First off The Blacksmith isn't fancy in any shape or form. It's been there as long as I can remember. My father owned a trucking company a mile down the road so I basically grew up in this place. I came in tonight for the first time in more than 20 years. Nothing has changed including the staff. If you need anything more than a great meal at a great price this is not your place, however, if you love a great dive bar with terrific food The Blacksmith is right up your alley. I ordered the Porterhouse with hash browns and my wife had the Thursday dinner special which was the broasted chicken. My steak was a touch over cooked, but, was delicious and at $22 it was the best value I've had in a very long time! The real star here was the chicken!!! Crispy, flavorful, and amazingly juicy. Sides were excellent as well and the blue cheese dressing on the salad was homemade and terrific. When the bill came for 5 of us (4 adults and one child) the total with drinks was $90! If you live in the Hugo/Forest Lake/White Bear Lake area you MUST give The Blacksmith a try. Don't listen to the bad reviews. I own two 4.5 star Yelp restaurants in Omaha, NE and I love this place! It's always busy and you shouldn't be in a hurry. Take your time have a cocktail and enjoy!
Well I heard this was just as good as Mississippi chicken down south and it was pretty good but not worth waiting 30 minutes getting it to go. This place reminds me of a barn with no windows converted in to a restaurant but had nice patrons to talk to while waiting.
There's two things in life that you can't screw up... Eggs & a Burger. This place has managed to prove me wrong on 1/2 of that. Twice. When you come up on this place do yourself a favor and keep driving to the next joint..

Visiting from a major city with many competing restaurants, I really didn't expect much considering the limited options for dining in Hugo. Amian surprised me though. The tea came loose leaf in a pot, my first pleasant surprise... Than wonton soup which was standard and tasty... The vegetable lo mein was the clincher. Lots of vegetables, nice big portion and noodles had a good texture. Slightly too greasy for my taste but I would definitely recommend this place.
I love the drunken noodles here, they are always great. I always mean to try something else, but you can get Chinese at a lot of places around Hugo but you won't find noodles quite like Amian. Very friendly staff. I would suggest doing takeout if you have small children, it's a very small dining area and I brought my 1 year old son and it was a little difficult :) It's more of a night out without the kids restaurant, but it's not like you can't bring the kids with.
I debated between 3 to 4 stars. The food is delicious, the wait time is ridiculous! If you go, just make sure you have the time. I wouldn't even say calling in works - I called for the fried rice and said I'd be there in 1/2 hour and I still ended up waiting (and there were only 2 other customers in the restaurant). That being said, I love their fried rice - I'd recommend the house fried rice - shrimp, pork and chicken! Everyone in our group that went at a previous visit loved the food they ordered. The woman who waits on the tables is a hoot!

Wiseguys Pizza

This is my family's "go-to" pizza place. The pizza has wonderfully spiced sauce, plentiful toppings, and tons of ooey-gooey cheese. There's also pasta and hot hoagies if you don't feel like pizza, but I haven't tried those because the pizza is so good! I don't know why there's so many bad reviews as the place is packed on weekends; it's a local favorite. If you eat in, the restaurant is kinda small and has a bar with lots of big screen TVs to watch sports on.
Wiseguys Pizza has always reminded me of Carbones.. I'm pretty sure it's now the only Pizza place near me that will deliver here, since Domino's is closed, but it's just as easy (not to mention better for me and better tasting) to make my own pizza at home. Speaking of, I think I'll do that for dinner. :) UPDATE: Wiseguys is under new ownership, and no longer does delivery.
Carbones, Red Savoy, Ronnies, Pizza Man & Chanticlear all have better pizza than wize guys.

I never liked Domino's as much as Pizza Hut or Papa Johns, but since this one was only a mile from my house, it was my go to pizza place. During non rush times if I ordered for delivery they'd quote me a half hour delivery time and it would usually arrive in about 15 minutes. I wasn't thrilled to see them close. UPDATE: They've reopened, same location, same phone number.. new owner. :)

Having been brought up on Savoy's on W.7th, I was apprehensive to think their nummy goodness could be duplicated in the suburbs. But, thank goodness I don't live near this one, or they would be on speed dial. They do offer delivery, but we did pick up...torture driving the 10 minutes home without opening the box. They do have two little tables, more for waiting for your pick-up I believe then for dining. Feel free to call ahead and give a pick-up time, they will not just make your pizza and let it sit in the window. It was coming out of the oven just as we arrived.
Good pizza. I've always liked Red's- good pie and I like the sauce - has some zest. The service was inexcusable. Call in the order at 4:00. Told 20 minutes, so I get there by 4:15 or so. Gave my name, paid and sat Dow to wait. No big deal, until 30 minutes later, a girl asked what I am waiting for. Oh. She grabs the pizza all boxed up. Probably had been sitting there 20 minutes yet no one told me. Really! And we're going to 'raise' the minimum wage for this incompetence? I may get Red's again, but not from this location. If I owned/managed this place, someone would be looking for a be job.
My second time there 2 weeks ,,, I thought it was a fluke. And then I realize it wasn't. I ordered the large pizza. & I got two mediums. And then was told what a deal I got. I because two mediums cost more than one Large. I gotz more crust than I paid for.i thought what a deal. Twice as much crust for the same cost.pi =3.14

Hire some more servers and bartenders. Your place is packed but service constantly sucks. The place is packed with drunk people early in the night. I'm surprised how drunk they are able to get when there is only two bartenders and no wait staff to serve surrounding tables. They always have some large male human checking ids when you walk in that has an chip on his shoulder, which is strange because your just checking ids!! Doesn't take much talent. How about the bathrooms, apparently there was puke all over the men's bathroom as reported from one of my male friends. When I visited the women's bathroom the garbage was overflowing, automatic sink water that would burn your hand and a drunk chick talking to herself in the mirror.
Bad bartender from Mad Jacks is here. So if you want to wait for a drink while she chats.
Food is ok, about what to expect for the price range, which I didn't think was too bad. I do think it is a fun atmosphere though. Plenty of seating and friendly waitstaff in the bar area.
