirt stroll from downtown, and easy to pick the most hipster place in town, if that's your style. Coffee was good without being exceptional, but the ambience was just right, great tsatskas scattered around the place, friendly service, and good vibes. The menu was a bit lacking, but I was there for the coffee in any case.

All of the to-go containers are compostable! They are now offering vegan baked goods at least once per week and the food is all homemade with vegetarian and vegan options. They are welcoming to all people and support the community in many ways!

This little shop is the closest non-chain coffee shop to where my grandmother lives in North Mankato. I stumbled upon it quite by accident when out with her one weekend and what a happy surprise that turned out to be. Having traveled to Mankato several times a year for the entirety of my life, I never felt the city had places with that cool factor I was looking for... until the Coffee Hag. What can I say? I love a good hipster coffee shop. I've been here several times for my coffee fix now. Usually I'm going for something classic - an americano, iced latte, etc. I'm not one for sweet beverages, so haven't tried the bee's knees or some of the other specialty things others have mentioned. The drinks come out quickly and have always been made to my satisfaction, but I've usually been the only person at the counter during an off time of day. Their baked goods case makes my mouth water and I finally split an amazing chocolate cookie the last time I was in. Overall, I really like their focus on organic and fair trade goods, and keeping the history of the building/neighborhood in tact with the decor. I'd definitely be a regular if I lived here - the Hag would be a cute place to sit at one of the front window tables during a snowy Minnesota day (plenty of those!) with a hot cup of coffee and a book.

Would escape from New Ulm and come here back in the aughts (2000s) to get some coffee and chill out. Ten years later, I'm back in the area and enjoying their coffee again. Haven't been there since they remodeled recently, but I'm sure I'll go back when I need another dose of the artsy-hipster vibe. I also should keep track of their live music a little better. Sorry to say I've missed a few groups that I think I would have liked.

About once a year when visiting family this is my daily go to coffee place. Great staff, relaxing atmosphere, never feel rushed and good food. They make the best lattes around.

Don't think I've ever gotten a mocha in a pint glass before. Sorta unfortunate that it wasn't hot enough to be too hot for the glass. Also didn't taste much different than the Cubano my husband ordered. Much more of a latte than a mocha. And get here early if you are hungry. They ran out of hot breakfast sandwiches by 9:30am on Saturday

The best part about the Hag is the environment and ambiance. If I needed a place to escape the noise of campus and relax, focus on some homework, and have good coffee, this was the place. The staff was always friendly and the bakery items were memorable and great tasting! Live music is always fun and if you find yourself wanting to remember your weekend for once instead of blacking out from 2-for-1s, stop here!

Amazing bakery items. My strawberry scone had lots of fruit. The coffee was well brewed and delicious. The Americano was flat but the hot chocolate was smooth and rich.

This place has an awesome atmosphere to it. The best of Mankato and the surrounding area. My band as well as myself solo used to play there from time to time too and it's an awesome place for live music or just chilling...good coffee and yummy snacks. I miss this place!!

After a play at the local Lincoln Community Center, we were needing a good cup of coffee to close out the evening. Luckily we found this place online and Apple Maps took us right to it. The place is in a great old building right on a Main Street. Classic roof lines with some great interior decorating make it very inviting. We pulled up a couch and had a great evening cup of Hag! Love the friendly staff working and appreciated the iPad register way to pay. Definitely worth the side trip off 169 next time we are passing through on the way to the Twin Cities also!

I totally dig this place. I've had several clients in the Mankato area and I always schedule our meetings here. Gay-friendly coffee bar located in a cool, old building is the best way to describe this place, I guess. Really good coffee. They offer a few dishes that are always tasty. My favorite is the hummus with pita and cucumbers. Free wi-fi. There's a stage where bands, poets, etc perform. This place stays open until 10 on weekdays and 11 on weekends. Very good vibe here.

I love the Coffee Hag, but not necessarily for the coffee. The old-town atmosphere and friendly staff pretty much make the Hag what it is--a nice little community gathering place. The coffee is decent, but clearly not their focus (the slogan on their cards emphasizes music, art and soul). The food is pretty good, with a couple vegan-specified items (but never any vegan bakery that I've seen). There's a new local artist featured every month, along with live music/variety shows frequently. Well-worth checking out!

I spent several hours reading Bolano and Badiou at Coffee Hag last night and this morning. Coffee Hag is a first-rate example the kind of coffee house you can find in just about any halfway college town, but which is sadly scarce in Chicago. The late hours alone - open till 11! - make me weep for the days when "spending Friday night at a coffee house with my friends" didn't mean "sitting uncomfortably in a chain coffee store until 9 pm" or "lamenting that independent coffee houses in Chicago just can't afford to stay open late." That said, Coffee Hag was quiet, comfortable, staffed by impeccably friendly baristas, and the Americanos I drank were just fine.

The scones are pretty good, and they warm them up for you (see photo of orange scone). However, the espresso is really bad; it's fair trade, but it has a vile, acrid flavor.

my friends and i stumbled upon this place while passing through. we were kind of lost, looking for wireless and coffee, so this place was like the holy grail. i was kind of sleep-deprived, but i had a good sandwich, and the bathrooms were awesome, i think...
