I go to the school down the street and almost everyday I come down to this coffee shop the chai is amazing and so are the muffins I love this place do much it is amazing!

Munkabean's space is warm and inviting. It is not designed like the sterile corporate coffeehouses like caribou or Starbucks. The chairs and tables looks like they bought them from a 70's garage sale. The artwork is a mish mash of paintings and photographs. Ideal place for catching up with old friends or hanging out with the kids. There us a play area for kids in the back. They supply toys, games and a whimsical crayon set each shaped like a small log houses in a wooden basket. Great local coffee house situated next to Hopkins movie theatre, VFW and Hopkin's center for the Arts. Oh yeah...the coffee is good. I didn't get a chance to sample the sandwiches.

Popped in here during the Hopkins Raspberry Festival for a blended mocha (Munkachino? Something like that - it's not on their online menu). It was delicious with a distinct espresso flavour that isn't present in a certain chain store's blended drinks. The price was a little steep but I mostly popped in to use their restroom and I like supporting local business so it was worth it - I couldn't afford to be a frequent customer, though. The interior is really cute and homey. They also serve ice cream.

This is my new favorite spot in Hopkins. They have been around for 14 years and I am embarassed to say that I never stopped by when I lived right down the street. The place always called out to me, but I was in a hurry and often overlooked them. How silly I am. My dad and I were going to the theater and arrived ridiculously early for our show. It was really hot during the day and the possibility of an iced beverage lured me in. Telling the barista that I wanted something with less coffee flavor and more of a creamy taste led her to recommend the iced chai latte. It was delicious! Not bland, but also not overpowering. It's hard to find a good medium, but they managed to do it. My father went for the pineapple carrot cake. I can't say that I could tell it had pineapple, but as far as carrot cakes go it was lip-licking good. Two of the things that really turned me on to them is that 1) they have a bunch of board games and skill games to play and 2) they sell Munkabeans t-shirts and a nice selection of coffee cups from antique dealers. I bought two Art Deco coffee cups and saucers with built-in ash trays... and I don't even smoke. I just thought they were awesome and I had never seen them before. 2 coffee cups and saucers, 1 huge slice of cake and 1 giant cup of chai was just under $20. I will be back!

I'm giving this place 4 stars for now as I've only been once. I had the Cinnabun Latte and it was absolutely amazing. This place has quite a few signature drinks that look pretty tasty but I have yet to try. I also had a sausage egg breakfast sandwich which was above average. The ambiance of the cafe is laid back and relaxing.

The ambiance of this cafe is very nice. I enjoy the fact you can bike here from neighboring towns. They have a great selection of coffee, lattes, wraps, and sandwiches. They have delicious sebastians ice cream! Great place to bring a date!

The blueberry muffins are delightful and made there. Also, great coffee! It's got a ton of character. Breakfast menu needs some work. Place has lots of potential.

We frequent this place weekly. It's kid-friendly with numerous books, coloring utensils and not to mention delicious sugary snacks. there is always a place to sit - and the retro tables and local artwork give the place a cool vibe. They sell not only coffee beverages, but food as well as ice cream by the scoop at very affordable price!

I'm sad to say that Munkabeans has gone more than downhill since my last review. I gave up coffee for Lent and returned to Munkabeans to find things completely different from before. I thought, perhaps, new staff had been hired and hadn't gotten fully trained. People whom I'd never seen before were making my drink, and they were less than friendly. It was downright awkward to order and wait for my beverage, and I couldn't have been happier that I ordered it to go. The drink itself was decent, but I could have ordered from somewhere else if I wanted generic (or worse) service and beverages. I went back a couple more times. I received the same awkward, unfriendly service. I felt like an intruder. My favorite barista was no where to be found, and the drinks were hit-or-miss. Not to mention that the drink prices are pretty high. Munkabeans might be in my backyard, but I think I'm going to stick to the chain coffee shops that aren't too much farther away. The staff is friendlier, the service is better, the drinks are more consistent, and the prices are generally lower.

Totally echo the sentiment of Meg P. I felt super uncomfortable in there. Maybe we both caught the "barista" on a bad day. But I am unwilling to return as a coffee shop is supposed to be a warm, friendly place where I can relax and feel at ease.

This place is the cutest. I'm a little jaded because I'm from Baldwin WI, and this place makes me feel like I'm back at home at the local little coffee shop on Main Street. The drinks I've had have all been up to my expectations. I've had soup here for lunch and a bagel for breakfast, and all were enjoyable. It's not the most amazing food I've ever had, hence the 4 stars. But all-in-all a cute, fun place to get some coffee!

I work close by and am starting to really enjoy Munka. The servers were always very sweet with suggestions or even just asking how my day is going, and they have the only Vanilla Cappuccino in the Minneapolis area that doesn't taste like bitter sewer water, but is legitimately tasty. And that Thai soup, as sketchy as it sounds, was phenomenal. If the prices were a tad lower I would be in every day.

The drinks are good. I never had any issues with ANY drinks. The breakfast items are satisfactory, nothing to write home about but better than McDonald's (however, pricey). The staff is friendly, however I do think they might want to take some training in customer service as it pertains to being inappropriate. I have an autoimmune disease that effects my central nervous system which in turn causes my hands to shake, when I was being handed my drink the barista thought it necessary to not only point this out in front of a business full of other customers but ask me what caused me to shake. I had never met this barista before, so their question was completely inappropriate. Had I developed some sort of rapport with them, and it was a bit more private of a conversation I wouldn't have been so taken aback. And when I explained it was because of "a medical condition" (I wasn't about to get into specifics) , this barista not only scoffed at my explanation but then, again in front of other customers, made a very rude joke about drug users having "the shakes". It quickly became very awkward for me, and I have never been back. Again, the drinks are great. But the service...well...they need some sensitivity training.

I have been enjoying skim lattes at Munkabeans for the past year or so since I moved to Hopkins. The staff is friendly and always welcomes me by name. The freshly baked goods are irresistible. The decor and atmosphere is a mix of old and new with a variety of seating options.

Looking for a spot on Main Street for breakfast. Ran into this place so I went in. Neat decor, including the leg lamp from the movie "A Christmas Story." Coffee was good which is why it got 2 stars from me. The scones looked yummy but I wanted a bigger filler. Had the breakfast burrito which I was pretty disappointed in considering it cost nearly $8. Only 2 people working but not very busy. Took longer than expected to get my meal. I'd recommend for the coffee and for a mellow place to hang out. Don't stop by if you're looking for a great breakfast burrito to be served in record time.

This place must have recently revamped its image, because our experience here was phenomenal! They have a dog friendly patio in the back with great ambience, and the baked goods and lunch specials are delicious. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the prices are reasonable. We just moved from Seattle, so I would hope our opinion of an independent coffee shop would carry more weight than most. I would much rather my money went towards this awesome community gem, instead of a noisy and generic corporate chain. Support small business and walk your jeans into Munkabeans!!!

Munkabean has changed ownership a few times in the last couple of years and its current staff are definitely the best. The shop is definitely better run than previously, the staff are more welcoming, the coffee is great and the homemade-style food is very good. I spend a lot of time here and am very happy about the current incarnation.

There's a lot of interesting art pieces here, which us good. It can take awhile to get served here, so it's nice to have something to look at while you wait. The peanut butter latte is pretty fricken fantastic. I keep telling myself I'll try another flavor next time, but I keep going back to that one.

I bet Munkabeans gets overlooked a lot, just because it's a small place in Hopkins. But in truth, it's probably one of the Metro Area's best -kept secrets. The atmosphere is excellent. One can sit at vintage 60s/70s tables and chairs and listen to live music (which has been good every time I've been in there) while they eat their food or sip their coffee. There are plenty of books and board games for people who want to just hang out for a bit. The food is awesome. It's typical coffee shop food, with lots of sandwiches and soups. Their tomato soup is served chunky, and is absolutely the best tomato soup I've ever had anywhere. Seriously. Anywhere. And it goes perfectly with a grown-up grilled cheese. The location is awesome. It's easy to find, and you're within walking distance of the shops on Main Street and the Mann Cinema 6 (the cheap theater).

Love me some Munkabeans. Great local shop. There is street parking, but if it's full you can park in the public ramp that is free for 3.5 hours on 11th Ave. accross from Mann Cinema 6.

I've been here several times now, and each visit has improved my opinion. Both their espresso drinks and their brewed coffee are good (the latter is slightly better, though), and their made-from-scratch baked goods are delicious.

Stopped in for a quick cup of coffee today and ended up getting a delicious chocolate muffin and some nice conversation with one of the co-owners. What a little gem! It's so nice to see an independent coffee house on Mainstreet. Loved the quaint space and could see myself going back a lot. In fact, I probably will -- I will be spending a lot of time in Hopkins very soon.

I'm always in search of gluten free food options. WOW this places fills the bill and then some. I tried the Chicken Wild Rice soup, I've missed this since I was forced to go gluten free, it was PERFECT!! I'll be stopping to buy soup weekly now since all of their soups are GFree. The decor was fun, reminded me of my parents dining room table set. Can't wait to be there for live music. My new favorite coffee date place.
