Was given rave reviews by a few people from Preston, MN. Popped in for a late lunch. Service was so-so. Friendly but not really top of her class in organizational skills. I couldn't tell if she was the only server or just the most hectic employee. There was a gaggle of people behind the kitchen divider without anything resembling a "cook" on them. I ordered the special, Chicken Sandwich with fries & drink for $6.99. The rest of the table ordered fried cheese curds, Great Balls of Fire burger, and The Duke burger. Cheese curds were good, but a tad over done in the grease department. My companions thoroughly enjoyed their burgers. My bite of the GBF burger was smokey and hott--very nice! My bite of the Duke was juicy and smothered in sub-par chili. The Chicken Sandwich was actually 2 chicken fingers on a wheat bun with fresh lettuce and 1 slice Roma tomato. The chicken was dry and coated in batter that smelled of fish....did someone forget to clean the fryer since Friday night "all you can eat fish"?? Not appetizing. Fries were a good representation of real potato fries and plentiful! Sadly we went through our whole meal without a refill. We had to track down our bill through 3 other people. The cute coffee bar near the door was where you pd for your bill--it was staffed with a pleasant young girl and amazing aromas of fresh coffee beans! I think I'll come back to sample the caffeine.

My boyfriend and I were on a road trip and searching for breakfast when we came across Pedal Pushers. Couldn't be more thrilled to find such a place, and accidentally at that. The cafe serves all organic and seasonal produce, as well as local dairy products, cage free eggs, and pasture-raised pork and beef. We were really happy with our meal, and more so knowing that this is the kind of establishment that supports local farms and businesses. I only subtracted a star for service. The server got my order wrong, but brought me the plate of the (wrong) food anyhow to see if I would like to eat it instead. I know pancakes and french toast are pretty similar, but not when you're expecting their special flaxseed pancakes! Was surprisingly cheap as well. Usually, places like this that offer only local and organic products are pretty hard on the wallet. Not so in this case.

Great food! Too many times you go to a small town diner and get sketchy, generic food, so finding a place that sources from local farms and suppliers was a very pleasant surprise. The cheese curds were fresh, and the burgers tasty and juicy. The pecan pie was easily the best I've ever had; flaky crust, sweet and rich. I had brought it back to my B&B, so I was eating it at room temp, so I can only imagine how incredible it would be warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Have been here several times. Always very good. Coconut pie is always a must. Celebrated with pie and coffee in between theatre and dinner. Our server, was excellent. Didn't sing happy birthday to me but did somewhat of a birthday dance. Will definitely go back hoping to be served by her again.

Came back for lunch and dinner on this visit. Epic great burgers and etc. Fun place with small children, lots to look at and they didn't freak when my 3 year old wrote the entire alphabet on the table.

Stayed in Lanesboro two nights. Ate at Pedal Pushers twice and loved everything we had - especially the fish tacos. They are amazing - even for one of us who is not a fish eater. Can't wait to come back and try the pot pie!

This is a cafe. A great little cafe. Decorated a bit kitschy with vintage and antique kitchen gadgets, and mismatched tablecloths, it's downhome and adorable. The staff was excellent - friendly, even to our demanding (though kiss-blowing) baby. She loved the meatballs & fries! The fish tacos were the best both my husband and I have ever had, and my turkey sandwich was a nice toasted deli sandwich. I recommend the cabbage slaw! Bonus: local craft beer on tap.

Clean, family friendly, with great food-- which is exactly what we were looking for! Our waitress was great, helpful and kind. It is a unique restaurant, we sat upstairs and it very "cozy." We got there right at opening (unknowingly) and were able to sit immediately and our orders were taken promptly and food followed not too long after!

Very cute place with craft beers on tap! Norwegian meatballs were yummy and nice menu! Will definitely check this place out again!!

It was pretty busy when we got there, but managed to get a table after a couple minutes. The front end, register area, wasn't very streamlined. The line was getting long with people wanting to pay their bill and people wanting to get their name on the seating list, but having to wait because the cashier was helping 4 people that wanted ice cream cones. That part of the business could be tweaked a bit. Once we got seated, our server was very friendly and very attentive, even with all the bustling business. Food was good. Service was good. It was a great place to stop on our SE MN road trip. :-)

Took family and reviews are mixed. The burger was good, but the hot sandwiches were barely warm. The rhubarb pie was excellent, except for the piece of nutshell. Come to think of it, all of the desserts we tried had a piece of nutshell in them, even though they didn't have any nuts in them. I think we'll try some place else today.

Locally sourced food that is delicious and filling. The decor is adorable - not many places can pull off a bike motif successfully. All of the food is delicious. I got the vegan loaded potato with a black bean burger - yum yum yum. My bf got the turkey avocado sandwich with sweet potato fries. It was an eating competition to see who could eat more of the fries. There was no discernible winner. Then we ended the meal with apple crisp a la mode. It was perfection on a dish.

My family just stopped and had dinner here. This was one of the best places we have been too. The food was amazing. Everyone cleaned their plates. Everything about this place was great! Planning to change our camping plans next year to come back again!

Wow. Just when you are excited to find an old school diner. It gets even better. Old school diner + menu of locally grown/raised/made food = Amazeballs. Service is fast, friendly. Nice open space with your typical 50's diner decor. You want a BLT? Sure, have a BLT made with fresh thick cut bacon from a local farm, placed lovingly between two slices of the best wheat bread I have ever had. And they act all nonchalant about it. The home sliced french fries were excellent as well. My boyfriend got the turkey club, he said the turkey was exceptional, and he literally talked about it for days afterwards. He got the mashed potatoes and gravy which were also very good. We were excited to see they offered an array of Spring Grove Sodas (which we first met at the MN State Fair this summer). They must be manufactured nearby because we noticed most shops in Lanesboro sold Spring Grove Sodas. They also offer a bison burger which was very good (yes we ate there twice in two days). Yummy grilled cheese too! And for you Madison kids, they have Chocolate Shoppe ice cream!! Seriously, look at the menu. You will be impressed and drooling.

Wasn't sure what to expect when I walked through the door for dinner. One of THE best gourmet-ish burgers...EVER! How's that for exceeding expectations? About time, I say :) My burger, Great Balls of Fire, arrived on a perfectly toasted wheat bun, jalapenos and a delish chipotle mayo, accompanied by homemade coleslaw. My dinner mate thoroughly enjoyed the Good Golly Miss Molly, also perfectly toasted bun, yummy carmelized onions, mushrooms and brie cheese. The roasted red potatoes were a nice option to regular french fries. I really like that you can get any of these "burgers" with hamburger, veggie burger or a chicken breast. The strawberry malt, also outstanding! If you've read any of my previous reviews, you know I'm big on the sustainable/local thing and these folks are on that bandwagon too. And service was friendly and attentive. Pleasantly surprised with a meal under $23 including tax!

Came here once after a day of Kayaking with a group of friends. Friendly service, nice location and food was very good. Had the burger myself which was nice, although not the best I've ever had. A special mention to their fresh cut fries which were excellent. The general consensus from the table was that the food overall was excellent, including dessert. Highly recommend if in the area

When riding the Root River Trail, I have frequented this lovely little cafe several times. I love their committment to serving local food. What a refreshing concept!!! I am so weary of restaurants that open a plastic bag of premade soup from a warehouse, microwave it, and call it homemade. The decor is fun and kicky. Be certain to stop in when you are in the area. It is a nice break from your bike ride in a picturesque little town.

In the pictures shown below are the following entrées. Norwegian Meatballs, Hot Pork and Mashed Potatoes and Chicken Pot Pie. All of the entrées were very good. On the side another item that was ordered was Chilli which was delicious. I had a salad with thousand island dressing which was soso. Thus the 4 stars instead of 5.

Very good breakfast and friendly fast service! Coffee was tasty as well. We had the turkey skillet special, a quiche special and an omelet. Highly recommended!

This place is just like most of Lanesboro itself, pretentious and overhyped. The thing with this cafe is that it is as average as you can get, yet the way the staff treat you you would think they were the most exquisite restaurant in the nation. The staff let us know in word and demeanor that they were very busy and that we should hurry up and order and avoid bothering them. Don't even dare ask them to go out of their way or make even a small exception to the rules because they aren't going to do it. The vibe I get is that we, the customer, are lucky to be allowed in their establishment rather than the other way around. You could get food just as good at a Perkins or other chain restaurant, and the service might not chill you to the bone like it does at this place. Who cares if they serve local food? It really is just a gimmick, and it is not a refreshing idea as some would have you think. The whole locally grown thing has been done so much now that it is passe. Skip this place and the whole town of Lanesboro if you want to avoid hipster hell.

Came here with the lads after an epic kayaking session. Was in peak or the rhubarb festival. Everybody was impressed and the service was unbelievable. Have to mention the fries, fresh cut and very well done. Hope to be back soon!

We had a great experience here- wonderful burgers and delicious banana cream pie. The server couldn't serve our beer (not 18) and didn't communicate that to anyone, so we waited a long time for it. Otherwise - thumbs up!

Food was homemade & locally sourced. Service was friendly. We had Auntie A's Delite salad (Chicken, apples, blue cheese, etc.), shiitake & onion melt , grilled tilapia tacos, & Norwegian meatballs. All were good.

This cafe is perfect for a B&B retreat. It is all local food, great ice cream and good coffee. The staff is nice and the food is great. I had the Chicken Pot Pie and it was one of the best I've had. The owner's mom makes then every morning! I live in minneapolis and this place is a gem in a gem of a city!

Good local food. I'm visiting for a few weeks in the winter, so it isn't open during the week. I went here for lunch about a month ago and was happy to see a lot of local offerings, including grass-fed beef and local ice cream. I'll definitely be heading back soon, and will update my review again once that happens.

I was at this restaurant once before and had a good experience but recently was here and was pretty disappointed. I ordered the fish tacos because after seeing them being delivered to another table they looked great. However, when they came to my table and I picked one up it fell apart right down the middle and everything inside fell into the basket (served in a basket, not a plate). The reason for this was because they were serving them in corn tortillas that broke with the slightest bend. I noted this to my server and got a, "sorry about that" and on our way out I noted it to the manager as well. Again I got a "sorry about that" but they were uninterested in trying to rectify things or make the customer happy. I was told that the corn tortillas were a "last minute substitution". So, rather than just say that they were out of something they substitute a sub-standard product and try and pass it off, then when that substitution gets complaints their response is "sorry, but oh well, we don't really need your business anyway". So, if you go there and everything is great, good for you. But if you go there and have a problem, their response seems to be, "Well I guess that's too bad for you. Now pay us for your unhappiness".

The first time we ate here was one of those "we have to find something to eat" as we were getting off the bike trail on a rainy day. The place was crowded but a table opened up, we were seated and had a wonderful meal experience. The service was fine and the food fantastic local grown. There was even vegetarian selections! Since then we have been back a couple of times, nearly the reason to go to Lansboro, besides the Root River trail.

We arrived at 6:30 p.m. No hostess or host greeted us. Instead, customer after customer budged in front of us to pay their bills. Their waitresses would come up and ring up their bill and go back to their tables. No one ever offered to seat us though two tables were empty and one looked cleared. At 6:50 p.m. we left, perhaps never to come back.

This review was for lunch in 2011 - just found the saved draft that never posted. That time we had the hearty tomato soup, grilled cheese sandwich and apple crisp. We come here every time we're back in Minnesota and love it. The waitresses are so nice and you can't beat malts and pie!

Nice little joint, what I like best is how much of their food they get locally. They have a few vegetarian and vegan options, which is nice. A good selection of desserts - although our bread pudding was cold :-/ Prices aren't too bad - kids meals come with drinks, which I always appreciate. It's also very cute on the inside.

Much better than you can reasonably expect to find in a small town in southeast Minnesota. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients that are well and thoughtfully prepared. Friendly service. Excellent beer selection. Great deserts. Fair prices. Nothing to complain about and nothing comparable within 40 miles. Just wish they were open for breakfast.
