I noticed Jethro's Char-house housed right in the bend of an arm shaped strip mall of little consequence the first time I drove by on my way to Century College, which is within walking distance. Frankly, from the car, Jethro's is not at all impressive. That said, it is a a favorite meeting spot of Century employees (a solid rival of the Dunn Bros. located in the opposite direction down Century Avenue from the college). Why? It's the burgers: big, char-broiled, and served on a buttered, toasted bun. Jethro's fries are also good...or a salad can be substituted for the fries at no extra cost. Finally, there is the beer--by the pitcher for those long, boring faculty meetings lucky enough to be held there. Though I could easily claim that Jethro's has the best burger in the Twin Cities, the great burger is not the only reason to visit. Jethro's is the closest thing to Boston's fictitious Cheer's this reviewer has encountered in Minnesota, with the bar's regulars contributing to its ambience. One time, for example, I was there with a non-college affiliate who, after eavesdropping on a conversation at the bar, acknowledged that he had been listening in, agreed with the speaker, and bought him a beer! Things like this just don't happen at Dunn Bros. or, for that matter, Burger Jones or My Burger. Conclusion? Don't be put off by Jethro's low-key exterior. Go on in and have a great burger and a great time.

I attended Saturday bingo. I brought my clients with special needs. My clients already had lunch and follow very strict diet plans as well as regular scheduled dining out plan. My clients also are very routine as every time they bowl they buy a pop. We went to play bingo straight from bowling and I allowed them to bring there pops in to have during bingo. I thought bingo would be such a nice thing for them to do in this winter weather and one client has been wanting to play bingo for awhile now but it has been hard to find somewhere that offers bingo that fits in there very routine schedule. Once we sat down an older lady dressed in all black with white grey hair approached us and said it's not ok to bring in beverages from other places as we should be purchasing from them. I said I'm sorry would you like me to have them put it in there purse. The lady just said to put them at the back of the table. The old lady then came and asked if we would like menus and I said no thank you. I was offered a beverage as well and stated just water. This lady who I found out is the owner was then very rude to me and my clients with special needs. She said do you realize you are at a business and you are Should be buying something. I said I will I'm playing bingo. She then was real nasty saying I should be buying food and mentioned I'm at a business again. The nasty looks she was giving, the lack of not accepting or understanding and just assuming was just wrong. He had many tables still open to fill up, so I don't understand why we were treated this way. I have never felt so unwelcome somewhere.

Taking on this Underdog Challenge, I figured I'd find lots of hidden gems, newer places, then there's the ones where there's a reason it has under 10 reviews, If it weren't for trips to Donatelli's, we never would have known about it. I am the third to review here. The first was a glowing review from last year, that heavily emphasized the burgers and wings. The second is a new Yelper who has had bad luck with auto repair shops, but likes Jethro's. It's the day after Orthodox Easter, so the only thing on our minds is steak. I got the 6 oz. sandwich, Basil get the 8 oz. steak. Charhouse doesn't mean steakhouse folks. So how do you review food, when you clearly get the wrong thing. I also was enlightened that there is a whole other side to WBL. It's not all lake people. It reminded me of Merlotte's from True Blood. Just all regulars, and we were entering territory like a couple of fang bangers. There is a sign out front announcing their 34th anniversary or something, so there will be specials. I have no problem with WBL restaurants as a destination, but this is clearly your local pub.

Came here for lunch one day and for a bar atmosphere, the food was actually pretty good. The buns on the burger were ok but the meat were great- unexpected but great. The steak sandwich was a steak on bun so a little funny and unexpected but good and tender. A little grungy on the inside but its a bar I guess.

We stumbled upon Jethro's when we were super hungry coming back from the Lift Bridge Brewery tour in Stillwater and looking for some hearty food to fill our bellies. Jethro's seemed like just the ticket, and it was. With my mom, dad and sister, we were seated immediately and within minutes a lovely gal came by and asked if we wanted to play Bingo for $1 a card. I was already in love with this place and we hadn't even ordered food yet. The atmosphere was exactly the kind of place that I miss living in Memphis now with its dark wood interior and northwoods lodge charm. Playing Bingo with the family was a blast. I ordered the bacon cheese burger (rare) which was served a little more done than I would have cooked myself, but still delicious and not too greasy with perfectly seared bacon topping it off. The fries were delicious as well and quickly devoured. For desert we ordered the Butterfinger pie, which was also delicious and helped to top off an excellent detour on our way home. Although we were clearly not local, we were well received and courteously served in a very timely fashion by all staff members. While Jethro's exterior may leave a little to be desired, you quickly forget you are in a strip mall and are transported to your favorite Minnesota pub.

We went to Jethro's after waiting nearly 1/2 hour to order and being totally ignored at a different local restaurant, so we arrived super-hungry and slightly irritable. Within minutes we had ordered our Supreme Burger and French Dip (with onion soup for the dip) and less than 10 minutes later were eating. Everything was fresh and hot, including the fries, and the service was kind, friendly and attentive. It was exactly the right place to go after being treated rudely elsewhere and we were happy to tip generously.

I was introduced to this place by a long time patron, and I am glad I found it. It's got an old school, laid back vibe to it with no frills or unnecessary decorations. The menu is solid; they have good burgers, steak, and a really decent Friday night fish fry. The service has always been fast and friendly all of the five times I've been there. Nothing extra special about this place, but a great option when you're just looking for a good dinner and beer.

Burger was one of the best I've had in the Twin Cities, and very reasonably priced. Everyone at the table loved their food. Was quite busy while we were there, but service was still great. Highly recommended.

Beer battered onion rings! That's all I've got to say. Not since Jerry's closed have I had such tasty onion rings. Huge, fresh, crispy on the outside and tender in the middle. Go for the onion rings (and maybe a burger & beer).

Local dive bar with average food. Dark and poorly lit atmosphere. Not some place I'd take the kids. Good for small groups. Friday nights offer karaoke with a push on country music and old standards.

Stopped in with a colleague for a weekday lunch. Another friend of mine had previously recommended their steak sandwich and I needed a lunch that was going to stick to the ribs so off to Jethros we went!! First thing you notice is that it's a bit dark and they're clearly set up to be a bar first and foremost. That being said, I wasn't there for the ambience! I wanted a good sandwich and that's what I ended up getting!! Although the steak sandwich looked good, I opted for the Philly French Dip & fries for $9. I was not disappointed!! Good portion and it had the right blend of cheese and peppers that didn't overwhelm the meat. Nicely played Jethros, I shall return again someday for that Steak Sandwich!

I just wasn't that impressed with Jethro's. Perhaps if I were in my 60s and liked participating in meat raffles the whole experience would have been better. We decided to check out Jethro's for dinner on Friday because it's close to the house and I'd read some good reviews. The White Bear Lake magazine that comes to my house had them listed as one of the 5 best steaks in WBL for the steak sandwich so we figured why not. Hubs had the steak sandwich with fries and a side salad, I had the Black & Blue salad with cajun seasoned steak, and daughter had the kid's mac & cheese. It's not that anything was bad, we just weren't impressed with it overall. My salad had a crap ton of blue cheese on it and the steak was overcooked and dry. Hubs liked his sandwich and I stole a bite and thought it was fine. The service was very good, however. I don't think we'll be back.

A local publication called this place one of the best steak houses in the White Bear area. Jethro's steak sandwich was specifically called out. My brother and I came in for lunch and looked around and realized that we were the youngest people here by decades but this was a Wednesday afternoon so perhaps most of the younger folk were at work. The place has a very hole in the wall feel which is perfect for a neighbor hood bar but the food was fantastic. I had the steak sandwich and my brother had a burger which he liked better than a burger he had at the Blue Door, which I believe make some of the best burgers in the Cities. The steak sandwich was a very tender and flavorful steak sandwiched between two pieces of Texas toast. You did not need a fork and I skipped on the A1 too just because the flavor was so good. I thought there might be onions or something else on the sandwich too but nope, just the delicious steak. It wasn't the biggest steak but it did cover the Texas toast which is a fabulous alternative to a bun. The burger also used Texas toast instead of a bun. The fries were plentiful and perfectly crispy as well. The price was about 8 dollars for the burger and 10 for the steak sandwich. Far from fancy but the food was good.

Some people prefer a nice griddle fried burger, but I love a good flame grilled burger. Jethros is low on atmosphere, location and a lot of the other things that make a great restaurant but they do get their food spot on! My favorite burger is their make your own burger, I get blue cheese crumbles and fried onions for the worlds most perfect burger. The usually get it cooked perfectly with a nice char on the outside and nice red meat on the inside. Don't skip their great steak fries, they are absolutely perfectly cooked every time. One last note if you like buffalo wings then you have to go to Jethros their wings are unlike any Buffalo Wing I have ever had. Service has always been good for me and I look forward to going there every chance I get.
