This is THE best place to outfit yourself and your kids with sporting goods. The owner is the friendliest person you'll ever meet in retail, and the staff is amazingly helpful. We've been there a dozen times, and every time it's a pleasant experience. Example: We bought a pair of hockey skates that seemed perfect on the day of sale. A week later, after we had a chance to use them, they proved to be too narrow. The return was accepted without a question, and they gave us great service in helping to find a wide-fitting pair. They have great prices on used equipment. We've outfit our kid for pond-hockey two years in a row for less than $20 (current year's stuff minus trade-in value of prior year's stuff). It's the best of the mom-and-pop shop, but with honest experience and knowledge built in. Super trustworthy. Really good people. As long as they're here, I can't imagine going anywhere else for sporting goods.

My last review was 1 star but this location has drastically improved in the past 4 months. The only reason it is not 5 stars is because it's still a little inconsistent but overall really great service and good.
Always fast, very nice and positive attitude. They seem to enjoy their job and it shows.
Service is quick and friendly. The food is great.

D’Amico and Sons

This is a staple "chain" in Minneapolis. I stopped in to grab some lunch after a late work day and realized that I should eat something. :) I ordered 2 salads to go and the staff was so friendly. The restaurant was very quiet - in between lunch and dinner rush but the staff was so kind to help me and didn't rush me at all. I really enjoyed my salads which were packaged in nice containers that didn't stink up my car or have potential to spill all over. I will be sure to go back!
D'Amico and Sons is a quaint little spot to go on your own for lunch or dinner. They are constantly making different menu items, but you can always count on something good. When you walk in the main pasta salads and mixes are all in the glass case to view. If you are unsure, they will let you taste it first. If it's available, I try to order this cold brusell sprout salad! They also have soups, hot or cold sandwiches, pasta meals, and pizzas, all prepared once you order. The food is brought out to your table hot and fresh. In the summer, I enjoy eating out on the patio next to the water fountain. This is my favorite D'Amico locations due to the atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, and patio. Bonus-Sign up for their email updates and get a free meal in your birthday month! They also have date night that changes every month, but typically you can get a bottle of wine, 2 meals and dessert for $30.
I eat here a lot for lunch on my day off. They have my favorite cookie ever (double chocolate) so it's my special treat. It's kinda pricey for sandwiches and salads but I think they're good. And the cookie... My only real complaint is that they don't provide nutrition info on their website. When I asked for it in the store they said they didn't have it either. I'm doing weight watchers and would really like to know how bad my special cheat treat is!

Byerly’s

5725 Duluth St
Golden Valley, 55422
Reviews:
How many ways can you make chicken taste off, dry or otherwise suspect? Probably more than two, but Byerly's had at least two of those ways down *pat* yesterday; in the salad and in the soup. That mysterious "ugh" you may have heard in the open air of Saint Louis Park yesterday was me being utterly unimpressed with my lunch at Byerly's. I should be clear--this review refers ONLY to the food court lunch service, NOT the grocery store itself (which is beautiful and spacious and newly remodeled and among my favorites). I hesitate to give this just one star because: --The food court is new, clean, spacious and offers a wide variety of foods. --I didn't try *everything* of course, and what I didn't try was a significantly large portion of the food. There could have been a lot of good. I hate to be so negative. --They were playing kicky flapper-style music from the 20's/30's. And that was pretty darned awesome. But what I did eat kept me at one star alone: --The salad bar: I had a pretty normal iceberg lettuce salad. It was build-your-own, so I guess no one forced me to put any ingredients on it. . . but the cukes were slimy (as they can get in salad bars) and the chicken strips were inedible (fried dry and hard--almost like smoked-style chicken on the inside--and very chewy). The vinaigrette dressing was fine, lettuce was fine, tomatoes were even okay. The bacon crumbles were real bacon, but *incredibly salty* and had a significant portion of chewy bacon fat crumbles mixed in with the meat. --The fresh fruit: The blueberries were good, cantaloupe and honeydew melons both good, but the watermelon shouldn't have been used (overripe and rubbery--like it had been soaking in its own juice for a long time), the pineapple was oddly slimy, and most of the grapes were soft and crushed. --The yogurt and granola: Actually, this was good. :) --The chicken chili: I LOVE chicken chili. I will have it anywhere I go. Oh Byerly's--how could you let me down so!? Despite the soup tureen being almost full-to-the-top, it was mostly liquid. I dug out the chicken, peppers and beans--but it was a battle. Logistical difficulties aside, the soup was . . . just not right in the flavor department. It had a slight spice to it...but it wasn't "hot" or "spicy" that one could define. It was like it had *no* flavor. This is coming from a gal with a solid Scandinavian salt-is-a-spice palate. Maybe it needed more salt, but it seemed salty enough. The chicken was dry and, again, chewy. The beans were. . . Well, there were no beans. I had about one and a half in a large cup of soup. To top it off, the meal was pretty expensive for what I got. And it didn't taste good or even *right*. Perhaps they were having an off day, or I didn't pick the right items. Also: a note on the utensils. I commend Byerly's for committing to eco-utensils and bowls. However, I found the biodegradable spoons and forks intolerably gritty--like what you were eating was dirty...but it wasn't, it was just the texture of the spoon/fork. I would have liked to have had other options readily available. This, granted, may not bother some at all--and surely the sustainability of the objects overrides a minor discomfort--but you have been warned!
Love this Byerly's. It has been recently remodled and is beautiful. The food court area is a great new addition.
The reason why I prefer Byerly's over Whole Foods is because their self-serve "hot bar" is incomparably better. It's always stocked with staples like fried chicken and mashed potatoes, but you will also find briskets, egg rolls, fried fish, and other goodies. Their salad bar is decent too, and they have dessert selections as well. If you're looking for something different, they also have traditional delis featuring comfort foods, sandwiches, and pastas. They also have a Big Bowl Express at this location.

I normally stopped in this coffee shop when it was a Dunn's brothers, but surprise it's now Triple D. I give them a shot and the barista levels the coffee with her finger! Eww! Maybe she was having a bad day. I will try again we all make mistakes.
YUM! BEST iced mochas (frappes) besides Dunn Bros.! No weird chemical taste that Starbuck's Frappucinos or Caribou Coolers have. Yuk. They taste natural and are super creamy! People are always friendly here and there's a nice little outdoor seating area. They have great, unique baked goods too that aren't over priced. They sell cards and artwork made by local artists.
Nice little coffee shop. I miss it being a Dunn Bros. The roaster is still present but doesn't look like it's been used much. Little coffee shop that is trying a tad too hard. Inside, bar style window seating, 2 arm chairs, and one or two tables. No noticeable outlets. The common area outside the shop has more outlets and seating. Music is bad. All top hits of classic rock. Gets old fast.

Me and a friend stopped by for the first time since they started opening and the burgers tasted pretty good, but were very greasy. The fries I got were pretty salty though. You get to choose from a list of toppings and condiments and they made it right off the bat. The place was clean, but I'm not a big fan of the layout.
After 2 years we decided to give it another shot. They got something wrong on both our orders and it tasted just as bad as I remembered.
I just love this place! They always have great customer service with friendly, engaged employees. The food is always good, fresh and fast. Plus a bucket of beer for $10? Can't beat that!

best happy hour on 394.
I have mixed feelings about this place. Location: It's right off 394 so if this is your area it's pretty easy to get to. There are a lot of familiar named restaurants in the area - (Majors is right next door ). The Restaurant: It was ok. The place was clean and very open in design. We were able to snag a booth which was nice. I know sports bars are noisy - but this place was so loud that I was leaning over my table and cupping my ear and saying "WHAT?" all the time. Also the bathroom was clean - which was nice. The place definitely has the Bar feel over the restaurant feel - they even had a gal at a Pull Tab window. The Food: I ordered A BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger with fries and Tom had a chicken wrap with coleslaw. He won in the "Who ordered the better food?" contest. My burger order was for Medium and instead it was Well with some burn on the outside. The bacon was good but the BBQ - I only tasted it once - so it's not real BBQ-y. Tom's wrap on the other hand was light and tasty. He said it was almost perfect for his taste - the chicken was grilled and the sauce was very light - it would have been dry if the cucumbers and tomatoes hadn't been so prevalent. The Waitress: She was a hard worker (It looked like she was stationed on half the restaurant). We ordered coffee and 10 minutes later she showed up with two mini pots and apologized for the wait - but she wanted to brew us fresh coffee so we didn't have to drink the swill that had been in the urn since before 4:00. She pretty much had me from there. How can you not love that? She never checked to see how our food was (which is good actually cuz I hate saying - "The burger was a hockey puck - but I was so starving and so looking forward to my diet splurge that I ate it in three bites") and she didn't spend a whole lot of time on us - which again - I prefer. So when I look back on the whole thing I guess it made the three star cut. I probably won't stop back in here because my burger sucked it and the noise level was insane - but Tom's wrap was really good and the waitress was thoughtful with our excellent coffee - so I don't regret the experience. I would recommend trying them at an off time so the noise level is much lower and maybe avoid the hockey puck burgers.
They have a good happy hour and decent beer selection. All the sports you can watch and friendly service. Most of their food is typical bar food, but they don't screw it up, so I give them that. I like their Wings and Pizza. And they support my kickball league!

Schuller’s Tavern

7345 Country Club Dr
Golden Valley, 55427
Reviews:
Schuller's is a simple (window-less) neighborhood bar that can get quite a varied after-work crowd. They have cheap happy hour deals including 1/2 price bottles of wine and $3.50 glasses of house. What truly differentiates this place from other dumpy bars is their food. The menu offers more than typical bar fare, i.e. wings, burgers and fried food, even cooking up some healthy-ish options. My favorite is the grilled chicken pita with sliced lettuce, tomatoes, juicy seasoned chicken strips, and a thick, intensely garlicky tzatziki-like sauce that makes this dish so scrumptious. If you want to liven up the atmosphere, a jukebox is available on premise. My friends select some pretty horrendous songs (i.e. "Call Me Maybe") but there's gotta be some good options in that music box too. The service here is nothing to brag about. They do their job sans smiles. But, this is no La Belle Vie. Mediocre service passes here.
Typical dive bar, but w/a bad attitude. They sponsored our hockey team a few years back, but we stopped going after a while because they always seemed to act as if it were a chore to serve us on a Sat/Sun night, and it regularly took 40 minutes+ to fire up crappy, frozen pizzas.
Why is the kitchen closed on Saturday...
