What an absolute great experience here! The setting is beautiful. The surrounding area was filled with trees and open fields of flowers. It is a cute restaurant housed in the same building as a theater. Our group was only there for the dinner, and it seemed like the rest of the crowd was having dinner and attending the show right after. Next time, I will plan in advance and try to catch whatever is playing. The food was great! We started with the cheese and charcuterie plate which included aloe jelly, interesting, but good!! I had the cioppino which was in a flavorful broth and a great variety of seafood: shrimp, clams, mussels, and fish. It came with grilled bread which was perfect for dipping. We also had their chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert. And their dinner rolls with honey butter, oh so good!! I would come back here again!

We had a great dinner Saturday night. All of our dishes were prepared with care and not a bad dish between us. Garden to table style vegetables we would highly recommend trying this restaurant out.

My wife and I finally tried Cast & Cru and were so glad we did. The food was very, very good. Beautifully presented, flavorful, served at the right temperature. I had the pre-theater price-fixed short ribs meal which has to be one of the best values in Minneapolis. The short ribs were tender and juicy, but not greasy nor overwhelmed with sauce. Served on a bed of lightly garliced mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Salad was simple, yet crisp and delicious. We were served a hot peach, blueberry cobbler with a melt in your mouth pastry for dessert. My wife had the curried cauliflower salad which she raved about. The pre-theater meal included dinner rolls, salad, entree with potatoes and vegetables, dessert and a beverage, all for what you would pay for a sub-par entree in many other places. This restaurant is a hidden jewel that needs to be discovered!

Had our first dinner at Cast & Cru in the Old Log Theatre, it was like dining in New York at Minnesota prices. Really a great dinner, and the newly remodeled Old Log is AMAZING! We loved the Duck Poppers, the Tuna Carpaccio was brilliant, and the Osso Buco was to die for.

Oso buco, the sauce was like my Mamma makes. My wife had the pork chop and with parmisan grits....full of flavor! This place was a great find!

The food is to die for! Furthermore, the atmosphere blends trendy/mod with a charming cabin feel - the restaurant itself is gorgeous. The food is prepared in a timely fashion and the drinks couldn't be better. Also, the staff is friendly and welcoming. What's not to like about this place?

Had lunch at noon on a weekday before the 1:30 performance and was a bit disappointed. I checked out the menu online prior to my visit because I'm a vegetarian and I always like to see the menu early. I was happy to see they had gnocchi which I love. When I ordered it the waitress informed me they were sold out. So I ordered a salad and although it was good it was pretty small. We had bread plates but we didn't get any bread until we asked for some. There were 2 of us who had salads and we thought we'd get dessert but neither of us liked any of the choices.

This is not the "old", Old Log Theatre restaurant. The restaurant itself is now the destination. First time back for a couple of years. Remodel, makeover transforms the old, tired surroundings into an upscale restaurant with an excellent bar. Sunday brunch started with a classic Bloody Mary that had been infused with garden fresh vegetables with a nice kick. Our group tried 3 entrees. Each was fresh, beautifully presented, with flavors that will have you coming back. Twyla our waitress recommended the Salmon Eggs Benedict. Wow. Flavorful. Uniquely different. The vegetable Frittata was made with vegetables grown locally, with many right from the gardens of the Cast and Cru property. Finally one of the group ordered the Breakfast Sandwich - local eggs, Brie, arugula, focaccia, applewood smoked bacon and caramelized onions and an excellent herb aioli. Coffee was excellent. Absolutely I am coming back. Next time for dinner. Ok, I might even see a play, but certainly would come solely for the food. I

My wife and I picked this place out of the blue based on location and good reviews. We were very pleased, the decor was new and very nice. The food was excellent, especially the duck poppers.

I made reservations for dinner via Open Table for 4:30pm (we saw a 2:00pm show) When we arrived we were informed that dinner wouldn't be available until 5:00pm! Right before we were about to leave, the server came back and told us the chef would make an "exception"...really. NOT happy since I made reservations for this special day over 2 months ago!!! The food was excellent although we never got any bread or anything at the table. Even though we loved our entree's, all three of us were still a little hungry. I understand that it's a nicer restaurant and they don't overload you with food but these entree's were very small. Maybe the chef was upset that he had to make dinner earlier...

I reserved for a group of 8 for a birthday celebration based on the good reviews without intending to see the show, however we added the show on later and were very glad we did as all had a great night. The food did not disappoint and the atmosphere is way more modern than I remember it so the updates are great. We also hung out at the bar after the show for a while, quite cool. All 8 of us had a great meal, curried cauliflower salad and osso bucco was great. Only one issue, one of the steaks was well rather than medium rare. Will definitely go back.

Pork belly Ssam were excellent and best tasting item we ordered. Slider trio was satisfactory ( buns were very dry) Nice job plating most items in interesting ways, especially the desserts. Very swanky and upscale remodel. Chairs are very comfortable. I planned to go to dinner here, and after seeing their hours clearly posted, I showed up at 7:30 and they had been closed for a while, even though their hours said they wouldn't be closed until 9pm. As a result, I highly suggest you make a reservation if you want them to be open. ,

I have been here twice and this place is incredible. Excelsior has quite a few good restaurants, but wow! this place is awesome. First of all the setting is charming and beautiful. A little trip back in time to the northwoods of Minnesota. Easily, the best food in the area and on par with anywhere I've eaten in the country. Every dish has a really interesting little twist and the flavors will blow you away. Sometimes, you'll have one incredible dish in the course of a dinner at a restaurant, but they just at Cast & Cru, they get better and better. The staff are friendly and attentive and really seem to care about providing great service and a wonderful experience. The only two suggestions I would make is to; improve the view out the windows with some new landscaping, flower gardens or maybe a sculpture garden. The first time we were there, my wife and I both commented on that and the second time there was a random green garden hose laying in the sorry looking lawn. The other would be to have hot regular or decaf coffee. Both times I ordered decaf and both times it was cold or lukewarm. Make a hot pot and put it in a thermos. Prices aren't cheap, but that doesn't mean you aren't getting your money's worth. It's kind of out of the way and hidden, but it's a hidden gem. If I could give it six stars, I would. Great food, great staff. Excellent!

Great atmosphere, a very high class feel. Creative food items and good beer selection. Try the lamb carnitas tacos.

Great meal in a beautiful setting. Not a large menu, but innovative enough that I had trouble deciding what to order. Still seems like it's new enough that there were a few service hiccups, but food was so good I'll gladly overlook them. Tuna appetizer we wanted was not available, and I ordered the fillet but was brought the NY strip. It looked great, and was close enough to what I ordered, so I kept it. Other entrees ordered included Cioppino (sp?), Halibut, and hanger steak; everyone was very pleased. Our server was friendly, & worked hard to find meals for our 2 picky kids. Entrees run from mid-$20s to $42, but there are many "small plate" offerings that could easily be ordered as an entree. Will definitely go back.

Amazing food, gorgeous setting, and great service! A PERFECT date night if you are able to catch a show after delicious wine and indulging in the succulent bison rib eye(my favorite). Will definitely be back again to challenge the impressive menu.
